This movie theater smelled like teen angst. At least I'm guessing that's what that interesting odor was. Like many people have mentioned this place is overrun by teenagers, it was kind of crazy actually. And as I expected they got pretty loud during the movie, and texted like crazy. I don't think the kid sitting in front of me had any idea that I read the entire conversation he had with his girlfriend. i really hope it works out. Other than that it was a good enough theater. I guess this is our new go to theater in the area. The lines weren't too bad, the seats were comfy, and parking was easy enough. And if you're looking for a meal before or after the movie there were plenty of restaurants within crawling distance. Coffee, sandwiches, ice cream, burgers, and even Thai literally across the street. We'll be coming back. Maybe this place isn't so crazy after a later movie? read more

Oh I love this theater. It isn't very close to home but I gladly drive the 15-20 minutes over to Alexandria just to see movies at Kingstowne. Why? Why you ask . . . because I love all the little things that go on in and around the theater. Right across the street there's Wal-Mart. LOVE IT. Coming from NYC Wal-Mart was but a far-far-off something that I couldn't even imagine. Upon moving to this area I actually can shop at Wal-Mart and I LOVE IT. I don't get into the politics. I just love the cheap, cheap prices. And then there's Johnny Rockets. Oh, Johnny. I love your burgers, your fries and your shakes. And there's Panera and Popeye's and a pretty good Thai joint. But back to Kingstowne Theater. The theater-complex is huge, clean and always busy. It's generally always full of kids . . . like tweens or little teenagers all milling about trying to look cool. I love it. I love watching them be 'cool' having fun without their parents. The seating in each theater is comfy but not as comfy as it could be. I wish they'd get the stadium seating-chairs that rock back-and-forth. But, that's my minor peeve. I like to sit in the back where there's more leg room. There are bathrooms at several locations throughout the entire complex. There's even a family-bathroom which is great when I take the kids. If you haven't already, go see a flick at Kingstowne. You won't be disappointed. The staff is attentive, the lines move quickly and there's plenty of super-expensive artery clogging/diabetes inducing food to be purchased. I figured since I've been to both this theatre and their sister theatre at Potomac Yards, I may as well review this one, too.... At any rate, as hatefully awful as the Potomac Yards facility is, the Kingstowne facility as a nice place to go to. Personally, I don't get how this theatre can be *SO* much better than its sibling, given that both are managed by the same local management company and not just completely separate franchise outlets. But, whatever. Given the choice of theatres near my house to go to, I'll definitely choose this one most of the time: * clean facilities * well staffed * realistic matinee hours (screw the hoffman) for those on a budget * fairly civilized customer-base Only real complaint is that the screenings tend to be dark. However, this seems to be a problem with the projectors used by the Regal chain rather than this theatre (I've noticed that screenings at Regal theatres I've been to in other cities are similarly dark). read more

I have quick a few theaters near my home but I was forced to go to this theater because it was the only theater still showing a certain movie I wanted to take my little sister to see. Though I was a little bummed that I had to drive a little out of my way to come here, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! It's a smaller theater than I'm used to, but it was nice. It was clean, the staff was friendly, and the area has lots of parking and little restaurants nearby if you wanna grab a bite to eat before or afterwards. I love this theatre too. What I love best is that they give military discounts for the movies that show at nights. I've been to lots of theatres and only one other gave veterans and military members a discount on tickets. I used to go to Kingstowne all the time when I lived in Alexandria. I didn' t realize how blessed I was to have this cinema so close to me. I moved out of the area and found another movie theatre closer to where I live now. I went into that cinema closer to my apartment and was very disappointed -- to say the least. I decided never to see movies in that theatre again. I was not alone in my disbelief about how messy the floors and bathrooms were. The couple behind me kept chattering before the movie started about how careless the workers were with cleaning up between movies. I guess they clean up with the LIGHTS OUT because they certainly missed a lot of areas. I went on vacation in California and took my kids to the movies. It wasn't much better over there either. The seats were good, the theatre was spacious but the ushers were not thorough enough about cleaning up after guests left. I then appreciated how more cleaner and spacious Kingstowne Cinema was compared to most movie theatres. I also noticed how much friendlier the staff members are with their guests at Kingstowne. I like how conveniently located it is. Moreover the little shops and restaurants also make it worthwhile. I like the ice cream shop but I'm not happy with the fish restaurant being that close to the cinema. Fish smell carries well at night, and boy is it strong. Doesn't mix well with the smell of popcorn & pizza. But the best thing I liked outside of the Kingstowne theatre itself is that parking is easy and FREE, and it's easy access with public transportation. read more

This movie theater is a decent size, so it has many screens and much seating, but I think that the theater was more pleasant to visit when it first opened. They do offer the major mainstream releases. Ticket prices keep going up and up. The concessions stand offers typical, overpriced snacks. Cleanliness throughout the building is just so-so. Employees are indifferent. Parking can be a bit hard to find in the garage if you are there during the evening or weekend. read more

This theater is the closest movie theater to my house so my family usually end up going to this one. I don't go out to movie theater that often mainly due to the cost, but if there is a movie that we really want to see, I would go get tickets at Costco ($7.50 each). I hate being in a crowded movie theater so I usually wait until the hype dies down and go see the movie on a weekday. Overall, my experience here was fine. The only theater staff I ever encountered here are the box office cashiers and the people checking the tickets. Seats are nice and comfy and I like the stadium seating. read more

We decided to check out our new* neighborhood theatre this past weekend to check out "The Social Network." Of course, we had visited the shopping plaza before, so we knew what to expect parking-wise, but were pleasantly surprised to find a pretty primo spot there in the parking garage that evening, right between the stairs and elevator. We are pretty used to Regal cinemas, as the one we frequented back in Orlando was one as well. Although a little pricier ($1 more) it definitely wasn't a shock and to be honest, this theater appeared cleaner and nicer anyway, which justified it. The line was pretty long at the box office, but we recalled our usual routine of looking for an automated ticket machine, which we found and took advantage of, getting us purchased and in in less than 3 minutes. We had already had dinner that evening, so I cannot comment on the concessions, but the actual theater that our film was showing was definitely in good condition, with comfy, clean seats. The crowd was a little older (our age 'older' - as in, late 20's to early 40's-ish) which was a welcome departure from the usual annoyance of teenager audiences (are you sensing a pattern in my reviews, hah!) - which could have been due to our movie choice, but nevertheless, it was pleasant. *new, as in, new to us...we're new to NOVA! read more

Nice enough theater. Comfortable stadium seats, decent sightlines; this has become my go-to first-run theater in Alexandria. There are plenty of casual restaurants (Panera, Johnny Rockets, a Thai restaurant) in the shopping plaza if you want to grab a bite before the movie, and a Wal-Mart across the street if you want to stock up on Junior Mints. Free parking, ample showtimes for new releases. I do recommend going earlier in the day, especially on the weekends, to avoid the crowds of families and teens. Other than that, a generally solid place to catch a new movie. read more

I expected more out of Kingstowne theater being in a nice location. There's plenty of restaurants nearby so dinner before the movie is an easy option. I do believe it's the hangout for kids--there's usually tons of teens, especially during the weekends. Parking gets tough as well. When the place is packed, good luck finding a spot. If you don't get there early enough you'll find yourself walking a good distance from your car, in a sketchy area at that. I honestly have had better experience for the same amount. They have student and military discounts. The latter is only good for service members, not dependents. You can show your dependent ID card all you want and they won't give it to you. Sometimes you get lucky though because the cashier doesn't know the difference. I've been going to this theater only because I'm fairly new to the area and not familiar with any other movie theaters. I think I'll be looking for a new one to go to. read more

This place has gone downhill. There is no longer anyone to take tickets or even sell them, you have to wait in impossibly long lines to get to the concession stands where all transactions take place. If you want popcorn, you'd better get there at least 45 minutes before your movie! read more

Last night my daughter and I REALLY wanted to see Hotel Artemis. Unfortunately this was one of the few theaters showing it. The ticket purchase was pretty painless but it all went downhill from there. The line to get our stub taken was highly disorganized. We were 4th and 5th in line but a large group of people just barged on in and cut us off and the ticket taker never said a word. We knew the theater would be busy so we arrived early. We started standing in line for popcorn at 6:55 and ended up missing the start of our movie (it started at 7:40). I have stood in quicker lines for a roller coaster! We finally got to order and the kid at the counter charged us for stuff we did not order. He called the manager over for a refund and I was given a cash refund on my credit purchase. Only came here because most seats were sold out at Springfield. Prices are the same but the experience is way different. They were out of water and Diet Coke at concessions- and they wanted to charge us the same price for tap water as a bottle of Dasani. Said they were charging for the cup--Uh no thanks. Also there was popcorn all over the floor and no napkins in the dispensers. Just doesn't seem like anyone is trying real hard here. read more

Wow...this place has not fared well!!! The lobby is a disaster...popcorn, napkins, and straw wrappers all over the floor. The concession stand was out of tons of stuff...no beer or wine, no slurpees, not even any small or medium cups! The seats were uncomfortable, the theater was a sauna, and the whole place was dirty and threadbare. It reminded me of the Shrilington theater *before* their renovation except for the hot and dirty parts. There is no excuse for charging premium process for such a crappy experience. read more

Went to see a movie on Christmas Day and wow, has this place gone downhill. The place was dIrty- the women's bathroom was out of order-the line for popcorn was long and slow, and the young man basically complained to us that he was suppose to be off three hours ago. Worst experience ever. Horrible management, no security, bad employees. The kitchen was closed mid day when we arrived! The lines for the food was horrible. None of their cash registers were working. There is no security. We had ordered tix online but all we had to do was walk in and just go straight to our theater. No one stopped us and asked to see our tix. The movie's sound system was low and quiet; it was hard to hear the movie. The seats are regular seats. There was no jalapeño for the nacho and cheese. The only good thing I can say about this place was the movie on its own and their ICEE. Never coming back again. Avoid this place. read more

You might as well drive a few more minutes down the road and pay a little bit more to go to the Springfield Town Center Regal. Stay away from this one. The entrance has been completely changed and looks dull and run down. There was one individual standing alone in a large entrance without a stand or anything and that was the person who checked our tickets. Initially we weren't going to buy any concessions but when we saw a LARGE sign that said "beer and wine" we decided to stand in the long line to order 2 beers. The woman in front of us had young children and clear directions as to what she wanted but the worker disregarded pretty much everything she had to say and ended up messing up her order. The worker was rude and smacking her gum and when the woman asked to speak to a manager the worker said "yeah there's a manager around here somewhere" and disregarded the request to speak with one. When we arrived at the counter, the worker was staring at the ground and we had to get her attention. We ordered the 2 beers and the worker looked at another worker and said "what do we do with alcohol orders?" and the other worker replied "we don't sell alcohol" and we walked away empty handed after spending 20+ minutes in line. The theater itself is outdated, run down and smells. The seats are uncomfortable and many are broken. Stay away from this disorganized chaotic theater. read more

I came here to see The Lion King at 8:30pm on 21 July the concession stand was FILTHY the bathrooms were unkept the shift manager was rude and unprofessional with her employees in front of customers. The main manager was offputting to customers needing assistance with their orders. Instead of having a sign stating what was unavailable knowing their oven was broken they continued to allow customers to order those items and the lack of communication increased customer wait time. The popcorn wasn't fresh the staff had to bring stale popcorn from the back to the front. Inside the actual theater there was a sour odor. The lobby and concession stand was unsat the floors were dirty looked as if they hadn't been swept or mopped in days. I for one WILL NEVER come back to this movie theatre it should be shut down and leadership classes on personnel management, time management and above all customer service should be given. The ONLY young lady that had some type of poise and professionalism was the 18 year old dirty blonde young lady that got yelled at unprofessionally for asking for a break. She kept her composure and was very hospitable to customers in line. She needs to be the manager because clearly the long haired guy (main manager) and the Hispanic young lady cant handle the job. read more
