For 2000 bucks a month you get to wait for an elevator for 15min then climb down 30 stairs, then back up again, twice a day baby!!! Isn't that the dream??? Garage parked with unpaid unregistered vehicles so you don't find space to park, because the gate is broken half of the time and anybody pressing the button is let in. Lived here for a year, it's an okay place to live - nothing grand and not the best deal in Chicago (or even Hyde Park), but it'll do for temporary housing. Pros: - Great maintenance crew - Large windows that make up most of your living room walls - Great view of the lake, downtown, etc. (depends on where your windows are facing, I had a corner on the top floor - I could see the skyline, the lake, and hyde park) - Pretty good location, bus stop right at the side entrance of the south building - Grocery store available on first floor - Gym and indoor pool available for a price - Central air - Parking garage available, also for a price; you can also lock your bike in the garage Cons - The view is often obstructed by many many spiders that tend to cover my windows on the top floor (they make little web-parachutes and get blown up from the lake - I kid you not, google it) - Prices go up each year, and it gets pretty pricey - Internet is terrible - Grocery store is really expensive so not a realistic option - Garage is not a safe place to lock your bike (my bike seat was stolen) read more

I recently moved out of Regents Park, in Hyde Park. I would like to take the time to thank one of the employees of the building. Nicholas Wallace was a big help when I moved in 2 1/2 years ago. He hung pictures and put my tv stand together. He told me a little about the building. He once hand delivered a package to my door. He also helped me when I decided to move out this week. He took my bed apart and came by my new place and put it back together. He is a very valuable employee to Regents. read more

I love the amenities my apartment also. My only issue has been, maintenance staff entering my apartment without my permission or when i am not home. they have permission to enter if there's an emergency ONLY. Happened a few times. Then the following week Someone was trying to enter my apartment with a pass key while i was home. when i opened the door he acted confused saying oh i thought i just left this apt. i said no you didn't . then he said oh i thought this apt was empty. he had no tools or paper work indicating he was repairing anything. Yes i have reported it. however they are still violating my privacy that i don't have obviously. If you don't mind staff walking into your apt without asking you, this is the place for you. read more

I would give negative starts if I could. This place is HORRIBLE, again HORRIBLE. First, let's start with the elevators. They are very old and thus have so many problems: - They sometimes skip your floor. - You have to wait a while for them. There are times I have to wait 10 or 15 minutes. Imagine you have a medical emergency and you have to wait this long for the elevator? This is RIDICULOUS. - My friend had to walk 12 flights of stairs one time after she waited forever. - My friend's friend got stuck inside one of these elevators one time. - When you ride one of these elevators, it feels like you're on a lurching boat. Second issue is the AC. It is very loud. It runs all day long but it never gets cold. I was sweating like crazy during last summer. Third, all appliances are very OLD. The stove is lopsided. It's annoying when your pot or pan is leaning to one side when you cook. The sink in the kitchen does not have a garbage disposal so you have to unclog it with Drano every two weeks. The flush of the toilet does not work well either. Stay away from this place as you get stressed out every day while paying the hefty sum amount of rent. read more

This place has a lot of smoke and mirrors to it. Both figuratively, as well as for real. Allow me to explain: the place is old. It's been through some degree of renovation, which lands it an air of a nice hotel, but when you live there you realize there is only so much LED lighting on some common areas can impress you. My major issue with this place is fire security. We were living there for about two months when someone in the same floor had a fire in the apartment. My partner and I got home and walked out of the elevator at precisely 8:30pm that night. We could smell moderate cooking oil burning. Nothing that would advise me to run for my life. We proceeded to our apartment, and at precisely 8:45pm I noticed the smell of real smoke in the air. We immediately headed for the door, and it was already too late. The smoke was pitch black in the walkway. We could not see the lights, which never went out, and the smoke was so thick and hot you could not even open your eyes in it. It would burn you blind. In 15 minutes, it was that bad. We were trapped inside our apartment without being able to get out until the fire department came in to escort us out, a full TWO HOURS later, since they were busy putting out the fire. Great job guys! I would not be alive today if it were not for them. I exchange several conversations with management, during which they tried to BS me into "there are silent alarms that notify us so we can notify the Fire Department." Silent alarms?? I sure want to know if my building is going up in flames in time to walk out! I don't want no silent alarm! What about water sprinklers? What about alarms that actually do wake you up if you are sleeping and inhaling fatal toxic fumes? Nah, none of that in this place. The small units inside the apartment only started sounding AFTER my nose had already let me know that we were already committed to the inferno. Had this happened at 2:00am, I would not be alive to write this review. I do not exaggerate. It was THAT BAD! Management refused to do anything about it. Apparently they were grandfathered in and do not need to update the building. Have you seen the news about that lady that got killed the other day in a fire when she was taking the elevator? Same situation here. Someone could have died. The lack of care for human life in this place is astounding. Stay away if you value your life, please. I will be very happy to move away come the end of my contract in about a month. On a positive note: service staff, door men (not the office), are wonderful people. Maybe that's why they tried to fire them all when MAC bought the place. Maybe they wanted to stay true to their bad service and had to get rid of the few good people they had. I've lived here for a year this March. My views are great and Studio Apartment is large with great closet space. Elevators are on the slow side but not all the time..maintenance requests are taken care of promptly and efficiently..Front Desk staff is friendly and helpful Lobby is clean and updated nicely .The work out room is good with decent number of treadmills and the pool is very nice . Cable and Internet are part of rent so that's nice although the cable and Internet can be sketchy at times especially the Internet. Drawbacks are the revolving door for the main entrance which is annoying and difficult to maneuver and very awkward in an apartment building ...when you have packages or groceries there are sliding doors but in winter and when cold only one operational.Street parking nearly impossible , a utility charge is added each month which would be okay except you also get a separate electric bill as well so be prepared to add an additional 65-70 dollars a month to your rent as well as your personal electric bill . To their credit they do mention the additional monthly charge when giving information about the apartment but although they don't quote an actual $ figure they give a fair quote but that gives impression utilities all inclusive . I like living here and plan to continue but wish that revolving door would be replaced with a normal functional entrance similar to the Luxury Apartment building types along the Gold Coast or Lincoln Park! read more

Regents Park is an over-priced dorm that has rested on its great views while letting the entire place fall apart. For $2100 per month, I expected more. The first summer, they jackhammered all day outside my windows and since I worked from home, I had to listen to not just the jackhammers, but the music and conversation of the workers in addition to keeping my blinds closed for privacy. The windows are so corroded that it took herculean efforts to open and close them, and then they only let in about 12 inches of fresh air. So much for enjoying the lake breeze! The elevators and hallways smell of marijuana. I didn't particularly enjoy sharing the elevators with brazen teens with their pants halfway to their knees. These same teens could also be found making out in the sauna and pool after school -large groups of them roughhousing, swearing and listening to loud music with no concern for other residents present. When RP "rewired" the building, my two television sets no longer received the cable signals. I was told my tv sets were too old and had to buy new ones and was not even offered compensation for this. Even after buying a new set, the cable service was inconsistent and as others have said, no pay per view or other services ever available and the slightest weather event caused the signal to fail. . The hallways at RP smell of garbage which emanates from the filthy garbage chutes and even though I complained about the lack of sanitation, it never changed. Regarding other sanitation problems, I received spoiled food from the in-house grill and had to be hospitalized with food poisoning. Even though I have medical insurance, it still cost me $500 in out-of-pocket deductible for 10 hours I spent in ER. I told the grill manager about it and suggested he do a better job of refrigerating the food. He didn't seem to care. MAC is lucky to have the extremely capable maintenance staff they have at RP because they are always having to fix something. I will say that they try their best and they are very nice and helpful guys. I can't say the same thing about the rude concierge staff. Except for Jason and the lone woman concierge, the rest of the door staff is indifferent and sometimes downright hostile. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I should have known things would go from bad to worse when I discovered the leasing agent had lied to me. He had promised me a "signing bonus" when I signed my lease, but reneged on it after I had signed and moved in. Regents Park needs to be gutted and revamped from top to bottom. It is out-dated, grungy and obvious that the property management company is just banking on a steady stream of foreign grad students who will generate enough turnover and revenue that RP can just keep pocketing their exorbitant rents without truly putting anything back into the property. The place reminds me of the Titanic....once beautiful and regal, but now sinking to the bottom. read more

I would say that this building is good. It used to be great but has gone down hill over the last few years. The staff is pretty good. Nick Wallace is great as we have been in the building a long time and know him well. My mother is 100 years old and Nick is always very helpful to her whenever she sees him and needs assistance. Great guy. The ladies in the office are very nice too. The front desk staff keeps changing so it is hard to really comment on them except for Lewis who is very nice. I have been in this building since the late 70's and have seen the changes both good and bad. Yes so many have said you can go downtown, but not everyone wants to live downtown . The issue with the section 8 seems to be getting better but could use some improvement . I am not against people getting rental assistance I just think the building could do a better job of screening the people they let in. overall as apartments in Hyde park go this is not the worst but could be better. I'm currently a resident. The place has great views and the security staff/mailroom ladies are very friendly, but overall, you can find better places. When I first moved in, I had an apartment right next to elevator, and it is really noise (similar to train passing a station track). However i was told it is "normal" level. Then after much deliberation and many time-consuming conversations, I moved to a different apartment and was charged an additional monthly rent as a transfer fee, which to me are very unreasonable. There were also frequent mistakes in my bills in the first few months. I understand there were lots of adjustments so it is easy to calculate wrongly. But this happened a few times and I had to always go through the long list of items to make sure I was not ripped. This is a time-consuming effort, and the fact that the resident manager I talked to always sounded that I couldn't do math correctly (though in the end their calculations turned out to be wrong) didn't help the experience. When there is renovation in the garage, there was also less than two weeks notice that they would move your assigned parking space. When I asked about the finishing date of the renovation, I was usually told "i don't know", "you need to talk to the supervisor who is traveling". This is not big deal, but one chooses an assigned spot for a reason, and I thought they were causing an inconvenience to their residents and could treat the inquiring residents more politely, for example, adding "sorry" to the response "i don't know". There is heavy late fee payment for missing the rent. This is reasonable, but like the transfer fee they charged, these were not explicitly mentioned when you shop the place or first move in, and don't show up prominently in the lease agreement or resident web site (you can ask about these things, but the fact that you have to constantly watch out to avoid being charged heavy amount is not a pleasant experience). I just missed it for the first time due to travel, and I am asking for a waiver. I'll update if that goes through. It could be just me, but the experience of interacting with the admin of the place has been unpleasant: when you're over charged, you have to plead hard, and it takes a lot of time and effort and back and forth to get things corrected, and throughout the process I felt being treated as if I owe them money; when you actually owe them money and don't pay in time, you just get heavy late fees. People have different experiences, and I am sure many have more pleasant experience here. Rather than complaining, i just hope to provide some facts through my own experience so that potential residents are aware of some of the issues they might run into. read more

If you work or study at U of C I can assure you that you will waste more time either dealing with management, maintenance, or broken elevators in this building than you would commuting from downtown. In the mid-to-late 2000's RP was a BEAUTIFUL place to live and I enjoyed living there. Well, I moved back into RP this Spring it was a nightmare!!! I didn't write a review at the time but now as I read so many of other people's experiences, I am seeing that my experience was not unique. So, I am adding my experience to help other potential tenants avoid RP and an awful experience. I have taken some of the other complaints and have paraphrased or directly shared them in this review because some of them are so similar to my own horrendous experience. The only thing RP has going for them is the concierge desk and janitorial/maintenance personnel. The experienced concierge is a wonderful gentleman who has been there since the 2000's and is EXCELLENT. He is very pleasant to work with but even he can not do anything because of the poor management. If you are looking for a nice, comfortable place to call your residence for a period of time DO NOT move into RP. Regents Park is an overpriced apartment complex that has rested on its great views. I am writing this review about my experience moving out of this place, but I had a very similar experience when I moved in. I reserved the service elevator the day I was moving from 11am to 1pm. Well when 11am rolled around the people who had the elevator before us were still moving out and had their UHaul parked in the loading dock. I asked the concierge what was going on and he said they were running late probably and he couldn't kick t hem off. We continued to wait and I went back to the concierge several more times. He called into maintenance to find out what was going on and apparently the people moving got a late start and he said it was like a domino effect. We didn't get the elevator until about 11:45am. I do not think this is acceptable at all, and reflects awful customer service by Regents. The nature of a reservation is so you know you will have the elevator during a particular time period. What if I had hired movers? I would have to be paying them to sit around and wait, which is NOT ACCEPTABLE. So when we finally got the service elevator, we had trouble riding it up to my floor because about half of the buttons on the circuit board do not work. Every single time I wanted to ride the elevator up, I had to run over to the front desk doorman and ask him to call maintenance. I then had to wait 10-15 min for maintenance to come over and reset the circuit board so we could ride up. If you want to take the elevator up for just three trips, this adds 30-45 minutes of wait time. Between a late start and an poorly functional elevator, no wonder it's so hard for people to stay in their two hour window. Still it's not acceptable to make people who are renting vans and hiring movers wait around because Regents can't operate professionally. We asked the building engineer why the elevator did not work, and he just replied that they are old and Regents needs to renovate them. When I moved in the elevators had these problems. In the almost three years I was in Regents, they have renovated every hall way, the business center, the coffee shop, and the gym. None of the aforementioned things needed renovation because they were all more than functional. The SERVICE ELEVATORS DESPERATELY NEED MAINTENANCE. REGENTS IS ALL ABOUT APPEARANCES. The management renovates the areas you will see on your tour so you think the building is nice, and then you will move in and find older appliances, a bad ventilation system, passenger elevators that are slow and constantly need repair, and of course, service elevators in desperate need of a breath of life. Perhaps the service elevator will finally kick the bucket and somebody will get stuck or hurt. Maybe then, Regents will wake up and realize how they really should maintain their building. read more

The management staffs and leasing agents are horrible. I have been here for 4 years and I cannot wait to graduate next year and move out. They figured out all ways to charge you and eat their own words. If they forget some of your fees they will happily send you penalties later because the fact not charging you correctly was your own fault in their thinking. Fighting back for your own right is useless. The staff here has high turnover ratio as some people disappear after a few months leaving or being fired. Help your friends do not refer them here. When I still had hope with the management I have referred some people to the building, however either I never receive my referral bonus or I need to fight it like crazy - they have all means to deny it if you don't have writing records showing the referrals. read more

If it weren't for one, really big thing, I would give this place 5 stars. BUT... they have been doing construction on the facade of the building which makes them do construction from around 8 in the morning until end of business, five days a week sometimes on Saturdays. I have lived here since Fall 2013. They never informed me that there would be issues with construction noise. During the colder months, they stop the construction which is why I never noticed it when I first moved. Then once it got warmer, it started.... LOUD jackhammering sounds from what sounds like is directly into my ceiling. Non stop....all...day....long. And I mean, SO LOUD that the walls sometimes shake! This was for about 6 months during my first year here. I was almost not going to renew, but I was told that it would be finished soon. Since moving would end up being quite expensive for me and on top of that, who likes moving? So I made the decision to renew.... My rent even INCREASED....and low and behold, I now wake up to the sounds of jackhammering AGAIN. And with absolutely NO compensation since it is the city making them do the repairs to the facade. UMMmmmm that is complete BS. Oh and they say "well they only work when everyone is already at work." Not everyone goes to work at 7am! I sometimes don't go to work until noon. Somedays I work from home, which I should be allowed to do!! I do not pay 1500 a month on a graduate student salary so I can sleep poorly and be forced out of my own apartment for half the year because of the incessant noise. 1500 a month should at the very minimum come with PEACE AND QUIET. I wanted to live here because the amenities, beautiful location, and wonderful staff were supposed to make my time in grad school easier and less stressful. I was willing to pay more for these things. Now I wake up every day crying, sleep deprived, and wanting to scream. I understand if construction needs to be done and it might disturb you for a couple weeks, every now and then. But it should not be for half the year! And they should be truthful about it instead of trying to trick you into moving in or renewing! I just googled this to see if I was the only one who complains, and found a blog post from 2005!!!! THEY HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR OVER 10 YEARS!!!!! Don't live here until you can get an absolute confirmation that the facade construction is FINISHED FOREVER!!! END RANT. I used to live here. People tend to exaggerate with their reviews about this place. See and experience it for yourself, it's actually decent. My friends and I miss some aspects of Regents (the views, the restaurant, pool, card operated laundry, gym, efficient maintenance team, etc). What I don't miss are: - People constantly scratching my car in that garage (honestly, you've GOT to wonder where some people learn to "drive" from) -The smell of marijuana seeping into my apartment - Expensive rent (sorry, you're better off staying downtown for the price) - Extremely rude staff/leasing agents (not the people working at the front desk, they're great), there's one lady in particular, not sure if she works there still, Tracy! Avoid this apartment. I was stocked in elevator 4 times in this year. They did not apology not at all. Service is terrible. When we moved in this building, they gave us the wrong address. Some of our package went to the wrong building. Fortunately, the residents brought them to us. But I cannot get my driver license. When I claim about it, the stuff said it is very common in this building. Also, tough we paid the rental fee, the strange paper that forces us to pay again came to us. If you are thinking of living here, just know that there are only 4 elevators in each building, they are very slow, and always broken. During rush hour (7-9am and 4-7pm) expect to regularly wait 20 minutes before you're able to get into a packed elevator. Not exactly what you look forward to after s long day. read more

The good: 1. The door staff. They are incredibly sweet, especially the one who wishes everyone a happy day when they walk through the door. And the good looking one. He is extremely good looking. 2. The daytime parking attendant. I wish I knew his name (Gino, maybe?), but he is incredible. Extremely kind, friendly, and helpful. He deserves a 10,000% raise. 3. Location by the lake is great, especially if you like to run on the lakefront. Location in Hyde Park, however, leaves something to be desired. 4. Surprisingly spacious apartments. I was shocked by how big the studio apartments are. Shocked. The Bad: 1. The gym. Yikes is it small. Yikes is the fluorescent lighting bad. And one treadmill doesn't work. And the TVs apparently can only be set to ESPN or CNN. 2. Market in the Park. It pains me to list this one as bad, as the guys who work there are so nice. But I bought a box of cereal there one time that had bugs in it and the store could definitely use some TLC. Since then, I have only bought things from them that have an air tight seal and haven't had a problem. Their alcohol selection, however, is very impressive for a grocer of their size. The Unbearable: 1. The elevators. The system they are on makes NO SENSE. I know people who have waited for a full 30 minutes to get one elevator. Yet there always seems to be several hovering around the 34th floor, not moving, just waiting, expecting, hoping. For what, I do not know. In short, they are cramped, old, and in no way adequate to service a building of this size. 2. The parking. Despite the presence (grace, magnetism, equanimity) of Blessed Gino (?), the Parking God, the parking in this building is absurd. The nighttime parking attendant is rude rude rude. And if you get an unassigned space, you had better be a parking ninja. Otherwise, I have no idea how you would get in and out. In sum, I lived here for a year. When I moved here, I was new to Chicago and looking for something that would be reliable. I suppose it could have been much, much worse. But suffice it to say, I am glad to be leaving. read more

Greatest features = front desk personnel, who are kind, nice, and hard-working, and who keep the building secure by not letting strangers in. Apartment has great windows and nice carpet. Good location near Lake Shore Drive. If you don't need Lake Shore, there are less expensive, larger, nicer apartments if you look in Hyde Park. Cons = horrible office staff who are extremely nice but completely useless when issues arise that are not maintenance-related. Noise issues from neighbors on ocassion, smoke-filled hallways leak into apartments, long waits for elevators, double-booking freight elevator (meaning you aren't allowed to use it) for moves when you have paid for movers to come. I've never lived in a high-rise previously and will never do so again after my experiences here. read more

Okay, let me first say that Regents Park is not Luxury apartment complex. The floors, kitchen and baths are dated from the late 70's to mid 80's. The carpet is the lowest of quality, within two months, the carpet is so slick, you can skate on it. The management office is so unprofessional and dishonest that it's hard to believe that they have remained employed. ( by the way, I just heard that they just changed owners and the staff was fired. It couldn't have happened to a more deserving group!). It is not my wish for bad things to happen to people, but what you do in life has a way of coming back to you. The building is way overpriced for the amenities they offer. yes they have a health club, but you pay for it. They also have a fee for central air and heating and while they say it is capped at 70.00 depend Ing on the overall usage. Every month the bill was 70.00 regardless of the month. In April, May Sept Oct when the weather is mild, where the air hasn't been turned on or the heat is still off, the bill is always 70.00. very suspect unless the tenants pay for the common areas and management offices. I did appreciate the doormen, they were great along with the garage attendants. they were always professional and helpful. The last comment I have is there are mostly students that live in the building. I truly felt I was in an oversized dorm. I was told by management that in order to fill the apartments they negotiated with the U of C students and they are given a steep discount for their apartments. I learned also that management put full paying tenants on high floors so they could maximize rent payments and many students were on lower floors. When I opted to move into a larger apt, they initially told me the 31st floor was the only three bedroom available. I later found out they had the same apt on the 8 floor. I lived at Regents for five years and am ready to write a comprehensive review after experiencing and seeing a lot of change here. I lived in high rises before and prefer them for safety and security. I read through previous reviews and agree with some and read dramatic reviews by others. Let's start with the pros and cons and end with what you should know. * The pros: o Location, location, location. Regents is conveniently located right on the lake so is a quick 3-minute walk to the lake front which is great to walk your dog, run, or stroll during nicer weather. Access to Lake Shore Dr is just as close. The bus and the Metra line are less than a block away with convenient and quick access downtown. The walkability of Hyde Park is fantastic. Whole Foods and Marshall's opened up less than two blocks away which is definitely a plus. A park with tennis courts is also across the street and I started taking tennis lessons there last spring. Again, just right outside my door. o Regents has a dry-cleaners, a market, a gym, a pool, and a decent Terrace Grill. You can literally take care of errands without leaving the building which is great during cold winter months or bad weather. The package pickup center is great as I do not have to worry about packages being taken while I'm at work. The gym is actually pretty decent when compared to other high rise apartments I lived in and have seen. It is smaller than before, but it provides most of what I need. The gym is also a great place to get to know other building residents who also frequent the gym. As a regular of this gym, I see how busy it can get and it is definitely used by the residents so I it would be great if management kept the machines in working order and keep up with the equipment. Benches and mats are ripped, tattered, and torn, only one treadmill has a working TV screen. The treadmills get used so much that they may need to be replaced as some are constantly out of order. I would also want to have a sign for age restriction unaccompanied by adults as kids tend to want to hang out there and play with the equipment and weights which is an accident waiting to happen. o The pool is great and is a treat to have. I swim in the pool often and have no complaints. A section of the pool is reserved for lap swimming which I use. I never felt uncomfortable with residents in the pool area and the pool has always been clean in contrast to other people's reviews. I grew up with a pool and know this pool is kept in good shape. Since it is a private pool, it does not need a lifeguard, although I would put a sign up saying no lifeguard on duty and have an age restriction of being unaccompanied by an adult. o The market is great for when I forgot that one ingredient for making my meal or when I just want a bottle of wine. It smells like mop water but the staff there are super friendly and it does the job which is to be convenient. o The laundry machines went through renovations and had some hiccups which are what I expect with such a high volume building, but maintenance comes to address the issue within a few minutes after reporting the issue so I have no complaints. I have not seen the North Tower laundry room dirty except for the random dryer sheet of forgotten sock on the floor which is normal. o In my experience, the elevators are standard with other high rises I lived in and with the experiences my friends have living in high rises downtown. To live in a high rise is to wait for an elevator for a few minutes. I just leave my apartment ten minutes earlier to make sure I make my train or bus. The elevator does make mystery stops or may miss my floor which is annoying, but it is rare and nothing new from living in other high rises. o The front desk and maintenance staff are stellar. Maintenance is quick and they are always willing to answer any question when you see them around. Working from home, I see them clean the hallways weekly which is fine to me. If something needs to be picked up, I just put a request in and it gets done. The front desk staff are great and have a tough job managing all that happens in a front desk with two building towers and over 2,000 residents. o I have also experienced a lot of what other reviews have stated including the terrible construction that went on that made my life miserable for a while. There was no empathy from management. Living at Regents has been much better since the construction ended so I am glad it's over. * Now for the suggested areas of improvement: o Spiders are a city-wide problem for high rises which is painfully annoying during the summer when they are out in full force. It would be great if the windows were washed more frequently in the summer because it is pretty disgusting to look out the window filled with spider webs and dead bugs trapped in the webs. o The two towers have one security guard at night which is not enough for such a large facility with over 2,000 residents. Where do I begin? No doubt the worst choice I have made all year was moving into this Bldg. I absolutely can't wait to move out. Ok, the elevators are scary as hell and you are taking a chance every single time you get inside. The elevator either doesn't go to the correct floor, or the door half opens or the door won't open. The wait time for an elevator is at least 15 min so plan accordingly. Also in order to do laundry you must have a credit card and it will charge you $10 at first then the charges fall off later. Many times taking the stairs is a faster option than the actual elevator. Do yourself a favor and do not move here. You can find better in the area. read more

I've yet to sign a lease with Regents Park, but the Mac Properties staff was particularly hospitable during my viewing and very responsive during subsequent follow-ups about certain units. Collectively, they epitomized the kind of introductory presence that ensures an enjoyable experience. I'll be paying more than I would like for a studio apartment at Regents Park, but the amenities and location more than satisfy what it is I'm looking for in a living space in Chicago. read more

(DO NOT MOVE TO A MAC PROPERTY SITE) there is 2 stars for regents park for a reason. They are the worst management company out there. The company does not care about anyone. When you ask a question they give you the same rehearsed answer. Regents park is a shit hole. The door attendant service is a joke. They do not wear a uniform. The Leasing agents are complete idiots. Jennifer Eaton, Desiree Bishop, and Ken Hall are agents with very bad attitudes. The lies and the unprofessional service they display is horrible. Ms. Eaton will tell you one thing then do on signing day she tells you another thing. Then after signing you find out she really didn't know what she was talking about. She also does not like if you ask her to many questions. She will give you the WTF I just told you that face. Ms. Bishop has no clue what she is doing as she is a new leasing agent and has to keep going back to her bosses for clarifications which is annoying. And mr. hall is very cocky and will not call you back. All they care about is closing a deal and will lie to you to get it done. The resident services team does not take responsibility. When something breaks. The dog door continues to break. The elevators are so fucked up people get stuck for 2 hours and the fire department has to come get them out. They wait till something is broken and then they fix it. The elevators while going up or down sound like parts are falling off. The apartments are a joke for the high rent. Walls are not professionally painted. The tiles and everything else is old and needs to be replaced. They no longer have a grocery store but they still advertise it. The parking garage gate stays broken. The maintenance staff are not on point with cleaning. The pictures they posted was on days they actually decided to clean up. They say the building is smoke free but people are always smoking weed in the building. They say they do background checks but a lot of shady criminals live there. They send you emails about bullshit but when you come to them about a problem they don't want to do anything about it. You send multiple requests to speak to Samantha (property manager) and she doesn't know how to get back to you and will not. All around it's a very bad experience and regents isn't the only building like that. Everything Mac properties touch is garbage. read more

Pros: Great views and close to the lake. Cons: Pretty much everything else. Worth knowing: MAC property (manages Regents Park) gets an 'F' rating from the Better Business Bureau. I wish I had thought of looking this up before renting with them. This starts to make more sense why we've had such a bad experience with the management/leasing personnel. I moved in to "luxury" Regents Park just over a month ago and, great views and easy access to the lakefront aside, have been repeatedly disappointed by myriad issues. Although the leasing office personnel may seem friendly and helpful to someone stopping in to view the property it would seem that they don't have a good idea about the reality of living in the building. Things went downhill from the moment we signed the lease. Are the following consistent with a building that advertises itself as 'luxury'? A few highlights from our tenure thus far in Regents Park: -We had movers driving a truck from the East Coast. Regents Park has a 'policy' (which we weren't told about until after signing the lease. Furthermore, E in the leasing office had reassured me that move-in would be "really flexible" and "not a problem at all") of only allowing a two-hour block of time per day to use the elevator for moving. I have never encountered such a ludicrous short-sighted policy and I've lived in my share of non-"luxury" apartments. Needless to say, our movers couldn't get the job done in a mere two hours (didn't help that surly "concierge" S showed up late and we were repeatedly interrupted by maintenance staff) and we were then chastised by surly S for using other elevators. This could easily have been prevented by not having such a short-sighted inflexible move-in 'policy'. -Two weeks to get mailbox keys? Ridiculous....and then to have management tell us that they can't give us access to our mailbox in the interim? That our only option was to manage to intercept the postal worker with the hope that he/she would give us access? -Every single time (literally every single time, at least five or six times now) we have done laundry we have had to call maintenance for issues of washers and/or dryers malfunctioning and not being labeled as such (there are more machines out of order than there are 'out of order' signs available.....not a good sign!). Every time there are a number of washers that are tagged as being 'out of order' and multiple more that are clearly out of order (eg pools of standing scummy water) and others that the unfortunate tenants do not discover are out of order until we come to transfer our clothes from washers to dryers. Each time I've done laundry at least one of the washers malfunctions: when I go to transfer clothes from washer to dryer the washer is either full of water that the clothes are just sitting in or the water has drained but the clothes are covered in detergent. This is endlessly frustrating not to mention a waste of money and time. Today when this happened I called the 'concierge' (surly S yet again) though had to try calling six times before he picked up to request that maintenance come and pay for a re-attempt at a washer. I ended up waiting 32 minutes (yes, I counted as this is tremendously frustrating) before maintenance arrived to start the machine. (Please note that I don't fault the maintenance guy at all. Every time he is apologetic and encourages me to keep complaining to management etc: how can he possibly attend to all the issues going on in both the north and south towers? This is management's problem which needs to be tended to.) Now I'm in the middle of another 40 minute wait to see if this washer actually works or not...so what should have been a total of a 90 minute process to wash and dry clothes is now in excess of 200 minutes...and it's not done yet.This is recurrently beyond frustrating: I've complained to management before yet they seem impotent to do anything. In the midst of this process today I went up to speak with management....only to see that the office is closed today. I then went down to the leasing office as that seemed to be the only option: I was very frustrated and was speaking in an exercised manner but they were condescending and rude in return. C was, as ever, unhelpful; this was the first time I have encountered P. Despite his attitude of supreme condescension he assured me that he would follow-up and do 'everything he could' to address the situation. I'm not too optimistic; despite assuring me that he would be in contact via email today I haven't yet received the courtesy of follow-up. If conditions improve I'll certainly update this review. In the meantime if you're looking to rent in Hyde Park please look elsewhere (eg non-MAC). read more

Pros: close to the university, great view, safe building and easy access to public transportation, nice valet and maintenance stuff Cons: horrible management, appalling attitude, extremely unhelpful. If you consider moving in, do make sure you get everything down on paper. They say one thing and do another. Different staff say different things so you may want to check with a few of them to make sure. They feel perfectly comfortable ignoring your emails and complaints. You feel like you need to constantly take measures to protect your interest for fear that the management would take advantage of you - not the kind of homey or relaxed feeling you'd expect to have with a supposedly big modern professional residential property management. Overall: If you are with the university, then it's probably still a good choice, it's just that you have to be very very careful. read more

Regents was a good place to live-- if you have to be in Hyde Park. My boyfriend and I lived there for a year while he was going to law school, and I didn't have any complaints. The employees were always nice and responsive. I liked the common room and the fact that the #6 bus stop was really close. The Market in the Park was often times a lifesaver too. Negatives are the suuuuper expensive gym and that they seemed to take forever with renovation projects. We moved to Gold Coast this year, but mostly because we were tired of not having anything to do/being afraid to go out in Hyde Park. read more
