The last time my best friend, Houdini (formerly known as Pots & Pans) and I stopped here together was almost exactly 6 yrs ago. It was 1 o'clock in the morning, and we were on our way to our first x-country trip....25 states (and two Canadian provinces) in, coincidentally, 25 days in a rental car. First day was 892 miles and we ended up in TN (I drove all the way while P & P slept most of it). Fun fact, the rental had 223 miles on it when we picked it up, and 12,209 miles when we returned it! Anyway, just coffee back then. Today, it was breakfast b4 a long hike. Plenty of parking. Red Line has all the bells and whistles..lots of neon and stainless steel and an extensive menu. Baking done on premises. I opted for a florentine omelet (spinach and feta), w well-done HFs, and rye toast. Naturally, Houdini got the exact same thing. We booked a table of 8 for Noon on a Sunday. Huge mistake. After waiting in the crowded entryway we were seated in the back room at about 12:10pm, a reasonable wait. Our food order however did not arrive until 1:10pm. The wait staff was clearly overwhelmed. I shared our experience with the manager (older gentleman) at the counter in front and he mumbled something about the kitchen being busy and offered NO apology. Very cute old school diner located in Fishkill, NY. I loved the old school vibe and decor. It made me feel like I went back in time when diners were real diners...great food and hospitality, informal and inexpensive with an extensive menu. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a great menu with a variety of tasty options. You can order of the entire menu any time of the day. Breakfast for dinner...sure! They have so many great options that it was hard for me to chose. The also offer cocktails and an EXCELLENT dessert menu. WOW! I always hit this restaurant when I'm in town for work. One because it's very convenient to hotels, but more importantly, it's the food and service. They never disappoint! This last visit was no exception. I sat at the counter and had MICCI as my server. She is full of energy and excitement to keep her customers happy. She was very informative about places in the area to visit and other restaurants for other types of food. My glass was never empty and my plate was always full. This woman knows everything about customer service. All the staff working with her were just as friendly and hard-working. I highly recommend getting a crock of the French onion soup. Red Line Diner is a solid, casual dining spot in Fishkill. It really is hard to beat this place for a quick and satisfying meal. I've been here many times, and most of the menu items are very good. This is not mind-blowing cuisine, mind you. But for a diner, Red Line is always consistently on point in both presentation and taste. Red Line has excellent burgs, salads, pastas, apps, and more. The restaurant is well managed too. The food is always served in a timely manner, and I've never had a bad waiter or waitress. Plus, they keep the restaurant clean and it always feels inviting. The only possible downside is that Red Line does get busy. But again, they do manage the foot traffic and lines well, and the wait is never overly long. Overall, the experience was positive and service was good. I ordered the grilled salmon over a salad. The salmon was so over cooked as to be bone dry. No sauce available to try and :moisten it up". I only ate a third and the waiter asked to wrap it up. I informed him that it was too dry to be eaten. No response. The other eight people were happy with their meals. Mostly burgers and salads. My new favorite diner when we're in this neck of the woods. Just like a diner should be: options for every taste and whim. Service was prompt and friendly with several of the waiters and manager checking on us and engaging us in friendly conversation. The feel is classic diner but modern enough that you feel you're getting the best dining experience possible. The dessert case is on point tempting you from the moment you walk in, and the cheesecake doesn't disappoint. Love that we can get a variety of cocktails, but as I always say we come for the beer. There's a decent draught beer list with enough local craft beer options even to satisfy us. This place is on my definitely must stop in when we make a trip to the east coast. read more

Absolute gem that I would never have visited if it weren't for uber eats screwing my order up so bad that I left the hotel in cold temps to find food. Atmosphere is exactly what I expect of New York. I've been going to the Red Line Diner for a while now, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently solid--classic above-average diner fare--and the service has always been friendly and reliable. The place is clean, and the staff makes you feel welcome. Even on a recent visit, when their soda machine was acting up, our waitress went above and beyond, trying multiple times to get the Sprite just right. Had a wonderful experience at the redline diner after being high recommended by my daughter, who lives in the area. Our waiter, I think his name was Jimmy was fabulous and looked after myself and my dining companion like we were his own mothers. This was despite how busy the place was with every single table taken on a Saturday at lunchtime. The dishes came quick and were served hot and they were ample. I ordered avocado toast, with lox, topped with capers with a large portion of home fries, and a generous cup of fruit. This was also served with a generous portion of hollandaise sauce, which I didn't even need, but my dining companion scarfed up. This is a typical downstate diner, which has an enormous menu and based on how crowded it was is a very popular spot. It is also just off route 84, which makes it convenient when traveling. The ambience is diner, casual, and everything is sparkling clean. Oh, and don't forget the dessert case. I got a lemon meringue pie piece to go which my husband greatly enjoyed. The only recommendation I have is to fix the locks on two of the bathroom stalls, which don't work. read more

We were looking for a place to stop off the highway. So thankful we stumbled upon this gem!!! Absolutely delicious.

This made for a perfect stop from Buffalo to New Haven, about 5-5 1/2 hours into the the drive. We arrived around 5:45pm on a Sunday and boy was it BUSY! The staff worked like a well-oiled machine and our party of five was seated within 5 minutes. Well waiting, we couldn't help but be drawn to the drool-worthy dessert case. Huge cakes, pies, cheesecakes, mini chocolate bundts, rice pudding, and more. If we weren't already planning on stopping for ice cream, I would have definitely indulged in a sweet while at the diner. The kids ordered from the littles menu. I was happy to see some variety, everything from mini pancakes to salmon and steak. My kids devoured their m&m pancakes, chicken fingers, and cheeseburger (he even talked about this burger the next day). I only wish that the breakfast plate came with fruit. (FYI - drinks are not included with kids plates). My mom and I both ordered salads and added chicken. I was obsessed with my Greek salad. I'm usually one to stay away from feta, because it can get to be over-powering; however, this one was distinctly fresh and very tasty. I loved that there were a couple of stuffed grape leaves in my salad as well; would definitely order this again. My mom loved her spinach and strawberry salad. The fruit was very fresh and dressing added the perfect amount of sweetness. This diner surely has something for everyone! My husband and I were searching for a place to eat close to our hotel in Fishkill. The red line diner along with another diner and some fast food places popped up, so I looked up the menu online for the red line diner and we decided given how late it was, we could go there and have a sandwich. When we got there to say I was pleasantly surprised isn't understatement. The chef specials for the day also came with a recommended wine. We had the chicken with a basil pesto, cherry tomatoes with a balsamic reduction, it was delicious. And to top it off, the desserts were amazing. So we're going back tomorrow for another meal. I have been here numerous times over the years out of convenience, and it was never more that just an okay diner. It's fine if you just want a diner cheeseburger and fries, or a simple omelet. We were seated quickly, although the place was very busy. Service was fast and friendly. I made the mistake of ordering a Pastrami Reuben, which was almost inedible. Gristly, sinewy, messy, tough, and very messy to eat. I ate less than half and got tired of fighting with my lunch, and shoved it away. Obviously cheap Pastrami, sliced too thick and full of fat and gristle. It was really pretty bad. Inedible. The waiter noticed and I just waved him off and shook my head. Not his fault. I don't think I will return here. There are other fair diners in the area, if I need to go to a diner. read more

Red Line Diner has become one of my all time favorite diners since living in Dutchess County. My husband and I met at a diner which is why diners always hold a special place in our hearts so we decided to give this a try. Upon entering, the decor is so vintage and classy and it gives off a retro vibe which you don't see in much diners nowadays. The staff are highly attentive and sweet, very caring to their customers and even provide recommendations if you have any hard time choosing on their menu (it is extensive but in a fabulous way). I recently signed up for their free members account where you can earn rewards and points every time you visit so I'll be using it very often! Now for the food, it's HUGE portions and they put attention to detail to not only making it look aesthetically pleasing but absolutely delicious. A nice stopover that offer a classic diner experience. We arrived early for our nearby apple picking reservation and were starving for a place to eat. This place caught our eye with its striking retro exterior and bustling crowd at noon. Interestingly, half the interior looked like a 80s diner while the back section looked more like a renovated Chinese restaurant; not sure what the history of this lot is. We didn't have to wait long to get a seat either as the staff seems efficient at moving guests through. Regardless, my friend and I enjoyed classic brunch items like Eggs Benedict and a classic omelet. They tasted great but nothing to rave about.
