Finally a top Indian restaurant in our region! It oddly tasted a lot like my fav back in RVA. We got the Samosa which was very good. The Garlic Naan is necessary and good as expected coated in butter and fresh garlic. We also got the Rogan Josh Lamb and Chicken Tikka Masala and both were fantastic and full of fresh spice and onions. The basmati rice they served along with it was perfectly cooked as well. We asked for "medium hot" which was a tad above Tabasco sauce hot, so perfect to us--could've done hotter. Service was great too--we are only upset we had not tried this earlier as they had been here for a few yrs. It's only a few min from the Hard Rock casino too which would make a fun night out. Wow! We are vegetarians traveling and saw their billboard on the highway. We had the cashew curry on their recommendation and it was DECADENT. The naan was a perfect complement to it and one was ample for two people. I'd order two curries for two people if you wanted lots of leftovers. delicious. read more

We came in for the first time and loved it! I apologize for only getting one pic but the food was great. We got the Dinner For Two, which includes appetizer, two entrees, garlic naan bread, and dessert. The appetizer was super delicious; I am not an Indian Food connoisseur so I apologize in advance. The breaded appetizer was delicious: it was a bit spicy but really good. The other items were chicken tandoori while the rest was shrimp and chicken of another style. Our entrees was a mango entree and another (also red) entree; both were delicious. I like the spicier flavors but my wife likes milder flavors. They brought me a small amount of a spicy sauce that I loved and put it on everything. We also had rice and I ate my fill. We had enough to bring back a lite lunch for the next day. Dessert was a rice pudding and I enjoyed it. It was not very busy (on a Thursday night) with one other couple who dined in and a take-out order or two. It was quiet inside and we were served well. The manager told us of other places they, also, owned. We really enjoyed our dinner and would like to return one day. I have no complaints; one of the better restaurants I have been too. read more

I spend a lot more time eating in Asheville than I do up here, but you can find good Indian food anywhere. This place was nicer and cleaner inside than I would have guessed, and I was greeted with the sight of someone dropping off some Indian currency to be displayed on the wall for some reason, underneath an outline of Tennessee and Virginia and an American flag, among other memorabilia. The specificity of people's attachment to place and the passion of immigrants always amazes me as I travel through the more rural parts of the U.S. So does the food. They started me off with papadum (a lentil-based cracker); used to be every Mexican restaurant offered chips for free but this is becoming less common, whereas I see the papadum more often in Indian places. My aloo tikki chaat was fresh and delicious. The test with these things is that they usually come with two fried potato patties, so if I'm eating them myself, the question is whether I can restrain myself and just eat the one before my entree arrives. No, in this case. My entree was a delightful bhindi masala, a spiced okra with onion and tomatoes that illustrates how global the cuisine of India is. Their version is cooked in butter and is quite heavy, and the spice level I asked for delivered a consistent, moderate burn. The rice had several different whole spices mixed in and a fantastic light fluffiness. I left with little doubt that the rest of their large menu full of options for just about any diet is just as good. read more

This is without a doubt the friendliest restaurant in the area and the lunch buffet is absolutely amazing. If you are not sure what type of Indian food you like, I highly recommend trying the buffet. There is something for everyone on it and it is delicious! We went for the Lunch Buffet and my first experience eating Indian food. They made our experience memorable with great service and better food. First the lentil soup was amazing pretty spicy for me but nothing too overwhelming, then the butter chicken was good I liked it better than the tikki masala, but my favorite was the chicken vindaloo with rice again perfect spice and different than anything I tried before. Most everything else was good too the stir fry gets a honorable mention for being great it just had sit for a little while but worth trying anyway. Loved the lunch buffet, which is available every day except Monday (because they are closed in Mondays). The buffet included an appropriate variety of entree styles and flavors, none overly hot, as well as naan, a soup, three salads, two desserts and many sauces including a mint and chutney that I especially enjoyed. Oh my goodness. I can't believe I haven't reviewed them yet. I've been for both lunch buffet and dinner and really enjoy everything I have tried. The food on the buffet tastes lighter and healthier than most Indian buffets i've been to. Plenty of salad options and even a soup of the day. I also like that the buffet has chef's specials which are off-menu items so they truly are specials. They also rotate the special of the day between meat and veggie options rather than always having just chili chicken like I usually see. Because they include non-menu items on the buffetI have been able to expand my Indian palate and taste some of the wonderful offerings that are rarely seen on this side of the world. Great lunch buffet! It's really difficult to screw up an Indian lunch buffet and Red Pepper does it well. Food is fresh, tasty and very good. Only critique would be the layout. While I understand it, many may not. Dinner takeout is very good. I had the chicken Vindaloo, Indian level hot. Wife had the Aloo Matar. The vindaloo had a nice flavor. The sauce is a little thinner than I'm used to, but still a nice flavor. I was hoping for really, really hot level of heat, but I understand that they don't want to make it inedible hot, but double the heat and it will be Indian Hot for me. Wife's Aloo was medium and a bit on the lack of sauce for her. She said it was a good flavor, peas were perfect and potato was properly tender but not mushy The amount of chicken is perfect for most people, but it was a a little small for me. That is the biggest criticism I can think of. If you're going to the casino and want to eat out, heat here. If you're passing through and want lunch, eat here. Best Indian food within 100 miles. I've had Indian all over the country and this ranks among the best I've had for flavor. We had the tikka masala and saag paneer and both were excellent. I've had a favorite Indian place that hasn't ever been topped for 15 years now, but it is back where I used to live, in Lakewood, OH. I've had lots of other Indian food (both Northern and Southern style), from all over the US, but India Garden in Lakewood has always remained on top. Red Pepper is a contender now though. It is right on up there at the top with it I think, and might get beyond there once we've tried a few more dishes. Just chef's-kiss level perfect papadum, butter chicken, lamb kabab, bhindi masala, samosas, and naan (rosemary naan, droooool). Stuck with some of the more popular-in-the-US staples (except I always have to have the bhindi masala if it's on a menu because okra is amazing) just to feel them out really, so now we have go back and do a deeper menu dive. Asked for everything at the hot level - though we declined the Indian hot option when it was offered because at India Garden that just about killed me one time (their Achaar was murderous I tell ya) - and if I had any gripe at all (and this is not _really_ a gripe) it wasn't quite as hot as I'd have liked it. It was up there, but more like a medium compared to what I'm used to I think. So I know to ask for somewhere between hot and Indian hot next time, if they can do that. And I can't wait to try more - we were told the paneer dishes were spectacular, so that's next up. read more

Tried the lunch buffet. First time trying Indian food. Was disappointed by the lack of options on the buffet. Tried a little bit of everything what little there was. It all tasted about the same. Devore was very nice. We were seated and water was poured for us. We just sat there confused for a while. We weren't asked if we wanted something other than water to drink or if we wanted to order from menu or eat from the buffet. After sitting there for a bit we got up and went to the buffet bars There were 3 chicken options a vegetarian cabbage and several sauces.
