It's great to see a place like this open in Newark and I hope they can succeed long term. I came here on a Saturday night a week after it opened and there are some growing pains for sure. For example, the bar tender wasn't sure what glass to use for each beer and the buzzer system didn't work when my food was done. However, I'm sure these are kinks that will be worked on and solved soon. As for positives- the places has a wide beer selection. The picnic style tables are perfect for hanging out with a group of friends. My burger was great and we ended up spending a few hours here after dinner. Redd's is a pretty solid pre-game sports bar. We only come here on Devils game day, so can't speak to normal business days. The food is usually pretty good and the prices aren't bad considering that it is right in front of the arena. Worst part about this place is fighting to get to the bar and waiting; a few more bartenders could help speed things up. Best part is that you can drink until the game queues lighten up and be in your seat for the puck drop! read more

Redd's is a new resturant to the Newark Downtown scene. Large open bar, with two bar stations. If you love beer you will have to visit. Family style seating. You order your food and then are given a electronic buzzer that goes off when your food is ready to be picked up. It felt some what like I was in a cafeteria. I tried the ribs that was not a good idea the ribs were dry and did not fall of the bone like I like. Stick with the burgers. I will try Redd again. read more

Went Saturday night before Bon Jovi at the Pru. The bartenders were great and very attentive. Had 3 beers and the Pulled Pork Sandwich. It made me terribly sick. Not too sure which was saltier, the appetizer or the bartender. We went in to try this spot out, and went for happy hour, which is 7 days a week. There were about 5 other people in the whole place, and its a big place. The bartender could not seem any less interested and aloof. Yawn. Shouldn't a bartender have a personality? Finally, 0 for the chef who wanted to up charge us for a taste of the sauerkraut that we were supposed to have gotten instead of the sugary cabbage we did get - after we'd asked for nothing with sugar. It was a kindness to have sent out extra veg to compensate for that cabbage. Would have been better to have gotten the kraut. I was done with the endless back and forth of the meal (asked if the entree was breaded we were told it wasn't. But it was, plus the other issues) so I ate what was in front of me. Minus the cabbage. And then I made the mistake of asking for a taste of the sauerkraut. Nein! That vill be extra! I'm laying a lot of the blame on the server who could not get anything about our orders right. But all I wanted was a taste of what we'd ordered in the first place. Not an extra order for free. No scam. Just neighborhood first-timers in on a night where nothing was going in at the Pru Center and hoping to get an idea of the restaurant's different offerings. It's​ one thing to have an incompetent server. But between the hassles with the food and the chef's disinterest in setting things straight we doubt we'd have a materially better experience in the future. So we won't be back. If they get your order right, it should be okay. We didn't think it was worth the price after all was said and done, but it's not _bad_. It's the service that killed it for us. read more

Food is good. That's all. The hofbrau original beer was flat. The mugs were hot that beer was poured into. Priority was given to people that "the owner knew". This was a devils game night. Any other night I wouldn't have a thing to say but game night are usually a no rules type of thing. No reservations. But apparently if you know the owner you can reserve seating. Mind you this seating remained reserved for the two hours prior to the game and was still reserved as I walked out of the establishment and across the street to the game. Very unhappy. read more

Fantastic. Tremendous beer selection served by knowledgeable staff and barkeeps. Very spacious which is nice since other nearby places are cramped and crowded. Great place to watch a game or pre-game before Devils or concert. Also a great set up for live music. As for food...the wings rock and that's all you need to know (and all my big belly could handle). So... This place has only been open for about a week but already I'm very impressed. I stumbled along this bar thinking that they were still under construction, the door looked a little foggy and the sign with the specials were inside. Anyway, this place is extremely spacious, spotless and embodies every idea that comes to mind when you think of a German bar. They have so many exotic German beers that are on tap and in bottle and local breweries on tap as well. This restaurant has two bars opposite from each other. In the middle of the two bars are park like benches fit for a large family/friends outings. It does feel like your in a indoor beer garden! The general manager Pat was sensational! Super passionate about his restaurant and so knowledgable on all of the many beers in the restaurant. I loved the gschofferhofer grapefruit beer!! So refreshing and summery. The food was okay. The burger was a little too charred for my taste and I wasn't crazy about the sweet fries but the full bar and beer option kept me a happy camper. The crowd is a mix crowd of many young professionals that love beer. My overall experience was a great one and I look forward to becoming a check-in regular at Redds. read more

My husband and I went here before an early afternoons Devils game. If you plan to grab a bite here before a game I would suggest coming early! The wait for a drink was very long. We ordered and shared an enormous beer which made for some fun photos. It also saved us from getting in line for the bar again which was nice!!! We shared a burger which was big and tasty. We also shared some chicken strips which weren't bad either. I really wish we had tried the giant pretzels I saw others enjoying. They looked amazing. read more

if this app had nora 0 i would have put zero. I made a simple order. 1 hamburger, 1 chicken fingers and 1 mac and cheese. Mac & cheese and chicken fingers for my kids came with 3 fried mac & cheese dumplings, never in my city saw this, my daughter spent the night hungry because she didn't want to eat. a simple Mac & cheese from 1.00 from the supermarket would be better. and the chicken fingers came 1 chicken tenders cut into ledacos and a bunch of fries. This was hard for me. I really wish there was a "half" option. But i veered towards a 4 for a reason. First I appreciated the attention provided by the hostesses to ensure I find a seat and settle in. Since I was there for a quick lunch, i opted for the bar. The bar attendants immediately came and assisted me in choosing a sausage sandwich. I ended up selecting the weissurst (big mistake). When the sausage sandwich arrived i was taken aback by the fact that this sausage was white as paper. Totally weird for me as it was meant to be white since it was a Bavarian sausage (shrugs...my lesson in German cuisine). Well to no surprise. I was not a fan. The texture was very rubbery and the only reason I ate it was because I drenched it with mustard and sauerkrat. With that said I do not recommend the weisswurst. Because of the impeccable customer service I will definitely be back and most likely select and well cooked sausage with their delicious fries as well as their pretzels (cant go wrong with that). read more

So far so good. This may be my new home. With great anticipation for us to finally not have to travel to the city for Biergarten's I patiently waited for this one to open. So leaving a nearby restaurant I walked by and went to see if there was anyone inside to ask when they expected to open. To my surprise I guess I didn't get the memo. The beer was flowing like a open spring in Poland (Poland Springs...get it?....) anyways we walked in and the set up was amazing it was very clean the colors the pictures on the walls the tables everything all tied in very well and gave it that German feel. They have two very large bars opposite from each other. Two huge eating areas. One is secluded from the bars I'm guessing for more of a family feel so that you can still enjoy your dinning without the bar atmosphere. They have a large beer selection from draft to bottles. All of which taste very crisp and refreshing. The food was ok it may just be a work in progress. However staff was very nice very attentive and the GM Pat was super welcoming. He seemed to have done alot of homework on what they selected and is was very informative. The Will absolutely be on my regular list. read more

Meh. It's alright, I missed the boat with all the Oktoberfest type activities and I had been rcraving some German food and beer. Came here on a whim, menu seemed pretty decent and the prices were average. Of course we started with a typical Oktoberfest type beer and large pretzel. Both were excellent, although that's about all that was good. My boyfriend ordered a cheesy beer soup and some sort of mustard sauce chicken, which he asked for the sauce on the side. I ordered a spicy cheese brat with spätzle and potato pancakes. When my boyfriends chicken came it was obviously covered in sauce and he told them again he wanted it on the side. They took it back and then came out saying they couldn't cook it without sauce. Ok no big deal, just tell us in the first place.. So then he ended up getting fish and chips which were ok. He didn't get his soup until after we were halfway done with the entrees. We thought they just forgot but I guess better late than never. My brat was hardly spicy or cheesy.. The spätzle was on the dry side but the potato pancakes were pretty decent. I guess if your coming to this spot before a game(right across from prudential center) it's a decent place to get some beers and apps but if your looking for authentic German cuisine this will sadly disappoint. read more

In one word: overpriced! Just shy of $20 for two IPAs! I'm from Seattle, the land of overpriced beer...but this place takes it to a whole new level. Additionally, I was scolded by the bartender for bringing in a snack-sized bag of potato chips that contained no more than a dozen chips. I'd already had dinner and just wanted beer, but I had with me a small bag of chips from the flight I'd just come in on and figured it would help to wash down the beer. The bartender tells me no outside food allowed and I need to be more discrete. Says it very loudly so the other customers hear it. Embarrassing. Wow...I totally understand no outside food...but it's not as if I brought in a full meal from another place, or a full sized bag of potato chips from the grocery store. This was an amazing place with great beer, great food, and great service. They even played music from the concert I was about to see which I imagine wasn't their usual choice but my party and I really appreciated the touch! In addition to this, I was in a tough spot and the manager graciously helped me out even when he had no obligation to. The atmosphere is awesome, both family-friendly and bar fun at the same time in the same place. If you haven't been here, put it at the top of your list. This is a wonderful Biergarten and their selections are abundant. Each beer is served cold and in its unique mug/stein based upon the beer you ordered. Our server, Ashley, was a wonderful server and her smile and warm service made it hard to leave as she was a pleasure to have and I even went back that night for dinner (wonderful German selections) and requested her again. This place has plenty of seating and two full bars across from each other. Just be careful and watch the New Jersey Devils hockey schedule as home or away games; this place will be packed! - They also offer a great happy hour so check out their website for times and specials. This place has an identity crisis, the food is terrible and extremely over priced. The only thing that was decent is the beer, beyond that this experience was a rip off. They present themselves as German but play Spanish music, very weird. Potato pancakes were like McDonalds hash browns, the oinon rings were soggy, the Brats looked like cocktail weenies on cold wet toast and the chicken in the wrap looked like a rubber and it was overloaded with lettuce to make it look worth the outrageous price . You have to fetch your own meal from the kitchen counter served in cardboard. $89 for three people, total rip off. Not recommend at all unless you are a drunk. Never again. read more

Okay so .... there was a devils game this Tuesday 3/16 and they basically kicked us out before 11 because they wanted to go home. Their hours are clearly stated when searched as 2am. I came to this bar 3/2 also on a Tuesday after a devils game and there was no problem they let us stay past 10:00pm. Was it because they had business that night and tonight was slow sure, maybe. But don't pour me a liter of beer at 9:45 and then kick me at out 10 and claim you close according to New Jersey state law when last Tuesday it was fine. It seemed rushed and unpleasant. If I wanted to chug a liter of beer in 15 minutes I'd go to a a college bar or just home. Bad look for redds. Understand it is covid but don't drastically change your policies on closing from one Tuesday to another in the same month. Also everyone was socially distant can you let me finish the beer I paid for at least?? Or tell me it's closing at 10 when me and 5 friends order liters. Thanks. read more
