We decided to get some lunch here the day of an EXO concert at Prudential. Having walked by a few times we decided to try. Having been there only once I'm not sure this was just a bad day or if it's the usual. Our waitress was quite unfriendly and seemed in a rush, even though there were only a few small groups in the restaurant. My two friends and my mother all ordered the Weiner Schnitzel, which they said was just okay. On the other hand, I ordered the Pretzel Chicken Schnitzel which came completely burnt. Came here to eat/kill some time before the Seton Hall game. Redd's has an awesome location, directly next to the Prudential. I was pleasantly surprised overall with Redd's Biergarten. Started off with Bavarian Soft Pretzel that came with a cheddar mustard dipping sauce. I really enjoyed this appetizer, not so much for the pretzel itself but more so for the dipping sauce! The cheddar mustard sauce was really yummy and unique. The pretzel was huge and I loved the presentation of it but it was pretty average in taste. It wasn't really soft but it was still enjoyable because of that dipping sauce. I had the Caraway and Garlic Roasted Loin of Pork sandwich, which came on a pretzel broche roll topped with sauerkraut and melted swiss cheese with a side of fries. The sandwich was very hearty with a lot of meat, they gave a generous portion. It was topped with a ton of sauerkraut and cheese and pretty delicious. I did think it was a tad bit dry but they gave you a side of honey mustard with it so that solved that problem. I think it can be a little confusing at first for a newbie (like myself) when you get to Redd's, they don't make it entirely clear how the process works. For us, we sat at the bar and ordered our beer and food through the bartender, we're given a pager and went and picked up the food when it was ready. I do notice a lot of people say they ordered the food themselves at the window but we were not subjected to that during our visit. Absolutely appalling. This place is 100% NOT COVID COMPLIANT. I went yesterday for some dinner and drinks with a few friends and we were quickly surrounded by 100s of college kids none of who were wearing masks. We asked to speak to the owners and they addressed the situation with the upmost unprofessionalism and ended up asking us to leave. They said that they have a million dollar loan to pay and cater to the college students. They would rather break the law and risk every one of those college kids lives, and their families lives, then comply with the law. They defended themselves and told us we were wrong and mean. The "manager" did not approach us with a mask on until we pointed that out to them. I could not have felt more disgusted or uncomfortable. Would never return, COVID or not. read more

Solid beer selection, super loud music, average food. Happy hour has a decent selection of basic beers/wines for $5 and some finger food. The pretzel was good, but not the best biergarten pretzel I have ever had, but the chicken wings and fingers could have been better. "Jumbo" wings they were not and $5 for 5 small wings or 5 small fingers isn't exactly the best deal. Drink lots of beer first and I'm sure the food will taste amazing over time. I want to like this place, as it's one of the few bars around the Prudential Center. However, be careful when you plan to check this place out. I tried to go at midnight on a Thursday (and was pleasantly surprised by the upbeat crowd). This was quickly ruined when the manager told us they were closed. When I questioned their posted hours on their website, Google, and Yelp - the manager told us, "I have the discretion to close the bar." Went after a sold out concert. Not only was the bar understaffed, the employees were plain rude and completely ignored people they looked dead in the face. Yes they were overwhelmed but their attitude and demeanor was unacceptable. Got a beer that couldn't even be filled up to the top. To be understaffed on a Saturday, let alone a Saturday with a sold out concert is crazy. The only saving grace was the food and even the order was messed up. read more

I visited for lunch on a Wednesday with a group of 9 other co-workers who were visiting from Washington. Although I work nearby, none of us had been here before and it was a spontaneous decision. There is no on the street parking so you most likely have to park in a paid lot. It's steps from the Prudential Center. It's a large restaurant with a large bar on the right and a small bar on the left when you walk in. Very open with lots of picnic tables for seating. Tremendous selection of beers. The menu is large and consists of lots of German specialties. Our table began with a couple of Bavarian Pretzels and an order of the Redd's calamari. The Bavarian pretzels were huge and tasty. They were big enough for 2-3 people. The calamari was a decent size portion. The calamari appeared to be fresh and not frozen. Tasty with a little spice to it. For my meal, I had the "Adam's Grilled Chicken." I was a bit disappointed with it. The chicken consisted of two small thin breasts that were very dry. The veggies were fresh and not frozen. The spaetzle was fried and tasty. Overall, the portion was decent. A few of my co-workers had the burgers and one of them had the frankfurter which was huge and fat. The burgers looked great and nobody complained. The prices were very reasonable. The service was good and friendly. One of my co-workers and I returned for happy hour later that day. If you're ordering food during happy hour, I would stick to the regular menu. When we ordered the Bavarian pretzel again, it was a normal size pretzel you would see at a supermarket. We were expecting the huge one again for half the price. We ordered chicken wings and it only came with 4 in a basket. Again we expected more. I must admit the wings were tasty. I had the Sam Smith Organic Strawberry Ale which was cold and tasty. A great change from a regular ale. My co-worker had the Spaten Octoberfest. She loved it. We will be back for sure. read more

Great beer selection, the onion rings are the best we've had in a long time, and I can't say enough good things about their customer service. Our man Calvin anticipates everything we need even if the place is super packed. And speaking of super packed, it's probably because this place has good vibes. Great place! We haven't been here yet, but have been to the one in New Brunswick a few times and enjoy it, so decided to stop in before a concert at the Pru Center. It was PACKED!! And LOUD! Understandably so... there had to have been over a hundred people inside. Luckily, a group stood up and we slid into their spot. We moved some of their trays over and waved down a server. She took our order, wiped our table and then let us know she wasn't our server, but would put the order in for us and let our server know we were there, and gave us our servers name. Even though we weren't in her section, it was nice she took everything down for us instead of getting our server - very refreshing! Our server brought our drinks over 5 minutes later and our meal not much long after ... we were expecting to wait for a long time and were surprised we did not. I'm sure we were lucky and got the tail end of the crowd, but the servers and cooks were all still hopping! All of the wait staff was very friendly and our food came out just as we ordered. We had some confusion over which beer belonged to who - it was very noisy and we couldn't hear the server when she dropped the drinks off. But she came back immediately and cleared it up. As a beer lover, I was excited to see a beer garden come into Newark. Redd's is located in premier restate, right next to prudential center in the heart of downtown Newark. It's has a classy aesthetic with a not too ornate entrance. Draft selection could be better but I am happy with their bottle craft beers the have in stock. Food was less than average in my opinion. I order at currywurst and fries. The fries were cold, seemed like they could have been heated up or where sitting under a warmer. The currywurst was more like a hot dog. All in all, you want authentic European beer garden food, with cool and authentic draft beers, this isn't the place. But if you are in the area, a tad hungry and wouldn't mind a refreshing Hoegaarden on tap to wash it down, This will do just fine. read more

Redd's is a new restaurant to the Newark Downtown across the street from the Prudential Centers. Two Large open bars on either side of there main seating area. They have a large assortment of beers on tap and bottled. If you love beer you will have to visit. In the middle of the bars they have large picnic benches for larger groups and families.I did not like that when you order your food you are given a electronic buzzer that goes off when your food is ready to be picked up. I had two weiss beer draft and their chicken fingers (which were so large they were like legs) the dipping suase was honey mustard and was mostly mustard. This look like it will fill the bill for family and friends who want a drink and a something to eat before an event and want a more casual and relaxed atmosphere. Going through some growing pains I can tell. The food window apologized for the delay taking our order when we were the only people waiting. The jukebox has too wide a variety of music. The place has an overall feel of being in Newark. It doesn't transport me anywhere. The inside is bigger than I expected. The big pretzel was buttery, but the sauce was mediocre. The beer selection can't be beat in Newark. It'll get better as the work things out and I'll write an update in the future.
