I came in specifically to try their apple fritters. They're big big for 2.50. I like that they're doughy but needed more apples and cinnamon. The glaze is pretty thick. I ordered Red's Donuts to the front desk of the InterContinental Hotel as a gift for the staff. I was very clear on the message of a note to be attached. I received a confirmation for $96 for two dozen donuts, which included a delivery fee, drivers insurance fee, healthy gratuity, etc. I didn't care about the cost, I just wanted the donuts delivered with the note. So, after I got a text saying they were delivered, I called to check. The number on the receipt, Alvarado Street, said the order would be fulfilled by the Seaside location. I called there, and the woman who identified herself as the "manager" and "in charge of all orders" had no clue. Only when I walked her through it, did she find it and the disappointment in her voice could be heard 3,000 miles away when she said "Oh, that's Yelp/Grub Hub, that's their problem" I told her: "no, ma'am. It's your product." Then she proceeded to tell me the percentage of the sale Grub Hub takes, which is not only none of my business, but her problem, not mine. Well, obviously the hotel never got my note (she gave me the drivers phone number, who confirmed) this so the hotel received 2 dozen donuts and didn't know why. MORAL OF THE LONG STORY: If you want to send donuts as a gift, DON'T. The recipient will never know its from you. MORAL #2: Some retailers have a chip on the shoulder about Grub Hub, Door Dash, and all the rest. Beware. No my best YELP experience. I picked Red's based on them and they were the only donut store with an ORDER HERE button. The product I am told is good, but that manager is not a manager: She has no idea what is going on in her store and she has a lousy attitude. Visit Red's first location too, on Alvarado Street in Monterey. Both locations are friendly places to be. Monterey location 6 AM to about 1 PM while Seaside is open until about 3 PM. Established in 1950. Maple Bars, cinnamin rolls and sprinkle donuts are my favoites STILL, at age 76. I started going to Red's with my Grandpa when they first opened. Very nostalgic feel because it has been around since 1950....looks like the same place. Great donuts....nice staff. Lots of families when we visited. We had cinnamon roll, glazed buttermilk and a maple bar. All were great.....they have old fashion stools and a bar. The do have bagels for those who don't want a donut. Old funny pictures on the wall. The parking lot is a bit tight but it works. Great place. In fact if there was such a thing as a "dive donut shop" this is it! While we were in town I was reading Yelp to see what the best local mom & pop places were and I came across Red's Donuts. We came on a Monday (little after lunch). The parking lot in front of the shop is tight so drive carefully :) Inside its very retro- cute counter area with old fashioned vinyl swivel seats. The staff is friendly. As a side note they no longer serve sandwiches. We did try the old fashioned chocolate & the glazed raised. Both were good but the old fashioned chocolate was great :) The owner of the shop was joking with us and said (in regards to my hubby's car) - "You own a hybrid. You can afford a dozen." So they have a special on Mondays $5 for a dozen. We would have liked to try more, but a dozen seemed like too much sugary goodness for us (even though it was a good deal). My favorite donut in the world is at Komoda Bakery on Maui- 'Donut on a Stick' which nothing else can compare. I would liken Red's Donuts Old Fashioned w/ Chocolate Frosting to that of my favorite donut at Komoda Bakery on Maui- something delish, not a common find. Yes, there are many places that make donuts but there are very few that make delicious donuts. I came to try out Red's Donuts based on the awesome reviews I saw on Yelp. We arrived on Sunday around 11:30am. The parking lot in front was small, but there were plenty of open spaces. We tried: -Original glazed (Good, but a little bit too sweet for me) -Cinnamon roll (Nice and cinnamony, and this was HUGE) -Glazed French donut/cruller (Ditto to what Glenn L. said, I thought it was a bit on the soggy/wet side, and too airy) -Chocolate covered old fashioned (I did not like this at all, and thought the chocolate had a strange flavor. However, take my opinion with a grain of salt since I'm not a fan of old fashioned donuts). Overall, I thought most of the donuts were good, but I had set my expectations too high. Some of the donuts had a nice chewy/fluffy consistency, so if you enjoy that texture definitely check out Red's. read more

So I've been hearing about these donuts, how good they are they're the best donuts blah blah blah. It has a sign on the outside window and on the website saying Monday and Tuesday it's $5 a dozen well that isn't true! Even just a half dozen is over $7! Well to be honest these donuts are not even that good, they're WAY too sweet you can barley get through half a donut and they don't have the greatest taste neither. This place is great! In all my years I never knew you could put hot Cheetos on a bagel. My god that was good!!! Always fresh and the selection changes each day. The French donuts are the best, light and fluffy, not too sweet. They also serve coffee and other breakfast items. Coffee seemed a lil weak for me but I've been on a cold brew kick lately so that may have distorted my taste. Really surprised to see the reviewer who gave one star and thought it prudent to identify the nationality of the new owners. I've been here twice now, and I just don't get the love. The friendly service is the best part. The donuts are average - in fact, not as good as Winchell's. They're very small compared to any other donut place, and they're on the dry side the day they were made. Not tasty in any way. The chocolate tastes like it doesn't actually have chocolate in it.
