Waterfront Plumbing (the father, Vicente) was available and they came out and provided me with a quote $650. Vicente verbally explained that there would be, "extensive digging required to reach and inspect a leaking pipe" in my front yard. Hearing his explanation of the work I assumed this job would require several hours. I agreed based on the description and details. However, To my surprise, there was NO digging literally ZERO, and he finished the job in 45 minutes. When I questioned him about the obvious discrepancy between what was verbally told to me and what was delivered on top of the fact it took less than an hour, I was met with, " you could have gone with someone' else." I was shocked Vicente stood firm on the $650. Lesson learned, we did receive an additional quote for $250-350 for the same work. $10 PVC pipe cost, but again based on the verbal description provided by Waterfront, we believed that the other plumber was grossly underestimating the extent of work required. Then we had a family friend with their own reputable plumbing business (not in SD, but OC) urge us to say something b/c we were definitely over charged. I hope this encourages others to ask for a detailed list of tasks and work on paper with a cost breakdown. I know we'll do that next time.

Based on some trash outside in the yard, the tech concluded that we need the entire property's copper pipe replaced and sent us a quote for many thousands of dollars. The copper pipes in this property was replaced only a few years ago based on records provided to me. The owner contact us to remove the initially negative review saying it was miscommunication. Ok, so I deleted the original review and gave him a second chance to quote the right price. I ask again about the loose pipe, and he responded with he needs to send a tech out AGAIN to go under the house to do a full inspection. And we would need to charge you several hundreds of dollars to do that. I asked why? And then there was no response. First issue, the tech already come out once before and saw and heard the loose pipe. Why do they need to come out again? 2nd issue, why do they need to go under the house to find a loose pipe. Even our non plumber handyman knew exactly where the loose pipe was based on the sound it was making. And without him telling me I went over to do the inspection and figured out the location of the loose pipe independently. The fact that this trained tech did not know where the loose pipe is located and need to do a "extensive inspection" is completely baffling. Either A. The business is just trying to get paid to do a useless inspection. B. The first tech was completely incompetent. Neither boosts confidence in the company or their abilities.

He came back the next day and reconfigured the piping. It doesn't fit well into the space now. He left telling me to turn the water on after 3 hours. Something on the pipe had to dry. That was $629.00. The next morning I turned the water on there was still a leak and the water pressure was very low. I called Jones Plumbing they said they would send him back out. He was an hour and a half late, fixed the pressure, but said he didn't touch the part of the irrigation that was leaking and he would come out again for an additional charge. I asked if they come to fix a leak don't they make sure all the piping in the general area is not leaking? He said he would have to talk to the office and they would call me. That was 3 days ago. No joke, less than 5 seconds later my phone rings and it's Radi. After jumping out of bed and running down the hall to avoid waking up the wife and kids I gave him a few details about my home and we arranged a time to come over the next evening (again, after hours to fit my schedule). After explaining his services in detail and providing an estimate on the spot we chose to go with Dr. Piper because: 1) We wanted copper, and he uses only the thicker type-L copper, not the thin cheap type-M copper you get at the big box stores. 2) He is the only plumber we found that patches their own drywall holes and textures them (quite flawlessly I might add - even the popcorn ceiling) 3) The expansion tank that others didn't even mention or want to charge extra for was included in the price. 4) Everything is installed per current plumbing code and he gets all required city inspections along the way. Everything is done on the up & up. 5) Dr. Piper's estimate was not the lowest or highest, but was very competitive for the services he's providing. When he left he told us to call him should any of the faucets leak and that he'd come back asap.
