As anxious as I was about getting teeth removed, Dr. Kat made me feel comfortable and ensured I was numb every step of the way. Everything went smoothly, I didn't feel a thing. Our friend visiting from out of state had a bad toothache and we were worried it was an infection…read more Upon the recommendation of our friend Echo, one of the staff here, we called Dr Lai's office and the receptionist Shirley got us in for an emergency check at 8:30am the very next morning! When we came the next morning, Shirley was super nice and helpful and got our paperwork all taken care of. Then Dr Lai did a checkup and a round of x-rays. He confirmed it was an abscess tooth and offered to drain it to relieve the pain. Then he gave us an antibiotic prescription to have the infection treated asap and gave a referral to a specialist nearby to do a root canal. He also sent a thorough email diagnosis with the X-rays to my friend's email and a copy to his own dentist. So professional and thorough! And since my friend's insurance wasn't going to cover this and we had to pay ourselves, they gave us a special discount which was very reasonable for all the work Dr Lai did! We loved this whole experience and I'm even switching my dentist to Dr Lai now!

After the procedure I complained about the sensation from the newly filled tooth. Second time: for teeth's cleaning and Dr. Lansangan tried to figure out why I still felt sensitive about the tooth. She was confident that there was nothing wrong about the newly filled tooth, she suggested my sensitivity was from other teeth nearby. So she did two more teeth filling procedure for me, even though I did not feel any discomfort or sensation from the two teeth. Afterwards I still felt sensitive from the same location of the first filled tooth. I went to different dentist office for secondary opinion. The dentist from this office identified the sensitive spot from the first filled tooth. He said the filling procedure done previously did not cover the sensitive area fully, he suggested to redo the filling procedure. I called Highland dental about the secondary opinion from other dentist. The assistant from desk lady said you should report to us instead of going to different dentist. I responded, I did report to Dr. Lansangan, but she was not able to identify and resolve the problem. Then the assistant agreed to make an appointment with me with no additional charges. Third time: this time the dentist was Dr. Tran. He was not friendly, even a little angry, apparently because I went to different dentist office for consultation. He reluctantly admitted the problem, but eventually he agreed that the filling material from the first filled tooth was falling out, he redid the filling procedure. They are care about their own reputation more than care about their patients. On the other hand they are not very skilled dentist.

Kyla and Dr. Yuen made me feel so comfortable and at ease. The procedure went by so quickly and I felt no pain, which really surprised me. They were very reassuring the whole time. I went to this office for a secondary opinion about my recent tooth filling done by my regular dentist. when I called to make appointment with the advantage dental, I was told that there would be another call from them if there was a cost after checking my insurance. No call. Then before the visit, I texted the office about the possible cost, no response. When I was in the office, the staff did not say anything until I was brought to a patient room, just beginning of the consultation, a staff came to tell me that we just found out your insurance would not cover today's visit, the cost would be $413. Of course I was not happy about this " late information ", telling the staff I would leave without the consultation. Then the staff said the cost would be $148 to keep me staying. After examining my teeth, the dentist Matthew Yuen said he knew that a filling job will be needed to redo on the tooth I concerned. He offered to do the procedure by himself, but I declined. He promised ( said three times) to give me a diagnosis note not later than the evening. I believed in him and paid the fee. On the following day, I messaged to the office to remind them about I have not received the note yet. No response from them for many days until I asked my credit card to withhold the payment. Only this time the dentist sent me the diagnosis note. Apparently Dr. Yuen did not feel he needed to provide a full service of the consultation after I chose not to do the tooth filling by himself.

The biggest reason I'm giving them 2 stars is the lack of transparency and what appears to be deceptive pricing practices. I was clear about why I wanted a consultation. I wanted to know the procedure's steps and the pricing of that procedure. Once the receptionist checked my insurance, she told me the total cost would be $2,000, and my portion would be $1,000. Then she said that I could do the procedure immediately. I asked if that $1,000 was the total out-of-pocket cost, and she said, "Yes." After the procedure, when I paid, the receptionist said I owed $1,690. What happened to the $1,000 cost? The receptionist made me feel like I was crazy, stating, "I must have been confused in the excitement." I asked for the itemized invoice, and the implant procedure cost $1,075 and an additional $615 for "Second Stage Implant Surgery." The receptionist should have discussed this additional charge! Furthermore, she never allowed me to read the invoice before the procedure or when paying; I asked to see it, and she just told me to sign on the digital device. I shouldn't have taken her word. Also, she told me that the consultation would be "no charge," but on the invoice, you're charging my insurance $256 even though I didn't pay out of pocket for the consultation. I don't understand. Be upfront about pricing and let customers decide, instead of using a shady bait-and-switch.

As a direct result, my insurance company denied the claim due to a lack of diagnostic proof. Instead of resolving the issue with the insurer, Hayward Dental Arts billed me directly for the full balance and required me to pay out-of-pocket for an oversight made by their own clinical staff. Dr. K knew this and so he took extra care to make sure I was as comfortable as possible; we talked about the procedure and he was communicative and checked in with me a lot. He told me several stories of his time in Vermont to try and relax+distract me. I have never had such an attentive doctor. As far as super unpleasant dental procedures go, this one was as bearable as possible. I am super grateful for his willingness to put in the extra work to make dental procedures much less scary. In follow-up fillings and similar procedures, he has handed me a mirror so I could have the option to see what was going on, if I wanted, and also always tried to do it without anesthetic shots when possible. In terms of dental hygienist, Mai is great. I like that she is a pleasant conversationalist but also very straight to the point. She lets me pick what toothbrush color I want :)
