Amazing bagels. My coworker always brings the original bagel with jalapeño cream cheese, amazing. Soft bagels with homemade taste! Today I decided to try a breakfast bagel and got the Egg Bacon cheese and Avocado with a jalapeño bagel. It was freshly made by the guy at the counter and HOT. the egg tasted fresh also. Yumm! Im a night owl. Sometimes it's slower to get up on some days than others regardless of my schedule. Some days I do need the jolt of caffeine to get some alertness. Now if I get comfortable I can almost always go back to sleep. However I was en route to a meeting and RBC's iced coffee did the trick of kicking me in the ass to go about my day. I came in here and ordered a Ham and Cheese Croissant, plain cream cheese bagel, and a iced mocha. 5 mins in my Ham and cheese croissant was seeping through the bag due it not being wrapped incorrectly and being so greasy. And also the Plain cream cheese bagel was so small. Not only that my iced mocha was served in a paper coffee cup which is now not holding up and taste like a paper cup mocha. I went here twice ordering the same type of bagel - lox with cream cheese and everything on it; red onion, capers and for a total of $6.99 (and I didn't order a drink or anything else besides the bagel) it isn't worth coming back for the third time. The bagel even when toasted is a bit hard when biting down and is a little rinky dinky size, although they give a substantial amount of lox; the second time I came back here, the lox tasted fishy which means to me, they don't serve fresh ingredients. The guy who must be the owner rang up a customer before me, and when he took my order down and then went to make my order - I noticed he didn't wash his hands in between (this was my second visit). Although he used a glove on one hand, I told myself I will not return for the #1 reason of sanitation. The cafe is a local spot for customers who work and live around this tiny plaza. This is a good place for a quick bite to eat and if you're desperately hungry. The interior is outdated but for my expectations that's okay. Customer service is eh - bleh. Service is quick but I seriously will not return here for the sanitation and price reasons . I'm going back to my first love - Noah's Bagel where the bagels and ingredients are fresh, and affordable in comparison to this cafe. This place is forgettable. read more

Although the couple is nice they are almost too nice to the regular folks and leave new customers waiting longer for their food. I waited way too long for one bagel and a drink over 15 minutes and part of it was because they served their regulars who came in after me. If they are so worried about their regular customers then they should hire a person to deal with them. I was better off at jack in the box. read more

I've had a lot of pleasant Sunday mornings here. The owners are super-nice and remember that we don't like cream cheese, even though I often forget to mention it, and we haven't really been there much recently. 2 stars driving up to Palo Alto and I craved some bagels, so I jumped on yelp on my cell phone and found this place. Service was friendly, and the selection was good, so I got a spinach bagel w/ cream cheese and a multi-grain bagel w/ cream chease, cucumber, and tomato. Since I was starving, I started to eat the spinach bagel as soon as I got in my car. Thought it might have just been because spinach tastes different in bagels, but after having the other one, I'm convinced they ran out of something in their bagel recipe that morning. Both bagels tasted really bland for some reason. It was still a decent way to start off my day, but I doubt I'll be comin back here. read more

I've been frequenting Regal Bagel at least once a week for ~3 years. Tony and Mei-Ling are awesome (and so are their son and daughter). They always greet me by name and have my favorite orders memorized. The food is great too! Food & Drink Recommendations: 1. The Baja Breakfast Sandwich with cheddar cheese on a jalapeno cheese bagel with avocado and bacon (or sausage). Ask for the sriracha, if you like spicy! 2. I compare it to New York bagels. Delicious, dense and many choices for flavor.... OK not as much as NY in that sense. JALAPEÑO CHEESE BAGEL crispy cheese on top gives the bagel a crunch. The jalapeño gives it the kick. And when paired with ham or turkey its amazingly savory. Heck pair it with the salmon. They are not stingy with their cream cheese. The hot bagel and the amount if cream cheese creates a melty messy sandwich that is just so sloppy and yummy. But it can be a bit much when the cream cheese is spilling out of your hands. *tip* ask for less. SERVICE: they got two people working so not the fastest but you know they'll put their efforts into making your sandwich. If you in a hurry ask for simpler stuff. Non toasted. Dropped into this place on a lark, and I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of the bagels. I like savory bagels (no "donut-shaped muffins" for me.) I really like salt bagels, and I was surprised to see some (4, in fact) available at lunch time. I snatched them up, those glorious salt bagels, and took 'em home with a full dozen. I really like their spinach bagels, what a great idea! The spinach flavor is mild and doesn't interfere with the bagel's bready tones. Oh, and did I mention that Regal Bagels makes salt bagels, those glorious salt bagels? I don't know what other folks are talking about, regarding the bagels being big and dry, they were "normal" size and quite soft (did you go to the same bagel place I went to?) I bought a dozen at lunch, and ate them at dinner time and they were very soft. Now if only they had whitefish. Hmm. Nobody's perfect. Update: I knocked this place down from 5 stars to 3. Why? I bought a dozen and a tub of lite cream cheese to take home...Opening the tub of cream cheese the next day, there was a quarter-size spot of mold. Inspecting the tub, no expiration date. To the trash with it. My sweetheart introduced me to this place. There are four or five of us who often get together for Saturday or Sunday breakfast, and I suspect we've confused the heck out of the sweet couple who run the place as to who's dating who. :-) They've got wonderful bagels - I've never had one burnt or dry. Maybe not the best bagels ever, but certainly passable. They remember our order from month-to-month, which is always nice. The coffee is really good, though seems spendy to me. As someone else pointed out, there are only two people who work here, she makes the coffee and he makes the bagels, so a large order can take a while. If you think the Regal Bagel folks are unfriendly, it's because you only dropped by once. They know all of their regulars' orders by heart--no matter how complicated--and simply say "hi, the usual?" when you walk in or ask about the kids, etc. If you're a morning bird, you'll find fresh, warm bagels and perfectly tart and creamy cream cheese. Yesterday I would have given this business 5 stars fresh bagels friendly great place. After today they get 1 star and thats being generous. I have never been treated so rudely and I've been frequenting this place for over a year. I bought a jalapeno cheese bagel with cream cheese. The cheese they used must have been past its prime so I politely informed them. When I told them the man started yelling at me saying the bagels were fresh which I don't doubt the cheese was bad and I could taste it. I can't believe I haven't written a review for Regal Bagel yet! Of all the restaurants in Mountain View, this is probably the one I go to most. This place is conveniently located next to Safeway, and makes a perfect breakfast stop before grocery shopping. Typically, I get a toasted plain or spinach bagel with sundried tomato spread. I have to say, the sundried tomato spread is the best I've ever had. There are small chunks of real tomatoes in it, tastes homemade. I also have to compliment the owners: they really make this place worth coming to. They know the customers, remember their orders for next time, and take the time to get to know everyone. Coffee was super tasty and the bagel sandwich was delicious! Simple, fairly clean place with friendly staff. I had an egg and cheese breakfast bagel on a jalapeño bagel, along with a single white mocha. Nothing special about the mocha, albeit much less than vaunted local coffeehouses. The bagel was rather chewey, too chewey, and lacked any large jalapeño slices (or hardly any pepper pieces, for that matter). Very convenient, however, if you are already in Bailey Plaza for Safeway shopping. Who knows, maybe I'll come back to try their other offerings besides bagels and mochas. read more

I was in charge of getting bagels for the office the other day and this place was the closest to our office. I arrived around 8 am and there wasn't much varieties to choose from. I ended up randomly choosing a few different flavors (12 bagels total) and 3 types of schmear (lox, plain and garlic & herb). The total was about $19. It's a little more than what I'm used to paying. They even charge extra to slice the bagels, for which I declined. In terms of flavor (I tried sesame and sun-dried tomatoes), it was just okay. With every movement I made, the sesame kept falling off the bagel. In the end, it felt like I was just eating a plain bagel. On the other hand, I'm used to eating a thin bagel and this one was really doughy. If you're looking for something to fill you up, this is the place to go to. In terms of the schmear, the only flavor I tried was the lox schmear. It was light cream cheese mixed with diced smoked salmon. I ended up eating the whole container myself because no one else cared for it. In the near future, I think I'll try another place before coming back here. read more

Its a small mom & pop place, which is a nice change from the corporate takeover. the couple running the place are sweet, the gentleman is eccentrically charming as he talks to everyone making jokey lighthearted comments. This is our neighborhood bagel place. The owners make the bagels themselves (starting at 4am). They've never let anyone else run the store or make the food -- it's always been a two-person operation. I find their bagels superior in every way to Noah's and Posh and other chain bagels. They sometimes sell out of some varieties early, and the bagels don't last long if you don't eat them the same day, because they're made without excessive preservatives. I know some New Yorkers who have told me that this place comes closest to reminding them of bagels they get at home. My whole family loves this place. I recommend the sundried tomato bagel toasted with cheese, and a Chai Chiller. Can't be beat. read more

Mediocre bagels, substandard Lox. Poor service if the owner does not know you personally. Definitely not recommend. The place was empty at 12 Noon today, I consider that a very bad sign. Not one customer yet the owner and the woman who was assisting him ignored us, not greeting us and made us wait 5 minutes while they piddled about aimlessly. They had difficulty getting our orders correct, they were simple bagels and lox orders so this should not have been a challenge. They served incorrect orders and did not cut the product all the way through, unacceptable in such a simple offering. Shockingly, there were very few bagels in stock, it looks like they only bake once a day, in the morning so nothing is fresh after 9 AM. Good bagel shops will make batches continuously throughout the day. For goodness sake, its only bread, not rocket science, there is no excuse to pay a premium (yes, they charge more) for old bread. To make matters worse, the bagels were scattered about, mixed in different baskets, so we had to stare intently and try to figure out which ones were actually available to us. By 12:45 one other person showed up, and they treated him as indifferently as they treated us. If their desire is to only serve bagels at breakfast time, then they should shut down, the rest of the day, instead of serving sub-standard product. I was appalled at their use of Atlantic Salmon, this is FARMED salmon, not wild (Pacific) salmon. At these prices, this is not acceptable. The owner did not know what kind of salmon he was serving and had to get get the package and show it to me. In gigantic letters, emblazoned across the front, most prominently was the word ATLANTIC. It would be hard to not notice that you were serving an inferior product. I told him that there is no such thing as Atlantic salmon and that it was a marketing term for Farmed salmon, I also told him that farmed salmon is not considered top quality, that its dyed and in tests has been shown to have very little of the nutritional benefits that we pay a premium for. At this point he seemed to know the difference and said that they only use one supplier and that the supplier only carried Atlantic, farmed, salmon. That is just laziness or indifference towards his customers. I have friends who own retail shops, its not uncommon to have five or six suppliers so that you can get exactly the products that your customers want. This is just not acceptable. Their Bagels were very pale, and looked undercooked. Both of ours were flavorless, (at least the big chains bagel's taste like something). Bagels touch, lets air in I an originally a New Yorker and ate decent bagels every day, for breakfast or lunch before moving here almost 30 years ago, so I consider myself to have enough experience to know an inferior bagel when I bite into one. All that said, I did appreciate that they boil their bagels first (at least that is was they claim I did not see it for myself because they only make one batch a day) because this is the traditional method and produces a better crust. I did notice that there was a bit more substantial crust, with a tiny bit of crispness but overall they were disappointing. All the other bagel shops I've been to in this area (I've been to a lot) only bake their bagels so I was very hopeful that these would be better. They aren't. They also crowd too many bagels on each baking sheet. How do I know this? Because you can see the spots where they touch each other, right on the bagels, and the opening where they are torn apart. This defeats the purpose of making a bagel, which is supposed to have a tough outer crust that resists air intrusion and keeps them fresh longer. By tearing them apart, air gets inside and you get stale bagels. That is why at need, this morning's bagels were already stale. I'me very disappointed in this place, I understand that its a hangout for the neighborhood but we pay big bucks for this food and should get what we pay for, we aren't. Not recommended. read more
