I phoned to describe the issue with my car. The manager told me to shut the engine off, wait a minute, and restart it. I did, and it didn't work. He then said I'd need to have it towed in. I responded "Oh, okay" -- in a completely normal tone -- and he became rude and hung up on me. I'm not sure what I said to provoke that. Nothing, as far as I can tell. But if a neutral response to bad news is enough to end a phone call, I don't trust this shop to communicate honestly about a repair I can't verify myself. Recently, I had another terrible experience that confirmed I will never return. Three years ago, I paid Tao Auto to replace my timing belt and water pump for the first time. My truck had 322,000 miles at the time. Fast forward to NOW: my truck started making strange noises, so I took it to nearby mechanic. They told me the water pump was leaking and the timing belt needed replacing. So I had my truck towed to my regular mechanic, who said the same thing--and even noted the parts looked like original factory components. That's shocking because I paid Tao Auto for this exact job three years ago! My truck now has 356,000 miles, meaning only about 25,000 miles since the repair. Major repairs like this typically come with an 80,000-mile warranty, so I called Tao Auto. The manager was unbelievably rude and dismissive, repeating that the warranty was only 12 months and insisting they used "good parts." No accountability, no willingness to even inspect the vehicle, nothing. As a paying customer, this is unacceptable. It makes me question whether the work was ever done properly--or done at all. This shop clearly does not value honesty or customer service. The manager's attitude and honesty is the reason my first visit was horrible, and it's the reason I'll never go back. If you care about your vehicle and your money, stay far away from Tao Auto.

Scheduling the appointment is a breeze - used the online appointment scheduler, was confirmed in minutes. Drop-off is easy as well, you can use a key drop and leave the car after-hours. As a first time customer, it eased my mind when I saw that the shop is filled with all kinds of imports - Mercedes, BMW, Lexus .. and Mini. So these guys are specialists. I got a call before 10AM with an estimate (shop opens at 8). I'd had repairs estimated at the Mini dealer beforehand, so had an idea of the work that needed to be done. Reliable diagnosed the issues spot-on, and did the work for less than half what the dealer quoted. I had warning lights on the dash - check engine and brake. The check engine light turned out to be a loose wire on the oxygen sensor. The brake light turned out to be a faulty brake pad sensor. I could easily have been told that I needed a new oxygen sensor - or new brakes. And I would have taken that at face value. I'm always leery when working with a mechanic; since I'm not mechanically inclined I have to take their word on whatever repairs they recommend. And I've been burned in the past by paying for repairs that in retrospect weren't really needed. My experience here demonstrates that Reliable is a trustworthy business. Reliable Import Service is a reputable & honest repair shop and I recommend them.

Short version: Charged way too much [see photos] to fix problems the car DIDN'T HAVE, not seeing…read morewhat did need to be fixed, horrible communication (at least 5 days of feeding me nonsense) drained my battery dead and ran the engine/drove the car long enough to put at least 2 quarts of oil inside the exhaust, DROVE THE CAR WITH ZERO OIL ACTUALLY IN THE ENGINE and apparently SABOTAGED (they had no reason to pull that hose off) [see photos] the car when I told them I was taking it to a different mechanic!!!! Long version: On 1-19-22 my 2017 VW Golf was towed in for repair (I was pretty sure the turbo was blown and told them) I asked them to take a look and give me a estimate when they found out and they called me on the 20th telling me the head needed to be rebuilt and would cost over 5K, I asked if the turbo looked ok and they acted like they didn't want to even check until I committed to the other stuff and I asked them to email me the estimate and tell me if the turbo would need to be replaced and if so how much that would run before they started working on it (they never did) so I called them back on the 21st and asked what they found and once again if they would give me some kind of written estimate, they didn't check so I asked them to confirm no major repairs (like replacing the turbo) would be necessary once again on the 24th and they said they would call me on Tuesday the 25th and let me know (I told them I didn't want to do a $5,500 repair just to turn around and have to pay another 5K to fix something they missed (THE F'ING TURBO). Sooo on the 26th after never hearing from them I called and asked what was up, they said they didn't want to get too deep into checking if I wasn't going to have the repairs done.. but I guess they didn't want to actually tell me that so they held my car for 7 days and apparently did nothing so I went there and told them I wanted to take my car out the kid at the desk said he had to talk to his manager, after a few minutes he came back and told me it would take about a hour to get it back together, I said if you never did any work to the car why would it take a hour, "I need my car now, the tow truck is on its way" so they jumpstarted my car and DROVE it out of the shop (if the head was damaged so bad why did they drive it) I asked why the battery was dead the kid said his manager accidently left the car on.. On top of all that they charged me $125.65 just to play games with me, kill my battery and run all the oil out of the blown turbo and run the engine for god knows how long with absolutely no oil in it (something even I know better than to do). BTW I got my car fixed for a fraction of the price this shop was going to charge me (the turbo was broken). UPDATE: even though they didn't want to do any actual work on the car to diagnose what was wrong with it until I agreed to pay FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FIX SOMETHING THAT WASNT BROKEN they did have time to disconnect the hose in the picture costing the future mechanic time and stress, after doing the repairs he had to inspect the car to check for other signs of sabotage. It's been on my mind to write another review from an unscheduled stop right after Christmas. My daughter hit something with her car and broke an aftermarket rim. She's in college a few hours from home and needed to get back after her break. I had a new wheel ordered and paid for overnight delivery but could not find anywhere to install it. Every where was closed. I stopped by here and happened to run into an amazing gentleman that saved my entire day. The shop was closed but he was working on his personal vehicle for a trip to go see his daughter in college from what I remember. He opened the shop to remove the old rim and tire and mount the brand new setup for us. I have thought about this quite a bit and I'm always so thankful every time I go by and think about that day. An extremely kind gesture that saved so many things going wrong that day. I had a wonderful conversation with him as well. He stuck with me and helped me and I just wanted to Thank him and the wonderful family oriented establishment. They are incredible people and he didn't even charge us. They could not see my car that day, but scheduled me in at 11am on Wednesday. CLAS did not get to my car to see the problem until Thursday. I patiently waited for days since the Jennifer (the office rep) stated they had 1-2 mechanics working. I understood and due to the heat I figured it would take awhile. Thursday I spoke with James and he stated that I needed a new thermostat and a coolant flush. Long story short, I got my car back Friday 6/28 and within an hour my car red coolant temperature light, windshield wiper light and engine light was on. It was like I was back to square one! My car started to steam and stall. I called CLAS and called Jennifer who stated that they will be there Saturday 6/29 between 8am-12pm. They did not show up at all. There was a sign on the door that they will be on vacation starting 7/1. I called numerous times. I could not leave a voicemail due to it not being activated( I wonder why). I drove my car a little without the air and it overheated within minutes. I waited til everything cooled down and checked my fluid levels. Ya'all! There was no antifreeze or windshield wiper fluid. Per Jennifer she stated that the owner looked at my car‍The way this experience has been going he probably did not put in a new thermostat either.
