    Entrance to the clubhouse

We were invited to join extended family for brunch today at Cantigny's clubhouse restaurant, Red Oak Room. I've never been here before- Cantigny nor the restaurant. The grounds are beautiful. The restaurant was fine, just very, very crowded with loads of kids everywhere, tightly packed tables, quite loud, and servers running to keep up. We had 11:00 reservations, but had to wait another 15 minutes for a table. I'm giving it 4 stars as the food was excellent, lots of vegetarian options, fresh omelette station, and sooooo many fresh berries (raspberry, strawberry, blueberry AND blackberries!) that I think I ate $18 worth of berries alone. Bread pudding, Quattro Formaggi pasta, and roasted potatoes also rocked. $18 for adults, $11 for children 4-11, I think. So that's a really good deal for a brunch in the Chicago area! Full bar. Really nice restrooms and lounge area. Free parking.

Cantigny is a beautiful and expansive park in Wheaton, which includes a very nice golf course, with a pro shop and a clubhouse restaurant called the Red Oak Room. The only time I have visited this establishment was for my niece's wedding reception two years ago. The private banquet/event space and the grounds around it are stunning. But the food and service was even better. I think it was the best wedding reception I've ever been to. With around 150 people, the space was laid out with room to spare so it felt luxurious and not at all cramped. There was a bar with excellent bartenders, room for the dance floor to remain empty so no tables had to be removed after dinner. And the food! Guests had a choice from 3 entrees - filet mignon, salmon and chicken. Not easy to offer 3 different meals and get them all done perfectly. Both a soup course and salad were served (after the cocktail hour which had a variety of tray-passed hors d'oeuvres). The filet was at least 7 ozs of pure perfection with accompanying potato and veg. Champagne was poured for a toast and a choice of red or white wine was served throughout dinner. A wonderful dessert buffet was served in addition to the wedding cake. The service was also perfection capped off with coffee service with really delicious coffee. The wait staff was very pleasant and professional and made sure the dining experience was stellar for each and every guest. A great DJ had the crowd dancing for hours and later in the night, more food - Chicago pizza and Italian beef sandwiches with all the fixings for anyone who wasn't still stuffed from dinner and served with to go boxes to take some with you if you were still too full. It was a very nice venue with wonderful food and service - it was perfect in every way!

I'd go 2 1/2. This is for Mothers Day brunch in the le Jardin room. My family of 4 has been here before for brunch and enjoyed it a little more than this visit. Food is okay, nothing spectacular, a few things not done well (crab legs, desserts). The service was sub par. Continually ran out of water/other drinks and slow on plate removal. The venue is very nice, unfortunately this year spring is late and construction is fully underway. Love the park, the brunch is average.

First Birthday Brunch at Cantigny! They gave us ice cream and a candle for her!

I chose this location for a birthday brunch. It seemed affordable and had decent reviews. I was able to book a table easily a few weeks in advance for a large party. We were promptly seated, our table had some lovely scenic views of a lake and the golf course! Kids enjoyed seeing the wildlife (we spotted ducks, turtles, fish). It kept them busy throughout the brunch. They also enjoyed the outdoor balcony. It wasn't used for brunch the day we visited -- but I imagine it would be pretty lovely in the spring and summer. We were able to visit it and enjoy some fresh air though. The food was okay. Comparable to many golf courses or places like villa Olivia. They had a decent but very basic spread for brunch. Menu consisted of: Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, penne noodles, bread pudding, a make your own omelette station, a few fruits, a very dried French toast, eggs Benedict, a yogurt station, and a few desserts like donut holes and danishes. Some stuff was cold but I noticed that staff would switch out dishes fairly quickly to avoid this. They also were constantly refilling coffee and water glasses and taking plates. Drinks were served to you directly. If you wanted anything other than water your server would bring it to you! They had sangria, mimosas, and bellinis and all sorts of brunch drinks. Around $7-$8 a glass. Nice strong drinks! The birthday girl got an ice cream with a candle which they lit for us and let us sing happy birthday. It was a nice bonus! They made our day really nice!

Definitely a solid three star breakfast. The setting is beautiful, with a great view of the golf course, and for $13.95, the buffet selection cant be beat. However, service is a bit flakey and some of the food is not so good because it doesnt get turned over enough. Good: Sausage Bacon Carved Meat (listed as ham on the placard but actually was turkey) fruit potatoes Bad: Johnny Cakes (small and dry) Grits (congealed and tasteless) Southern eggs benedict (had potential with the fried green tomato on it, but overall it was too dry and needed quite a bit of salt to make it palatable) DIdnt try: omelets (but the ones that passed by looked well made and they had a lot of ingredient choices) French toast Biscuits and Gravy cereal yogurt baked goods waffles All in all a pretty good brunch for the price. All drinks, aside from coffee, are extra.

She was an indispensable part of wedding planning for us. I interviewed with a few wedding planners, but Maria was the most personable and helpful among those that I met. She was enthusiastic and even offered free advice at the consultation before I even hired her! For the most part, I planned my wedding remotely. We got married in Chicago but by the time most of the planning was happening we had moved out of state. Maria found the best vendors for us and was able to maximize our visits to Chicago. She wrote thorough and timely emails in response to my (admittedly neurotic) queries. She also knows a TON of people in the business. She found out that our caterer WENT OUT OF BUSINESS almost a full month before the caterer sent a notification to clients. She called us, explained the situation and already had plans of how to fix everything to make our day perfect. We turned a disaster into a minor inconvenience. A few days before the wedding, we moved the location of the ceremony due to rain. Maria handled ALL of the communication with vendors, reconfigured the schedule of events and handled the new last minute decorations. It was seamless and NOT stressful at all. That's not something many brides can say during the wedding week. On the day of my event, I felt like Maria was everywhere at once. It was amazing! She had previously mentioned (in passing) that she had another wedding that day - and you would have never known. Everything went smoothly (and if it didn't, I never heard about it!) If I ever plan another event in the Chicago area, I will reach out to Maria. She was a pleasure to work with and I am glad that her business seems to be doing so well.

The most recent of these is the 2025 exhibition Hokusai and Ukiyo-e: The Floating World (on view from May 31 to September 21). This immersive experience transports visitors to the lively and refined world of 17th-century Edo-period Japan. The exhibit vividly captures a time when Edo (present-day Tokyo) thrived as the cultural and economic heart of the nation, defined by its devotion to the arts, nature, and the pleasures of daily life. A highlight of the exhibition is the U.S. debut of the Museum Galleries - Chiossone Collection, featuring a remarkable 70-piece selection of ukiyo-e masterpieces. I booked them a mere 10 weeks prior to my wedding and their event coordinator was very accommodating. We had about 30 guests attend and the Grill Room and attached dining area was just the right size for us. Since we were a smaller group as far as weddings go, many other local venues didn't want our business or didn't want to give us a Saturday date. Glendale Lakes, however, not only gave us Saturday - they gave us fantastic service as well. We held the ceremony in the Grill Room, then moved everyone to the dining area (separated by a wall from the ceremony room), while the DJ and dance floor people set up in the ceremony room. Once everything was set up, the wall between the two rooms was removed and it became one large room. The transition was seamless and did not detract from dinner. The rooms were beautiful (no hideous casino carpet here) and reasonably priced. We had considered similar venues that were 2 or 3 times the cost and decided we'd rather pocket the cash and save by having our wedding here instead! The mantle over the fireplace in the Grill Room was breathtaking once decorated with flowers and candles. It made a gorgeous backdrop to the photos of my groom and I seeing each other for the first time that evening. If you're considering having your wedding here, visit the rooms when they are set up for a wedding - they "show" so much better when they are decorated. The dinner food was AMAZING. I usually hate wedding food and grab some takeout afterwards, but this place delivered! We offered our guests the filet (steak), garlic chicken, and salmon. We heard rave reviews on all 3 dishes, and I personally ate as much garlic chicken as my corseted dress would allow me to pack in! They have a patio area out back that was just gorgeous for photos. We were there during sunset, and the sky was lit up pink and blue behind us in many of our pictures. Just a few things were disappointing: The venue has a few party rooms, and the one next to us was LOUD. My dinner was accompanied by blaring music leaking through the wall. They could use better soundproofing between their rooms. During my dad's toast, all some of us could hear was the polka beat from next door. Glendale Lakes gets points for trying to quiet the other party down a bit during our dinner, but they weren't successful. And my other complaint is that they only served the chocolate part of my cake! During the cake cutting, my husband and I cut a chunk out of the vanilla center, but in the kitchen they only cut up and served the chocolate part. When I complained, they apologized and told us they didn't know there were different flavors. That's a hard sell with me - my husband and I had already cut a chunk out of the middle layer, revealing the vanilla inside. How do they miss that? I specifically ordered a two-flavor cake to cater to people who prefer one flavor or another, so I was disappointed to see chocolate getting served exclusively. Overall, Glendale Lakes is great for small groups (and for big groups, too, by the looks of the party next door to ours). My wedding was beautiful and I'm thrilled they came through for us.

Each time the guests were impressed with the food. This particular review will reflect on the most recent event we held here, our 4 year old daughter's birthday. The staff was amazing. Nancy the banquet coordinator was very attentive and helpful through out the entire process. She had designated two helpers which were on point for the entire event. One girl's name was Haley and unfortunately I did not get the other girls name. They were there from the very beginning to help us decorate the room. They stayed close by throughout the duration of the party and helped clean up at the end. The food was delicious. They have a rule that they only are able to keep the buffet food out for two hours to ensure quality. I requested it be served at 11:30 but not all of our guests had arrived yet, so they took the initiative to delay serving it until more people had arrived. Fantastic. When it was being served it was hot and delicious. We chose the Salad, Salisbury steak, chicken dumplings, mac and cheese, buttery corn nibblets, dinner rolls and apple crumb cake to be served. I also had two guests that needed to eat gluten free due to food allergies and (with prior notification) the chef had accommodated them wonderfully. The girls also came around frequently offering refills on pepsi products, juices, or water. Lunch was a hit. Unfortunately they did not allow us to box up the remainder buffet food to send home with the guests as it is against their policy. Perhaps, in future they can draft up a waiver that allows the guests to take the food but not hold the hall responsible in case someone gets sick. The atmosphere in the big hall (i believe it's called the fonte room) is much more pleasing than the smaller hall. The smaller one is long and narrow and completely carpeted. It lacks natural light but, does have a very charming faux fire place and mantle which serves as a great photo opt spot. The bigger hall is beautifully lit with natural light and has a beautiful damask wallpaper design on one wall. It's also half carpet and half wood which serves as a great dance floor. Another great party at a great venue. On top of having great prices we even got a discount for being returning customers. Thanks Glendale Lakes!

The restaurant itself has a beautiful view of their lake. I definitely recommend a membership if you live nearby and plan to visit multiple times a year. Another great benefit of the membership is the reciprocity to other gardens throughout the country. A great value!

I haven't been to the arboretum since I was a kid and used to go frequently with my grandparents…read more Bored one Saturday, I decided to take my outdoorsy 4 year old daughter. We mainly just explored the Children's Garden area. Thankfully, there are bathrooms nearby. They were clean. And there was a vendor selling snacks outside (and yummy sangria) so I bought some there and didn't bother with the indoor restaurant. I would recommend if you're going with Young ones, to bring a stroller!! Children 3 and under are free admission. Tickets are a couple dollars cheaper if purchased online. I paid $25 for adult admission. We would have liked to take the tram around, but I didn't realize it only runs a couple of times and sells out quickly. So if you're interested in the tram ride, buy tickets when you first get there. My daughter loved the rope bridge/tree house area. Definitely a place to add into your rotation of places to go, especially if you have kids that love being outside in nature.
