Specifically Aaron and Kevin, they were extremely helpful with getting lights for my bike and helping me get the tires that I had ordered on my bicycle. Camping gear and outdoor stuff, this place has it all. If you are into outdoor stuff, this place has a good selection. Now if you buy this kind of gear all the time, it might be a good place to stay loyal too. This is a co-op store, so you the consumer buy into the store and then you are entitled to benefits that come back to you through dividends. As camping gear goes, the prices are just about the same and the staff is very knowledgeable about everything. They are very helpful and available to help out with any questions you might have and if the store doesn't have what you're looking for in stock, they will be glad to help you order it. Having been a member of REI for over a decade, when it's time to get serious about sporting goods and outdoor gear REI is my first supply stop. Recently my wife and I needed gear for a trip to Alaska. We had some very specific technical needs relating to clothing, gloves, and various gear and the staff at REI stepped up to help us find various options. While a trip to REI is not cheap especially with our requirements, the staff recommended products that would perform as well as some of the pricier brands for example with gloves and socks, except they were in some cases half the cost. I'm writing this review after returning from our trip and every piece of gear and equipment that the REI staff recommended to us performed perfectly. In fact after Alaska Airlines lost one of our suitcases, some of the clothing the REI staff recommended became our primary clothing and still kept us warm despite stepping out of the airport into 5 degree temps without heavy coats. We definitely put their recommendations to the test in Alaska. 5 Stars. Great staff. Great products. Reasonable prices. And they back their products if you ever have any issues with them. One of the perks of living in Las Vegas, especially during the winter with milder temps, is the unlimited access to the outdoor recreational activities abound. If you run, paddle, bike, camp or hike, REI is the place to be. This place ooozes adventure and i just love it here. The prices are higher but you get what you pay for. I.E. your also getting great advice, top brands and top selection, especially when shopping for my REI backpack. The guy helping me really took his time to make sure i was properly fitted and i got 40% off on sale over memorial day. Being a member here is totally worth it and service levels are top notch. Right up there with Nordstroms. They really do have great sales and thats the time to buy. Moreover, REI has a great return policy. They will roll out the returned items several times a year which was the time I seized the opportunity to pickup a Yakima hitch mounted 4 bike carrier for well over 50% off. Score!! Just remember when you out in the middle of nowhere, all alone, its better to not sacrifice quality over price if that makes sense. read more

I use to have a hard time shopping here because if their high prices. I just recently started to come in every once in a while to have a peek at their merchandise. REI is like Nordstrom (in my opinion). They only offer the best sporting equipment along with knowledgeable and helpful staff. They also guarantee you will love your purchase and no questions asked returns! It's nice to see companies offer this, trusting their clientele won't abuse the privilege. A few weeks ago I purchased cycle shoes and was totally clueless the pedal adapters were not included. I went back in and the employee not only helped me find what I needed, he offered to put them on for me and explained how to properly use the shoes. It's nice to be treated good without having to ask. I also joined their membership. It's a lifetime membership with great perks including discounts, sneek peaks and so much more. Darn you REI for being so expensive, but sometimes you need to take price over quality or selection into consideration. I do my research online for products that I want to buy and then go into the store to take a look at the items in person. I bought some hiking boots recently this way. The staff has been friendly, knowledgeable, and excited about helping me find what I need each time I go in. The store is laid out in a neat and easily accessible way. Make sure to check out their sales when seasons change. Getting the dividend check at the end of the year is always a treat. read more

They used to have knowledgeable people who were excited about the gear they sell. I end up having to google items in the store to find answers because the staff don't know and just seem to care about selling memberships. The size runs in this store are getting worse. If you are small or xl you should be ok, but god forbid they stock a medium or large in the mens department. If you wear a 32-34" pant just order online. Even if it says they are in stock, you won't find them in the store. So if I want to buy a pair of shorts that the website says are in stock, I go to the store.... check the rack to see they are not actually in stock. Try to find an employee, tell them I'm already a member, wrestle them to the ground as they try to run away instead of offering actual service, they go check the computer to tell me they should have one in stock and did I check the rack, then offer to have it shipped to the store for free. It will take a week to arrive and costs more than Amazon that can have it to my door in 2 days. Why do I keep coming back? read more

The absolute worst. This is the place where you go to physically inspect an item, but purchase it elsewhere. Not only are they INCREDIBLY overpriced, but the staff are completely incompetent. I was "fitted" for a backpack by three different people on three separate visits and they all gave me different sizes and got offended when I questioned there measurements. This REI told me Tuesday night or Wednesday morning for my snowboard to be waxed. Tuesday night I call and it took them 10 minutes to find my board, but alas not done yet but tell me it'll be done by the next morning (Wednesday). Wednesday night I drive to this REI and I get "uh, it's not done yet". Manager comes out and says it's not done and "won't cost me anything". I ask him if anything has been even been done to it. He replies no. Of course it won't cost me anything! No one has even looked at it since I dropped it off on Monday afternoon! Why would it cost anything to begin with! Great, so I guess I'll go somewhere else AFTER my snowboarding trip. Manager tries to convince me that the board "isn't in bad shape". Yeah, it might not be to you, but I'm going 4 full days to an out of town resort and I wanted it waxed. I'll get my board waxed in Tahoe where they can do it that afternoon (con of visiting a city that isn't big on winter sports). read more

Tim was the primary employee that helped me pick some hiking boots, he approached me right away when he saw me examining the shoe wall. I love that an employee was there to quickly introduce themselves, rather than me blankly starting at the wall waiting for someone to come over. Cynthia was the secondary helper in my shopping adventure. Both persons were very knowledgeable about parts of the shoe, as well as conditions in which you would wear certain types, the fit, and accessories that go along. Buying the appropriate shoe and something of liking is no easy task; it can be time consuming. Cynthia and Tim had all the patience sticking around the whole nine yards, and offering their advice the entire time. I appreciate how invested they were in helping me. Every time I leave REI, I always leave more educated than I was going in. read more

John was amazing. On a business trip to Las Vegas, my wife and I made the trek to REI hoping for solid advice as we prepare to begin backpacking again. Since everything about the gear has changed, we were hoping to find someone over-the-top knowledgeable. We did. John asked great questions, listened carefully, confirmed that he understood, and then made great recommendations for packs, tent, and sleeping gear. One of the best customer experiences I've had in years. I've placed the order for everything John recommended, fitted us with, and demonstrated. REI is opening a store this fall in Burlington Vermont. They could do no better than get John to relo and anchor that new store. read more

It's Day 1, you're just off the plane, hiking along gorgeous red rocks. You've had a decent hike, on the way back to the car now, when suddenly, you step on something . . . weird. You look down, and are utterly dismayed to find that half of the sole of your right hiking boot has come unglued and is flopping under itself. A la MacGyver, your best friend whips out a rubber hair-tie which you fasten around the toe to hold the boot together for the remainder of your journey. You delicately hobble the remainder of the hike back to the car, wondering how the next few days of hiking are going to look with this floppy, poor excuse for foot protection. Enter, REI. Thank god we found one, as I certainly don't know Las Vegas very well, but I do know REI. I was in and out in 15 minutes, replaced my beloved (and worn) old sturdies with a spiffy new set of Vasques, which, by the way, needed no breaking in at all. I wore them right out of the store, only took them off at night over the next several days and had not even a single red spot to show for all my desert hiking. REI you saved me from days of stubbornly hiking around on my back-up option, which, even in my mind's best version still amounted to me limping around on a tangled mess of duct tape, hair ties and old rubber. Me thinks that would've ended badly. read more

Let it be known I hate being outdoors. Camping and hiking give me the hives and the idea of biking is awful to me. This store isn't for folks like me - I get it. Unfortunately, my friends and family aren't all committed to my outdoors-free existence and from time to time I find myself in places like this. I came here for ski stuff specifically. While I know REI doesn't specialize in ski gear, they do have certain stores designated as "ski stores" . The one by my house isn't a ski store, but this one way the hell far away from me is. Ok, I make the drive and imagine my surprise to find 4 freaking pairs of ski boots! A sad selection of ski socks, a terrible selection of skiis! WTF REI. I used to shop at the REI in Houston (also a "ski store") and it had 10x the selection. Why would Houston have better stuff than Vegas - a store located within driving distance to mountains!??! UGH A side note is stores like this really bother me in general. The things they sell are so ridiculous only fools that go camping would ever think to buy them. Stainless steel and plastic wine glasses?!?! If you aren't drinking out of a proper glass, just please get a solo cup or something or drink out of the freaking bottle. If you're bothering to bring wine camping and know anything about wine you'd know enough to know that if you aren't drinking out of real glass, there's no point in buying a "wine glass" that's plastic or stainless steel. Why must people pretend their are homeless for an evening to get their kicks? Lastly, I hate the stupid REI program they harass you about THE ENTIRE TIME you're in this awful store. I don't want to buy your program - stop bothering me about it. I've heard the speech too many times now, I try to make you stop and you still give it. Checking out is a nightmare here - I feel like i'm at a time share presentation. Overall, I realise I'm not this store's target audience, but when forced to buy outdoorsy crap, this is one of my least favorite places. No fire arms or ammo. Very limited selection of shoes. ... most importantly... no plus size bicycling pants or workout wear of any kind. It's kind of sad that I'm pretty active and yet never lose weight so am perpetually at the gym, on the bike, weight training, etc and can't find clothes to wear. My queendom for a pair of gel padded bike pants that fit and LOOSE yoga pants AND running shoes for both pronation and high arch with wide toe box. I did get a tip from another shopper on where to find ammo but that's about all I got. read more

Yelp 100 Challenge * 81/100 I accompanied my friend here last Monday after tea when she said she needed a heart monitor for the gym. First thing I observed was the staff's great personal approach. They greeted us in and asked us if we had any questions, ultimately guiding us around to give us advice on options (for the items she and I needed) that were available. It took them barely 10 minutes to get my friend convinced to buy a heart monitor with a rubber strap and they did not leave her side until all her questions were answered. While they tended to that, I went around to ask for advice on new binoculars for when I aim to up the seriousness of my bird-watching hobby. The guy who helped me had a background in the army and shooting ranges so he was very particular with quality, handing me a Nikon zoom 8-24 x 25 pair. Then he took the time to explain the mechanics behind the binoculars and brought me to a testing area where I could zoom into a tiny picture on the wall. Those things were amazing and the price ($185) was totally worth it. REI sells high quality sporting goods from hiking backpacks to kayaks. Really, anything you ever need but expect the price ranges to be on the upper end because these gear will last you a loooong time. One of my girlfriends - an avid hiker - got a whole bunch of hiking gear here, then took a 2 year hiatus (guess work kicked in). When we got her back into it, everything seemed new and she never got sun burnt because apparently, her pants were sun-proof. Check the place out folks! I use to go here when I lived in the area. It was always great could get kayaking gear, biking gear, clothes and camping gear. I came back recently for some paddling gear and it's all gone, their men's clothing selection is not as great as it was. Can barely find regular t shirts or button down. It's all just pants. I know seasons change but stock some more shirts instead of fitness clothes and pants. Camping gear hasn't changed which is good. Staff is always friendly as well. read more

All I needed was a got dang CR 1632 battery for my Polar FT4. I went to Target and they had every battery except the one I needed. I certainly found it here! Upon walking into this awesome store you are greeted, I asked where the battery area is and she took me straight there! Score! It was very nice of her since I have never been to this store, so I didn't have to get lost. There it was, the battery of my dreams! I farted around the store for a little to check out other areas. It was nice to be asked by various associates if I was ok and if I needed help finding anything. Super refreshing. Check out was pretty easy, although the stanchion thing is confusing bc there isn't any real signage on where to stand so I just followed suit. Cashiers were super friendly and outgoing, which is a great thing!! Yay! read more

There is no other place in Vegas for all your camping/hiking/biking/climbing/outdoor/recreation needs in one place. I have bought mountain bikes, sleeping bags, hiking boots, winter gloves, kayak paddles, jackets, yoga pants, and so much more...even hiking booties for my dog, and squirt guns for my nephew! The point here is that they have a lot of gear...a huge selection...many much mousens worth of things that you need! And really good prices too! I am a huge fan of their membership program though. There is a one time fee if you want to join and then every year around tax-time you get an REI credit posted to your account. Free money to spend at REI! That simple...a percentage of everything you spend that year! If you don't want to join that's fine...it won;t cost you any more to shop here. The simple fact is that if you haven;t been to REI then you are not active enough...so go out and do something!...and if you need some gear to do it chances are you can find it at REI. read more

Tina, Andy, and Fran helped me with all of my newcomer questions (and I had ALOT), without making me feel inferior. I went to REI after my workout and I didn't buy a single thing. So why the five stars, then? I am giving 5 stars to Alex in the shoe department. I went in looking for Merrill or New Balance cross training shoes with the minimalist sole. Alex knew so much about the shoes and how they were going to fit and what each one would be better for. He knew the New Balance shoes had a very rounded toe box and the Merrills had more of a square toe box. I tried both on and Alex gave me space while I tested them out and the was good to come back and check on me a number of times and see if I wanted to try other sizes. The New Balance to my surprise seemed to fit shorter than the Merrills and that probably had to do with the shape of the toe box. Alex also told me that in two days, the 20th, that REI members would be entitled to a 20% off sale online. That is what I decided to do is to order today so I can capture the sales price. Make sure Alex gets credit for my sale! The entire time Alex was waiting on me I was surprised at how well trained he was and how much he knew about the inventory. It's impressive in this day and age. It will also create customer loyalty. If you need shoes, I hope you get Alex to assist you in your purchase at REI. read more

I was in a hurry to pick up a GoPro last week, I called and spoke with Matt? (I believe is his name) and he was super helpful in telling me which GoPros are in stock. When I got there he helped me right away and told me what comes with it, what the highlights are and the best accessories. He told me the crucial part of this purchase was making sure I get the right micro SD card that will process all the footage fast enough for such a high end product and where to find it. I love REI, it's just so expensive. Which is the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5. My boyfriend bought me some hiking shoes, which I had no idea there was a science behind the fit and ware of hiking shoes. The employee that helped me literally made me try on 6 am different pairs of shoes, which I'm glad he did because I thought I liked one pair but realized they weren't going to work. He was so knowledgable and friendly and you could tell he was totally stoked to help us. He explained how if I wear them and decide I don't like them I can just bring them back and get my money back or exchange for another pair. I thought that was really neat. He explained all the specials and deals and even gave us a couple REI stickers. Everyone when we go in is so friendly. They also have an awesome chocolate selection that's all natural and so good. Bacon, potato chips, and marshmallows are just a couple of the ingredients involved with the multiple selections of chocolatey goodness. read more

I came in here for a quick stop to get a water bottle and to look for the Amphipod running waist pack. I got really good service, and I didn't have to look too far to get it. They even knew exactly what I was looking for and lead me directly to it, instead of just pointing me that way. The atmosphere is really great and the people are very, very friendly. I think their prices are a little more expensive than online competitors. But, if you have the REI membership ($20 for lifetime membership), it MAY pay off in the end. The place is very clean and organized. The store is big and they have a lot of stuff, which I like, because then you have options. I did purchase a water bottle, but they didn't have the Amphipod running waist pack in any other color except black and it was more expensive in store.
