We've used Red Oven for two events over the last year, both with about 30 attendees. Justin has been polite, on time, and super easy to work with. He's awesome about taking requests while he's cranking out pizzas, and is always friendly and engaged. The online portal makes it easy to select your menu as well. You will be hooked from the first bite, I know I was. I had the pleasure of sharing my friend Melanie's Pizza the "Pizza ALSATIAN " it has Fresh Ricotta, Caramelized Onions, Bacon, Gruyere Cheese and Parsley. she had them substitute the caramelized onions with fresh mushrooms. It was delish ! I also got to sample the" Pizza MARGHERITA" it consists of San Marzano Tomato, Fior di Latte Mozzarella, Fresh Basil, Parmigiano Reggiano and EVOO. Again an amazing pie, at the end of the evening the chef AKA Pizzaiolo was experimenting with different ingredients and I had the opportunity to try a few of his creations , all of them were 100% spot on. I'm not sure pizza gets any better than this. We saw the stand with the oven attached outside of Iron Fist Brewering. I sort of needed something before drinking so we ordered a margherita pizza. I was absolutely floored when I tried it because I thought it would be more like a generic ballpark pizza. Instead, I had one of the best pizzas, which only compare with two other places I know of that make authentic Italian (Naples) pizza. We spoke to the guy afterwards since I wanted to let him know that I enjoyed the pizza. He said the oven is from Italy, if I understood him correctly, and that's really part of what makes the pizza so fantastic (not to mention the obvious- ingredients!). Super fresh, quality ingredients and served piping hot. I don't even known what "piping" hot means, but everyone says it, and it sounds pretty good. We tried the margherita pizza which is a simple, straightforward pie. It was delicious. Their other pizzas have more gourmet toppings (most of which make my mouth water just thinking of them) but we'll save those for next time. Thin crust and as fresh as can be. I eat pizza on a weekly basis and was not in the mood to have any since I had it twice this week already...Being one of the vendors at an event, I was able to try a veggie slice and it was actually really good. Thin, fresh, hot, and just the right amount of toppings. I prefer to have some kind of protein on my pizzas, but this tasted fine without any. The tomato sauce was tangy and the crust was chewy, yet crunchy. The staff was also wonderful and friendly. They let me take close ups of the pizza going in their mobile wood oven. :) I'll need to try their storefront when I'm in North County. read more

I love Neapolitan pizza, and Red Oven makes an some great tasting ones. The crust is nice and chewy, sauce is just a simple spread of san marzano, and very high quality toppings. I opted for the margherita with prosciutto and it was fantastic. The pizza takes on a nice wood fired smokey fragrance and the mozzarella was great. I would have liked a bit of olive oil to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes but, that would be me only "complaint". Definitely get the larger size because the small is tiny for $6. read more

My husband and I usually visit Red Oven at the Solana Beach Farmers market on Sundays. This is hands down the best pizza that I have ever eaten in my life. Justin (the pizza master) has perfected the most delicious gluten free crust. There is nothing like it in this world. My mouth is watering as I type this review which means I will definitely be visiting Red Oven soon. Red Oven Pizza showed up late to my event, leaving me in a panic -- and guests hungry -- on a very important night for my husband and me. More importantly, I paid for food I did not receive. I ordered two salads and only received one. I ordered several desserts and they were not provided. The cheese board cost $720 and was out for less than an hour before the entire thing was whisked away (a cheese board, particularly at that price point, should be out all night for guests to snack on). Red Oven has a complicated and confusing system for ordering food -- and now in retrospect it appears to be by design. In short, Red Oven came to the event late, did not serve the food I ordered, and when we sought to have a discussion about it, Red Oven refused to make any accommodations. Extremely frustrating and upsetting. (I note that Red Oven appears to be adept at having reviews removed from Yelp, which is a concerning sign in and of itself. Proceed with caution!) read more

My office building has been doing some serious construction on our parking structure. To help mitigate the craziness, they've arranged various food trucks to come by each day at lunch. Over the past couple of months I've sampled my fair of them and am pumped to say that Red Oven has been one of my very favorites! Today they had 6 different pizzas on their menu and after a lot of debating, I went for the Parma - Salami Fior di Latte, Prosciutto, and Arugula. And let me tell you, I was so happy with my choice. The crust takes on the traditional Neapolitan consistency - thin, slightly chewy, crisp from the wood fire....delish. The Salami & Prosciutto added that wonderful salty, cured meaty flavor with the peppery arugula leaves. I also snagged a slice of the Margherita from a co-worker and it was lovely as well. And how cute was the brick oven that they rolled up in? After a brief chat with one of their guys, we found that they use Black Oak logs from Ramona in their ovens - no gas. The wood imparted a great, earthy flavor to the pizza. I definitely look forward to trying out their other pizzas! read more

Their pizza is amazing *Catering Warning* Be careful trying to book these guys for catering... they originally gave us an estimate of $2000 over the phone for an event. They sent us the quote and it was $2400 for 150 people (which is fine, no big deal). My wife explained that we would have 200 people at our event and asked for an update. They sent out an update and quoted us over $4800 when we just added 50 more people (more than double). We simply asked why it went up so drastically in price and all of a sudden they told us they were no longer available minutes later! They never even answered our simple question! The team at Red Oven helped me plan the most fun 40th birthday party ever!!! Justin, Janice, Ezster, and the whole team are accommodating, kind, lovely, super helpful and responsive, and, most importantly, they make the most kick ass pizza I've ever had! When Ezster arrived to set up for the party this past Saturday evening, I was still not dressed and still running around like a crazy person trying to finish decorating. She said, "don't worry - I've got this!" And she did! She set up everything perfectly. She was so calm and capable, and her calm leadership set the tone for the whole night. Stress-free! Their bread is chewy, fluffy and crunchy. Hard to get anywhere. Beats Prager any time. They accept donations, but no one can survive on donations. Super disappointing. Came across this mobile pizza company for an event I'm having in August, booked it, paid the deposit but never received a confirmation. When I questioned why I hadn't received confirmation, I was told that there was a minimum that needed to be met (which I was not told initially) and they couldn't guarantee my booking if a bigger event came along. That in its own, is disappointing service. I'm in the party planning business and I've never come across a vendor who actually verbalized that. Nonetheless, I agreed to pay the minimum requested, still no response and then eventually last night I received a message saying 'sorry, we can no longer make your event, due to scheduling conflict, we'll refund you' It's definitely not my loss, there are so many other options out there who appreciate and want the business. I'm an event planner with so many upcoming events that I'm planning and my clients are always looking for good vendors. We now know this will not be one to recommend. The only reason for this negative review, because clearly we didn't get to taste the pizza, is, I don't want someone else to make the mistake by booking them, not realizing that they didn't receive a confirmation and then be disappointed when they don't show up because something better came along which seems to be the case with all the negative reviews on here. Nothing worse than thinking you have your caterer lined up to find out on the day (when it's too late) that they are now showing up. Going to the Red Oven pizza stand at the farmers market in Solana Beach is generally a mission (due to limited parking or the small window of hours), but so worth it! Sometimes I'm craving their red sauce, other times I crave the texture of the gluten-free crust or the fire-roasted taste of the crust. The pizzas all have a thick crust, and the slices are delicate. Pizza was very delicious, we wanted to hire a company to cater our friends Celebration of Life party for 125 people and do something a little different. After being quoted $22 per person for all you can eat pizza with a salad option, I wanted to confirm since I felt this price point seemed a bit high. This is what I was given as a response. The fact is $18pp for unlimited pizza or $15 per pizza- what menu items added beyond this is up to our customers. We run a very different operation compared to a food truck. Our pricing should be compared to our VALUE, not to a hamburger, bbq, or or taco truck. For obvious reasons Mozzarella di bufala runs about $20 per pound, prosciutto di Parma $22per pound, compare to $2 for hamburger or BBQ meat. I trained to make pizza in Naples not the local eatery. If in your eyes, there is not enough value to have our imported oven fired at 900+ degrees baking pizzas in 60 seconds right before your eyes with cheese so fresh i pick it up from the airport weekly then our service is not right for you - there are 96 other trucks and a good 8 other wood ovens ranked lower than Red Oven in San Diego who will likely have lower pricing and a different level of service. I did not personally talk at to you at Thorn St. so I currently do not know the timing or the purpose of your party - it is difficult to present to you without proper knowledge of what the desired experience would be. All I can say is wow! I've never had a gluten free pizza that is this PHENOMENAL!!! The moment I took my first bite of pizza I hesitated because I figured they screwed up and gave me the wrong pizza. But no. This is the GREATEST GLUTEN FREE PIZZA EVER! I live in Dallas, but travel a lot and I'm always scouting out great gluten free food. I am one of the pickiest eaters out there. When I find something I love I want it all the time. This pizza is absolutely the best I have ever had. I am little and can eat 2 margheritta pizzas all by myself:)... I love how I synced my phone to their calendar so I can find them weekly. Tried Red Oven at the Sony location 30 minutes before closing. It looked like they were packing up though, so we asked if they were still serving pizzas. They said, "Only if you'll order some. What kind?" I say that I wasn't sure since it's my first time. One of them shout to the other, "First timers! Sure we'll make you some". So I got down and ordered a personalized pizza with pepperoni and mushroom for the boyfriend while I tried to order something for myself. I was really lost without a menu to refer to (they took the menu down for packing). She asked me what type of pizza I liked, veggie or meat based. I said meat, and she suggested the pizza PARMA- Neapolitan pizza dough, San Marzano sauce, arugula, salumi, proscuitto di PARMA, fior di latte. The pizza is best eaten right away, the pizza man said. And he was right. The pizza sat lightly in my stomach, so be sure to order at least 1 pizza for yourself. The pizza crust had a nice char to it. It was also paper thin, crisp, and slightly chewy. I can't believe how thin the pizza man creates the crust without it tearing! The crust is so good that I would LOVE to just eat a bread loaf made from this dough! The toppings were abundant, fresh, and of high quality. Oh, and they also threw in a free block of tiramisu! I'm not much of a tiramisu fan, so I thought it was ok, while the boyfriend thought that it was an amazing one. For my 2nd visit, I ordered a pizza ZUCCA: Neapolitan pizza dough, creme fraiche, roasted butternut squash, sausage, fior di latte, Parmigiano Reggiano, fresh parsley It was equally awesome as the ones that I've ordered. You can really tell how they have a passion for pizza. Neapolitan one at that. Love their pizza! Especially the diavola. That spicy calabrese salami they have on there is so good. I love that the crust on this pizza is thin. I first had them at the Solana Beach Farmer's Market. They also made a yummy hot chocolate during the garden of lights. The people who work here are cool. Yes the pizza is somewhat pricey, it's worth it though. I guess I should try the calzones as well.
