We haven't been to any Red Lobster for many years (and never this one) so decided to give it a try. Service was very good and waitress friendly. I decided to have the twin lobster special---1 grilled 1steamed----it was very good and the price was reasonable, considering the size of the lobster pieces. The calamari also was very fresh, and the cole slaw was tasty as well. We were impressed with this long time family restaurant chain, and will try the one closer to home sometime to see if it is as good. read more

While I prefer to eat at independently-owned, more authentic ethnic restaurants, I'm not a vehemently anti-chain kind of person. Indeed, sometimes I get a little craving for a Whopper with cheese, or some Chili's boneless buffalo wings, or a Ruby Tuesday salad bar (*gasp!*). So when the in-laws suggested a meal at RL, I didn't recoil in horror, in fact, I happily reminisced about the heavenly garlicky biscuits I stuffed my face with during my one and only previous meal at RL back in Columbus, OH. This RL in Fairview Heights was much nicer than the one back home - kinda dark, low lighting, fairly low-key decor. There was a 20 minute wait, but we sat at the bar and had a drink. As we perused the menu, the dish that caught my eye was the New England Lobster and Crab Bake that they're advertising on tv at the moment. For $30, this had better be good! Sadly, it wasn't that good at all. The scallops were overcooked but edible; the shrimp were succulent and very flavorful; the lobster tail was stringy, tough and bland, the crab was decent enough but I highly doubt there was 1/2 a pound's worth as claimed. The accompanying roasted potatoes were mushy, and the broccoli undercooked. The best thing on the plate was the corn on the cob! For $30, I was disappointed. I would have been happier spending $12 at my local Chinese buffet for their all-you-can-eat crabs legs. Service was excellent, and the biscuit thingies were just as delicious as I remember. But chain or no chain, I won't be returning to RL anytime soon. read more

Decided to come here for my sons 16th bday with my husband and our 6 kids. We got on the waitlist through the website on the way and it said 15 min wait. We get there and they tell us 10-15 min wait. 20 min later we still aren't seated. 40 min pass and still not seated. At the 1hr mark I decide to ask for a manager and get THE nicest guy! Coryelle (sorry if I misspelled your name) was nothing short of amazing. He took very good care of us and our 6 hungry kids! Karen, our waitress, was so caring and amazing as well. I usually don't like to review chain restaurants, especially national ones, but since me and my friend usually go for the All You Can Eat Shrimp thing, I figured I might as well. It's usually my friend's idea as I really don't give a crap for Red Lobster. But I am a big fan of endless food for one price. I've always seen Red Lobster as one of those big-boy chains that doesn't have quality food and all, like the others (Chili's, Applebees, etc). The biscuits, on the other hand, were probably the highlight. Shrimp = meh. You get five choices of different kinds for the AYCE, which seems fair, but I wish there were more I can choose from. The only ones I get are Garlic Butter Shrimp and the Teriyaki. The plain hand-breaded shrimp is pretty much something I can get anyplace else. With the AYCE, not only do you get the shrimp and biscuits, but you get a salad and one side. I usually get either the rice or french fries. Service is always great, so no problem there. And it didn't take us long to get seated, as they text your phone when the table is ready. As long as they keep running this promotion every year, we'll keep going. read more

I've been to this Red Lobster several times and have always had good service, but today I experienced superb service. I was seated as soon as I approached the greeter. After being seated, our server Jamele came to the table and got our drinks. We placed our orders quickly and our food arrived quickly, but not rushed. The timing of the appetizer, salads, and dinner was delivered spectacularly. The food was delicious. Such an awesome experience. The manager was great as well. Cheddar bay biscuits are the draw. They never disappoint. As for the rest of the place... Should have gotten salad and soup. Kids saw crab fest commercial and were dying to come. Wife and I were underwhelmed. Apps were good. Had the steamed mussels and coconut shrimp. Mussels weren't rubbery and the sauce was smooth and right amount of garlic. Coconut shrimp were crispy and moist. Adult crab plates were not worth $30 each. Crab legs were over cooked and a bit chewy. My crab fettuccini was gummy and the noodles were a bit over cooked and mushy. Bottom line: I knew I should not expect fine sea food experience and got what I expected. Go for soup and salad (maybe some apps) and you will be pleased. read more

I haven't been to a Red Lobster in 100 years and I wasn't looking that forward to this lunch when my lunch date chose it. I ordered the Create Your Own Lunch. You got to choose 2 entree choices and a side plus salad. I upgraded the salad to the Lobster Bisque soup. It was a thick creamy soup and a little fishy. For my combo I chose the fried clam strips, garlic shrimp scampi, and the mashed potatoes. I loved the fried clam strips. The shrimp scampi had a decent garlic flavor but I felt it was a little greasy. The mashed potatoes had a good flavor and if they were hot would have been perfect. My lunch date ordered the Asian glazed salmon. He loved it. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say the best thing going here is the Cheddar Bay Biscuits. They are a bit salty but really good. Service was decent. All in all it was a positive chain restaurant experience. If you're going to spend $50 on lunch I can think of a lot better places though. read more

I again am not really a big fan of Red Lobster like when I was younger. I feel like the portions just aren't what they used to be for the price. I used to get the fresh fish selections and know they price is so sky high, I don't feel like it is worth it. It was like $30 for the small portion of salmon. I am not a fan of fried shrimp and fish, so what are the alternatives? If i want grease fries fish, I'll go to the Captain. The service is usually good to ok. I have been a fan of this Red Lobster for ages! I have frequented this location many times. The wait staff is pretty friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere is nothing to write home about, but the food is delectable! Also, it is no longer "smokey" (as Michael H. wrote). The one downside is that on busy weekend nights, the wait can be a bit long. The signature Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits are a must-have. There is nothing else like them! Seasoned with garlic and cheddar, they are moist, filling, and (best of all) able to be taken home! Otherwise, they have great crab legs, shrimp, and pasta dishes. The garlic mashed potatoes make an excellent side to any seafood dish - prepare to go home stuffed and happy! read more

We had a party of five and our server literally would not stop bringing us endless shrimp. We have 12+ boxes of shrimp to take home. Only three of us even ordered the shrimp. We ran out of room on the table every 5 minutes when three new shrimp plates were brought out. We took my Mother-in-law out to eat at her favorite Red Lobster. The food was great. She had shrimp and loved it. I had the seasonal bake that they were featuring, and I really enjoyed it. There are certain things that we count on at every Red Lobster, and those are the Caesar salads with shrimp topping and those awesome cheddar biscuits. The hardest thing to do is to not fill up on the biscuits before the food arrives. The bar is the only reason that this Red Lobster didn't get a higher rating. When we arrived, we were told that there would be a 45 minute wait, so we headed to the bar. The good news is that our pager went off 15 minutes later. The bad news is that no one even said hello or offered to take our order the entire time we were in the bar. After our waitress seated us, she did take our drink order, but it took a very long time to get our drinks. The next time we're in that neighborhood, I think we'll introduce my MIL to Joe's Crab Shack, just up the street. read more

OK so obviously this isn't the first time we have ate here. But every time we crave seafood or see yummy red lobster commercial this is where we come and every time we regret coming after we come. This is really more of a note to self don't go! Learn to cook crab legs! I feel like I've wasted money every time we get bill like how did it jump to that much! and I know it is seafood but everything is so salty waitress refilled water at least 4 times. Worst service I have had in a while. Took an hour to get our food. You could tell it had been sitting on the plate for a while and reheated.

The waiter forgot to fill waters, forgot a water for one person the entire meal, and it was just so-so service. We went home and the next day attempted to reheat a biscuit by microwaved for 30 seconds on a earthenware plate. The biscuit burst into flames! I have never seen food burst into flames and there is nothing wrong with our microwave as it is a newer unit and not a powerful one, just moderate. It makes me wonder what is in the biscuits they served us. When we took it out of the microwave the entire thing was black inside and outside despite having been removed as soon as it caught fire. I snuffed it out. After it cooled I tried to look at it to see what happened, what caused this? Was it the cheese or too much oil on top? Every speck inside & out was pitch black so it was not something added on top. What was it? The bursting into flames biscuit could have cost me a microwave if not worse! read more

First visit to RL in about 3 years, 1st for this location. Went for lunch and it was busier than I expected. Good sign. We were seated immediately and the hostess gave us a quick tour of the menu including the lunch specials. There are quite a lot of lunch options which is nice, also a nice selection of non fish items for people like my husband. Our waitress was also very friendly and kept an eye on us the entire meal, checking on our progress periodically. The cheddar Bay Biscuits are still delicious as ever! Husbands meal started with a side salad too, he said it was fresh and tasted good. His meal was the spicy Cajun chicken linguini. Very good size even though it was the lunch size. Ample chicken and not overly spicy, but did have a nice kick. I had the tilapia tacos. They came in a set of 3 and also with a side of rice pilaf which I didn't expect, and frankly, seemed like a strange companion. It tasted fine, but I didn't eat that much of it. The tacos were super tasty. They were filled with fish which was super and it was also grilled and had that nice flavor from the grill. Really enhanced the flavor. The veggies inside were nice and crisp and added that texture that you need in tacos. The creamy sauce on the top was also a great addition. Very tasty tacos. Would definitely order again. Terrible service last night. Got seated at 615pm and had to ask the manager at 705 pm if the kitchen was too busy. Got a "no" from him and our salads showed up a few minutes later. At approximately 755 pm, we got our meal. For our troubles, the manager gave us some gift certificates, while a great gesture, lack of followup after the 705 conversation ruined the experience. Dont come here for lunch. Typically when you go to a restaurant at lunchtime they move faster but it still took us almost two hours to eat here for lunch and there were only three of us. We arrived around 1230 pm. The food was typical Red Lobster food (no qualms about the food) but it was pretty dead in there and seafood doesnt take very long to cook so im not understanding why it took so long. Staff was nice and friendly but way too slow for me. I dont think we will be visiting to this location again. read more
