Dull ambience. Horrible taste... lots of masalas in veg biryani. Also we mentioned no oil in the roti and the server said yeah yeah absolutely no oil but the roti came with shinning oil/butter/ghee and on top of that our bad luck next to our table thr was one big family sitting and chatting so loud. This is by far some of the best Indian food I've ever had! The reason I'm not giving 5 starts is because of the managers of this restaurant. They are probably the rudest and most unprofessional restaurant owners I've ever met. I strongly recommend bringing cash with you because they will give you an extremely hard time about paying with a card! Also, the minimum for delivery is $30 which is kind of astronomical. All that being said, I do keep coming back to this place even despite all the attitude because the food really is that good! Make no mistake, when the servers tell you something is spicy...Believe me, they are telling the truth. Red Pepper has a great menu, with lots of ecxellent choices. Even my picky daughter can find something she likes on this menu. The Lamb dishes are all very good, and made with top quality meats. Service was okay but the owner who took my payment insisted that my friend and I pay with one card when we requested separate bills. I explained that we had to pay separately and he had an attitude. In the same location of the now defunct Spice Grill, this restaurant is better than the Spice Grill and Veena's. Very tasty with excellent service. There is unfortunately no mixed Tandoori grill as an appetizer, but they will make you one if you ask! It is BYOB and a real find! read more

Travel the extra distance to kenilworth (star of India) or Maplewood (tandoori chef) both restaurants are far better. Three of our dishes looked the same with over thickened bright yellow sauce and quite honestly tasted the same. We really could not tell a difference between them. We order take-out from Red Pepper regularly and have been for several years. Its right around the corner from my house but they offer quick delivery as well. Every time I've been in the restaurant, its looked pretty empty but judging by reviews, its very popular! I've never tried the lunch buffet-supposed to be a great deal- but the food is really great! In fact, keeps getting better! I was raised on Indian food and I've tried different places all over the East coast; Red Pepper is still my favorite. We always order chicken tikka masala (often twice as much as we really should because the sauce is awesome for dipping naan into), mattar paneer, lamb roganjosh, yellow daal tarka, aloo gobhi masala, papad, tons of garlic naan and poori, and kheer. Sometimes samosas too! Really addictive, really fresh, spicy and comforting food. Price is good too- can easily feed 3-4 people on what we normally order for about $60. They'll adjust the level of spiciness upon request and some dishes can be "creamy or not creamy". My only complaint is that they are no longer open on Mondays, which is when I'm usually in the mood for Indian but otherwise I highly recommend Red Pepper because its authentic, affordable, convenient and servers have always been friendly and accommodating. read more

Red pepper is decent. I usually go for dinner so can't really speak for the buffet. I always take leftovers home but they never give me enough rice for the amount of sauce I have. The mango lassi is good but it's usually served warm with just a couple of ice cubes - I wish it was colder. read more

My boyfriend had never had Indian food and I only had limited exposure so neither of us knew what to eat beyond the Naan. Luckily Red Pepper's menu was fairly informative and made it easy to experiment. Overall we really enjoyed the food and will definitely order from there again. We decided to try a variety of dishes and flavors so as to optimize our delivery experience. Below are the specifics if you want to know what we thought. We ordered for appetizers the Meat Samosa, Hari Mirchi Bhajia (stuffed chilis), and Dahibhalia Papdi Chaat (lentil croquettes). The samosa and croquettes were awesome. The croquettes came in a lightly sweetened cream sauce with 'crackers' and some additional toppings. I would recommend this to anyone who is unsure if they would enjoy Indian food. The stuffed chilis were okay, nothing to write Yelp about, wouldn't order again. Next we ordered 2 types of naan - traditional which is always delicious and the Aloo which was stuffed with yellow curry potatoes, also delicious. A great first time experience with the Aloo Naan. For entrees, we orded Chicken Tikka, Lamb Biryani with Basmati Rice, and Chicken Kabab Masala. All three were excellent. We especially liked the Biryani and the Masala. None of them were spicy and they all tasted different. The masala had a slight sweetness to it. All three of these were a great gateway to trying Indian food. Lastly, for dessert we ordered Mango Lassi (drink) and Kheer (rice pudding). The kheer is what you would expect it to be - sweet enough to be a dessert but not overbearingly sugary - I would order it again. The lassi is a smoothie without the ice chunks - it's good but too sweet for my tastes. Neither of us are sure we would get the Lassi again as we would prefer it with alcohol and frozen to offset the sweetness. Again, Red Pepper was an excellent choice for people new to Indian food and would recommend it. read more

Very frustrating experience. We specifically drove here after a movie for a late dinner over an hour before they close only to find out they were "closed." Got here at 9:50 pm. Both the restaurant's website and Yelp state the place is open until 11 pm on Sunday. When I walked in the staff said, "Nope, that website is old." No apologies. Disappointing. We had the chicken korma, chicken Danske, and chicken tikka masala. We had ordered the korma to be medium, however when it arrived it was exactly the same as the danske: boring and unflavorful. I found the tikki masala to be the best as it had some taste. This does not even come close in my book to my two favorite Indian restaurants Star of India (kenilworth) and tandoori chef 2 (maplewood). We order almost weekly take out from here for past few years. Let me start by saying we are Indian by birth but were born here, so we know good Indian food and are very picky. We get the same stuff weekly, okra, yellow daal, and chicken curry only one order of rice because we just don't eat that much rice. It's not oily at all! So delicious and we never finish the food we have enough for almost another meal. They deliver to springfield, and they said they deliver to short hills. I LOVE Indian food, and I have come here numerous times. However, I have learned something my visits here, "That food is not everything in the restaurant business." I come here by myself for their lunch buffet because none of my co-workers like Indian Food. When I come in my singleness is met as if it is an inconvenience. Then when I go to pay with my card, they yell at me and tell me, "CASH, CASH, no CARD." But I am well within my rights to pay for a meal that is over $10 on a card. The food is really good on the other hand. They have all the things that a beginner in Indian food would want in a buffet and always something else that helps to move forward you pallet. I know it doesn't look like much from the outside. One day me and my dad were in the area and decided to try it out. We were stunned at how good the food is. Hands down the best Indian we have had. I don't get the buffet but I agree with what others have said, you gotta have fresh naan, but I think that when you get a buffet you kind of give up your right to hot, fresh, naan bread.
