I've been coming to Red River BBQ for years, so believe me when I say this with love... what in the children's-menu nonsense is going on with these baked potatoes? I ordered a chopped beef brisket spud -- same thing I've ordered a hundred times -- and what arrived on my plate was a potato roughly the size of one and a half ATM cards. Sir, I am a grown man. I should not need a microscope to locate my dinner. If I'm paying $14-$15, the potato should at least be the size of my hand... not something that escaped the kids' meal tray. Did I not look hungry? Did I offend someone? Do I need to submit a formal request for an adult portion? If so, please forward the paperwork -- and the rest of the potato you still owe me. And listen, I get it: smaller potatoes mean less brisket needed to "cover" the top. Smart business move... not a great customer move. This is the second or third time I've received the toddler spud, so either y'all accidentally ordered a pallet of fun-size potatoes, or someone back there is trolling me specifically. Food Quality Update (Not the Good Kind) The brisket used to have excellent flavor. Today? Rubber band vibes. Bland. Chewy. The kind of meat that makes you question your life choices. This is our go to neighborhood barbecue restaurant. The food is always flavorful and there is a great variety plus daily specials. Some favorites include brisket baked potatoes, ribs (always tender with a great flavor), sausage and even a great grilled chicken breast with sautéed onions and mushrooms. You walk up to a counter and order.....just like all other BBQ places...the difference here is they come by your table and check on you....more than once....nice! My wife enjoyed a plain loaded baked tater, she's on a baked tater kick. I enjoyed a three meat plate with two sides. The moist end sliced brisket was really tender and tasty, the pork ribs were just as good and the jalapeno cheese sausage was very good. The pinto beans and and a half ear of corn hit the ever widening spot. We enjoyed a couple fountain drinks. The person that waited on us asked if we wanted a senior discount.....yes please! My late husband's favorite place to eat. I ordered yesterday through the window. 1/2 lb of ribs a brisket child's plate and cobbler. The Bill was not cheap but I get home and no bbq sauce and the brisket was just a corner piece of hard bark no moist meat like I ordered. Could not eat the plate!! I was very disappointed because we have gone and eaten inside the restaurant and the plates and service are good but not on takeout. Not happy especially since all my grown children like to go there. I couldn't chew it.. I had to keep spitting the meat out into the napkins. Not sure what's going on with their beef sourcing, because this also happened with a hamburger where I couldn't chew the meat and I had to keep spitting it into a napkin. The macaroni was flavorless and dry. And somehow, while the french fries were soggy with grease with no crunch, they were also simultaneously flavorless and wet. The people were nice. It was clean and the TVs were cool, but I really don't know what to say about how bad the food was other than I won't be going back. I've been coming here since It opened and then stopped due to the food and service. Well I tried this again last week and the changes they made were fabulous. The food has changed and the menu has been updated. They really did a great job! We had ribs and a baked potato and it was fresh with great customer service. Now my only issue was I ordered a Lunch special potato with turkey instead of brisket and they charged me 2$. Now I personally think that's not right because it's 1 meat change with another meat. It couldn't have cost them any difference to change. Now the food came quickly and fresh. The customer service was top notch. We were checked on many times and offered whatever we needed. The salad bar is gone, and while I didn't go for the salads, my wife would agree to go and eat from the salad bar, and eat her stuffed shrimp appetizer that they also did away with. They changed the menu and did away with the steaks and the daily specials and gave us burgers instead. I loved their Friday night steak special. Now the only special is Saturday for all you can eat ribs. Been back a couple of times for that, and last time I couldn't even get the staff's attention to get a 2nd round of ribs... My company recently had RRBBQ cater an event. They were timely in showing up and getting set up. They did not deliver (cole slaw) which was paid for. We had ordered beans, coleslaw, bread, brisket , sausage, chicken. Also the sides like onions, jalapenos and pickles. The brisket was absolutely like eating leather or rubber. The chicken was ok but the portions were tiny. A chicken leg was is supposed to be around 5 to 6 inches. The provided chicken wing style size legs (3 inches or shorter). The thighs and breast were cut in 3in or smaller size. Overall this place missed the mark with portion size and quality of their number 1 meat - brisket - I would never recommend this place to anyone that wants - at a minimum - decent BBQ - this place doesnt even meet that mark. Horrible. If I would have paid for this I would asked for a complete refund. My company got robbed. I only gave a one star because you can't go lower. read more

The ribs are freshly cooked, are nicely seasoned with a slightly sweet and peppery taste. They are well smoked and are very tender. The sides are also pretty good. The waitress got our order wrong, which is fine, shit happens. But when we tried to correct it we were brought the wrong item again. I went up to the counter to reorder the same item (had to pay for an extra meal just to get the sandwich we wanted), and the group of young women behind the cash register gave me a dirty look. It's not going to leave you being still hungry. They do send pickles, Onions, and BBQ sauce with your meal. That's always a plus. I had the ribs, brisket, and jalapeño cheddar sausage. Ribs were tasty and fell off the bone. Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage was a little dry but tasty. I order the Brisket lean by mistake, which probably explains the lack of bark on it. Even though the smell was amazing as we drove up, and the amount of food served was pretty great, that's where it ended. My wife's gumbo was very spicy but it didn't have much taste at all. I try and stay away from brisket from most places because sadly, many businesses actually dry it out most of the time, but had to give them a chance this time. I crave their Chopped Beef loaded baked potato! Their Ribs are delicious, and they even have a weekly AYCE Rib special. They have a fresh salad bar available as an addition to your meal. There is a good assortment for f homemade sides to select from for your entrées. The Creamed Corn, and Fried Okra are my favorites -- though I find Mom's Potato Salad a bit too oniony. On my most recent visit, I tried the Wednesday Special...a plate full of 12 large breaded fried shrimp with two sides. I definitely didn't need the salad! I barely could finish my meal. I was taken aback by how spicy the hush puppies were. I wasn't expecting that. But there seems to be chunks of jalapeño in the batter. (Normally when I order a BBQ dish, hush puppies aren't on the plate.) If you're dining with friends, you can customize a bucket of ice cold beers. read more

Since the remodeling, many things have changed. Gone are the nice little salad bar and its ice cold offerings. Also removed from the menu are the fried mushrooms , fresh baked cornbread muffins and steak offerings. While the remodeling did freshen up the interior, this once favored eatery has gotten aggressively expensive. For example the bbq rib special on Saturday's now cost almost $30 with a drink. I realize food costs are a major contributing factor, but it wasn't that long ago this same meal was just $15. Also they apparently don't like criticism posted on their Facebook page unless it's a positive review as my honest post was removed the same day I made the posting. Traveling from Cypress, and given the fact that many of the things I loved about this place have been removed I will no longer eat here. My family has been a long time customer but we won't be returning, sad as it is. read more
