We celebrated my birthday at the Red Lobster in Downers Grove, Illinois and all we had were superlatives.We were seated immediately ,greeted and served by Kelly had to be the best of the best, the food including coconut shrimp were a delight, flavorable and plentiful.Of course the much sought after cheddar biscuits didn"t disappoint.We even had a most cordial and friendly treatment by the manager.All in all we intend to return soon again. read more

After multiple calls to let the staff know we were there to pick up the order and an hour of waiting we decided to go inside to pick up the order. People were jammed inside not social distancing!!! We went on Saturday afternoon August 24th around 2pm and I'm so disappointed in not just the service but the food itself. We were greeted by 2 sweet smiling faces but that's where it ended. We were seated and our server came over to take our order but when he left he took my grandsons coloring menu with him. We waited and waited but nothing, not plates, biscuits not even a glimpes of him. I had to get up and ask another server for the above and when he came back to the table finally he never said a word. My order was a little hard since I'm on Keto but the rest was pretty easy however he never asked my husband about what dressing for his salad and when the food came out it was warm not hot and done very badly. My shrimp were over done and the fish looked poached not grilled, things just tasted bad. I had to get up again since our server was MIA yet again for more refills for our drinks and one of the very sweet greeter had another server get them for us. No reason in the world for this to have happened where I had to get up twice from our meal to get the basic things we needed. The food was not done the way I wanted and everything was just warm plus our server was MIA the whole time and never even checked on us. Red Lobster: For the seafood lover and Jew! My wife loves her some Red Lobster, boy howdy. Being the best husband in the world I oblige her this fetish of hers as often as I can and such an occasion arose last night. She had completed the first of a few steps towards realizing her dream of becoming an RN so a bit of celebrating was in order, west suburban style! Normally that would involve eye-talian beef and watching My Cousin Vinny backwards with the Spanish audio track but our DVD player was mad at us over our accidentally Netflixing "The Break-Up" with Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn. We're sorry, Mintak DVD player! Anyhoo, the Cheeseburger in Paradise was too busy so we settled on 'Da Lob for our celebratory dinner. Baby in tow we were seated pretty quickly (+1 star to 4) and even got our drink order taken and delivered promptly. Unfortunately that was the last part of the meal we truly enjoyed. My wife ordered their super mega deluxe Lobster feast plate, I the BBQ shrimp and chicken. We shared calamari as an appetizer. The 'mari was... ok. At best. It had fried broccoli and red peppers as well which made it passable but it was nothing to write home, or on Yelp, about. While waiting for our salads, the main entrees came out but with the wrong potatoes on both plates. We got that rectified and then a minute later our waitress came around with the salads and apologized for their tardiness. It was like a bad circus act surrounding our table as plates were laid down, picked up and juggled about. The food was alright. My bbq shrimp and chicken were cooked fine, the sauce a combination of KC Masterpiece and cream of chicken soup. I mean that literally, I'll try reproducing it later. My wife's plate, however, left much to be desired. Her lobster pasta was good but the actual lobster tails - the stars of the dish and namesake of the restaurant - were tough and overcooked to the point of in-edibility. She rarely, and I want to overemphasize ra-air-air-air-air-air-ly complains about her food when we eat out but in this case she had to. The manager took it off our bill, my Jewish guilt led me to leave an over 30% tip and we went home with some leftovers. I don't think this experience turned us off of Red Lobster but next time she's fiending for some seafood I'll definitely think twice about coming here. read more

Bathroom was a complete mess and had standing dirty water in the sink.. Bartenders were cool and handled the orders great and had a personality... Is there a person who does not like Red Lobster? This Red Lobster in particular has been around my entire life and we've always come a couple of times a year (it was only my parents and me - we ate out a lot). They remodeled a couple of years back, so the restaurant is modern and everything is new. The food is always good and in recent years they've added new, modern appetizers and entrees. The Spinach Artichoke and Crap dip appetizer is delicious, as well as the fish and chips entree. Those are two of my favorites. Then there's the never-ending lobster a few times a year, never-ending shrimp and all sorts of other great entrees. They also have non-seafood items for those who aren't really in the mood. Oh, and the biscuits that come before the meal - absolutely amazing!! I'd go to Red Lobster just for the biscuits because, hey, they're so awesome it's unbelievable. read more

I know...I can't believe I'm reviewing this chain restaurant. But, this is for those of you who've been to Red Lobster before... Well, I've experienced better. I mean, this is a relatively inexpensive restaurant that has delicious cheesy biscuits that are a heart plugger and a half, but to die for. Other than that, drinks are weak and over priced, and food is typical average chain seafood restaurant style. The last time we went there, we stopped in for a quick lunch. It was almost empty. Server came by fairly quickly and was mostly efficient. My salad came out, and literally about 20 seconds later a random flying bug flew straight to my lettuce and landed on it while I was attempting to shelter my food. Argh. It wouldn't leave, and I had to remove half my salad. I have no idea what possessed me to order soda, but it arrived and was super sweet and flat. Our food arrived and for some reason it just wasn't very good. Lukewarm, kind of rubbery.... very sad looking. I'm not expecting seafood heaven here, but c'mon. The server then proceeded to talk her head off to other tables about her grandma, her dogs, and what the hell ever else. While managing to ignore us for about 10 minutes. Super cool. And the place was practically empty. Grrrr. So, I have to say, I'm not going back here again. It was one of those quick spots for a cheap, no surprises lunch--- but surprise!!! It was horrible. Extremely disappointed in this Downers Grove location. Thursday September 19,2019 Family of 8 went to this location for the 1st time and the service was horrible. We went for the endless shrimp at 6:30pm and left the restaurant at 10:15pm. 1st there was an 40 minute wait. 2nd my wife cut her finger on her glass of drinking water within 15 minutes of being seated at the table, even before ordering our food. 3rd it took 30 minutes for the refills on the shrimp after the main entrees. We had 2 shrimp refills and not even the whole table received their refills on the shrimp. 4th my son's debt card got charged twice, for the full bill then the actual amount he was putting on his debt card. It's sad that we went here to have a nice family dinner and it went up in flames. read more

The place is packed with no social distancing at all and some people have been waiting here for 2 hours. Tried calling but have been placed on hold for 18 mins now. They should not have allowed people to place orders and then not have it ready. Meanwhile, credit cards have been charged. So much hate for this Red Lobster after reading some of these reviews. Maybe I'm just biased though since I grew up in Carol Stream and have been coming here pretty much all my life. There's too many times that I've come here so I'm going to focus this review just on the last time I came here. I went after church on a Sunday and there was no wait. Sat in the bar area so I could watch some football on the TV. There are some night where it's crazy busy but what do you expect from the only seafood place around? I ordered the endless shrimp of course while the gf got the soup and salad. Sad realization that my metabolism is slipping since in HS I ate 90 shrimp, college was about 70 shrimp, and now, about 4 years removed from college, I settled on 52 shrimp. Though I feel like the shrimp get's smaller every year, it's unlimited so who am I to complain. My waitress was great, I forgot her name but I've had her before and she's always so nice and friendly, and always asks if we're celebrating anything. I always want to answer that we're celebrating the greatness that is Red Lobster. So yeah, I just maxed out on shrimp and ate a few biscuits. Had some left over shrimp and was even allowed to take an extra order home. That mixed with extra biscuits and my baked potato, pretty must just gave me dinner for the night. I came here because i kept seeing their promotional commercials on tv "For a limited time only CRABFEST IS HERE...SEA FOOD DIFFERENTLY..blah blah blah." The outcome of my decision: I only gave this place a 2 because of the lack of good service. My hubs and I were seated fairly quick but our server didn't come around until 15 minutes later. Didn't engage with us and didn't seem to care. Waited for her to take our order which was again another 15 minutes...30 mins already of crummy service. Another couple was seated behind us and she was rather enthusiastic with them. She checked on them 4 or 5 times and only checked on us twice. Totally ignored us and didn't even fill up our water glasses. I had to ask the busboy for water. GRRRRRR. The food was alright. Nothing special. I rather drop $30 for a better surf and turf at a high end restaurant than this place. We ordered the Crab bake. It was good. A lot of food too for 1 person. It had scallops, mussels, crab legs, potatoes and a small piece of corn doused in butter. It was too salty. So yep, not happy with our experience. read more

My husband and I decided to celebrate our birthdays with some crab legs. It used to be a tradition a few years ago. We were greeted at the door and promptly sat to a booth. It was just the two of us and we were sat next to a family of screaming children when on the other side, the row of booths were empty. Luckily that family left soon after being sat. Our waitress arrived right away for our drink orders. She brought our drinks out fast, but not biscuits. It wasn't another 15 minutes before they came after our order was placed and salads came out. I don't know about you, but the ONLY reason we go to Red Lobster is for the cheddar bay biscuits..... We both ordered king crab legs. The first few legs were really good. Half way through I got a knuckle that was cold. Not cold like I was taking too long to eat, but just defrosted cold. After that piece, I lost my appetite. Red Lobster was naturally our first stop in enjoying the best that the burbs have to offer. The good: - ordering a hurricane cocktail during a hurricane - cheese biscuits. yum! What could have been better: - our server didn't notice we didn't have silverware for a long time. - screaming babies at the table next to us (not really Red Lobster's fault, but still affected our experience) Overall, a solid experience, but just not enough to make me want to come back to this specific Red Lobster. This location used to be excellent at one point of time. Recently, the past few times I've been here, my experience have turned into MEH. Came here for lunch yesterday, had the Wood-Grilled Salmon, Lobster and Shrimp. It was OK. The flavors wasn't really hitting it and that plate was a bit small for what I anticipated for the price it ran. DEFINITELY won't be getting that again! I will admit, we weren't happy when we came in on a Monday night and were told 10 - 15 minute wait to be seated. Especially when we could see a whole section of tables were not being used. However, we were seated a short 5 minutes or less later. Our waiter Josh was absolutely amazing! He was at our table very often and followed through with everything he said he would very quickly. He recommended a good dish for my self, which I loved (Crab Alfredo). Overall this was a very good experience regardless of the slight miss-calculation on the part of the front desk (honest mistake). Ive always loved red lobster. But tonight was fun. Its my moms birthday and my mom decided to come here. It was my mom, brother, grandma and I. Our server-Tom- was great. My younger bro and I got kiddie cocktails and the bartender was a little busy so didnt put cherries in the drinks. So when he brought our drinks-which were great by the way-gave us five cherries each. We were excited. Our food was great and we all shared and we ate it all. Red Lobster is a staple from my childhood and was always the birthday dinner choice for my mom and grandma. When I see the name, the logo, and taste the food, it's just a blast of nostalgia. I honestly believe that the food at Red Lobster hasn't changed in all these years either. And maybe that's why I only see it as a three star rating. When your only experience with seafood is Red Lobster, everything is tasty and wonderful (and probably dangerously buttery). However, after going to some other seafood places, you'll start to realize you're getting Red Lobster and not that fresh, still tasting like the sea fish/crab/lobster. And honestly, that's okay. Sometimes you want a burger, sometimes you want McDonalds. Sometimes you want some lightly seasoned, freshly caught shrimp. Other times, nothing sounds better than a shrimp scampi all you can eat extravaganza. When you have that craving for a Red Lobster dish, it will be here and it will be just like you remembered it. I do think the franchise has made a good effort in terms of rewarding dinners with their new rewards app, even though the rewards aren't spectacular. The staff at every location have been friendly and attentive, and this one is no different. The biggest knock I can give is that the price is a little outrageous, definitely capitalizing on the fact that they are a seafood restaurant. If you're looking for great seafood, look elsewhere. If you want some cheddar bay biscuits, all you can eat shrimp, crab or lobster fest, Red Lobster is here for you and nothing is changing any time soon. read more

I always feel bad for the poor server who gets me as their customer, especially during promotions like these. I may have talked up this outing all week at work. Our fish expert was helpful even after discovering all four of us wanted endless shrimp. As to the shrimps, tasty and what you'd expect for $15. They aren't the best in the sea, but you aren't paying for the best. You're paying for quantity. I can't vouch for their other aqua offerings. The biscuits, which I was told were life changing, didn't change my life. Worth checking out if you are like me and have never been. Cross it off the shrimp bucket list. read more

Salty, simply put salty. I am not one to often go to chain restaurants, and unfortunately this visit was a example of why. I went here with my sister after we were running around doing different things. She had a gift card so we decided to use it and have fun. The cheesy bread rolls were good as always but that is basically where the enjoyment ended. We ordered the king crab legs and they were a bit mushy and VERY salty, I could feel myself being preserved from the inside out. The salad was lacking green lettuce and was a little wilted and in general a disappointing meal. The only thing giving this review two stars instead of one was the service. Came here with some friends for the "4 course meal for $15" deali-o they have going on right now. They went with the special, but I opted to get the lobster/scallops/shrimp/mussels linguine pot + salad instead. However, the 4 for $15 is a really good deal cause they give you a TON of food! Did someone say leftovers? Plus unlimited biscuits and all that good stuff. So everyone knows the cheddar biscuits are pretty much the best part. The rest of my meal was good, but I've had better (comparing Red Lob seafood to the seafood I had in the Eiffel Tower probably isn't a good idea, but it's hard to get that experience out of my mind :p). Anyway, the scallops, lobster tail, shrimp and pasta were all cooked well and tender, but there was definitely WAY too much salt. Plus it kind of felt like something was missing. The presentation was pretty nice as well, but the overall meal just didn't hit my "this is AWESOME" button. Our server probably didn't help with my Red Lob experience...I think he was recently hired because he had no idea what he was doing. You could tell he was trying really hard, but he kept forgetting critical things like, ohh FLATWARE! We were seriously waiting with our soups/salads for ~10 minutes. We started eating the salad with our hands because we were so hungry. Not cool man. It also took a really long time for appetizer plates, napkins, refill biscuits, water refills, a second plate (we split), the check, a pen for the check, etc. While the whole situation was really amusing for us, it was kind of awkward how we kept having to ask the OTHER server to bring us stuff that our server kept forgetting to bring. I guess we all have to go through that learning phase though... Oh and dessert. I tried the apple crostata and my husband tried the key lime pie...both were really good! Plus I love that the crostata was steaming hot, which only added to its deliciousness. Overall, Red Lobs is alright, but I personally prefer something a bit more upscale when it comes to seafood. Unless they have specials, I don't think paying the full price for an entree here is worth it when you can get something so much better a few miles away in Oakbrook. read more

I've tried to make a reservation at pappadoux, but they're always is an hour more wait for a even louder and farther restaurant. At red lobster the wait has never been more then I'd say 15 minutes and this Friday me and my girlfriend waited literally 5 minutes. We were greeted very promptly by the waitress who filled our drinks within 8-10 minutes of us being seated as well as brought our biscuits at the same time. The restaurant itself was fairly busy. There was a wait for larger groups and the dining area was full. Thank god we were noted seated by a door I hate that. It was the first thing I had noticed. Kudos. For an appetizer we selected the veggies and calamari as well as the lobster stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms were extremely hot from the oil they were baked in and my girlfriend burned her mouth... Perhaps a heed of caution. Yet still very tasty. It seems that red lobster, being a chain, can afford to make concessions to their customers like offering the combination dishes of pick two or three. We selected the pick three entree and received: Walts fried shrimp, which albeit fried was still good, a baked salmon filet, and another baked shrimp with th sides being veggies and garlic patatos. Very disappointing. It's no wonder that there was no problem getting a table on a Saturday night. Service was slow, had to ask for the biscuits, plates were not cleared between courses even after stacking some of them at the end of the table, scallop order not delivered until rest of dinner was finished, had to ask for a glass to pour a bottle of beer, drink refill took forever..... basically inattentive service for an expensive meal. We went to this location on a recent date night. The server, Lauren, who attended to us was very professional! She was right on target when filling our beverages and greeted us with a smile!
