Been here a couple times, damn good food! The restaurant is meticulously clean and the staff is very nice and friendly. When not busy preparing food, staff was cleaning everything, everywhere. Shakes, burgers, onion rings, what more could you want? Tumwater isn't exactly crawling with great places to eat, but the only count against Red Wagon is that they're closed on Sunday's. The bacon and bleu cheeseburger is fantastic. Something about their signature sauce and a heaping pile of red onions brings out the flavor of the meat and crumbled bleu cheese. The fries are fine, sure, but spend the extra couple cents and replace them with onion rings. The batter on their onion rings is fantastic and you definitely won't regret it. As for their shakes: this isn't going to be the fancy fresh fruit shake your diet recommends. These shakes are heavy and flavorful in a way that only sweet syrup can create. Only giving three stars because when asked where to put glass for recycling was told to throw it in the trash. If you like hamburgers, this place is a little expensive but totally worth it! Piled with interesting combinations of condiments and vegetables on top of a juicy angus beef patty, your stomach will thank you. Onion rings were HOMEMADE and delicious. Even though I always have to spend a good five minutes thoroughly looking over the menu, the staff is always courteous and excited to be at work. I've driven past this place dozens and dozens of times, and I'm kicking myself that I hadn't stopped sooner. Don't let the fact that it's in a mini strip mall fool you, this is a hidden gem. I'm not sure why it's called the "Red Wagon", as the decor didn't have any specific theme. The place is well lit, nicely painted and the restrooms are very clean. One thing we did notice was that the Red Wagon has a fairly large menu: several different types of sandwiches, burgers, fish and chips. One of their features are cheesesteak sandwiches, something that a lot of places in the puget sound area always seem to get wrong. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak with peppers, onions and cheese, and a side of fries. My friend ordered a burger and onion rings. We received our food within 10 to 15 minutes, served hot. The cheesesteak was large, but not to the point where it was a mess to eat. The meat was juicy, the peppers and onions were cooked perfectly. Best of all, it wasn't a greasy gooey mess. The fries were hot, crisp, and thicker than the ones other places serve. They have a bit of a batter texture to them, are crisp and not greasy. My friend's hamburger was huge and cooked to order, the vegetables were fresh and went well with the rest of the burger. The onion rings, like the fries, were hot, crisp and has a nice coating on my them, and weren't greasy or mushy. As I mentioned, the portions were very large, and we ended up taking about half of our meals home. They both heated up well, using an oven (leftover sandwiches/burgers never cook well in a microwave), and were a nice treat for lunch the next day. The Red Wagon is a place were are going back to, very soon. I'm looking forward to trying the fish and chips, as there were signs in the place saying how great they are. Great burgers, great philly cheese steaks, great onion rings. I'd give them four stars were it not for two things... First, the bun. Normally I applaud a big soft bun but this one absorbs all the burger juices and is totally mushy at meal's end. And second, the cardinal sin against potatoes has been committed--breaded fries! Why mess with nature's most perfect food, just waiting to be sliced and bathed in oil au natural? I'm super glad I didn't order fish and chips as the "chips" were inedible. My daughter and I stopped by to eat this evening. This was my third time here and it's been months since the last time. The restaurant is filthy. Every table was covered with grease and crumbs. Floor didn't look like it's been cleaned in a while. So many people behind the counter but no one cleaning up tables after customers leave. Paid almost $12 for burger combo with onion rings. 4 skimpy onion rings with one more that was an excuse for an onion ring, and over-cooked. Tasted like they had been sitting for a while. Over priced. Sometimes the onion rings are really good, and other times breading over cooked. Hit and miss. Have had fish and chips in the past too. Sometimes fish over cooked breading. The burgers here are amazing and fries hold their own as well. I had the BBQ Burger and it was top notch. The atmosphere is cool especially on a nice day when you can sit outside and eat. I have never had a bad experience here, so when others have it's more they're issue probably. Mistakes are made I am sure, but patience is a lost thing these days I feel. My wife and I frequent this place. They make the best fish & chips in town and the philly's although not east coast standard are very good also. If you like soggy fries this is not the place for you. The 1 burger I had was good also (spicy blue cheese) quite good, not as good as Red Robin's but still good. There serving size is generous for the most part and price is fair. I'm pretty picky in that I can do better than most restaurants be it an egg or steak and am frequently disappointed with quality and quantity for price. Remember it's a small mom and pop burger joint and don't freak over the small stuff. And use the bell if you wait more than 2 mins, but don't cop a tude over it. read more

I eat here all the time. I haven't had anything bad. Everything is cooked well and tastes great. You also get a lot of food for the money. Now, having said that I wouldn't necessarily classify this as a one $ place. I say it's a little bit more, but you are getting quality and quantity. A burger will fill you up. Also, if you make the mistake of ordering more than a one piece fish and chips, you may not finish it. The only thing negative about it for me is that the used to have Gold Peak tea, but now they have Lipton. Obviously, this is a personal taste, but hopefully the owner sees this and brings it back. :-) read more

Nice place. VERY clean. I was there late and they weren't busy. Just finished the burger. Damn, it was excellent!! Thanks Scott Wood for recommending it. I just had the regular cheeseburger and it was simply great. It comes with onion, lettuce, pickles, and tomato. It's a nice larger burger and extremely tasty. The fries would have been great if they'd been hot. I'll be back and check out other menu items. read more

Food was OK, but not what I was expecting given earlier reviews. The cheesesteak is by no means a classic style - there was some kind of sauce on it that covered the taste of the meat. Portions only so-so. Onion rings were definitely made in-house, but overcooked probably because the onion was sliced thin / not thick. Overall??
