This place is just fine - think TGI Friday's or Applebee's sort of food. There's a nice outside area and it was not that crowded for a Saturday night - we were seated right away. Unfortunately, the staff forgot we were outside and I had to go inside after about 20 minutes and get them to come out. Drinks were good in a kind of cruise ship style way - the price was definitely reasonable, though. The food was classic American - my French dip was a bit more like a cheesesteak in terms of presentation, except for the horseradish sauce. It was kinda soggy and hard to dip. The onion rings were super good - thick yet cooked all the way through and a perfectly crispy breading. Was in Walla Walla in a business trip. We ate dinner here. I was extremely tired from the long drive and meeting earlier in the day so I just went with a hamburger. The burger seemed to be a premise not fresh pressed so I was disappointed n the flavor and could eat it all. It wasn't necessarily anyone's fault, I just get a weak stomach on certain, lower quality beef products. I know this about myself and should have asked more questions before ordering, but like I said I was tired and just ordered something easy. I do have to say the bun was very cute and the fresh fries were absolutely delicious. Service was good and attentive to those who were drinking alcoholic beverages, but I was drinking water and had to wait a long while for a refill and only after I asked for it. Wow! One of the best Bloody Marys I have had in awhile. We sat down at the bar and with in 5 mins we were sucking on the straw of one the best spiciest Bloody Mary I have had in a long time. 1st time here, was excited...until... The waitress came by, dropped off our menus, and scooted off so fast I thought maybe she had to go to the bathroom. I had questions..but I'd wait. But when she grabbed the drink order, she zoomed away again. My buddy ordered a King Kong burger for 22 bucks..BUT, he had to pay 3 extra bucks for onion rings, which were almost inedible because sadly, they were so oily. The most memorable part of the burger was the imprint of a monkey on the bread..nothing to rave about. I got the prime rib dipper because of the reviews. It was actually boring. Hardly any sauce, the bread was a tad hard, it was just...ok. I will say, the best part were the fries, and for 20 bucks, the waitress brought a refill..then skated away again in full speed mode. I was at a loss for words for the service. In a nutshell, lunch was 2 sandwiches & 2 beers with tax..$62. that didn't include the tip (which I was way too generous due to the lack of service). The very best prime rib dipper I've ever had and I've had a lot of dip sandwich in my 76 years. The french fries fantastic, slightly seasoned and amazing. The service was great and attentive. Beverage are a great seller of beer, wine, mixed drinks, soft drinks and Bottomless Iced Tea. The atmosphere was just amazing, so many big screen TVs with a variety of sport shows ( golf , baseball ) and kid friendly TV documentary. I'm now a huge fan of THE RED MONKEY. We met my brother and his wife there on Monday May 27th, 2024. We were visiting from Seattle area and were with our dog. We had enjoyed eating at the Monkey in the past and was happy that it was dog friendly. The food server said that it was OK except we could not put 2 tables together, sadly, only tables left outside were ones that seat only two. The others in the party had already pushed tables together leaving a wide enough row, still, we were told by the food server that management policy was to not put tables together. Since we wanted to visit, we left for the Big House Brewery, where we easily found outdoor seating. My point is The Red Monkey lost a customer only because we were not allowed to push two tables together, even though the table would be full. read more

The first prime rib dipper I had many months ago was cosmic, one of the best I've ever had, especially with extra prime rib and mushroom/cheese. BUT!!! Since then, I've brought friends and foodie visitors from out of town to the restaurant (and ordered the dipper for pickup) at least 10 times since then. The lack of consistency is shocking. Today, this issue was that they had run out of the usual bread, and used some lame-ass wonder bread type of whatever faux food it was, which immediately dissolved almost before you even have a chance to dip it. When I asked about that, I was told that the bread orders for that are 'back and forth.' What.ever. The last time I ordered online they forgot the jus. Two of the orders before then were flavorless gristle. This place is so close to having the best dipper in town, but it's so inconsistent that I now give up completely on the dipper, a $20 sandwhich. I'm not taking my out of town guests who love good food to Red Monkey any more, despite the nice atmosphere and good beer. If you want to take your family there for OK food in a chill environment with lots of TVs and beer, then go for it. But don't expect to get the same food you ordered last time if you care about the food. The staff seems to care when you meet them, but why the heck can't they produce a basic dipper sandwich consistently? What up, kitchen?! Feeling totally ripped off and disappointed again today.... This review is for service only as we didn't eat here. Was really wanting to as the menu sounded delicious. We were a party of 3 and it took 10 minutes just to have them take our name for the wait list. Told it would be about 30 minute wait. 30 minutes turns into 40 and then we check to see where we are on the list. We were next so we were happy again. Then a gentleman walks past us on his way out and tell us it was horrible service and we should run for the hills and find something better unless we have 3 hours to spare from that point. We then notice that no one in the packed restaurant is actually eating. There was one couple with food. Said something to the receptionist about this and we were given major attitude and she stormed off. So we bounced. Who ever is managing this place is overwhelmed and needs Gordon Ramsey to come help out before it tanks. read more

My girlfriend and I have been on a fitness journey but for our cheat meal this week, we decided the best place to go was "Red Monkey" in our local Walla Walla! It's Tuesday so we figured it wouldn't be too busy... boy we were wrong. Fortunately, we had a early dinner at approximately 5:00 PM so we were able to be seated right away. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful! The menu just recently changed so I wasn't able to get my old favorite, I had to step out of my comfort zone this time. Tuesday is Taco Tuesday, so my girlfriend and I both ordered some Tacos and drinks! Even though the place was packed with hungry customers, our food didn't take too long to arrive at our table! My girlfriend and I enjoyed our wonderful tacos with 14 different TVs all around us! To top of the great meal, we selected the gooey brownies for desert and they were delicious! I'm a fan of the monkey out of necessity. I've been in Walla Walla several times over the years during football season and they are the only place on town that I could find with the PAC 12 network showing the Husky game. This weekend we were in town for golf and wine tasting, and had a little time before dinner. UW had a late kickoff so a few of us headed down for a beer and a ballgame. I appreciate the beer list and numerous taps. The Kung Fu Death Monkey Double IPA might be a bit much, but you can find more mainstream brews. As for food, this is a pretty much a sports bar so set your expectations accordingly. It's not fine dining, but it's fine. My food experiences here have been chicken wings (very good) and a burger (good). They have the games I want to watch, many screens for multitasking, and a good selection of beers. Great general seating area and just a block from central Main Street. Great for families, singles and couples. The servers were all very friendly and attentive. Let me start by saying 3 stars still feels too good I have eaten at this establishment well over 100x in my life including the time I worked here and every time I try to give it a go again it's worse every time. For starters it was hard to find a table that wasn't "closed off by staff" or full of dirty dishes. I could tell they just had a rush because the waitress was ready to get it all done since they were closing in an hour and a half which totally took away from every possible part of the dining experience for me. My fries had to of been either sitting in a bowl out of the heat for well over 30 min or just sat in the window for way too long they were disgusting and cold. The burgers at the red monkey and stone hut have always been my favorite and this time it was the most sub par burger I have had in all of walla walla in a long time. I hate to leave bad reviews but I'm so angry that we spent $70 and didn't even get asked if we wanted boxes and didn't get our refills until we were ready to walk out the door and the refills weren't even the original sodas we had. I understand it's the end of a long night but AS A SERVER MYSELF that is EMBARRASSING behavior. This was a pregnancy craving I had all day long and was hoping it would be like it used to be. On the slow side and considering the space allowances with the current pandemic wit fewer customers you'd think it would be faster wouldn't cha? Had some fish and shrimp special with cole slaw that wasn't bad. I ate it but wouldn't order it again. The slaw was really good, fresh, crisp. The seasoning on the fries wasn't asked for or appreciated. I don't order seasoned fries and didn't this time either. They weren't good. The fish, marginal and not served hot same for the shrimp. I asked em' about a hat with their logo on it on my way out, 25 bucks. You kidd'in me? 25 bucks to advertise their business. My wife and I visited this place for a date night while visiting Walla Walla. We wanted something a little more casual after a more formal afternoon of wine tasting. We were immediately impressed with the atmosphere. Cool decor, large projection screen showing the women's World Cup, clean, music wasn't too loud. Everything was great. We split the Money Mac Bites and the garden burger and upgraded to the onion rings. Again, everything was great. The Mac bites had a bit of spice and were just really tasty. The garden burger was cooked perfectly and had really fresh veggies and avocado. The onion rings were some of the best I've ever had. The trifecta was that the service was good, too. Great name for a bar, but now children are allowed. To the waitress who seated us right by the women's restroom, thank you for thinking that would be a nice gesture of convenience. The place was virtually empty and the other tables and booths weren't reserved. This must be the most sought after booth in the entire place, right? After looking over the drink menu and googling what was in a Moscow Mule (it was a happy hour special), I decided on water. If you are a white wine drinker, there is a Seven Hills Riesling that would be wonderful with my salad on a hot summer night, but it is February. There is also only one cider, Angry Orchard, so water it was. If you are a beer drinker, you might have more options. The menu is full of food with cheese and calories, possibly leftover from its days as a bar. I was looking for something light. My Green Goddess chop salad had a lot of flavorful bacon, a very small bit of avocado, some small diced tomatoes, a few tasty, thinly sliced onions and a lot of romaine lettuce. I did have the mozzarella cheese taken off (Chèvre would have been a much better option), and I substituted the dressing for balsamic vinaigrette, which I hoped was healthier than the Green Goddess dressing that the waitress described. The salad was good; that's all. If you enjoy salads that have more character, go elsewhere. If you are a lover of former bars now with a children option, this might be a place to check out at least once. I probably won't be back unless I'm guaranteed the best table in the house, which I'm sure is that bathroom table. read more

This review is based on only one visit but, unfortunately, it may be my only visit. We arrived at about 5pm on a Friday and we were seated right by the women's restroom. Not the best table in the house but it does have a great view of the one huge TV screen, if you are facing it! For those who come for the TV screens, there are enough that you should be able to see at least three or four easily. The menu is ok. There are enough choices that you can probably find something to eat. However, If you are looking for gourmet dishes you will be sorely disappointed. I ordered the 'shroom burger. When it arrived it looked quite appetizing. However, when I bit into it, it was a grease burger. The fat drippings almost covered the whole plate by the time I had finished eating it. The fries were quite acceptable but the grease in the burger overshadowed the taste of everything else. Fortunately I had some moose drool to temper the congealing fat. I probably won't be back unless I am with a group who insist on going and then I will try something completely different. Oh man. Where to begin? I want to type out a full story of my two terrible experiences here, but based on past reviews, I guess I should have known what I'd be getting. If the management doesn't care, why should I? Terrible service at the front of the house AND the back of the house. I gave them a second chance and there were a total of 8 significant examples of poor service between my two visits over the course of two days. The issues had nothing to do with COVID.
