You can get anything from camping gear, hiking shoes, backpacks, bikes, rock climbing gear, hiking clothes, you name it. Once you get started here, you won't stop! 100% customer satisfaction if you don't love the product or it wasn't what you expected it to be, REI will give you a full refund. Of course within reason. Don't be the jerk that buys a camping stove 12 years ago and brings it in and complains that it doesn't work anymore and expects a full refund. YES, I'VE SEEN THIS HAPPEN. I need a pump for my SUP so I went to REI. Two employees,Matt and Paul were very helpful. They carried my deflated paddleboard inside and found the pump that would fit it correctly. I even asked if they would inflate it since it has been a while since I used it and they were very cooperative in doing that for me. I have been an REI co-op member for a LONG time. Let's face it, my hair is turning grey and I have been a member since college. This new location, while a greater distance from my house than the previous location, is HUGE and the wide open feel of the place is really nice. I think the flow of the store is better than the last one and the fitting room area is a dramatic improvement -- think master bathroom in your house vs. port-o-john by the side of the road better. I appreciate the quality of the products they have and the ability to purchase on the website then have it shipped to the store for FREE... and the convenience of being able to return to the store anything that I purchased either at the store or online. They have been steadily building out their trail running selection over the past few years and they've got a good set of really nice products that I have been really happy with: Altra shoes, Patagonia clothing and Balega socks to name a few. read more

New Location For An Old Favorite! REI is one of my favorite outdoor suppliers for quality products at reasonable prices. I used to go to the Tempe location they closed to make this bigger newer and nicer location which is also more conveniently located off the I-10 freeway next to World Market. It seems most of the same friendly staff from the old store is now at the new store. The layout is much more friendly and easy to navigate and it seems the selection has increased in several areas as well. The bigger store make the shopping experience even better here. Whether it's rock climbing, kayaking, camping, bicycling or any other outdoor sport REI usually has you covered for at least the basics. They have a much larger online inventory that you can also pickup at the store with ease. They also have a good selection of hiking shoes and boots with experience outdoor staff to make good recommendations. I would just like them to provide a little bit larger in store rock climbing selection. They always have a rather small selection compared to some more intense rock climbing shops. They have the most liberal return policy I have ever heard of and pretty much do anything to make you happy which I feel some people like the football returning the camping stove be bought 10 years prior after he ran it over with his car.... That's getting carried away.... They have a good bike selection too! All in all though this is one of the best outdoor suppliers I have seen in the USA. read more

Like most REIs, this co-op was clean and the personnel were very knowledgeable and helpful. BUT... this REI has the worst and most cluttered layout of any that I've been too(a lot). It was a maze with no assemblage of walking isles. The aimless wanderer may feel at home but most people will find it hard to get to or locate what they want. The key to paying a reasonable price is using coupons, getting sales, and utilizing the membership dividend(10% back). Although I've never used the 1yr. return policy, I hear the REI is very accommodating. read more

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. I understand businesses have the right to require and enforce masks, and as I don't wear one, I respect when I'm asked to leave the establishment. My issue is, I have NEVER been treated so poorly by a business! I was allowed in by the lady at the front and we even said hi to each other. By the time I got to the back of the store, a worker approached me about wearing a mask, I said "no thank you", then he became rude, talked over me, and told me to leave. I said Okay, thank you and made my way toward the front of the store (where I was let in...) By the time I reached the front I had 3 MALE WORKERS in aggressive postures cornering me out the door all telling me to leave as I was literally on my way out! I don't care what your views are, a business should NEVER treat a customer like this. Again, It's a business's right to enforce masks or not, and for someone who doesn't wear them, I have been refused service at the entrance many times which I respect, but do not follow and force me out like a criminal. Never will I shop at an REI and as a manager of a large retail store myself with the same clientele, I would NEVER treat my customers like this. Shame on you REI. read more

I spent almost an hour with Jacob in shoes the other day. He really took initiative to search for a hiking boot that would work for me. Eventually even moving to the clearance rack. Unfortunately the boot that had the best fit for me was $200 more than I had anticipated causing me to step back and think about my needs and use. I ended up benching my decision for a time. No fault of his at all. Just felt the need to drop a line recognizing exceptional customer care. Way to go Jacob! I've never received such exceptional service previously at REI, though I have never shopped at this particular location previously. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this store. I walked in ready to shop for some hiking gear and came out a very happy customer. The service and help I received was outstanding. The only other place I am treated this well is at my Forbes 4 star hotel and spa. From Michael helping me find the best backpack, gloves and hat to Kennedy helping me with shoes to Karen at check out. Everyone super nice and knowledgeable but not "phoney". I had been thinking about buying a "bladder pack" and Michael had me wear one with a weight inside of it so I could experience the feel of the weight. Since I am a beginner and only hike a few miles at the moment it helped me decide the bladder pack was not what I needed right now (too heavy for me!) I would have been so angry had I gotten the bladder pack and had to lug it around in the hills. I'm sure I could buy my gear at a less expensive store, but I am happy to buy at a place where I am treated with great service and top quality items. read more

Such a great experience coming into the store and always being greeted! We were looking for a hydro flask in a specific color which they didn't have on display. Jeff I believe was the gentleman that helped us that day. He had such great energy and showed us all the areas they would be. Luckily the color we wanted was ON SALE because the warehouse sends them 1/2 off sometimes! We had to buy 2 and then get a straw lid. This place is always stocked (when we have gone in) and very organized! Everyone is super friendly and have such great knowledge with different outside activities. Never disappointed here! REI knows what they're doing! I had received a pair of hiking shoes for Christmas that I needed to exchange for a different size. I went to the store that they were purchase from and was disappointed that there's no assistance in the hiking shoe department there. I decided to check out REI and am so glad I did! Not only are they practicing COVID safety with reduced capacity in the shoe areas, but they have a huge selection of hiking shoes and boots, and are very helpful in getting you fitted. I tried on several pair, had a hard time deciding and the sales associates helped by providing me more information about each shoe and asking questions about my activities. I'll definitely be back for my next pair of shoes, and can't wait to check out all the rest of the cool merchandise they sell! read more

Oh REI, how much I love thee. Stopping by REI always makes my day, and burns a hole in my pocket, though definitely worthwhile as evidenced by my continual patronage. The staff are exceedingly knowledgeable, helpful, and enthusiastic whenever I've had a question and I always walk away feeling like I've learned something new. Whenever I'm inquiring about a certain item, I've never felt pressured to buy anything but always felt more informed to make my decision on whether I needed the item I walked in with the intention of buying or what to look out for in said item. Their return policy is also amazing with allowances for returns up to a year (never personally pushed it that far though) and to join the co-op, it's merely $20 for a lifetime, not annual, membership. I'm an REI fan for decades now, we used to rent camping equipment from them when I was in college, and it remains my go-to for many of my active supplies. They are expensive, and I love the big Dick's as much as the next gal, but, REI's return policies are hard to beat. This new store is large, and I've seen some familiar faces from the previous location. Ordering online and picking up in the store (or returning) is super easy. People line up before the store opens for the Bi Annual Garage Sales, which offer great bargains. The one time fee to join the Co-Op pays for itself within the first year if you shop with any regularity, and they send your rewards check annually. I've recently been debating a hydration pack for summer long run training, and will probably grab one sooner than later, knowing that if I hate it a return isn't a problem. While their clothing and gear tend to be $$$ the selection is great. So, while I'll always fancy big Dick's, Big 5, etc, and get my running kicks fitted elsewhere, I'll remain a fan and customer of REI forevvs. Big Dick's aren't everything, people ;) read more

Not once were we greeted nor in almost all the departments. I came looking for running shoes and the two gentlemen staffers ignored me, along with the outdoor camping/cookware dept. As one of the most up to date stores I have recently visited, you can learn from the Tucson store. There you experience great customer service and are always greeted at the door. This was a typical REI store for the back packers, runners, outdoors people with very high prices. Even one if my nieces made a comment that you get good bargains in their clearance or returned items because the regular price is too high. They have all the outdoor equipment you could think of. I was with my son and his roommate, so they bought some shoes and gloves for hiking/back packing. I over heard some guy training two new employees about walking sticks, and then told them to tell their customers to never leave and if their equipment in the garage. Kirk immediately greeted us and took an extensive amount of time telling us about the features of each carrier. He gave ce us a ton of tips on how to adjust the carrier to fit both my husband and I. He was very knowledgeable and we appreciated that it didn't feel like he was in a rush and there was no pressure to buy. The store is very clean and organized. I love this store. Knowlege and expertise is what you pay for. Quality goods with friendly staff that demonstrate products and gives great insight based on what you need for your type of trip. Day hike, backpacking in and tenting vs drive and camping all require different needs. Water resistant breathable hiking boots or trail running shoes for rock hopping? I have never had a bad experience at this location. They offer a wide variety of products and services and it is a fairly large location. I have attended a few of the classes, purchased a few items, and returned a few items. The issues I have are the prices (retail is always hard to justify), and the selection; if they offer a certain item its limited in sizes, colors, or functionality. Worst R.E.I. Experience ever. Manager attitude was poor, which explains the 3 different employees who also had other things on their agenda then customer service. Didn't care that I was in pain and wanted to put an item I was buying up at the counter while I continued to shop, since I wasn't being lazy but actually in pain, I took it badly when they defended the policy. Super small thing that they could have handled a bunch of customer focused ways but opted to be LAZY the core value of customer service. Had to come in last minute to pick up a gift I ordered online and came to find out the order had been cancelled. The three people helping me (Karen, Gabe, and Russ) were extremely attentive and helpful, as they had the item I originally ordered in stock and I was able to purchase I already enjoy shopping at REI but they made my last minute Christmas Eve pickup easy and effortless! My favorite place to come although I get in trouble every time I come it's like Costco you can't leave without spending a couple hundred bucks and at the shop here enough getting nice cash back at the end of the year fisher cat hundred fifty or so not too bad just more and send them to do outdoorsy things and their clearance items are sometimes you really good deals unlike Cabela's broken s*** in their clearance room I would say for outdoor stuff definitely REI over Cabela's Sportsman's or anything like that read more

I had the worst experience shopping for hiking boots. I was determined and prepared to drop a couple hundred dollars on a pair, but ended up walking out. The salesperson was the most unhelpful, unfriendly, crab of a man. When I suggested I prefer ankle support in a hiking boot he literally laughed at me in the most condescending way. According to him, boots offer no ankle support. Maybe that's true, but is that a way to treat a customer?? Insane. I will never go back. read more
