A wonderful place if you want some American fare in Ithaca! Nice decor, featuring pictures of what this location looked like back in the day, even featuring one from the early 1900s. If you're looking for a spot with great drinks and amazing sandwiches made on ciabatta this is it. Located on the Commons in downtown Ithaca where you can enjoy sitting outside or inside. Our waitress was so sweet and attentive. My friend and I both ordered drinks that were delicious. I got the reds martini and it was so refreshing and fun. We wanted an appetizer and the reds pot of gold caught our eyes. It had the perfect amount of bread for us to share and once we mixed up the sauce and ricotta it just melted in our mouths. We even had extra for us to take home. The menu items have such fun names and the ingredients are fantastic combinations. I got the swim shady and could only eat half because it was so filling. The mahi was cooked perfectly and the arugula and pickled red onion took it straight to flavor town. I was nervous it would be soggy but it was the perfect texture. I got the French onion soup with it and I really wanted to like but it was mostly onion and not much soup. For dessert we saw that they have a rotating cheesecake option so we had to try it. It was Blueberry Cheesecake with vanilla ice cream when we went but I'd definitely be back another day to see what the other rotating cheesecakes are. Red's place was one of my favorite places in the Ithaca commons. However, after their change in ownership, this is no longer the case. In my latest experience at Red's I was very displeased with the ambience, service, and the food. My party was seated quickly and drink orders were taken promptly. This is the extent of the my positives. I ordered a beer from my server but upon telling her I did not have my physical ID, she was unable to serve me alcohol. This is understandable, nevertheless it would've been nice if she asked if I'd like to drink something non alcoholic instead. When the drinks came out my friend had a fly in her drink. This is not too surprising since the place was swarmed by nats, despite us sitting inside. We put in our food orders and the wait was unacceptable, especially since the restaurant wasn't even particularly busy. It took about 50 minutes and when my cluckwork orange sandwhich came out it was cold. I didn't want to complain since I was starving by this point. Lastly, our drinks were not refilled and the service was lacking. I would've tipped less but there is a 20% gratuity fee which makes sense for them since I wouldn't have tipped otherwise. read more

Fan-friggin-tastic! If you've stumbled across this review, it's a sure sign to give Red's a try. The place is cute, they have indoor dining as well as outdoor patio dining in the front. Service was spot on. From the second we were told about 15 minutes to them wiping downs a table and seating us in less than 5. Server stopped by right away and took the drink order which provided just enough time to gather our order. We started with the pot of gold which was a lovely tomato concoction with ricotta cheese in the middle. My husband doesn't like ricotta- and this changed his mind about that. When you swirl it with the tomato base... chefs kiss! It's amazing! We ordered a burger that had cheese, apple cider vinegar aioli and bacon jam cooked medium rare which was absolutely perfect! For a side, we ordered the sassquash. I cannot urge you enough to try it! What a lovely burst of flavors and textures. I love a good gastropub, and the ambience at Red's Place is quite enjoyable. Some bar food... a good beer menu... I'm all about it. It's why I've visited / gotten food from Red's Place a couple times now - as well as ordered delivery. Most recently, I was in town and realized I hadn't eaten all day... so you know what? Why not order delivery from Red's! (The availability on services such as Door Dash, which also sends me discount codes regularly, doesn't hurt either.) I placed my order online for the pb & "jellousy" burger with loaded steak fries on the side ($19.75 for the combo), as well as a side salad with lemon parsley vinaigrette ($4.75) because... you know... health reasons, and it wasn't long before my Door Dasher arrived with my order. Unfortunately, even though my Door Dasher was pretty prompt, my loaded steak fries arrived limp and lukewarm (at best). The burger, which was a bit of an experiment for me in terms of the ingredient combination of peanut butter and jelly on a burger, would have perhaps been better with a different meat blend. I don't know... the meat wasn't as appealing and tasted almost... overly sinewy for having been made from ground meat? The peanut butter and jelly combination on a burger was enjoyable, but something about the texture of the patty was off. Is it weird to say that the side salad was the most enjoyable part of my meal? The lemon parsley vinaigrette was quite tasty. That said, I don't want to be out here ordering delivery and just enjoying the side salad... ya know? With the various fees + dasher tip, the order would have been over $35. Thankfully, my trusty discount codes knocked about $12 off the price. Still... was it worth it? No. And perhaps that's the difficult thing about getting food at Red's... sometimes the food sounds promising, but the execution is lacking... and it's just not worth it. :-/ read more

Me not so much - if you want super sweet bacon on a flatbread that you can barely taste order the proper pig! Bacon overwhelming and salty, balsamic glaze overwhelming and super sweet, can't taste the flatbread or the herbs at all - the goat cheese barely existent and ended up as tiny crunchy little balls. Needs 1/4 of the bacon and glaze, 5x the goat cheese maybe some arugula to cut the other flavors and some roasted vegis to round it out. Disappointed in my lunch, but I was starving so I managed to get some of it down. Should have gone with a burger again :-( read more

First, Glenn, probably the bartender, was our server, and he did a fantastic job. Fast, efficient, and despite running with what appeared to be a lean staff, he was always on top of it. Never had to ask for a drink refill or anything else we needed. We had the curry up, a vegan fried cauliflower dish with red peppers, peas, shallots, and curry sauce. It was good, but it could have used a little more seasoning and flavor. I had the aurora street burger medium. This burger has ancho citrus bacon, arugula, cheddar, and garlic aioli. Burger was cooked medium as requested, moist and not dried out. Had it with steak fries, which were hot and crispy. My husband had the "drop a line," a mahi fish sandwich with grilled pineapple slaw, arugula, and chipotle lime aioli. He enjoyed it. He also had steak fries and followed with an ice cream desert he enjoyed. The drinks were ok. Not the best I've ever had in my life, but all enjoyable. I had the mule, a jalapeño tequila drink, and a white grape basil drink. I like the look of this menu a lot. Several sandwiches that sound tasty--a Cuban, a mushroom melt, a shaved steak sandwich, and more. They have salads and flatbreads too. Some vegan and vegetarian selections. Not huge inside, but wasn't crowded. Lot of outdoor seating. Located in Ithaca commons, so once you find parking, it's very walkable, and can be part of an enjoyable afternoon or evening. Meh. I was really disappointed in this place ! I had the aubergine sandwich.. yuck! Way too thick of slices , and too watery and the breading was horrible. And the vodka sauce was absolutely disgusting.. not even sure I'd call it vodka sauce. After 10 minutes of eating I got immediately sick and almost puked. The only good thing was the macaroni and cheese and it wasn't even as great as everyone says. The place was so dark, and there was a loud mouth drunk idiot screaming obscenities at people... I went to Red's for lunch and ordered the Pb and Jellousy. The selling point of this burger was the unique fact that it had peanut butter and jelly in it, which did add a bit to the flavor and tastiness of the burger, but the burger was still mediocre overall. I asked for the patty to be medium, but it was more like well-done. There were only two small pieces of bacon and one slice of cheddar on top. The buns were a bit subpar and seemed like cheap store bought buns. Plus, the size of the burger was rather small. I'm not saying the burger was bad (it wasn't) but for $15, I would've hoped for a little better. The even more disappointing part of my dining experience was the service speed, which was very slow. After having waited 20 min just to get a table (I came on a Sunday afternoon), I waited another half an hour for my burger to finally arrive. The restaurant seemed pretty busy and had both indoor and outdoor seating. The inside had a dimly lit pub kind of atmosphere. Overall, Red's has okay burgers and pretty slow service. Came here for dinner during a weekend trip in Ithaca and this place was SO freaking good. Our waiter was super friendly and recommended some things to us. We decided on a veggie sandwich with sweet potato fries and a brisket with pumpkin hot sauce and loaded tots. The sandwiches HIT they were so fresh and flavorful. The loaded tots were very rich but delicious. The sweet potato fries were tasty but definitely on the saltier side (my only complaint about this place). We got the fish sandwich (go with the flow) which was pretty filling but the fish was a little over cooked. The cuban was pretty good. We randomly stumbled upon this spot. They had a small outdoor deck and it was a nice day so we decided to stop. They weren't too busy, and we got sat right away. Our app took about 25 minutes to come out but it was worth the wait. The main courses took almost an hour to arrive at our table from when we ordered!!! This place definitely reminds me of Ireland, but this is likely due to the fact that I was with someone with a dual citizenship with Ireland and I got a Guinness. The staff did play a hilarious prank when they gave us the wrong bill, but it went over my head and they confessed to the prank fairly quickly. A big laugh was had by all. At one point I had a crowd of women hitting my seat and talking loud which took away from my date with my husband. So we started with a couple of appetizers- the onion soup rolls and the dip with ricotta cheese both of these were good. The onion soup rolls were a bit on the dry side. I ordered a chicken sandwich but got an eggplant sandwich. I'm not fond of egg plant. I asked the hostess to grab our waitresses and mentioned that I got the incorrect sandwich. The waitress said I could have swore you said Farm To Ciabatta Sandwich - I didn't want to correct her, but I had asked her when ordering and I pointed to the sandwich and said this one which was the Cluckwork Orange and I asked her if it was good with the artichoke hearts and she replied yes! No big deal she corrected it immediately and she was a ok waitress. The sandwich was slapped together quickly because she came back with the correct sandwich in less than 5 minutes. Unfortunately the sandwich wasn't good which wasn't her fault. We order dessert and I had asked for coffee. I should have told the waitress to forget the coffee because she paused and looked over at the kitchen and then said yes, I have coffee. So I received a cold cup of coffee. We ordered cheese cake which wasn't very good. It had an odd after taste. So unfortunately I am giving a 2 star review because of the sandwich, cold old coffee and dessert. For the sandwich the bread wasn't toasted and it was slapped together so quickly, the cold coffee and dessert. Lastly when I got home I was in the bathroom for a long time and was totally sick so it had to have been the sandwich or dessert because my husband had the appetizers. He had one bite of cheesecake so it could have been that? Not sure but something made me super sick which was not great especially being on vacation. read more
