    Pork belly
    Kristina J.

I will preface this review by stating that I am a complete novice when it comes to different styles of barbecue. But what I do know is good food and Redemption BBQ has some GOOD food. When you walk into this restaurant it feels very quaint. They have 3 tables inside and a few outdoor seating options overlooking the parking lot. Do not let this discourage you, the menu has all of the solid options and amazing sides. I have been twice now and have been able to try their collard greens, mac and cheese, baked beans, cole slaw, corn muffins and fries. My favorites have been the collard greens, corn muffins and their praise the lard fries. Oh my goodness are the fries delicious. They put other fries to shame. Their meats are perfection, I have gotten to enjoy their pork belly and burnt ends both absolutely delicious in their own right. The prices also felt extremely fair for the quality. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the service. Amber, who was working the front of house, was an absolute delight. Not only did she offer us complimentary iced tea, but she was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I was genuinely impressed when she remembered me from my first trip, it's clear that they make a real effort to create a welcoming, family-like atmosphere. I also love that Redemption BBQ is committed to sustainability. Everything from the containers to the cups is compostable, so you can enjoy your meal knowing that the restaurant is doing its part to be environmentally conscious. Just wow! I can't recommend this place enough, the food is outstanding, the service is top-notch, and the values are equally amazing. It is so hard to find places that have such amazing qualities but the Redemption BBQ fits the bill. I can't wait to frequent this spot for my BBQ fix.

Small, tasty lil bbq spot conveniently located off of Lauderdale next to Brunches. I was pleasantly pleased to find out they have Chicago deep dish pizza here, frozen to take home or preordered for warmth. The bbq is very flavorful as well as their sauce selection. The sizes of the portions looked smaller than they actually were, definitely was enough by the end of the meal, we left there fat and happy! Service was great and pleasant. Definitely will keep this spot in my rotation for bbq!

If you're in the Richmond area or visiting the area this is a must try. I paid a visit to this restaurant while visiting Richmond on business. I was immediately blown away by the amazing BBQ aroma of the restaurant when you first walk in. I was promptly greeted and offered a complimentary sweet tea with my meal. I decided to try the pork belly sandwich that was served with slaw and I opted to get a side of their macaroni & cheese. Everything was superb and truly delicious.

I've been meaning to try this based on the amazing reviews. My experience was a little mixed. I didn't realize that it is primarily a to-go market style place. There are 2 small 2-top tables inside and a couple outside. We pushed the inside ones together and ate there (3 of us). We ordered a brisket sandwich with fries, small ribs with fries and a pastrami sandwich. The food took a little longer to come out than I expected, maybe it's the fries. I enjoyed the flavor and texture of the brisket sandwich and my husband really liked the pastrami. He thought it was some of the best pastrami he's tried. My daughter didn't enjoy the ribs at all; they were tough and dry. I think they may have been overcooked. They asked her how she likes the ribs and she just said fine; she would have killed me if I said anything. I'm sure they would have tried to make it right. We tried all 6 sauces and I liked 2, but none quite as much as a couple local bbq places. I thought the fries had a good flavor. They were a little over cooked for my liking. They offer free iced tea while you wait, which is a nice touch. Staff was friendly.

Ordered online where it indicated a 20 minute wait - just a redemption burger and collared greens. Immediately after ordering it gave me a pick up time 45 minutes later. Arrived 15 minutes early hoping it was a small order and it would be ready as is often the case. Was told it would be another 20 minutes. Over 30 minutes later got my food. Definitely call if ordering don't use the website. As for the burger/cost? Totally underwhelmed.

    Chicago style cheese steak.

Review caveat: I am completely biased towards eastern North Carolina barbecue. Chopped, flecked with red pepper, sharp vinegar flavor. Is Redemption's pulled pork delicious? Yes. Is it worthy of a feature in Southern Living? Er, maybe. The restaurant only makes a claim of award winning Virginia style barbecue. And that's a style wide enough to drive a truck hauling a smoker through. Last Saturday I was going to make tacos. But my 83 year old mom saw Redemption's Facebook post about their cheese steak special. So I placed an online order and went to pick it up. (Points for ease of ordering.) Redemption is in a strip mall not far from where I went to elementary school, down a few doors from Vinny's, which is a whole nother review. Pick up was easy. It's a cute little place with not many tables, but apparently the iced tea is free. Tables were occupied by people who appeared to be waiting for pick up orders. Driving home, it occurred to me that I couldn't really smell the food. I had ordered fries, which are prepared using tallow. They were ok but left a slightly unsettling aftertaste. This is significant because in all of my years driving with fries, it was the first time all but one of the fries made it home. I'm not sure what mom expected from the sandwich. I've never been to Chicago, so my familiarity with a cheese steak with giardina (requested mild) and provolone was limited. It was too spicy for her, and the sandwich was dry. Bread was fresh tasting. We got sides of collards, potato salad and corn muffins. Potato salad was quite tasty. Collards were spicy. I'll just say that these weren't like my southern grandmothers' greens. Sides are inexpensive but portions are small/adequate. I tried the corn muffin and punted, mom (herself a cornbread-maker) said she could taste the corn meal and pronounced them a good, non-sweet accompaniment. The pulled pork was very good. Tender, juicy, not fatty. It did not have a strong smoky flavor. I put vinegar on it, but it was still just pulled pork. The sauce provided was way too sweet for me. But, lots of people will love that. I will need to return and try a few more dishes. But my experience made me long for a trip to Rocky Mount (NC) and some good old chopped barbecue, chicken slick, and a few hush puppies.

Redemption is high quality Virginia style BBQ. The service is very friendly and are always pleasant to do business with. The y offer some unique items such as hoe cakes and Chicago style pizza along with a variety of different types and flavors of pies. The make their own sauces which are all tasty so it's always difficult to choose. The store is open and clean with just a few small tables. So they are mainly a pickup and takeout restaurant. Everything is homemade, home cooked and delicious. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

Between two people, we ordered drinks and Billy's seafood platter to share, which consisted of shrimp that you can choose the style of, fried cod and catfish, with hush puppies and cole slaw. We got the bang bang shrimp and they were on point. They were definitely our favorite thing on this platter with the size, texture, and flavor all hitting the mark. The two sides hush puppies and cole slaws were also good. The two fried fish was a little underwhelming, with the cod being a little under-seasoned and dry. The catfish was seasoned well and soft but had that sort of slightly fishy flavor to it. I liked having multiple sauces both on the platter and the table (there were a bunch of different bbq sauces, which I'm sure go better with their meat offerings) - the butter and the zing of the North Carolina hot sauce were our top two sauces of the meal. Definitely enough food for two people but I wish there was a bit more on there than just the cole slaw to suppress the greasiness of the fried fish. Service was great and they have a good sized parking lot as well. Can't say anything about their bbq since we had the fish platter but as soon as you get to the parking lot, you can smell the fire going!

I wanted to try their food, so I went to their website and saw that I could get $5 off for my first online order, so I went ahead and clicked on that offer. I loaded up my cart and attempted to checkout. I received an error message stating that the system could not "create a POS transaction" or something to that effect. I assumed that I had made some sort of error entering my information or CC number. I reviewed my order and checkout instructions and tried again. I received the same error message about 3 more times, even after logging out and logging back in and trying to reload the cart and reenter all of my CC information a few more times. I switched from my phone to my laptop and continued to try and place an order, to no avail. I received the same response each time regardless of the method and information. I began to wonder if the $5 off coupon was the "issue". When my multiple attempts failed, I decided to call place my order or at least let them know of the issue. That was a huge mistake. They use an AI system to take calls and it gives limited choices. When I explained my issue to the AI bot, it immediately sent a text link to my phone, while I am still talking to the bot. It said, "the best way to order is to visit our website and I will send you a link now", then my phone pings with the link. The link was directly back to the same exact broken website. Completely useless !!! I decided to call again and request to speak to ( imagine this) a real LIVE person. Ha...right? Like that was going to happen. So the bot gives the option of "Manager", so that is what I requested. It played some music for a few seconds, then returned to inform me that all of their staff were "busy" at the moment and proceeded to end the call after thanking me for WASTING my time. I attempted to call a couple of more times thinking that eventually someone would be available to (get this) speak to a customer, which resulted in the same frustrating ending. After about an 45 minutes of this complete nonsense, I decided to go to another BBQ place about 3 miles from this restaurant. I ordered the food in about 4 minutes online. In about 30 minutes I was back at home enjoying a wonderful BBQ meal with ribs, pulled pork and even some catfish with great homemade sides. So if you would like to order a good meal online with no hassles, avoid this place. The very least they could do is ANSWER THE PHONE.

We ate the Gooey Butter Cake, Bourbon Vanilla Creme Brûlée, & the white chocolate peanut butter Oreo cookie ice cream. The Goody Butter Cake tasted amazing, but a big portion able to be shared. After having a bad experience at another restaurant, Jacob & Hanen really made our night with amazing customer service, great recommendations, exceptional knowledge of the chef and the restaurant's menu, and held great conversations! Thank you to them both for their quick delivery service. Great hirers and smiles! Thank you again Jacob & Hanen! The restaurant had a night time, small cozy warm feel. It had a great to know that the history was it was original a sports club before being turned into this elegant place. We stayed at the hotel, so unfortunately do not know the parking situation. Thank you! Good for higher end casual dining!

Moody lighting and lamps for each table sets the tone for intimate and private-type dining. The host & manager were friendly. We got inconsistent service from our server. Not sure she wanted to be there considering it was a holiday, or if she had stuff going on personally. Regardless, she did her best. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our food. From the Burrata recommendation to our ruffle bucatini and halibut dishes and finishing it off with the gooey butter cake, they all were delicious with not complaints! Definitely recommend.

This is an American food restaurant and neighborhood bar so it's popular in the area. There's a Greek restaurant in the same shopping center that is one of my favorite lunchtime places for quality food at a good price, so I see Toast from time to time when I'm picking up takeout. We arrived around 2 p.m., so after the lunch rush. They do a good brunch on the weekends, but I wasn't in the mood for breakfast and brunch so I made sure they were serving the lunch menu. We ended up just sitting at the bar. They had golf on the tv so my husband could watch while we were chatting. For drinks we ordered a margarita and an old fashioned. They were as expected. For our meals, my husband ordered the crab and shrimp,p nachos, which surprised me. He's a salmon fan so I thought he'd go that route for his meal but he said he really enjoyed the nachos. I got the Thai salad with ahi tuna. My salad was just what I wanted...healthy and tasty. Toast is definitely a great restaurant and if I lived nearby, I'd be here on a regular basis.

When driving home nearby from a weekend in Bath Co., we stopped in for lunch. We called ahead to make sure they were open and they had a table all set up for my husband and I and our 19-month old daughter - with a cute plate, little baby spoon, and highchair ready for her. Our waitress was so nice and the sweet tea was delicious. This is Southern granny cooking just like my grandma made when I was a child. You can order single plates but the best deal is their family-style for $23 a person with black-eyed peas, green beans, stewed tomatoes, biscuits and corn bread, mashed potatoes and gravy and fried chicken with one other protein - we chose pot roast and it was soft and delicious. I wanted dessert - but it was so filling we had to skip although all their pies sounded wonderful. This is a historic old log cabin-type building with plenty of tables inside and they were super nice and low-key for us and our baby. Food was out almost instantly and everything was delicious. Will make sure to stop here again whenever we're driving through from Virginia Beach! Happy to have found it.

When you arrive at this historic destination - you're met with a cozy restaurant that feels both rustic and homey with a waitstaff that is friendly and helpful. While you can order individual plates, we came with a group and opted for the all you can eat lunch. Sides ranged from stewed tomatoes to black eye peas. Everything was seasoned well and full of flavor. For main dishes we were served fried chicken, pot roast, and pulled pork. All were amazing. If you have a sweet tooth - be sure to save room for dessert. The cobbler was delicious and a perfectly warming end to a wonderful meal shared with friends.
