This is an average bar to get a few drinks at before moving on to something more enjoyable. Waitstaff have ranged from good to obviously unhappy with having to deal with customers. Good food, nice service. The only thing that stops me from going more often is the nightmare of water st. parking.

The old Sullivan's... I actually kinda like how they redid this place. They close half of it off during the week for happy hour and food. The menu's delicious and they have good beer on tap. The Whiskey Club is pretty tight for people who really like whiskey or who frequent a bar serving good whiskey. I'm not a huge fan of the country music, but you can get past it... especially if there's a good game on TV. They also do shuttles to MU games, which is really nice! One of my only issues with this place is that the service is just a tad bit too lax for my taste. I've been there a few times where I felt like I wasn't sure if we should seat ourselves or as we were being seated we were burdening the host by having her seat us. The wait staff is nice but a little too casual. We felt awkward and felt like we needed to call the waitress over because they weren't exactly that keen on checking on us... or we figured if we did ask for something they'd really be more grateful if we didn't. Having been here a number of times it's safe to say it's time to write a review. First why is this not a one star review? The brisket wasn't that bad. It was good but really not worth the price. So halfway decent brisket is seen as the positive in an otherwise semi frustrating and laughable experience. Keep in mind that this is on Water Street and parking can and may be an issue. We've been here at various times with the exception of late night. I came for the food. Service has been either terrible or mediocre. Mediocre because the girl that was a bit hungover for life managed to be somewhat amusing to me and my dining partner. In another instance it was terrible with complete inattentiveness with a waitress that seemed like she was coming down from something and couldn't focus or make eye contact. This resulted in a mistake with our order and leaving us with the bill for an usually long time before checking in on us. That type of behavior isn't limited to my experiences as I have heard from people that they were left with a check for almost an hour. At what point are we trapped at our tables? It shouldn't be the job of the customer to hunt someone down to pay them. The food isn't bad. Hushpuppys with Jalapeno jelly is a good start but most of the sandwich choices come up lacking and or are inconsistent in delivery. There are other times when an item is fresh out. Somehow Pulled Pork wasn't available at about 1-2pm. That did seem odd. The prices are moderate to moderately high for what you are getting but I am sure they are paying top dollar for the exceptional staff. Seriously take some pride in what you do. With the number of people clamoring for jobs out there it shouldn't be too hard to find someone that could do the bare minimum of writing my order on a piece of paper, being friendly and bringing me my bill in a timely fashion all while pretending to care. It shouldn't be hard. Are our standards getting lower in society? If you can't make it to work without looking like a disheveled mess perhaps think of having someone cover your shift or perhaps just don't come in until your faculties are there. Saturday afternoons seemed to be plagued with half-hearted zombies struggling to function. When you're food isn't anything to write home about the service can make or break the experience. Great service will make me not hesitate to come back while poor service sticks in my mind and almost begs to be talked about to my peers. I am left wondering if this is a management issue. Poor hiring choices, poor training and poor standards are more reflective of the management running the show then those who they hire. After all if your boss has low standards you will too by default. It really shows in the attitude, lack of any enthusiasm, any personable skills. It's just people getting paid to be there. I've been here a bunch of times since writing my first review, and I have the feeling that the food had been going down hill. Yesterday I got the following: 8 wings of two different flavors: totonka and longhorn. The problem with the wings are that they simply weren't as good as they have been in the past. There wasn't as much char, one of the pieces was small and weird looking, and some of the chicken was a little drier than they usually are. The sauces were good and there was good smoky flavor, but the quality has slipped a bit. Next I god the El Paso burger with a side of cowboy beans. From the burger I tasted to main flavors: meat juice and bacon. The bacon was good, but the burger leaked meat juice into the bun almost soaking it through. I was expecting big flavors, and was let down with a sub par burger. The cheese and Outlaw sauce was almost nowhere to be found. Finally, the beans have gone down hill also. They were decent, but not as good as they have been, and not nearly as good as when I first had them. It's a fun place at night, but I hope they can get the food back up to where it has been. This place reminds me of the Saddle Ranch in LA. We just came in for drinks, to escape the rain and well just to check it out. Nice place and they have a mechanical bull. I will conquer that one on my return trip and after a few more cocktails. The bar was full so we sat at a table. The downfall to visit here, was after saying we were just here for drinks our server kept pushing food. The food looked good and smelled good but we just ate down the street and was just making our way back to the car. We were looking forward to the $1 burgers on Wednesdays but when we asked for a burger to be cooked well done they would not do it. Went to Bombers a few doors down and they were happy to accommodate making a burger well done. There were very few people in the Red Rock when we were there. Disappointed. Dined here on a late Sat afternoon before BB game as the burger joint we wanted to hit next door was packed. Nice "Texas" decor- good view of TVs. I had a fried chix sandwich "colonel" w/ fries wife had a ElPaso burger w/ mac/cheese. Both sandwiches were large and excellent. Both sides were OK. It's a bit pricey- $32 for 2 sandwiches, 2 diet cokes and a tap beer. Service was not good. Wasn't crowded when we arrived. Waitress slow to take order and conversed at length w another table while we sat. 10 more minutes to get a beer while 3 other bartenders chatted behind the bar. Food didn't come quickly as waitress advised they made the chix sandwich incorrectly. Started to get busier as we were finishing, waitress had no help from anyone, it was tough to get the check. Bottom line- Food was very good, service was borderline terrible, and we aren't high maintenance diners. Awesome sauce selection for the wings, try the Gypsy wings! The server let us know they are known for their wings and have won several awards for them. Our group also enjoyed the cheeseburger and the smoked brisket. The bartenders were fun and friendly pouring plenty of Jack Daniels. Stayed after dinner on a Friday for live music. This place has both country and western happening, though they claim to have Rock but maybe they are counting the name. Regardless, I tell you, yes, both country and western items are here - and, apparently, rock, but let's not split hares. You get it all here - premium whiskeys, featuring an option to buy a bottle from a keg selected by the owners on their most recent trip to Lynchburg, and a mechanical bull. See, country and western - no lie. Meanwhile, there was, again, both country and western music that got played on the music service while I was there. By "service" I mean it was over the PA - not a live band. Being more of a bluegrass kind of guy, I turned my attention to the chopped, not shredded, coleslaw that was served as a side with my BBQ platter. I ordered the platter that comes with a choice of three (3) meats and three (3) sides. Now, this slaw was chopped like my grandma used to make. She lived in the country, in the East, so this would likely be considered Country Coleslaw - not Western coleslaw. Maybe Western slaw is shredded, which is okay, but I do not like minced slaw. Minced slaw is disgusting. You can go ahead and give that to someone else. For my other two (2) side dishes I got the fried onion strings. These are onion "strings" which is kind of like a disclaimer that though some may be configured in a ring-like persuasion, most are of an indiscriminate geometric orientation upon delivery. Like chaos theory and string theory got it on the in hot grease of the deep fryer. I can see you are getting excited so settle down for the old-style math. Now you may have originally noticed, but recently forgotten, I ordered the 3/3 platter, and got slaw and onion strings, which you might think adds up to two (2), which it does, but I got two (2) orders of the onion strings, which got extra jiggly in the fryer, so that makes three (3). Yes, this is another case of the hole being greater than some of the parts - as they say in Tallahasee, with a bit of a whistle, seeing as they do not have all their original parts teeth. Shall we move along briskly to the main course? Step this way and mind the cow pies. Have accounted, heretofore, on this review about the side dishes, it is my pleasure to inform you I had, as you may have guessed, three (3) portions of BBQ-type meats which were, in no particular order - sliced brisket, pulled pork and pulled chicken. They were all good, and particularly the pulled chicken that had a bunch of inquisitive herbs and spices. Regardless, I made the whole steaming pile kind of indistinguishable by slathering the pile with each of the three (3) bottled BBQ sauces there on the table. There was science happening at first, but I was really hungry and just shoveled the whole hot mess into my face kind of fast when the vinegar and sugars overwhelmed my tastbuds and put any sense of Country, Western, Rock, BBQ saloon decorum out to pasture. I've only gone here for the bar scene and must say it is one of my favorites in Milwaukee. There is plenty of people to meet and they typically have great live bands. I look down and it's a chip of glass missing from my cup but it's not a big deal it was small plus sh*t I'm in a barn looking place so i go with the flow and we ordered 2 burgers and a bowl of chilli aka a bowl of meat and fat and grease burger just ok I can get that small amount of BBQ flavor from burger King ask for raw onions and they gave us 2 or 3 rings plus one was the out side ring that you can't chew so I was pulling it out as I ate the burger. Interesting place... The food was good the waitress was a jerk and kept trying to get us to leave despite ordering meals and beers. She lied and said her shift was ending to get us to pay and leave. We wanted to stay for the band and kept getting pushed to leave. We were not roudy or causing problems and were ordering drinks. I felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome. It was a table for two and no reason to push us out. There was a band they played like 30 minutes only then turned up the music from the DJ and was so loud you couldnt think. There is no dance floor and kind of a dive... the food was pretty good I had the Farm burger which is the same burger they serve for the contest without the ghost wings. I was good but didnt really like the spice on the chicken breast part. My wife had the William Munny and said it was pretty good but had too much bbq sauce to taste the brisket. So we were here for the game of course and it was a good amount of people. It wasn't packed or anything. My friend ordered his drink and then the waitress with the bad attitude actually didn't come back to the table to the point we had to go up to the bar after 15 minutes and get our drinks. We had our drinks and it was all you can drink for $12. We did that and the mean waitress said everything was included. She was wrong and we ended up paying $14 for small little rail drinks which should be only $5. We didn't care, trying to avoid confrontation. Went here via Groupon with my daughter. A medium size restaurant seating area, in what is mostly a large college bar by the looks of it. The floors were still sticky from the previous nights business, and the place smelled somewhat of cleaning fluid and stale beer. Not exactly appetizing. I have to share a recent horror story. I was here recently (Valentines weekend) and I brought the girl I was dating from out of country. We stayed at the Pfister and ate dinner ate Carnevore. Came here for some good whole "country" fun. Two hours into it, my girl was in the bathroom. I let her be for 30 minutes and grew concerned. I asked women & security repeatedly to check on her. Security shrugged me off. Women said there was another woman in the stall with her. Waited another 30 minutes, along which the woman's hisband came along and was attempting to convince my girl was drunk and his wife was taking care of her. I refused and at one point attempted to gain entry (with permission of the only woman inside) and rescue my girl. I managed to lock hands with her and attempted to lead her out of the bar. I was accosted by the woman and man. They began to act crazy, and right before I had my girl to safety I was accosted & choked out by security. She was only 21 & drunk. They led her out into the arms of 2 sexual predators. She would later text me begging for help, asking me to get her. And she was sexually assaulted by these low life's that night while she was too drunk to say no. read more

It's a typical water street bar. It's not too bad early in the night, but late it's loud and packed. The service goes down hill as the night goes on. The drink prices can change in a second. My fiancé and I just came her this last Saturday (3/21/15) for dinner (no drinks). I must say that the service was great! The waitress must have checked on us about 5 times after bringing our food. This is much better than not being able to find the waitress after getting our food. Also, the ribs and Cowboy Beans were amazing. They have three BBQ sauces, in bottles, at the tables. On 12/1/18 my friends and I went to Red Rock on a Saturday night. My friend was denied entrance into the establishment solely because her ID was from Iowa. Although being a college student, her ID was valid and she had been allowed in the establishment many times before that night. The bouncer OBVIOUSLY did not know how to understand a real ID from a fake one, (because a lot of under-agers were let into Red Rock before us) so this was a true disappointment for this night. My friends and i were upset and truly appalled by the utter lack of intelligent bouncers at Red Rock. After her ID was verified as valid by the Milwaukee Police Department, we decided not to enter Red Rock because this had ruined our night. Although we were (previously) regulars at Red Rock, this incident was ridiculous and my friends and i WILL NOT be returning in the future. read more
