My stop for work shoes. Almost all my working life, I chose jobs where it required me to be mostly on my feet. I just craved movement and action. Now the demands to be on your feet most of the day will eventually start to make demands on your body after a while, if you don't pay attention. For example sore feet/knees at the end of the day, and can even eventually creep into your back if not tended to. Now when you're super young, you don't have to pay too much attention as your body rebounds like crazy. But as you get into your late 20's/early 30's, you better have a better plan on how to take care of the parts that you're using on a daily basis. Enter Red Wing Shoes. I'm pretty sure that 95% of the people that shop here, do it for their work. Which is why you never see kids in here or teenagers for that matter. Many of the shoes here are rugged and durable meant for jobs like warehouses, construction and even commercial kitchens. Many have safety toes, meant to save you if anything heavy happens to land on your foot. They have many where the soles are meant to not slip on slick surfaces. Whatever you're looking for, they can accommodate. I've been getting my work shoes from them for decades. I kinda alternate between here and Beck's Shoes, which is a very similar store. I just prefer this one in my town, because at Beck's, there's more of an upsale that occurs. Where as here, they'll just bring you what you point to, and I like that aspect. I'm rarely in here longer than 10 minutes. The shoes also last a long time... well the exterior. The insoles I've learned you can swap out to maintain arch support, which you can cheaply get through Amazon for a little over $20 bucks. They sell some here also, but they will be closer to $50, but maybe a more durable insole, don't really know. But if I change my insoles every 4-6 months, I can now make one pair of shoes, last easily a year. When back in the past, once the insoles got flattened out, I just thought you got rid of those shoes. A new insight I'm glad I learned and adopted. My only knock with the shoe I like from here, is that when they are brand new, they are very stiff, and need a weeks worth of breaking in. But once broken in, they will contour to the shape of your foot and fit like a glove. Well a glove for the foot. So thanks Red Wing Shoes for keeping me on toes at work. Literally. read more

I've lived in Fremont for a long time. I believe this establishment, right next to Coach's has been here almost, or maybe even longer, than I have been in Fremont. I visited this place for the first time the last few days. I got pulled in with the craftsmanship of the shoes, the materials, and how they're made. They seem like fantastic quality and built the old fashioned way. Quality shoes and boots. Albeit the shoes are mostly designed for rugged work and I have a "sit on your butt all day" office job. But Red Wings does seem to make some shoes that would fly for my kind of role (I counted maybe just a handful). So I visited to see what's up. Joe was incredible. Super nice, super attentive, super knowledgeable. He measured my feet to see what size would work best for my and brought out some shoes in the style that I liked to try on. These shoes feel hefty and Joe explained about how the heat from my feet will allow the leather to mold to the shape of my feet and it'll adapt to me. Furthermore, I wasn't yet ready to take a plug to drop $280+tax for a pair of Chukkas just yet so Joe wrote down the style number, size, and all the details so that I could take my time and order online if I wanted to. No sales pressure at all. Amazing experience. I do plan to order, but dang, this experience was pretty great. I visited Red Wing Shoes in Fremont for the first time because I had to pick up my steel toes for work. I live in San Jose and I have to say the drive was worth it. The two male clerks were extremely helpful from the second I walked in without overwhelming me. They helped me determine which shoe was the best for me and even up-sold me on an insole (I'd been meaning to invest in one anyway) and gave me a personal recommendation. As for the price point, I was satisfied. My company gave me a voucher for my shoes so I was able to get the shoes I wanted and I could still have $ to spare for the insoles. Finally succumbed to peer pressure and got what friends told me were durable, comfortable boots style 6671. Ended up a 1/2 size over what I normally wear but didn't worry about it. A few weeks in and the toes were already wearing through. Spent $40 on tough toe but didn't put it on yet. Fitting was awkward on a folding chair or front of the business. I can't see how these boots are possibly the size they say they are. Each day they are less and less comfortable. I've been using $50 steel toes for years and just replacing them every 6mo. These are less than 6 mo old and that $250 might just as well have gone in the trash. Vibram sole means nothing if I feel a bump under my 4th metatarsal. Looking at these Carefully, I think the leather is shrinking which is making the effective length of the boot shorter. Unfortunately, I can't trim any length of my toes or heels, so I guess I'm just going to have buy but new boots again, way too soon. Save your money. read more

Had the worst experience ever in this store. Tops any experience ever. I guess you have to sacrifice and arm and a leg, AND YOUR SAFETY for this store to honor the Red Wing Guarantee for a pair of boots that didn't meet the Red Wing quality standard. The owner, Joe, aggressively locked myself and all of his customers in the store to help another customer that he was screaming at. It sounded like the customer wanted his boots replaced and the owner had the worst customer service I have ever seen. He violated OSHA by locking us in during business hours. As a bystander, my life was threatened and at risk. This was so incredibly wrong and I can't wait to take it up with corporate. You cannot run a store like this. What a disgrace to the Red Wing name. UPDATE: Owner also argues/defends himself via Yelp with his customers. Violating OSHA AND violating the law by taking hostages has NO EXCUSES. Bought a pair of boots here, because my company provided me with a voucher. After 2 weeks of wearing my work boots I started to feel pain on my big toe, then couple days goes by I'm still wearing my boots and now my toes have a fungal infection! Doctor confirmed it was the boots I've been wearing these past few weeks & that the material might be contaminated! This place needs to take precautions on what they are selling to the customers! Shoes needs to be stored properly in the correct temperature & check the condition before selling to the customers! He was friendly and helpful. After making the purchase I went home and check the price online and I found it cheaper so I decide to return them. When I stop at the store to return the boots I was help by the older guy. He looked upset that I was returning the boots. And after the return transaction I asked if they do price match or why the boots where more expensive at the store comparing online. He starting to go off with a upsetting tone "good for you that you saving 20 dollars online, Don't come to the store to get your boot service. Maybe I'm getting old, but every time I visit a specialty shoe store I can't understand how I have survived without them. This place is no different. It was empty and as soon as I walked in the employee manning the place literally jumped up to say hello to me. After a brief discussion of what kind of requirements my work boots had to meet he showed me the choices I had. Actually he showed me the 4 or 5 shoes that I could not choose, the rest of the store was open to me. The best part was he stood far enough back to let me browse, but close enough to be able to answer any question that I had. The salesman was on point with his answers. Once I had found the work boot that I liked best he had me stand on this cool machine that not only showed my foot size but also showed all the pressure points of how I stand. It was quite impressive to find out all my weight is in my heels and I favor my right foot a lot. Without hesitation he brought out 2 different sizes for me to try on. It turned out the second set was pointless because he already had me try on the pair that fit perfectly. He even set them up so they slipped on easy. At check out he gave me 2 receipts. The first one for me and the second for my reimbursement for work. I didn't even have to ask. All in all I highly recommend this place for all your boot needs, work or otherwise! read more

This is by far the best place I've found to buy work boots. I work in construction, so I need boots that can withstand the abuse I put them through, from winters in the mud 5 days a week to getting concrete all over my boots then getting them soaking wet when I spray them off with a hose. Red Wing boots are a great product, and this store does an excellent job featuring them. The store has a really nice look to it, all the boots are well-organized and on nice stands. The various other products (belts, socks, boot-care products, etc) are also well laid-out and easy to browse throgh. I've bought a couple pairs of boots at this store, and the sales staff is always super nice, helpful, and very knowledgeable about their products. They'll walk you through the various styles of boots they sell and what makes them different. They also do a great job applying the polyurethane toe caps I always buy on my boots. I just had a shoelace snap on me the other day, so I stopped by the store and they replaced the laces for free (free lifetime laces ftw!). I mentioned to them that the toe caps I have on my boots were starting to peel off at the corners. They told me they'd fix it for free, they just needed to keep the boots overnight. The next day I picked up by boots. They re-did the toe caps and rubbed my boots down with conditioner no charge (the guy wouldn't even accept a tip). My year old boots looked great, I wish I had taken before and after pics. This store gets my highest recommendation if you need quality boots. 5 star service and 5 star product! read more

I was in need of a pair of work boots for my new job and had just tried a different Red Wing location a day earlier. I decided to give the Fremont location a call before driving in to determine whether they had a better selection than the first store I visited. After a brief phone conversation with Joe, I immediately knew that I was in the right hands. I told Joe my employer's requirements for the boots (puncture resistant, steel toe, slip resistant, I/75 and C/75 rating, ASTM F-2413-11 listing, etc.) and he not only knew immediately what I needed but was able to narrow it down to 5 style numbers to choose from which fit the description - already a better selection than what I had been told at the other location. Joe was able to tell me what all these terms meant in layman's terms - and why the puncture resistant requirement was what narrowed down the list the most. Just from our brief phone conversation I knew it would be worth the ~30 minute drive from my place to go see Joe in person to get the right pair of boots. When I arrived, Joe was extremely professional, efficient, knowledgeable, and most importantly, his customer service was exceptional. I could tell that he actually cared - and he listened to everything his customers had to say. The process was quick as Joe knew exactly what he was doing, despite him taking care of multiple other customers simultaneously. Not to mention that it was a very hot day AND we're still in this covid pandemic - which, by the way, Joe and his coworkers more than satisfied any coronavirus related guidelines. I'm very happy with my work boots that I bought today, but I'm happier with your customer service, and I wish you continued success at your Fremont location - you deserve it. Visited this shop on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. First impressions was that it was very clean, organized and since doors were open , it felt very airy. The gentlemen who assisted was very professional and explained details of foot placement and stress points. I swear I wish customer service ppl was as helpful, organized and professional as he was. Although I thought it was busy (I think maybe 4 groups were in this store, he said this was very little. He said sometimes it's standing room only. Terrible customer service. My husband had a pair of Red Wings he loved and were comfortable (made in the USA). He bought another pair, just like them, but they killed his feet. He noticed the new ones were made in Vietnam. He took them back and tried talking to the salesperson about possibly getting another pair, made in the USA, and the guy could have cared less. The salesperson said he could go look at the shoes or get a refund. My husband got a refund. He also had a pair of Red Wings repaired and when he picked them up, the person argued he had not paid for the repair. My husband had to argue back he did indeed pay for the boots when he bought the second pair. Disappointing as he would have gladly bought a pair of these boots, but no one seemed to care. read more
