Modifying my previous review, Red Table deserves a full five stars! Since my last review they have modified their ordering system by assigning each table a server. You are no longer required, unless you want to, order your food at the counter. I think this is a great improvement for the newbies that come to Red Table, making it much less confusing. I also have to add, my husband has been a skeptic about the food, never branching out to try something new in place of the Winemaker Burger which he loves. One night a special caught his eye, and he finally decided to tried something new from his usual - the beef wellington with jumbo shrimp - and he claims he is sold! No longer a skeptic, totally loves the food and ready to try more new items. By the way, he was so excited that he bought the 'Kitchen Beer', which is a round of taster beers for the kitchen staff - what a neat idea! I think the rotating specials at RT are a great idea, keep it up! I don't understand others reviews about being displeased with the food. I have always enjoyed my meal, love the ambiance, and think the Chef and Owners have a great thing going. Even more, they seem to be open to change and trying to please their customer base as much as possible. To me this is the equation for a successful place. We are very happy to have this joint in our neighborhood, and hope they continue to grow. Great job RT! read more

I really do love the food here and the specials are usually awesome but here are my quams; I've been to going toThe Red Table at least once a month since they opened, wasn't a fan of the old style of ordering but loved the value of the craft beers and food up until now. Also, I've had servers in the past who if they didn't know an answer to a question, they'd say so and find out the answer. I love honesty so cheers to that! But I went there last night and was a little irked at the direction the place seems to be going. - the specials are getting rediculous in price: $30~45 dollars. I'm thinking they are wanting a non~working class clientel, and while there are many that fit that criteria in HB, in this economy throw us a bone guys! Another minus is the beer portions and glassware/serving style. They raised the prices of the beer and decreased the ounces served. And every beer I ordered last night came in a belgian tulip glass with 50% of the serving foam (only one of my beers was belgian). And the last three times I have gone in there I've had the same bartender who doedn't have the slightest clue about the beer she's serving. It seems that only three of the beers there rotate, the rest are seemingly permanet so you think she'd have the descriptions down, wrong. All three times I've gone in lost abbeys red barn has been on tap but since its not listed I asked what the tap handle was, first time "lost abbey red barn. You know, its like a red". No, honey, its not(apparently you haven't poured one yet).Second time I asked about a bruery beer and she said it was a pale ale when it was a belgian golden, and last night, so whats the lost abbey tonight? Same girl "its like a pale ale and a red, but really light". My response, "yeah, I know red barn, its a belgian saison" her: "a belgian sazzioon?" Yeah, nevermind. I guess I won't be asking about the wine either. So i'm perplexed about this place, yummy food but an unknowledgable staff and increasing by the month prices. I'm not sure if I'll be back. read more

Really like this place. Cool atmosphere, micro brews at the bar, and the food is fun. Kinda playfully experimental. The staff is really great too. I've been to this place 8 or 9 times now and always had a good time. It's more LA then OC but believe me that is a good thing. read more

Had dinner there 5 days ago, lighting was terrible, we had to go to an area at bar to see the menu. Food was hit and miss, tons of garlic in garlic chicken it was overwhelming. One person in party left prescription glasses, I phoned following day to confirm they had them, someone went to get them this evening and was told they had in the office but they threw the glasses out in trash after 4 days. Owner Mark could care less, said he is not responsible for things that people leave in restaurant, (this is a customer service industry, I guess he doesn't know that), he said quote; "They are not responsible to hold onto anyone's lost property after 4 days", definitely would not recommend this restaurant due to customer service, lighting and food quality. read more

I'm not going to lie, when Red Table first opened. I wasn't really a fan. I felt their menu was limited, but now that they've been in business for a while, this is my go-to spot anytime I visit home. I like how they have happy hour bites and a wide selection. Their truffle grilled cheese is really good! I love their specials as well! (note: please add charcuterie board, creme brulee cheesecake and another chocolate dessert to the menu!) I hope they put more specials on the everyday menu. I think there may have been one time where the customer service was not up to par. But again, great food! read more

This was one of the big disappointments. Had been wanting to check this restaurant out for sometime. Waiter running around but not organized. Order the Tortilla soup. Was bad. Just a thick thick tomato soup. Order a salad .Beautiful salad, with a table spoon of dressing. Had to ask waiter for more dressing. Was half done with the salad before I got the dressing. Friend ask for salt and pepper. Waiter ask if we were going to ask for anything else before he left the table? He brought the salt and pepper in a small dish. I took my sister for her birthday. It had been recommended by a friend. We loved the food. We had the dates wrapped in bacon, split the salad that had shrimp and the short ribs. Then since it was her birthday they gave us this luscious banana pudding type dessert Over all we enjoyed our meal. I drink Patron and she drinks Johnnie Walker Black and they didn't have it but we found something to drink. read more

I came here last night and the food was fantastic. The place definitely has that Gastropub feel...which I love. The service was very good. First off, Service: I am not the type of person who needs every dish explained to me at length and a waiter who heeds my every wish, but frankly the service was awful. The hostess seated us and gave us our menus but after that we did not see anyone from the wait staff for more than a few minutes until a waitress came to ask if we wanted any drinks. She was very curt, no hello, no my name is or anything like that. Then we waited...and waited, no one took our order. We finally had to flag down someone to take our order. This was a different person than our first waiter. He took our order nicely enough but the menu has a bunch of daily specials on it...bread of the day...soup of the day...vegetable dish of the day and more. He didn't mention any of these. I had to ask him individually what each of them were. We got 2 appetizers (plus bread, which they charge for; it's on the menu as Daily Bread - chef's daily special but it was just sliced french bread, toasted with a little oil). One appetizer came out promptly (although it was not made without prosciutto like we had asked. We asked for another and they replaced it quickly enough but they charged us for 2 on the bill; we asked for this to be reversed and it was). They also charged us an extra dollar to bring butter with our bread, we asked for this to be reversed and it was. We also ordered a soup and it took a long time for it to come out, we finally had to ask for it and they brought it out right away after that. Our entrees came in a reasonable amount of time but the waiter who brought them out was different from our first 2 waiters. We had also asked to substitute mixed veggies for potatoes with fish that my father ordered and the waiter said ok, but when the bill came there was an extra charge for this. We asked our waiter and he said they don't do substitutions and this charge couldn't be reversed. He didn't tell us no substitutions up front. Food: I did not think the food here was good. We had the Shishito Peppers as an appetizer. They were swimming in citrus oil. My father had the tomato bisque but he only took a few spoonfuls and actually sent it back. Overall I thought entrees were poorly flavored and too salty. I had the hot turkey sandwich, which was bland, didn't have any distinct flavor to it except that it was generally salty, and the au jus it came with didn't have much meat flavor to it, it just tasted salty. I tried some of the "Veggi Dish of Today" my sister got. It was all right, 4 slices of eggplant with diced veggies, ragu and cheese on top; again it was too salty. Tried some of my father's Salmon a la Plancha, this was actually good. Good portion of fish, the asparagus was good and the mustard sauce was tasty if you like mustard. If not get it on the side and the fish is still good. My brother had the Pan Roasted Chicken, which I tried, it was too salty and I didn't think it tasted that good. The mashed potatoes it came with were nothing special but they weren't bad. I doubt that I will be back even given the lack of good restaurants in this area of town near my home. read more

Came here for dinner the other night and it was great. Our server Joshua was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and an all around cool guy. We chatted for a little bit about beer and was glad to be served by a fellow craft beer fanatic. I ordered the buffalo strips and they were seriously some of the best I've ever had. Ate here yesterday with a former work colleague from LA whom is also a foodie. I am by way from Chicago, so my culinary experiences have been raised since childhood. On i go.... Ive been reading the great reviews, and mama needed to try. Went for lunch. The menu prices are fantastic for the quality and food portions. Lets start with the wine list. Here is why i like it. It appears that the owner and or chef choae the wines to pair with the food. We went with a french dry sparkling. It was a steal at $40 bucks. Get this-ahi poke with eggplant points. Seriously for 12, it was another wow. Huge high grade ahi chunks that melt in your mouth with avacado, onion, pepers all with the perfect amount of seasoning and acids. Then the eggplant, fried to perfection acts as the base. You will love this. Eggplant poke crack is the new name i do presume. My friend ordered the hangar steak. It was to die for. Perfect medium cooking, with yukon gold.smashed and decadently crisp yet soft geen beans. $20. Un heard of.... I ordered the winemaker burger. I do un fortunately think this burger is lacking in the rich flavor i assumed from the reviews. I feel like bobby flay made it. In effect covered the flavor of the meat with too many carmelized onions. The mushrooms too lost strenth in the ensemble. I hate to say this, but try the hang out burger at the hangout in seal beach. It tops this. Im not kidding. I just set the bar high, with the reviews and just think the burget deserves a 3.5. The server was a dream. She was informative, smart and gave us great attention. We went for lunch today and they are understaffed, it took them 10min to bring us a high chair. This is not out first time I have experienced slow service here, my salad was bland today too. Mediocre. Tried the curry fries & wasabi fries. The curry fries were okay, nothing special at all about them. Kind of had an off taste to the dipping sauce. And the wasabi aioli was waaaay too strong. Wasn't pleasant at all. I needed to order a side of blue cheese to even out the flavor. Also we had the Mac & Cheese... The portion was sooooo small. Barley enough to share even tho on the menu it says "Share" Had the tuna poke with eggplant chips. Meh. The poke was pretty good but hardly had tuna. It was mostly avocado, onions& other veggies. The eggplant chips didn't really go with it. I figured they can't mess up dessert. Again, weird tasting chocolate raspberry cake. How can you make chocolate cake taste funny?! Definitely didn't like it at all. Wasn't satisfied with the food or the prices. 2 stars for the great environment (nice chandeliers, dim lighting, nice decor) And our server was very nice and attentive. Won't be coming back. Only recommend this place if you go for drinks or happy hour. read more

Went on a Saturday night, be sure you make reservations. Relaxed vibe, corking fee only $10, service was great, food delicious! I was excited to try the grilled cheese and tomato soup as I love grilled cheese and yes, I'm an adult. This is the BEST grilled cheese I've ever had, you won't be disappointed!! Eh~ that's all I can say. The dates are melt in your mouth delicious and a unique take on a classic app. Everything else was just ok. The tuna tartare is not being tasted by the chef or else it would be seasoned and you can't call what we were served flatbread. Flatbread is thin and crusty with sparse but flavorful toppings. Our flat bed was doughy, undercooked in the middle where it was too thick and crispy only on the very edges. It was also loaded with greasy cheese, thick cut tomatoes and I won't complain about the twice cooked bacon, because bacon is always good. The happy hour wine made us sad and when we instead choose to order a nicer bottle from the wine list it was served in a warm decanter. This place has a great atmosphere and seems like it could be a neighborhood gem. Do fewer things really well, serve good happy hour wine, & taste your food. read more

The atmosphere is pleasant pub. The servers were pleasant enough, but failed to mention that the cocktail that I ordered was not covered by the 1/2 off deal offered on the table. The food- Meh. The soup was overly salted. The main courses are enormous. I suppose I'd rather have a delicious well portioned meal for $20 than a huge mediocre meal that will end up as 2 day old leftovers. The winner of the meal was the dessert. Once again ENORMOUS, but at least it was really tasty. read more

We LOVE Red Table. It's a great neighborhood restaurant. We can usually can count on great food. Over the years the service could be hit or miss. Lately and specifically today the service was horrible. We waited and waited for our order to be taken. We waited and waited for our food. I ordered the special that had a cauliflower mash as a side. It was ice cold-totally inedible. Our service paid so little attention we were done before she checked back. Why oh why can't they attract and keep good servers? Such a shame! read more

I had never been to Red Table before until my friend suggested it for lunch. I was so pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious, the decor was very sheik. I loved the whole experience. I can't wait to take my family there too...kids eat free. If you go you have to try the chips and salsa, it was the BEST. It might be a little hard to find but it is in the back of the plaza by the Real Estate office. You will be glad you went. read more

I can't believe I waited so long to eat at Red Table! My boyfriend and I went for a midweek date night. There were a lot of tables available, so we were seated right away. The wine and beer list had interesting selections on it. We had the dates and the shishito peppers for appetizers. The dates were fantastic! The peppers were good, too, but paled next to the dates. My boyfriend ordered the rockfish special, which was pricey, but worth every penny. It was a massive portion. I had the baby scallop special, which was served with a spicy marinara over orzo. That had a healthy amount of spice, and great flavor. We passed on dessert because we were so full. The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable. I'm definitely coming back. It'll take a lifetime to try everything on the menu. read more

Red Table was great - we went on the recommendation of their Devil Eggs in a magazine and from other reviews, and were not disappointed. Followed the eggs with a Pork Belly BLT which was sublime. Plus the service was fast, friendly, and attentive. This place deserves to be recognised and to stand out from the very crowded LA restaurant scene. read more
