Not the typical dealer experience! Evan made this car buying experience exceptional. I called in asking about two cars over the phone. He was polite and honest with me when he told me one was in excellent condition and the other had previously been in an accident. This caught me off guard. I've never had a dealer be so up front and honest. Second he never placed any pressure for me to buy the car. He knew it was below Blue Book value and still gave me 500 off the already low price. I felt the offer was to good to be true so to be safe I ran it by my trusted mechanic and everything checked out. The car was almost seven years old and had minor scratches on it. Most of the scratches buffed out right away. The car was clean and detailed. I made my $500 deposit and returned the next day. After further inspection and getting a banker to loan the additional $10k, it was purchased. Evan was willing to work after hours and even opened the store early for my mechanic to look at it. I've had the car over a month now and I've never been this satisfied in a car buying experience. Evan offered a 48hr cool down/return. I decided to call them to find out why they were priced the same as clean title and was told that's what the market is. As a dealer myself I can assure it most certainly is not. Not only is it shady to not outright list the branding status of a title on the site, but to then charge the same as a non salvage title, is utterly ludicrous. So I'll try to do this review as a timeline since I first saw the car and first went to Red Star Auto. The first paragraph will be the review, the rest would be the experience I have had. So purchased a 2016 Nissan Frontier 4x4 30k miles salvage title vehicle listed at $17,999 from this location after seeing it on OfferUp. I worked with Evan T. who was a super nice guy. And talked me through what my options were when it came to purchasing the truck. Didn't feel like he was pressuring me to purchase the truck despite going back like 3-4 times to look at it. The post was honest about the title and he mentioned it in person not trying to hide it. Gave me advice about insurance since he use to work with one before. I was told by my insurance (before purchase) that they don't recommend full coverage for a salvage title. But after I told Evan that they can't say no if I want to and legally in CA they can't deny my insurance even though it's a salvage title. The car has been driving great with not many issues. Some stuff notice was broken that they will be fixing soon and one thing I am waiting for a response. Overall I had a positive experience and had recommended the location to a couple of friends. If I needed another vehicle I would go here to check their inventory. The downside of the location is its location because it is in Lakeside so it's a bit far from my location in San Diego. Pre-purchase: Feb-Mar 2021 So I have started shopping for a car before I actually needed one. Was just messing around and checking Craigslist and OfferUp. The ones that caught my eye was a 2016 Nissan Frontier SV 4x4 30k-ish miles for $17,999 with salvage title on OfferUp back around Feb. 2021 or Mar. 2021, went to test drive it and felt good but at the time wasn't ready to buy. Skip to the end of June when I was in a small accident at the fault of the other party where my car was considered a total loss. So now I had to purchase a vehicle. So in July when I started looking again after big brand dealerships failed to convince me to buy a pre-owned or new car I came back to OfferUp and saw that the truck was still there. At time of purchase: 7/2021 So went back to test drive it and liked it but was hesitant to purchase it because of the salvage title. It looked great and was told it was front right damage with minimal damage to the frame. So since I saw other similar like Frontiers without 4x4 at almost $30k price I took went back and purchased but not after haggling a bit. But knowing it was a salvage title knew there was going to be some little things wrong with it. Post-purchase: 8/2021 The paint wasn't the best, tires needed replacement if wanted to go off-roading but decent for a paved road. The truck bed might need to be redone or something but I don't mind, trying to but some storage drawers. The rear driver light was broken but they are working to fix it, they have ordered the wrong side but when purchased it mention they would fix it. The same night I took it home tried cleaning my window but to my surprise, no fluid came out. Guess it was empty but when trying to put water it leaked and found out the reservoir/tank was cracked. Called them and said yes they would fix it, the shop informed me they ordered the wrong part so they ordered the correct one and waiting for it. Took it to get an alignment at Lutz Tires & Auto Repair (a great shop) because I purchased new wheels and asked for them to check if it needed tune-up such as new spark plugs, brake, any fluids, and overall condition. Come to find it the engine mounts need replacements at under $900 and some minimal frame damage that they said I could fix it if I wanted to but it's not too bad. Currently waiting for a reply from the shop to see if they will help me with this. But won't be mad if they say no because I knew some stuff would be wrong. read more

@ Azerz ignorance is bliss, isn't it? You may or may not have changed ownership on paper only. I see businesses change ownership to a family member all the time, to get out of obligations. As for the changed APR I know exactly what happened. Red Star wasn't able to sell the loan to the bank at the rate on the loan loan papers that were signed. That in itself isn't a crime. The right thing to do would have been to call me and man up, but rather than telling me of the issue, Red Star drew up new documents at the higher rate and forged my signature. I have proof. This is complete fraud, and I would have pursued legal action but financially it wasn't worth it to me. Consider yourself lucky. Shame on Red Star. read more

They have x2 locations (We only visited the Lakeside one). They also have vehicle listings on their website and also allow you to do "on-line credit application" through their website too! Which is helpful when budget (gas prices) and time is valuable to you (family/work/life). Evan communicates clearly and frequently with any questions you may have asked and or any up to date information that is pertinent and or important in getting you into your new car! I offer this review to others because this place (and Evan specifically) deserves it! If you are like me, bad impressions and or experiences are not forgotten. I will never forget and not often offer second chances because there are soooo many options out there today and it seems customer service, morals and values seem to be disregarded now-a-days. I love my best friends new car! This place was so good to her, awesome price for an amazing car! They picked her up from Tierrasanta so that she could check out the car (during rush hour) and they financially worked with her so that she would be able to take the car that evening. She went in the next day and the gas cap light was on, they straight gave her ample to replace the gas cap and when that didn't work, sent her right over to their mechanic who took care of it. He was willing to work with a number of issues I had concerning payment. I liked that they provide a 3 month guarantee on engine and one has the ability to return the vehicle with a minimal restocking fee. Long story short, I bought my mother a car. If I could I will give a zero starts horrible customer service I went this past Saturday 2 guys were getting my info they told me that they only work with 1 bank for the refinance I have decent credit they gave a a card from a lady that works at state farm made me do all the work for them instead of them doing them and making the client satisfied.When I was done with the lady on the phone one of the guys tells me that either way I have to wait until monday because they wont sell me the car in a Saturday super annoying they tried giving me a high percentage and the worst part is that they only work with one bank.Horrible customer service I qualified for the car and you guys just give me options like ???? Can't I get what I want?Really unprofessional to put someone business I thought it was confidential.The thing is that you guys dont even try working with your clients you guys don't even try to make a sell both of the guys that where there they looked fucken lazy taking pictures of my info and texting it to who knows who.We are here to help ? After being in the market for a reliable, used vehicle and days upon hours of searching for a Honda, or Toyota, I came across Red Star Auto. They had an extremely clean Honda, with very low miles and seemingly in great condition. I immediately called and spoke with the first person who answered the phone: Evan. I recently purchased a car from them and in spite of applying at several other dealers including several new car large dealerships and being summarily denied credit; Evan at Red Star was able to get me financed with reasonable terms and less than 10% down. In addition, shortly after buying the car it developed a transmission issue related to a general recall issued by Honda; and Honda then refusing to honor the recall repair, Evan and the owner of Red Star intervened and paid out of pocket to replace the entire transmission at no charge to me. The car runs perfectly now and I am completely satisfied with these gentlemen and Red Star. There were times I lost my temper at them fearing that I was going to get stuck with a lemon but they always gave me the option to return the car for a complete refund and never lost their composure in spite of me losing mine. Called on a Wednesday night and spoke to Evan. Asked if they still had the red Silverado that I had seen earlier on CarGurus. Evan said yes and asked if we'd like to come see it tonight and that he would wait for us. I said no that's okay but we'll come see it in the morning when they open at 10 am. Evan said okay and that he'd see us then. Next morning my wife and I show up at 9:40 because we like to be early and no one is there. 10 am comes and still no one. Another customer comes but still no salesman. The other customer calls Evan and it turns out Evan and his two other co workers went to a car auction and said it was okay from that customer to come pick him up from the auction in one of the cars off the lot and to just get a spare key from the mechanic shop next door. Meanwhile my wife and I waited for another 45 mins for Evan to arrive. Once Evan finally gets there we introduce ourselves and say no worries for the wait. We ask to see the Silverado and Evan tells us "oh that ones not here it's still being inspected. It should be here tonight at 4 at the latest and I'll call you then.". Needless to say we went to a different dealership and found a much nicer Silverado. Evan ended up calling later that night around 6 too.
