I really wanted to leave a 5 star review. Close but didn't make it. Place is good. I will be going back, but it wasn't 5 star. First, I don't like cold edamame. Even worst was cold shrimp tempura, the roll would've been good if the tempura was fresh. For a busy lunch rush, you would think they could rotate out hot and fresh tempura rolls. This review is mainly about the service. So my husband and I came here after my City of Hope visit as I was starving after fasting for 24 hours. Our server was Allison she was not good at all. Not friendly, didn't smile at all or say hello. The moment we sat down she immediately asked for our drink and food order. Like ok, we just sat down give us a minute please. So we ordered and the food was good. Sushi was nice and fresh. I liked it so did my husband. To the manger or owner. Please have Allison smile some,be friendly, be excited about working here. She didn't come back to check on us. We had to get her attention to bring us some water and togo boxes I do plan to come back when we're in the area. I just won't have her as our server. Diet Sushi. That must be what they're going for here. I had four pieces of nigiri sushi that had the smallest rice cake ever formed by hand. And the small amount of fish sitting on top of it unfortunately looked scale-correct. Meaning, very small. The three regular rolls ordered (tuna, salmon, yellowtail) were very small in diameter so, correspondingly, the amount of fish inside each roll was literally so little I almost laughed. But the amount on the check to-be-paid was normal sized. And the 'B' hidden on the front window, somewhat out of view, should have been an indication that all was not up to snuff. So, with this unfortunate experience behind me I'm lead to inquire with others as to their experience at Red Salmon. Small cuts of fish? Not quite as fresh tasting as hoped for? That was my take-away. Not good, and with expendable income being something to be stretched a bit more these days, I'll have to say I won't be returning. I had the chicken teriyaki and although it was good it had a little to much garlic, that was all I could taste. My friend had a tuna roll wrapped in seaweed, she said it was very hard to chew. After living in NY-NJ for so long I felt like I was in a scene of a nightclub. Songs by Katy Perry, Nikki Minaj, Usher and more. I half expected other customers to get up and start dancing... First time here but definitely returning. I went in on my birthday with a friend but I wasn't sure what to expect. It was pretty busy but the waitress greeted us immediately. After a few minutes we were seated at bar with the sushi chefs. Our chef was George. He was such an amazing host from beginning to end. For context. I have been going to gold fish sushi for 16 years. Never had an issue up until February 2025 when I got horrible food poisoning. Me and a couple other friends went and we all had the same thing except I had yellow tail and they didn't. Later that night I was dealing with the worst food poisoning of my life. Fast forward to now at red Salmon that I had yesterday with my girlfriend. I had yellow tail again and a salmon skin salad. Well here I am dealing with another vicious bout of food poisoning. Either they are cross contaminating, have a temperature issue, or are purchasing bad product. Needless to say, I am writing off both restaurants. Red salmon and goldfish are both owned and operated by the same owner. The service at goldfish is much better than red salmon. There have been quite a few times at red Salmon. They have forgotten to bring me part of my order, or they just have taken forever even when the place hasn't been busy. I'm extremely disappointed in both restaurants and before something serious happens they need to get it together. read more

If I'm not willing to travel for good sushi, Red Salmon is my #1 the place to go. When I can afford it that is FOOD - is DELIGHTFUL and the menu's variety is PLEASING! Their BAKED MUSSELS, TAKOYAKI, and SOFT-SHELL CRAB are, appetizers yes, BUT by far the most lovely savory treat one could ask for, in my opinion. 10/10 WONDERFUL! SERVICE - Their service quality VARIES based on how busy they are TRUTHFULLY. They always seem to be quite busy and packed when I go, most times. So, I'd mark their service as SATISFACTORY (3.7/5) AMBIENCE - is FAIRLY NICE! Ordered $40 worth of food, 2 rolls, two soups. The last two bites if my roll were burned! How does a seafood place send out burned food?! This is the last time we order from red salmon. They very clearly knew it was burned because the burned pieces had excessive amounts of sauce on top. I also know it's overcooked and burned because the shrimp is so tough my fingernail won't even cut it with ample pressure. Nasty! Also ordered miso soup and I was basically given a bowl of broth. We've been here many times & it's been good, but this last time was so disappointing! I think it's because they have too much business with very little employees, so they're always running to give people service. Also, the place has gotten way too small for the amount of people that go eat in there!!! They need a bigger location. So, I ordered what I always do, Vegetable Miso soup. Immediately I notice it's not filled to the top like it usually is, I take a sip & it tastes & looks like oil instead of broth & what was supposed to be extra cabbage was a piece of paper in the soup!!! I decided to head right over just to check because I was fairly close and wanted to try the place out. When I walked in I was shocked to see about 3 empty booths, at least 4 empty seats at the bar, and several small tables empty. There was no hour wait, we walked in and were seated immediately. I don't know why the person on the phone would say that when there was only about a 10 minute gap between my call and my arrival. The place couldn't have cleared out that fast. Red Salmon is one of the better sushi places in the AV, but take that with a grain of salt because the selection out here is pretty grim. SUSHI RECCOS, YOU'RE WELCOME: Here's what I recommend ordering for two people: - Start with miso soup and Krispy rice spicy tuna roll for appetizers - order the 911 roll, tuna tataki, hot night roll and volcano roll for dinner - if you're feeling extra hungry, order the dinner box and split it between the two of you This dinner comes out to $80-ish in total. After trying as many rolls as we have on the menu, this has proven to be our favorite grouping of rolls. The baked salmon/scallop rolls are really good too. A NOTE ON WAIT TIMES AND QUALITY: My boyfriend and I live right down the street and we've never been consistently happy with the takeout service. Excusing the times they're extremely busy, there's been nights where it was dead and we got cold dishes from our servers. And to those of you complaining above wait times... it's a small business, and a small restaurant at that. There been help wanted signs posted up FOR MONTHS. They're understaffed so plan your night accordingly... BETTER SERVICE THAN IN 2020: The service, I will say, has gotten better since I started going here in November 2020. As of June 2022, the employees I've come across have been warm and welcoming and pretty attentive. However, when you order takeout and they say they'll call you when your food is ready, half the time they don't call on time or forget to, and your order will be cold by the time you pick it up. He loves the prices, he loves the food, and he loves the service...My only complaint for Red Salmon is my father in law wants a t-shirt...The official answer from the sushi chef is you have to work there to get a T-shirt. My father in law is 80 years old, and I think he would be a good host for one day.... All I ask of Red Salmon is to hire my father in law, Tom Lucky Dog, for one day, so that he can get a t shirt, and then you can fire him; but please let him keep the shirt... Time to find a new sushi spot! Every time I place a pick up they give a time estimate and tell me they'll call if it's ready before then. Yet they never fucking call, ever! Which is really annoying considering half the time my order is ready before the estimated time they give. Because of this I know to go in earlier then the time they give and my order is always sitting there ready. Here's a suggestion, stop telling people you'll call when it's ready, if you're not going to fucking call. It's really that simple! But honestly this isn't my main issue and reason for this review. I've been a loyal costumer to red salmon ever since they opened way back in like 2015 or whenever that was. And over the years of course prices have gone up, especially when the pandemic hit. But they've now raised their prices again!! Has the quality gone up at all? NOPE. Has it gone down. YES. What really gets me is that my order is always the same, but for some reason when I get it, it's always made differently which sometimes really affects the taste. I understand y'all have different chefs, but there really should be more consistency in the recipes. Like look at the photos attached, y'all don't even stick to what's listed on the menu!!
