I needed some parts for a new water softener that we were installing. I had been to Home Depot and Lowes without being able to find the parts. I needed to get an attachment to connect to a copper pipe. While at the last store a customer told us to try Red's . We didn't know it was still around. It is so hard to find plumbing supplies anymore. All the stores have closed down because of the big warehouse store. Sad. So glad this place is still in business. It's run by the son now. We got is there and they had lots of parts all up and down the aisles. We went straight to the counter and spoke with the son and he looked at the part we had and knew right away. He told us to look more closely to what came with your setup. It's a unique fitting and it's definitely in the box. no one will have the part you need . I am so glad we came here and got our answer . I went home and he was right the part was in another box in a plastic bag. crap what a waste of time. In the past customer service was not one of the strongest suits of Red's Plumbing however, that is no longer the case! The new guy running the shop was friendly, informative, and extremely helpful. I wasted time at two big box stores before coming here, and that's not a mistake I'll make again. From now on, this is where I'm coming first for all of my plumbing needs. I was warned that Red was an a hole, but he might have the part I need. Red did not try to help me. He was extremely rude when I interrupted him watching his TV. He immediately told me he couldn't help me before I could even explain my problem. He went back to watching his TV and I went to look around to see what I could find. Then he shouted at me to leave and to stop touching his stuff. I warned the next guy coming in that he should watch out because the owner was rude, and was back outside before I could drive off, and said Red didn't help him either. Very disappointed, my mom sent me here, saying it was a real plumbing shop and would be able to help me with what I needed. This man was sitting down chatting it up with a male customer, there was another man there, he appeared to be loading stuff up. the one sitting didn't get up just looked at me and said, what do you want. I started to explain what I needed/was looking for, he cut me off and said "just tell me what you want", he cut me off again saying that he didn't have what I was looking for. So happy i remembered Red's- after crying in home depot because no one would help me ( i was trying to replace my moms kitchen faucet- and i know nothing about plumbing) i remembered Reds on Franklin blvd. I called them from inside home depot and asked if they could help me. Jack who is now the owner said he could and to come by which i did. He not only knew what type of faucet would work from the photo i had ( i bought the faucet there- well made for a reasonable price) he gave me a recommendation for a plumber that would install it. 24 hours later the new faucet is installed - by Miranda Plumbing- they came out the next day . I was looking for certain plumbing parts for my pool and before I could get to the counter, he yelled out, don't even ask for that size clothes dryer vent pipe cuz I don't carry it. caught me by surprise! I said this isn't dryer vent pipe, and if you'll let me explain, I'll tell you what I'm looking for. It went downhill from there. After a completely useless exchange on what I was looking for and what he knew about my problem, I just walked out. He seemed completely oblivious of my decision to leave. He had all the parts I needed and his knowledge of plumbing was exorbitant. If you need someone to hold your hand and give you hugs don't come here. I would rate 0 if I had a choice. I bought 4- 10 ft long 3" cast iron pipes with other plumbing connectors for week or so for which they did not give receipt for exchange parts and charged me more around $700. and had to return since city of Sacramento wanted 4" pipes. I went to exchange with ABS 4" 4-10 ft pipes and connectors worth about $550. Steve got upset and insulted me as usual even for exchanging. His grandson added fuel to the fire stating they charge 15% restocking fee if you return after 7 days. They returned finally & gave $150 less saying I have no receipts. I had a 22-degree cast iron connector and went to return after a month or so. His grandson kept is and said we lost money since you cut one cast iron, but that pipe that was already accounted for during previous exchange. I told him you guys gave us curved 4-10 ft 4" ABS pipes that resulted in 3-4 failed inspections and cost me more time and money to have the inspection pass finally after a month's delay. I told his grandson I will think twice before coming to your store. He started cursing me rather than providing courtesy service and I had no choice but to curse him back. I am surprised that this store still in business after such bad reviews. read more

Wed Nov 21, shortly after 4 pm. The faucet cartridge broke to my laundry sink, due to the design of my old house had to turn off water from the outside. I live near an Ace hardware but they didn't have the part, they recommended I go to Red's as they are a plumbing store and it would save me time. At 440 pm, as I drove there, I called the store to confirm they were still open. I know they closed at 5 but was concerned because it was Thanksgiving eve they may have closed earlier. A man answered and was very curt and rude. I told him I was less than 5 minutes away. He said I needed to get there in 5 min because he would be closed in 5 minutes (4:45). I arrived about 4:45 and he was locking up. I showed him the part I needed and immediately without checking or anything, said he didn't have the part. Told me it must be fancy facet or from Europe but he couldn't help me. I asked if he might have a cap I could put on the pipe threads to at least close the pipe down from the wall so I could bypass the facet and turn the water on to the rest of the house. He told me no, he didn't know the thread pattern and in the same breathe told me to go out the left door, the right door was locked. As if implying, don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. He offered no solution or assistant to my Thanksgiving eve plumbing problem. It was now probably 4:50 not even 5pm. I left and headed to Home Depot. As I left, I was astonished at what a Scrooge he was. A few better words would be unprofessional, uninterested, bothered, inconsiderate and another word that rhythms with sick. I went to Home Depot, and after some effort and research. I was able to find a cartridge and two pipe caps just in case the cartridge I bought didn't work. Fortunately, the cartridge did work. I am disappointed in Red's. It was raining outside and Thanksgiving eve, the man made me feel rushed to drive there quickly to arrive before he closed, and then, didn't seem to give a damn that I might need my water back on, not just for Thanksgiving prep, but for the rest of evening and holiday weekend. I mean its a plumbing store, if you cant go to a plumbing store for help, where else can you go for plumbing help!!! Home Depot pulled through tonight. read more

I went to Red's to see if I could get a replacement lid for our toilet tank. I was aware of the gruff service before venturing over there. It was worse than gruff. I just asked, "Do you have any old toilet tank lids?" One of the employees said, "What kind of toilet is it?" I told him that the guy on the phone said, "It don't matter". That's when Red Jr. got involved and said, "It don't matter". I was even armed with a digital photo. Here's the toilet tank, It's a Standard. Guess what Red Jr. said? "It don't matter". He told me there were toilet tank lids out back near the old wooden pallets. They had quite a few but none of them were a match. I left out the side gate and headed to Mac the Antique Plummer. I went in because I needed an older brass fitting. He knew what it was, said they don't make them now and suggested another store. Did I get what I came for? Yes. He couldn't help. BUT he looked and knew what the problem was. That's called expertise. I watched several other people with their transactions and while he's not the guy who would win Miss Congeniality I don't believe he cares. At all. The store itself is a relic and while I would be afraid of some of the nooks and crannies I bet the owner (aforesaid Crochety Old Bastard) knows exactly what is there, how it works, and how many he has. After reading reviews, I did not expect wonderful customer service, but I also didn't expect to be treated as rudely as I was. I wanted 2 things from Red's. To solve a problem with a new bathroom sink and to get advice on kitchen sinks (my next project). I went into the store with my the top half of my new pedestal sink and the beautiful antique fixtures that were given to me. I showed the man at the counter what the problem was and he said, "take to to where you bought it." and walked away. So off I went to Brothers Plumbing on Kiefer Blvd. where those nice people told me what to do and sold me 2 little parts for about $10. They also were able to answer all my questions about my next project. Boo for Red's. Big score for Brothers! read more

Although the men there may be a bit grumpy they will always know what they are talking about. The guy is an a******. I'm a pretty handy DIY guy and I walk in with a hard to fit brass fitting and he says he has nothing that will work. I suggest maybe a coupler with a female adapter instead of the male and three minutes later he finds the pieces needed. Not only does he not suggest this as an option but he corrects me that I had the wrong size that I asked for. He's a professional I rely on that, don't rub it in my face that I was off an 1/8 an inch and what I asked you for. Red's sold me a faucet replacement part that was a cheap import instead of a genuine factory replacement part, claiming that it would work as well as the original. When I and my professional plumber installed the part, the leaky faucet was worse and flooded the area under the sink. I had to order the correct part directly from Delta, which when installed, worked perfectly and has since. Red's refused to refund my money when I tried to return their part because it had been "installed" (it was still like it was the day it was sold to me and in its original package) and I was outside their seven-day return period. When I pointed out their part didn't work, both Red and has employee refused to refund my money for a part I had no use for. When I protested their policy, Red became abusive and called me crazy. Both he and his employee were rude and unreasonable. There are many good plumbing supply stores in the greater Sacramento area, but Red's is not one of them. Shop anywhere but Red's for good service, courteous treatment, and helpful employees. read more

I felt so relieved when I found out that they were open. I was very desperate to find a part. Finally the owner (I think he was) said I have no choice but to get a plumber or buy this Compression Sleeve Puller for 35.00. I chose the Puller of course. I felt bad because he was watching a football game and if I know men they need their sports. It worked and only real plumber stores will have special parts like this. It worked like magic to get this part off so I can replace any size parts. Looks like I will go back in the morning. I need 2 more parts to hopefully finish my sink project. Home Depot don't have the size I need. Love this place. My only wish is that I can find a plumber or an electrician to marry. Lol read more
