Soooo, maybe it was because I was sorely disappointed that in no way did this place come close to the taste, options, location, or vibe of another highly recommended coffee shop I was told to visit while in Galveston... But, I'm going to try and focus on my experience as if I hadn't even discovered the other one at all. Here goes. I will say it seemed like it's super close to where you have to meet the cruise ships? So maybe this is a great place to go feel a little hipster before you Bon Voyage? There wasn't much around (maybe the area is under development) so parking was easy! It's CLEAN, it's new, it's quiet. The coffee was "meh" to me. I had an espresso drink, so I feel like it's pretty major if you can tell you aren't a fan of the bean. There wasn't much to speak of in the area of pastries savory items to accompany the beverages. We were headed back home on a long drive and I was hoping to snag some yums to have on our first hour or so. :/ The guy working there was happy and kind. All in all a short visit. I can't say I'll go back but I'll keep an eye out for more reviews to see how things might look in a few months or so for our next trip to the island. read more

RedLight has been magical since opening! I love their coffee (for reference I don't like Starbucks - too big and too much sugar). Their syrups are made in house and usually not too sweet. The aesthetic is gorgeous! It's definitely our go-to spot for coffee 10 out of 10 would recommend. read more

Right along Galveston port where you can have a view of the giant cruise ship as you park along the street. The coffee shop itself is small and busy with young working adults. It has a familiarity and and personal feel about the place. Thank you to the stranger who saw my larger party with a kid and moved to change tables so we could sit at his bigger table! I tried a latte and it was the perfect temperature and had a refreshing taste. They roast their own beans at this location, and you can see their set up in the shop. read more

Favorite study spot on the island. Been coming here since the first week they opened. Coffee is good but I mostly come for the study atmosphere. Can get busy at times, especially Sunday around the time of the Farmer's Market across the street. Doesn't bother me but you just have to be willing to sit at the taller tables beside a stranger or outside on a table (one even has an outlet!). Lots of outlets along the wall. Comparatively, best wifi out of all the coffee shops, probably smallest overall space, good coffee on par with the others, and slightly quieter. Also, convenience of location with free parking directly next to the cafe makes Red Light my favorite one-- and I come here multiple times a week for hours at a time. read more

If you are wanting to experiment with like a pour over or something they are great at answering questions! I haven't gotten any of their beans yet but I hope to soon!! Red light is my favorite coffee shop on the island for studying! I usually get the vanilla or mocha hot latte. The coffee is more acidic than I would like, but the rewards system, 10% student discount, easy parking, and tons of natural lighting have me coming back. Just fyi that some baristas are not aware of the student discount though. The coffee shop is only super packed on Sunday mornings, mainly due to the farmer's market across the street. Saturdays are not as bad as Sundays. Other than that, it is moderately busy and not too difficult to find a place to study. The place is pretty small, so it's not the best place if you need a lot of table space or are bringing in a large group. There is no blender going off nor do many families come by here (except maybe on Sunday's), so still relatively low sound volume. There is also plenty of street parking! You won't have trouble finding a spot. read more

Some of the highlights for this place are the ambiance and the free parking as well as the kind and helpful baristas. The drinks can be a hit or miss. I have tried the chai latte and it tasted like watered milk that was overly sweet and slightly cinnamony. However, the lavender oat milk latte was the perfect hint of floral mixed into a creamy coffee. I appreciate the detail that goes into the latte art. Nonetheless, I come here often to study because there are ample options for tables, good lighting, and it feels cozy. I can spend hours at a time and feel incredibly productive. However, make sure to bring a jacket because the place is almost always incredibly cold. I have yet to try the pastries, but have heard positive things regarding most of them from my friends. Stopped by multiple times to sit in pre-pandemic and to grab a coffee to go or sit outside during the past year. They roast their own coffee beans and I've purchased a few different ones and enjoyed my home coffee every time. They also have a nice little deal of getting a free drip or cold brew with the purchase of their beans. As for the drinks, they have all the usual suspects of a coffeeshop, plus a few of their own. As a lactose-intolerant coffee drinker I gravitate towards the hi-five when I want something sweet, and also really appreciate the different dairy alternatives they offer. Otherwise, I've always liked their cold brew or any of the other lattes. Nice ambience to chill in, and a nice place to sit outside for a bit for a quick coffee break. read more

Terrific coffee, friendly staff & customers, bight & light space (Windows galore) make this a great place for coffee. I tried Ethiopian drip and it was earthy and smooth, with a long finish. They roast on-premise, which is terrific. There are adequate plugs for working (along the counter and between two of the 6-top tables). Tucked at the end of the street with ample parking on three sides, it has generous hours and uniformly friendly staff. Very good coffee. We went in twice on vacation. A nice guy who was very helpful and cheery must have been management or the roaster .. he was serious about everyone enjoying the coffee. The second time the coffee was pretty good but the girl barista wasn't as into her job. I wasn't asked if I wanted it to stay and I forgot to say. I hate hot coffee in paper. And the size wasn't asked, and I ended up with 4oz in a small 6oz cup. Lol. read more

This is where my husband goes to pick up my Saturday cappuccino. It's always quite good. I only wish that it was a little hotter, but that is a very small quibble. They have alternatives to dairy milk which is nice when I'm trying to be virtuous. It is also a lot easier to get in, get your java, and get out than it is at other places in town.
