I have been drawn to REI (Recreation Equipment Inc.). Regardless that my body could be working in Las Vegas, my spirit is in the hiking trails. Oftentimes at the District, I'd stop by REI. A visit to REI is stepping inside a toy store for outdoor recreationists. I always imagined joining REI to buy quality hiking boots and a camelback to survive the backcountry. Never in a million years did I think I'd join REI to survive a walk across a suburban parking lot. Recently I have suffered from Planters Fasciitis (abbreviated PF) . It is an injury where your arch and heel bone weakens [1][2]. This is the Athlete's Curse. Or in my case, the Hiker's Curse. It is pain that I wouldn't wish on a troll. When in fact a few months ago, Mary Jane Falls was a challenge, recently the suburban parking lot is. After an unfavorable visit with Apache Foot Care, I upped my fight against PF with Superfeet insoles and Ankle brace. I still suffered. If you read my hiking reviews you could understand the physical and mental agony this was causing [3]. The next method of attack was hiking boots suitable for PF. On Sunday I drove all over the southeast Valley on the search for PF hiking boots. I found zilch in the outlets and Sear's. REI appeared to be the best option. I was in hopes of the boot getting me through a suburban parking lot, restoring my left foot, and ultimately carrying me up to the summit of Turtlehead Peak. As soon as I limped in the door, a cheerful employee helped me. In the hiking boots department, another helpful employee intimidated a purchase of hiking boots with thick insoles. I was optimistic this was a Christmas present well spent. Upon purchase, the cashier let me know of the benefits of REI membership without being aggressive. Discouragingly, PF was winning the battle. A couple of days later, I limped back into REI to return the boots. I was amazed by how easy they made the return. Keep in mind that I was wearing the boots for a couple of days and returning it. The woman at the desk made small talk with me as she returned my $. Over and above this, she informed me of the insoles REI sells. My next attack was returning to Foot Solutions for thicker insoles. She directed me to Crystal Marie who was exceedingly helpful. I am impressed by the selection of insoles. O brought the thickest pair. I would leave REI with thicker insoles in my sneakers and REI membership. The $20 lifetime membership includes a yearly check equivalent to %10 of what you spend at REI for a year, invites to members only garage sales, and advantageous return policies. I cannot say that the new insoles are a cure for my PF. They are a weapon against it. Really bad location. It looks like a bunch of apartments but it's an actual store. Not easy to get to, and parking is a mess. Nobody wants to help you once in the store. I'm actually shaking my head. read more

My favorite REI in Vegas! This location is clean and the set up is easy to shop. While I'd like to think of myself as an outdoorsy person, the truth is I'm not. I just enjoy quality items that just make it seem like I go outside and use these items for their intended purpose. Hydroflasks and Yetis are kind of my jam. I own way too many water bottles and coffee cups, but whatever. I also enjoy a good jacket now that I live in a place that actually has cold weather and a mean wind chill. REI has always been the place to go whenever I needed a new Northface jacket for the season. They have bikes, tents, sleeping bags-- you name it. The sales associates are available and helpful! I also like their return policy, very customer friendly service. The only thing that people overlook at REI is there collection of snacks in the front. They sell some interesting beef jerky, chocolate bars, and handcrafted marshmallows. I see you REI! Join their membership program, it is totally worth it. The annual dividends come in handy when you buy your expensive gear! Parking is a breeze if you come on a weekday-- this place is a ghost town. REI is my neighborhood....cool stuff store. I live dangerously close. The staff is very helpful and likes to share traveling adventures with you at the cash register. Some of the things I love about this REI besides convenience: sales (good clearance racks and % off), good selection of products and brands, and of course, a rock in the shoe department to test out climbing and hiking shoes. I also got my camelbak here (there is a wide selection for women). I am now converted into a hiking socks fan - I never was big on socks, but for my birthday this year Eric R. bought me some awesome waterproof Merrell hiking boots and several pairs of REI hiking quarter socks. Now I became a hiking sock junkie and bought wigwam and wright socks to take to Thailand/Cambodia - they ended up being so useful on my honeymoon as I traversed the terrain of an elephant farm, the ruins of Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat, and the general rainy season. I also was given a mission to purchase an affordable rainjacket/windbreaker before the honeymoon. On the clearance rack I found a very nice bright blue one with tons of pockets for under $40. I also like buying clothes here for hiking and casual wear. REI carries many great brands for women, including Lole, Columbia, Prana, Avani, Horny Toad, The North Face, Patagonia, and of course their own brand. I have purchased some great pieces, even things I can use for work. We are REI members so we get special deals and also rack up rewards. When we went to get my hiking boots, we had almost $50 in REI bucks and saved half on the shoes! I love unexpected deals at the register! The membership is worth it if you come here every once in a while. I recently purchased a Columbia dress online because the store did not carry it. I shipped it for free to the store and easily picked it up, tried it on in a dressing room in case I needed to return it - easy peasy. Remember that they prefer not to give you a bag when you check out so bring your own or carry your goods out bag-less! read more

Good store. I needed some thin custom made bungee cords. They were able to accommodate my request at a low price and in quick fashion. Solid customer service. Three downsides were: 1. No soft colored bungee cords. 2. Very ambiguous front door and parking, which is an issue when it's 112F outside. I parked proximate to their FRONT door only to have walk a maze of signage and turns, ultimately directing me to their rear entrance. 3. Too many people asking me to join the REI CO-OP. I don't want to join anything. I just want to buy my stuff and leave. And after a mile of redirecting walking in the brutal heat I'm tired and thirsty, and partially sunburnt. And, what the H does REI stand for? (Russian Extremists Incorporated). It's not on the lengthy receipt, nor anywhere else I can find, only that they're part FSC (Fanatical Syphilitic Cannibals). And why would such an earth-minded store have such lengthy paper receipts? This world is way past due to eliminate all paper receipts entirely. read more

The customer service is AMAZING! We worked today with Dusty to find appropriate orthotics after my podiatrist recommended them for Super Feet inserts. Dusty was very patient, listened to my comments on each insert and shoe until we found the right ones. She probably was with us for almost an hour, tried multiple inserts till we found the right fit. She by no means tried to pressure sell us into Anything. She also knew that inserts need to be worn in short Bursts for the 1st few days until you get used to them. Most podiatrists don't even tell you that. I know due to my profession, and often need to pass that info along to my patients. So was impressed when Dusty knew that. As far as REI. They have a spectacular return policy and want you to wear shoes and inserts and even if inserts are cut for your shoes you have a generous return policy. Special hats off to Dusty! Took my big fat ebike in for its first tune up. I assembled the bike in 2021 with basic tools. The staff was very helpful and pleasant to work with. Got the tune up done in less than 24 hours and sent a text when ready. They held the doors open for me as I rolled the bike out. Excellent price & workmanship. Noticeable improvement. read more

If you like the outdoors, you should have a membership at REI. It costs $20 to join and the benefits are amazing. If you purchase something under your membership and it becomes defective or you decide that you want something different (and it's within a year of purchase), just bring it back. They will give you a replacement at no cost (or hassle) to you. It seems too good to be true; the folks here are out to create customers for life. Every time we walk into this store, we are immediately greeted and assisted. Customer service is important here and it shops. If there is an item you like and they do not have your size, let them know and they will call the other store for you. Enjoy! Twice I've stopped at this REI to buy something that I needed for a midnight marathon. First time was for some reflective gear and this time was for a regular stopwatch. I had forgotten to pack my old trusty stopwatch for the race so I bought the cheapest watch they had. It was a nice Timex Ironman watch. The only thing that I don't like about the watch is that it only stores 30 laps. The watch case was near the cash registers and one of the clerks was happy to help me out with the watch. After he identified the watch, he went into the backroom to grab one for me. He was one of the friendliest clerk that I've ever come across. Come to think of it, they have some of the friendliest employees at this particular REI. Who knows, maybe that's a requirement to work here! :) I would definitely come here again if I forget to pack something else for some future race or trip. read more

We are members of the co-op and the people who work inside this REI are absolutely the rudest staff. We walked in and they wanted us to put a mask on our child. He is not mandated to wear a mask. I like the store's variety and quality of products. However, I would say you should really do you're homework when it comes to buying "basic" items like layering shirts or undergarments. I bought a thermal that was twice as much as another sporting good store after the fact. I did buy some snow boots that I really liked at REI that was a better value there than the other place. I would say like hiking or camping, plan ahead, do you're research, and try to avoid last minute packing/buying. REI has some good sales and like a garage style sale that would save you some money on good products, so keep an eye out for that. Customer service is really helpful too there if you're not sure what to pack, buy, or use. read more

My son got a flat tire while riding today, and i took it into REI to get it repaired. They did an Excellent job repairing it and also replacing his bell that was broken. I will forever be taking my bikes here for any future repairs. The cost was very reasonable as well. read more

Dylan was extremely helpful and really sealed the deal for my husband and I wanting bikes. He saw us looking and came up with a huge smile to see if we needed anything. He let us know about the membership for $20. He was knowledgeable about the whole store and didn't rush us when we asked him a bunch of questions. He pointed us towards the tune up sign when we asked for pricing and he let us know which would be best for the longevity of our bikes. So I called back and talked to Patrick on Monday to follow up on what is happening, he said he talked to both Managers and they agreed to have the part expedited and sent 2nd day which was ordered in Saturday. Patrick said he was off until Thursday and when he comes back in the part will be there, he will call me and I can bring my bike in around lunch time, go get lunch and it would be done by the time I was done eating lunch. Well guess what??? No surprises here only consistency in lying...Thursday came and went and NO CALL FROM PATRICK OR ANYONE ELSE AT REI...you just cannot trust what they say as they have so much business I guess they really don't care about customers...loose a few here and there, the business won't be affected. Obviously management and corporate do not read these reviews...the store itself is an AWESOME store with great products, it just the customer service especially in the bike repair side that is not good. So to finish this, I DON'T enjoy writing bad reviews, I would rather write a positive review. As a Yelp user, we are supposed to write honest reviews about our experience with a business. I have detailed in two reviews the failed promises and lack of customer service this business provides in one area of the store. This REI is a nice store in a nice location. REI caters to the majority of outdoors activities. I come here a lot to browse the climbing gear. Climbing wise the selection is small but that being said there are some quality products. There is also a good variety of outdoor clothing. Price wise REI is expensive compared to other places, many which are online, but in case of emergency and you can't wait for shipping REI does the job. My biggest and main issue with this location is the staff. I am a frequent customer here and the staff have all seen me numerous times. But for some reason every staff member asks me if I am an REI member. As soon as I walk in instead of a "hello sir how are you doing today" I get asked "Are you an REI member?" or do you know about our membership program? When I am looking at gear the staff come by and ask if I am a member instead of asking me if I need any help or have any questions. When I try on climbing shoes I only get asked if I am a member. I don't mind being asked once or twice if I am a member but if that's the only form of customer service I get then that is unacceptable. Every single employee asks me the same question every single time I enter the store. Besides the pushy sales people REI is great for your outdoor needs and it is always fun to stop in and browse. If you are not a member though odds are you will either be brainwashed into paying $20 for the memebership, it is a one time fee though and will pay off if you shop there more than once or twice but if not don't waste $20 no matter how pushy they are. read more

It's what I like to call a Mini-REI. It's the smallest REI store I have seen, and I have shopped many around. The clerk at the store I spoke with even said it's small. The REI on the West Side of Vegas is larger. But it's a beautiful shopping environment in the District. It feels so good here. They are the District's original tenant and have been there for more than 10 years. You feel so good shopping in this store--they have a little of everything so come here to shop if they have what you need. Otherwise they can order it to pick up in the store or home. I am from LA where the two main REI's in Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach are well stocked, but hectic and crowded/crazy many times. I rather shop at the District REI. REI is one of my Top Shopping stores for many years--so check it out if you are not familiar and you may become addicted too. read more

Not the largest REI store in Vegas, but with the absolute BEST help and energy, so I'll choose this location to purchase my adventure needs. I walked in (close to closing time I might add) with the intention to buy a road bike for the first time, and the associate named Jesse greeted me and everyone else he helped with the largest smile. He was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and for coming in with my first time buyer anxiety, he was so patient with my questions and concerns, making the whole process fun and comfortable. Plus their store is co op rather than a publicly traded company. You can become a co op member for $20. That is a one time lifetime member fee. You'll get a percentage of your purchases back annually. Nice! Even if you aren't a member, you can still shop there. I've made many purchases there before I signed up. REI is the place to go when for all things outdoors. They have a wide selection to meet your needs, and your budget ranging from their store brand, to any other you may be looking for. REI brand clothing is of great quality, if you're questioning it. And it may fit your budget a little more. I've purchased some base layers and they are not only comfy, but do the job to keep me warm. Extremely knowledgeable staff are around and if they don't know the answer to your question, then they will find someone who does. They will work with you to help you find what you're looking for. Throughout each month they host classes, taught by the knowledgeable staff mentioned above, ranging in hiking, boot basics, knot tying, biking, etc. All available on the website. Some are free, some are paid classes, but if you're a member, the cost is a little lower than non-member. I enjoy attending the classes, though it may be an area I have no experience in, staff are more than willing to break things down, so you leave with a better understanding. And the classes are also fun and hands on! Also, with membership, you get a dividend at the end of the year. Pretty cool! read more

I'm only giving this place 3 stars because it's probably one of the smaller REI's that I've been to. The selection is considerably smaller than others that I've been to, but maybe that's to be expected in a place that gets so darn hot, it's not as fun to go do stuff outdoors. I went here on 12/23/11 to go buy my little brother a Christmas gift, simply because Bass Pro Shops was too far a drive for me. I quickly found the perfect gift - a bug catching viewer (he's 8 and he loves catching critters!) but there was some looong lines and not all of the registers were open. Great location in The District and connected to The Green Valley Resort and Spa. This REI is very clean and organized so you can easily find everything you need. It is smaller than other REIs I have visited as it is only one level, but it has the basics you would need anyway. The workers are very helpful and friendly! I felt very welcome walking in and shopping here. The parking is ample as it is located in a private lot with plenty of free parking, and if there is a need for more, you can easily park in the structures for the casino / hotel. read more
