Great place for instruction, fitting, practice and new clubs! The golf course is a plus also!

I went yesterday with the intent of hitting a bucket beforehand, warming up, then playing 18. The range is a great practice facility. Double decker style with plenty of actual targets to hit at. Pro shop isn't nearly as great as others make it sound. It's average sized, probably too many people working in the center counter. The course layout wasn't particularly interesting, but the slow play is what really got me irritated. I quit after 13 holes because we were backed up on the next tee. I had waited nearly ten minutes on every tee box, another ten minutes in the fairway. It's no wonder it was a 3 hour front nine. The players assistant was more interested in chatting than improving the pace of play, even after informing him of how slow it was. $46 on a Sunday afternoon to walk, there are much better deals in town. I'd gladly return to work on my game, but not to play the course. read more

I first learned to golf at the junior clinics at what was called Progress Downs in 1964. Today when I was having my 4th of 8 lessons with Cindy Lincoln I heard all the kids in the clinic giggling. It brought back such fun memories of those early days. Cindy is great. They have the most up to date video equipment and they get delivered right into my text. I belong to 2 private golf clubs and neither has the up to date teaching equipment or instructors that Red Tail has. Cindy is able to identify exactly what I'm doing wrong and has great teaching tools to help me improve. My last club fitting was at Red Tail and my 8 year old clubs can be replaced with newer lighter ones. Stewart will take care of me with Cindy's help as to my needs. read more

This has been an up and down experience center for me. I call and they are always saying ," no problem see you when you get here." as a single player. Just make sure when you call to verify what openings they have and what the traffic is. The cheerful phone reception is lame when you get there and there is over an hour wait. I really wish I could return the rounds on my card but those are non refundable too. So I will have to drag myself out here again. I just wish I felt like they cared that I have been coming here for over five years. Lame. read more

Tough for a city "suburban" course. I like it, but it's a bitch. The pluses: good challenge, okay shape, decent in the winter, driving range, cheap clearance area (packed with stuff). The minuses: It's in Beaverton, --getting there and leaving there is annoying--unless you live in Beaverton,Tigard. prices are high for a city course. Hint: Go Monday - Thursday before 2pm for price break and speed of round. It gets super packed on evenings and nice weekends. Full of beginner golfers and kids. The pro shop is busy, because there's no real golf store around. The regular priced merch is expensive Goose Poop This course is not easy for a new golfer and still is challenging for an experienced player, but it's a nice option if you happen to be in SW Portland. No current comment on current beverage / food situation: Bunker's for the snack shack, beer in cooler in pro shop, and the StockPot Broiler on premises. Brilliant for a nice meal-Steak. They have regular beverage cart service, too. read more

You have to come here if you are in the market to buy new golf clubs. I haven't golfed regularly in a LONG time. These days I golf twice per year and that's only for work functions. Recently I've been getting the itch again so I stopped by this place to test out some clubs. This place is pretty darn amazing. I walked in without any expectations - I just wanted to see what the new clubs were like and hit some balls for free. Instead, one of the sales people took me to the club fitting section of the store. This place is amazing. They have 4 mats, all set up with dopler radar ball tracking systems. You hit real balls into the range from the fitting area and all the stats of your shot come up on the big ole flat panel display including club speed, exact ball flight, spin, angle, and my personal fav, smash factor. It's like way better than Wii. I stayed there for like 2 hours and then went back the next day for another 2 hours. Finally ended up with some clubs I liked and was given a free lesson on top of my purchase... hey, what are they saying about my swing... Anyway, the sales guys don't work off commission which is a nice thing too. I never felt pressured to buy anything. read more

Couldn't have had a better experience! Have been putting very bad for a bit and decided to try changing grips to see if that would make a difference (have to start somewhere). After picking out the grip and expecting to just drop it off and pick it up the next day, was told they would take care of it on the spot. A few minutes later, pro shop employee Jeff walks out and shows me that there is a big bend in the shaft of my putter and didn't want to charge me for a grip without showing me this so I am not wasting money. Jeff asked if I was alright with him trying a couple things, before having to take it to be re-shafted, and I said go for it, as it was useless as it was. He was able to carefully bend it back into a perfect shape, and loft, and sent me out the door without having to pay to get the shaft replaced. I teach customer service for a living and can recognize when someone understands what good customer service looks like......Jeff understands good customer service and, you can tell, prides himself on taking it to "Great" customer service. We was not teaching me just how to swing but how to make adjustments to correct and alter my swing for different play situations . I'm looking forward to more lessons! Came here due to a discount on GolfNow. Covered practice range is nice with the rain (although I prefer to hit off actual grass in comparison to the mats). A round at the course was pretty good. Pace of play was decent (with me walking) and wasn't held up by slow play. Greens were in pretty decent shape and rolled a little slower than I'm used to but wasn't a big deal. read more

I purchased a new pair of golf shoes on 1/5/2020 and the salesman was great. Attentive, knowledgeable, and brought me multiple pairs before I made my decision. Once I took them home I looked up the brand to find these shoes are 50% off online at multiple retailers which would save me $112. I took them back on 1/7/2020 to return and gave them the option to match but the manager on duty at 418pm was a complete blank blank blank. I paid some in redtail gift cards from the holiday, a visa gift card and cash. He tried to say that he could only refund me in a redtail gift card but I was not going to except that since $70 of it was my own money. He was rude, started aggressively speaking to me, and tossing the receipts/my card at me saying ITS RIGHT! I've been going here and to the stockpot my whole life and never been treated so rudely in a retail experience just for being a savvy consumer. The golf range at RedTail municipal rivals any of the best local ranges around. Although you can't hit off grass, there are plenty of stalls and the balls are in pretty good shape. Prices are competitive with any range in the area as well. Make sure to hit it center because there are apartments off to the left. The golf course is Portland's busiest muni. The pace of play is really slow most of the times we went. A four to five hour round is not unheard of. It also has a ridiculous par 5 that plays more like a par 6. I wouldn't suggest this course for beginners or slower players. The elevation varies nicely and moves several times around water hazards. During peak months the greens get a little brown from all the play and excessive heat. There is plenty of parking and it's really easy to find, especially if you know how to get to Washington Square Shopping Center. read more

This review is for the Kids Golf Camps and Lessons. Love. Missing the 5th star because the public course doesn't have the availability to let the groups play during practice as much. But individual lessons make up for that. That said, Alex and JP have made my life miserable because I can't beat my boys on short courses. Learning the game at an early age has made them comfortable on any course and they enjoy the experience. Even our little one gets a pointer every now and again. The instructors treat the kids like little adults, challenging them as much as encouraging, all the while expecting respect. Those kids that are dropped off for babysitting are pushed to focus or find a Gymboree. If you're looking for a place to test the waters, give Alex and JP a call. Then get the bulk group classes and a starter set on craigslist. It's given our family an activity we can all do for fun. read more

Well maintained public golf course. As long as you can avoid the Jr. Clinics and camps during the year its a very nice place. For $9 you get a lots of balls for the driving range (I think about 110), and green fees never go over $40, even for the weekend. Its nice and layed back from my experience with friendly staff and plenty of driving range space. read more

The pace and greens were good, but for the $s, this course needs to hire new grounds caretaker.... poorly maintained all over...especially tee boxes. Will think twice before I play there again. read more

This review is about the pro shop: I came in today to try out new clubs and possibly buy some. I had an appointment with Stuart, and assumed I would try some clubs and probably come back and try more later. Stuart was excellent, he realized early on what I needed (senior men's clubs and not ladies), and found clubs that worked well with my swing, amount I play, and price range. I wasn't sure on the driver, so he assured me that I should think about it and wrote down the info for me. I came home with a new set of Taylor Made Irons that were 50% off (2014 model), a Taylor Made 3 wood and a 4 hybrid. I'm super excited to play, and very impressed with the the service and enjoyable experience I had today. If you are coming in for new clubs, ask for Stuart or make an appointment with him- he knows his stuff and has a no pressure approach! read more

This review will sound like I was paid to write this, but I promise, this is not. This is how confident I feel about going to Red Tail. Disclaimer - I have no idea about the course or the general driving range. The driving range looks nice (2 levels and heaters) and the course I can't speak to. My experience is solely related to fitting appointments with Jason Burnett. Background: I live in San Francisco. I've been to many fittings at many different places in the Bay Area. I am on my 4th set of club and have been playing for about 14 years. My brother in law (lives in Portland) took me to meet Jason since he's used him many times and is in the golf industry. He claimed Jason was great. I went to see Jason and I started with wanting a new driver or to re-shaft my current driver. Long story short, he spent 1.5 hours with me on a driver and I never thought pressured to not hit additional balls or to buy one driver over another. The thing that he did do was show me drivers that I had zero intentions of buying when I walked through the door and they ended up being better for my swing. He also spent time with me on my swing to point out a few things on my swing with my driver and watched my iron swing and helped me change a few minor things and tweaked it for the better. I have been super happy with my driver and feel like I was fitted with the right equipment. I then decided that I was ready for new irons. I was certain I knew what I wanted (Mizunos) and had even tried them a few different times at shops near my house. I made a special trip to fly up to see Jason (and play Bandon). I scheduled an hour with him and again, he spent easily 2 plus hours with me. We went through numerous different shafts and different clubhead combinations. I am not a very decisive person, so it took me a while and we went back and forth on feel and we widdled down the selections. It turns out, the combination that Jason put me in were WAAAAY better than the Mizunos that I went in there for. I have improved the ease of my swing, increased distance and accuracy and I am scoring more consistently. BOTTOM LINE: I trust Jason and that's the most important thing when investing in clubs. I will always travel back to Portland to see Jason to get fitted for anything related to golf. Or I will follow him to whatever shop he is with. Thank you Jason. read more

Thanks so much to Jason Burnett! We have worked with Jason for several years. I have a daughter who is a Jr. in HS, and my son is a Frosh. Jason has fitted my kids in clubs as they have grown. I think we have done at lease 5 fittings with him. His personality is perfect with kids. I also brought my nephew up from Medford to get fitted. He plays golf in college and felt the set Jason put him in was his best fit yet. I never feel like Jason "over sales" products. I love that he is not brand loyal to just one company. Many reviews have focused on the staff, pace of play, teaching pros and driving range. But if you want to know about the course itself, and you are an average 90's Golfer; (Don't lie to yourself), Yeah you will like it. I've played Muni's in 4 states and Red Tail stands up as one of the best as a Golf Course. Challenging but fair, well maintained, smattering of hazards that only penalize really poor shots, forgiving fairway width and greens ample enough for the weekend warrior in size and with minimal slope and average roll. Tee to green lengths on most holes reward an average drive with a 7 iron approach and all but 16 are well designed holes. 16 needs to be bulldozed and redesigned. Obviously these statements relate to the course if you were playing it alone, so here is the Caveat. The Pro Shop manager doesn't like people. Customers or staff. He needs a new vocation as his attitude infects the otherwise nice people helping you spend your money. The start times are 8 minutes apart which is revenue driven. Expect excruciating wait times on most rounds as no weekend warrior plays at this pace. I've payed for 18 several times and had to quit at the end of a 4 hour first 9. If you choose your day and time of play carefully to avoid slow play, and you are there for golf, not for warm and fuzzy treatment by the staff, Red Tail is a good choice in the area. read more

I'll be honest, I've only played on the course once. It rained...so it wasn't fun. This review is really about the lessons that Redtail has. About a year and a half a go I decided to pick up the game of golf after about 2 years of not playing. It was a new years resolution to be playing more golf. At first I was hacking the grass. I needed a "restart". I was talking with my boss at work about my lack of golf skills and how I'm better at wacking weeds and she recommended that her, myself and my brother sign up for winter classes at Redtail. It was like $99 per person so i thought, why not. What a difference the class made. All this time I was hacking all my problems were due to my gripping. Everthing else was a crash course and I quickly redeveloped my game. The teacher recommended that my brother get new clubs as the clubs he had were not fitted for him. The change did make my brother hit better. I'm a better chipper because of the class. The lessons are six lessons but I only took 5. Unfortunatly the last class didn't happen due to communication errors and my brother got the heat for it from the teacher. We told them that we had to cancel and the front desk guy said he would let our teacher know, but apparently that didn't happen. Not a way to end a great experience. read more

I've been coming to Redtail for many years! With the covered range, this is the best place to practice during the cold Oregon winters. The best guy there is Jason Burnett. He fit me for my first set of irons and I've been going to him ever since. I wouldn't trust anyone with my clubs more than Jason - extremely knowledgeable club fitter and wants to get you fit for the best clubs that suit your game/swing. The course can get busy in the summers but they're pretty good about squeezing me in even if I don't have a tee time. read more

The driving range is enormous, on top of it, there are two floors. I love the watering and scrubing buckets for the clubs once you're done. The golf class are very good and highly recommended. The golf course is good, but the wait list to play is very challenging since there are lots of people trying to get in. read more

Great driving range. It is two levels so almost no waiting!!! Also, it is open late so if you get the urge to whack some balls late in the evening you can. The pro shop is well appointed. i did not have an enjoyable round of golf here. The course was not taken care of and the people working there were rude. The player's assistance was constantly hassling us for being "slow" when we were out-pacing most in front of us. We played 9 and after the 9 he asked us if we were playing 18 because our time was "scary slow". I don't know what he was looking at because we were golfing par most holes. I do not recommend this course. Nothing can make up for rude employees that clearly don't care. read more

Red Tail was having a big sales before Christmas and I finally got the green light to replace my driver, 5 wood and bag. So I was excited when my son and I dropped by on the way to Bridgeport Village. One of the sale associates asked what I was looking for and had me go out to the fitting area to warm up..so far so good. After ten min of hitting a 7 iron I hadn't seen anybody so I went in to the shop to look around, when I was asked if I was the one looking for clubs? I said yes and he wanted to know what shaft I wanted to try, I said R flex and he came back with a S shaft and told me to try it. I wasn't sure why he gave me the opposite of what I was interested in, but thought at least I could see the difference. He went back into the store and 15 min later without anybody checking on me, they were not busy, I decided to spend my money elsewhere. I walked out and got a thanks for coming in send off. I guess Red Tail has all the money they need and my 600.00-800.00 dollars was not important. Went to Dicks sporting goods and they were happy to help and take my money. Review is for the fitting as I didn't play. I'm tall (6'5") and swing pretty fast, but only a 17 handicap so I've always had trouble finding clubs that felt right and fit. I went in a few weeks ago and Eric took a ton of time and explained all my options and didn't pressure me to buy a certain brand just had me try tons of different clubs. I went to Redtail to learn how to golf with hopes to impress my partner, who is a very skilled golfer. I received two lessons from Greg Schmid. The first lesson was spent with him helping me figure out if I was right or left handed and him teaching me how to properly hit a ball. Greg was very patient with me and by the end of the lesson, I was able to drive the ball one hundred yards, which I was very impressed with seeing as I've never hit a ball before. The next lesson was spent focusing on impact and how to make sure that I could properly hit the ball every time instead of just swinging and missing or biffing it, which is extremely embarrassing. There were times that I got frustrated because I would miss the ball or hit it wrong, but Greg was great and gave me good tips on how to focus and positions in which I could use to help make sure I hit the ball every time. Overall, it was a great experience and I can't wait to take my next lesson with Greg! read more

I love this course for many reasons. It can always challenge me and helps me become a better player. The staff at the pro shop is super friendly and always helpful. I can't believe Chris remembers my shoe size and favorite colors! Where do you get that kind of service! I've taken lessons for many years from Adam and he's made a huge difference in my game and confidence. He always knows the best way to help me make a change or gain confidence...and it's always fun. The fitting staff and process can't be beat. Redtail has the best technology to really get the right clubs for you. I've had 3 sets of clubs now that have been purchased at Redtail over many years. I have bought three full sets of clubs from Red Tail. Two different Pro's worked with me and both were fantastic. I went back a two years later to updated my driver & 3 wood and had another great experience. They are so wonderful that I don't tell them the brands "I think I want" anymore. I just tell them wood, irons or wedges and they do their magic! I have never been disappointed. 2018 up date; they keep you specs, so when I needed two new wedges I could just call and they shipped the replacement wedges to my door! read more

Course is nice . Fun place to play . As you may read other reviews they have very bad snotty service . Workers act like their shit don't stank. They look at you like your a homeless person. Who are you to judge me, you work here. I'm sure you don't make that much to look down at people. Don't go golf there unless you can over look snotty employees. Oh man I have so many stories to tell but don't want to make review so long. Just avoid this place if possible. Many other courses that are nicer n people actually talk to you like a human being.
