Quaint neighborhood theater hailed as the first in Atlanta to solely screen independent films (typically 3-4 at a time). I've lived in the area for quite a while now, so I'm bummed I hadn't visited sooner. I went to see the Last Duel on opening night...our theater had 4 other groups , so there was plenty of room to spread out if social distancing is a concern of yours. Masks are "optional". The concession stand within the lobby is small- I only noticed popcorn, mini bottles of wine, and beer...eyes on the prize. Check this place out for night out!

It's not the best cinema but their offerings are great. Seats don't recline but are comfy. The bathrooms are an oddity - nothing is centered or even has any rhyme or reason. There's a sole sink right by the door. It's funny. Concession offerings are typical plus some wine and beer.

A cute rustic theatre unlike what I have seen before. Although this is a chain theatre, it had a very small-town, personal feel.

The Tara is an Atlanta institution. Even though Yelp has it listed as United Artists, it is now owned by Regal. If you go to the movies as often as I do, make sure to get a Regal Crown card and start earning points towards free stuff. This theater is where to go to see all the Oscar-nominated movies and independent films the mainstream multiplexes don't show. If it's not playing at Landmark Midtown Art, chances are you'll find it at the Tara. Yes, it's small, and old, but the restrooms are clean and most of the theater seats have been upgraded. So it's actually a bit nicer experience than the Landmark. Plus, if you're looking for dinner and a movie, there are plenty of hip restaurants in the area. (Woodfire Grill, Alfredo's, The Colonnade, Fat Matt's, Red Snapper, Taqueria del Sol, and many more. Something for every appetite and price range.) Traffic at the intersection of Cheshire Bridge and La Vista gets backed up quickly, especially during peak hours, but at least now there is a light near the Publix so you can exit the shopping plaza with relative ease.

I've only been to this theater twice. The first time was waaaay back in the 90s and the most recent time was this past Friday (August 4, 2017). If you had put me in a hot tub time machine and had me switch back and forth from the 1990s to today, I would've been hard pressed to notice any differences in Tara Cinemas aside from the prices being adjusted for inflation. It has that old school vibe, although it combines both the good and bad of it all. Tara Cinemas is located on Cheshire Bridge Road in between the Midtown and Buckhead neighborhoods of Atlanta. Cheshire Bridge Road itself is mostly known for adult novelty stores, lingerie "modeling" shops and foreign restaurants but it changes just a little once you're about a block from the theater. Yes, there is a massage parlor nearby but there is also a Publix grocery store, Wells Fargo bank, CVS pharmacy and an upscale apartment complex right across the street. The community is actually very free-spirited, diverse, busy and yet relatively safe as far as violent crime is concerned. Tara Cinemas blends right in with the area because it has it's own style. It is a four room cinema that mostly shows indie and foreign films. The kind of movies they show is really its main appeal. The movie I recently saw was "The Beguiled." Even though it stars such big names as Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell and Kirsten Dunst, for some reason it wasn't being shown at the larger Atlanta theaters. I paid $14.20 to see the 4:50 pm showing. This is a Regal cinema, so the price paid for popcorn and Coke were pretty much the same as I'd pay at the much larger Atlantic Station Regal theater. But the popcorn was kind of stale and the Coke didn't have that kick to it. The people who worked there weren't rude but they acted like residents of a small, remote town who were trying to figure out what the new people riding through were all about. Now I know this theater isn't supposed to be like the fancy new ones that you see in Atlanta but the room I saw my movie in had a sticky floor and was kind of stuffy. The seats had cushions but since it was dim I couldn't tell how clean it was. I enjoyed the fact that there were only about 12 people (including myself) watching the film. The crowd was older and I was the only one there who wasn't white. I'm not complaining at all about that though; I'm just painting a picture for the readers as to how the demographics were that afternoon. The sound was kind of low but since it was a small room I could still hear the movie. Afterwards, I found the restroom (with its three stalls and three urinals) to be surprisingly clean. In fact it felt cleaner than the room I watched the move in. I'm not trying to throw shade at Tara Cinemas. I know two stars is a low rating but I'm doing so with the attitude of "meh, I've experienced better" rather than anything else. I would attend another movie here if it's not showing anywhere else though. But I still think that Midtown Arts Cinemas is a better place in Atlanta to watch independent and low budget movies.

One of my favorite theaters in the city. They show mostly independent films & I love the classic old school theater feel. The theater is 50 years old and cleaner than most new theaters. The only drawback Is that they have become part of Regal so for 3 adults it was $38 and a large popcorn was $8.79 & a large soda was $5.99. So If you go on one of those dates like in the movie half baked, you may want to pick somewhere else. I was on a date with two women, my wife and daughter. Had you going for a second huh. But in all seriousness Still one of my favorite places to go see a movie.

A simple theater where you can see movies you won't see elsewhere. And also the nicest staff ever. I worked with the staff during one of their movie previews, and they were totally nice and helpful. The theater feels clean (yay! no sour patch kids sticking to your shoes!) and they have cool stuff in the snack bar like Odwallas. Yay, Tara. Yay.

Nice theater! Clean and comfortable. Better concession prices than a lot of other theaters. Above average movie selection.

Regal sadly closed this theater within the last month. A loss for the film goer community.

They were only a few in the theater that I watched my film, and as you'd expect they could recline or have much room to stretch your legs out in. Luckily, this wasn't a necessity for me, but if you'd like to make yourself at home, be warned. The price for a small popcorn was a pretty standard seven dollars. I didn't get to look at the rest of their offering, but it seems they had traditional movie concessions. Overall, love the vibe of this theater and hold definitely be back!

RE: Paris Hilton special early screening of Infinite Icon: A Visual Memoir…read more I honestly didn't expect to enjoy this documentary as much as I did, but it was really good and surprisingly eye-opening. It shows a side of Paris Hilton that goes far beyond the media image most of us grew up seeing. One thing that truly shocked me was being reminded that she made music. I actually recognized one or two of the songs, but it never clicked back then that she was the artist behind them. Seeing her creative journey explained in context made it all make sense and gave me a new appreciation for her as more than just a pop-culture icon. The documentary does a great job of peeling back the layers -- the pressure, the misconceptions, and the control she's had to fight for over her own voice and narrative. It felt honest, vulnerable, and human in a way I wasn't expecting. Overall, it's a well-done, engaging watch that definitely changed my perspective. Whether you think you know Paris Hilton or not, this documentary will likely surprise you. Only 1 thing I wanted to see was her really like FOR REAL DANCING.

We arrived and parked in the garage below the mall. This was relatively convenient. We were close to an escalator that got us into the ground floor. From there, we oriented ourselves and determined how to get to the theater. Pro tip = use the elevators. The theater is more automated than at my last visit. Tickets are all via kiosk at the entrance. It appeared that much of the concession was also of the do-it-yourself / automated variety, but we did not get any food. The theater itself was nice - with reclining seats that were comfortable. Prices were average. We mostly chose this for timing and convenience, due to the film being in limited release. I don't know that I would pass up closer venues just to watch a movie here, but the experience was fine. I would go back.

This is an upscale experience with reclining seats that includes 2 seats per pod. Super cozy for a date night. Complimentary blankets are included at every seat for your enjoyment, at no additional cost. Now let's get to the fun part! IPIC is not your typical movie theater as they have a full bar with cleverly crafted cocktails, my favorite had to be the Lavender Lemonade. It's cool and refreshing and so esthetically beautiful that you question if you should drink it or admire it. But wait there is more, on top of having a full service bar they also have a full menu! Yes you still have the typical popcorn and candy option but they also include such dishes as spicy tuna on crispy rice, charcuterie and cheese platter, lobster rolls just to name a few. Everything is savory and delicious! They do validate parking, allowing guests to park in the garage for a discounted rate. Validation usually brings the cost to approximately $3-$3.50 for 4.5 hours. The cost of tickets range from $14 - $28 per ticket. I have come many times and plan on coming back many times more. IPIC has officially become my favorite theater!

There was no notification, no auto-renewal, and no indication in the app that I had ever been a Gold member. For a premium theater experience that relies heavily on app-based ordering in a dark theater, the lack of transparency was frustrating. Unfortunately, the experience only went downhill from there. There was a noticeable sewage smell in parts of the theater, which immediately took away from the upscale atmosphere IPIC is known for. I was also disappointed to learn that the blankets, one of the signature touches that made IPIC feel special, are no longer available. The food quality has also declined. I ordered the chicken tenders, and even staff acknowledged they are using a different supplier than they did in the past. The difference was noticeable, and not for the better. To make matters worse, our drinks took an exceptionally long time to arrive. I've happily paid premium prices at IPIC for years because the experience felt worth it. This visit felt like a series of cost-cutting measures wrapped in a higher-end price tag. Between the membership confusion, declining food quality, slow service, unpleasant odor, and removal of amenities, it's hard to justify the value compared to what IPIC used to offer. I hope management takes a hard look at the customer experience because the brand that earned my loyalty over the last two years feels very different today.
