I emailed them at their contact info on their website, I received a response asking me to fill out a catering request on the site. Later I received a quote that has nothing to do with the request, as I have my own wood burning stove and was asking for a flat fee. After a prompt response that I would receive a corrected quote, I instead was emailed asking me if I had reviewed the initial quote and wanted to move forward. I asked for multiple toppings and pizza for 25 in my own oven. I finally received the adjusted quote but it was for only 15 pies with not much in the way of toppings. After another round of email questions about size of pies etc, an hour later I get an automated email saying they are booked. What? When I emailed back to point out how unorganized the process was, the owner promptly responded telling me they are highly organized (s you can see from my description above) and how many events they do, and they are booked until early November, and most importantly that I had misspelled the name of the oven in our yard. He finished his unprofessional email with "it's probably best we do not work together in the future"..... like I would. The funny part is they were almost double the cost of the others, and I realized in this process I had their pizza before at an event and it was average at best! read more

Ok, I admit it, I have officially become a pizza addict...thanks to Red Oven! It's a love/hate relationship really. I love taking a bite of the steaming fresh out-of-the-oven orgasmic goodness and not feeling guilty about the calories (around 500 for the WHOLE pizza--that's half he calories of 1 slice of Costco)! I love that their flour is stone-ground from Italy where GMO is banned (take note America!!)! I love the simplicity of the balanced meal concept (Margherita) yet complexity of the melt-in-your-mouth dough! Crunch, then melt. Seriously this is as good as it gets without having to buy a plane ticket to Italy! I've seen a serious cult following of first generation Italians at the places they frequent (Solana Beach and GreenFlash are where I go). I hate it when they are not around when I crave the pizza! Please open a restaurant already so I can feed my addiction whenever!!! Quick note on price--totally worth it! Please don't insult their quality by comparing it to the fake $5 pizzas offered elsewhere...the cost of making the pizza is 10x more (yes nosy little me asked) so you are actually getting much better value in comparison!!!! I swung by their booth at the Solana Beach Farmer's Market and snuck in an order right before they were wrapping up for the day. I ordered the Margherita with buffalo cheese and waited on pins and needles in anticipation of my first bite. A beautifully colored pie greeted me when my order was ready. It was every bit as good as it looked. The sauce was well balanced and the cheese was amazing. The dough is the real star with its perfect charring, slight crispiness and and a hint of sweetness. "This was a beautiful Easter indeed...I got to try Red Oven Pizza at the Solana Beach Farmer's market. We basically ordered one of everything...Margherita, Parma, Alsatian, Roasted Pepper with Italian mushroom, and the fresh arugula and shaved Parmesan drizzled with truffle oil. I have two words-- "hello mouthgasm!!!" Wait, make that "mouthgasms." I was so inspired that i had to write this review. While the different ingredients pleased the diverse palates in our party (ranging from herbivores to carnivores), the one common thread was how good the dough was. Initial crunch, then melt in your mouth. I miss Naples. After talking to the Pizzaiolo (Justin) I found out that each dough batch is made lovingly by hand, and aged to give it optimal taste. It's pure--water, flour, water and salt. No oil, no sugar, no preservatives. Because of the work that goes into this, paying $10 for a Margherita is a steal! Even if you upgrade to Mozzarella di Bufala (water buffalo milk flown in every few days from Naples), it is still such an amazing price compared to the typical $16 that restaurants charge. And...I doubt the restaurants age their dough or offer the high grade cheese. For those who snob at the $3 upgrade for Mozzarella do Bufula,...think about the air transportation cost alone, and the fact that its more flavorful and lactose free (hence no bloated feeling), the value is so much greater. It's barely the cost of tip! H E L L O! Now that I've gotten a taste of "first class," I'm not settling for anything less. No need to waste calories when you can get fresh, healthy, and gourmet! Their pizza is delicious: Whole wheat crust that doesn't taste whole wheat (in the good way), farm fresh toppings, and ingredients flown in directly from Italy. Ingredients and toppings can vary depending on the season and what's available at the market that week. Aside from the pizza, I also fell in love with their fresh basil lemonade this summer. I am eagerly awaiting butternut squash to make its appearance on the menu this fall. The owner and staff take pride in their food and are knowledgeable about where everything comes from. Red Oven catered my wedding about a month ago and we received phenomenal food and service. Justin helped me plan the dinner and even gave me some great tips about the wedding venue. Everyone I talked to that night was raving about the pizza. They helped us to achieve the casual yet elegant ambiance we were striving to create for our wedding. And did I mention that their prices are WAY more reasonable than any other catering company we looked at in the San Diego area? My husband lived in Italy for 3 years while serving in the army and we both agree that the pizza is better than anything we ever had in Italy! I can't say enough great things about Red Oven. Yummmmm! Finally was able to go and get my first Red Oven pizza. As it was my first time I asked which to get and they steered me to the Margherita. I ordered it with the gluten free crust. If I hadn't of known it was gluten free nothing would have clued me in that it was. The crust was like a regular artisan hand prepared crust not mealy or boring like most GF crusts. Red Oven was sponsoring a charity golf event for Fresh Start Surgical gifts and had an oven on one of the tee boxes. I met Justin and had a slice of his margarita pizzas. It was fabulous. So we started talking about ovens and he gave me his card to discuss further. I called Justin and we discussed several different ovens. I ended up purchasing and installing one of the ovens he uses for his pizza at my house. I made pizzas and although they were good they weren't RED OVEN. I had some friends in town and hired Justin to come cater a party using the newly installed oven. It was a huge success. Everyone at the party was raving about the pizza from the crust(perfect crunch, light, and slightly chewy) to authentic delicious ingredients. The combination of flavors was second to none. A direct quote from one of our guests. "That was some of the best pizza I've ever had and I consider myself a pizza connoisseur". I will be hiring Justin to come run the oven many more times.
