Wow! First impressions are so important! Having visited The Redwing Café a couple times, I was starting to think it might be my "go to" neighborhood place. I told people about it and brought my best friend to enjoy it. The details and design of the reclaimed walls and tables, the metal railings and siding, the herb garden back courtyard with the bowling balls and a cannon ball decorated concrete wall; enclosing beautiful tall bamboo....it's a well-conceived place. Delightful decor! They serve Caffé Vivace and it is good coffee. It would be great if, when making an Iced Americano, the shots were poured over the ice cubes, then the water added. On previous visits, my shots were poured into a glass of tepid water and a few ice cubes were floated on top. Not cold. Not good. An annoying disappointment. I haven't tried any of the food, other than an excellent piece of delicious Coffee Cake. What is truly sad is that all the great aspects of a wonderful place can be so quickly ruined. I stopped by today. I was truly looking forward to it. Upon entering, I noticed 2 people in the kitchen area. The shorter person had his back to me and noticing someone had entered, he made a quick glance over his shoulder. No acknowledgement. As I stood waiting at the front counter, by the espresso machine (where I have ordered in the past), he chose to ignore me and to continue his important conversation. When he was finished, he turned around, avoided eye contact, and went to the counter that was farther inside the café. Still...no acknowledgement. I'm thinking... "Hey! May I have a 'Hello'? "Please, give me any sign that you know the basics of Customer Service? Something...? Nothing." This genius decided it was a great idea to go to the place where I wasn't, to stand there, and to just stare at me. Mute. Not even a smile. (Except for the total lack of expression, he reminded me of the old wooden puppet, Howdy Doody.) Astonished, I asked... "So...am I required to come down tbere to order?" His response... "It would be better." ("would be"?) WHAT!?! Unbelievable! I can only surmise that he was attempting to train me for any subsequent visits. There won't be any. I left. read more

Delicious little place! So they don't allow dogs.. It's very small and being a dog owner myself I get enough hair in my diet at home. Once you eat here that won't bug you or your pup if you save him some ;) Friendly staff with a smaller menu but definitely still has a variety. Their coffee came out perfect for my tastes. Redwing Cafe is one of the best cafe that I have eaten breakfast. The dining facilities are clean and well kept. Their toilets are clean and well maintained. Their staff are friendly and accommodate the needs of the customer. The chef is very flexible in substituting other foods for their standard menu. I enjoyed the rest of the day in Seattle because I had great breakfast experience. Seemingly a little thing could influence one's mind positively. I recommend this cafe when you visit Seattle. I heard about Redwing Café through a couple of different groups of vegan and vegetarians on Seattle's South End. Because of my work hours and the hours they were open it took me a while to come in. One day on my way to go snowboarding I came by for the almond croissants and was pleased to try an old favorite from my pre-vegan days and be welcomed by the flavor again, they have an amazing biscuits and gravy and I absolutely love the fact they marinate their tofu for the BLT in tea, it sets them apart! The food was actually pretty good. I question the service. The person taking my order was not very helpful. I thought I explained that this was our first time at the restaurant; instead of trying to help, the clerk was actually pretty rude. We did not know what to order (there is a menu on the blackboard and a take out menu which we found out later) Do we order before we sit down or do we grab a table and then order? Where do we sit? There are only a few tables on the first floor - 2 of then state please hold for parties of 3 or more. (we found out later that there is additional seating downstairs) Why wasn't that explained to us earlier? I would expect that the order taker would notice our confusion and offer to help us - instead we received a ton of attitude if he was annoyed that we did not know the process. I understand that it was the breakfast rush, but take a few minutes out of your time to help new customers. On to the food - the food was really good. I ordered scrambled eggs with homemade biscuits and apple butter along with the fruit salad. All 3 items were delicious - the biscuits were the best part of the order - fresh and clearly homemade. The apple butter tasted like pureed apple - full of apple-ly goodness. The coffee was delicious as well. I would give it 4 stars if the service had been a little better read more

Healthy food with awesome fresh roasted coffee, fantastic!! I am so glad to have just found this place!! They even have a number of gluten-free options including sandwiches!! I just ate a really great salad stuffed with vegetables with gluten-free toast. The tahini salad dressing was amazing!! They don't roast the coffee here, but get it every week. It is really good. This is my new favorite coffee/ food combination coffee shop. It seems that really great coffee shops focus on the coffee and usually don't have much else. I love red wing cafe . I honestly can not find any cons with this place . Some of my favorite things are the soups, the TLT, the veggie sandwich, and the harambe salad . I really like how you can see the kitchen from the front and I like even more how you can see how clean there kitchen is . The staff always seems so organized as well, along with the owners being lovely people which makes me want to spend my money here . The art on the wall is so cool too ! Even if you are not vegetarian, you will not miss the meat here . So you got good food, great customer service and a super comfy cozy environment . Truly the perfect Café - located right up the street from my work! The frittata and quiche are definitely my favorite items on the menu (I'm a breakfast lover) - along with the plain croissant... This was the perfect find on our way into Seattle during a recent trip. We arrived at the perfect time and recieved our food before a rush.
