Remodel Boutique handled both of our bathroom remodels and they were absolutely amazing. Things that made them stand out are: excellent communication and project management (we saw our project manager Elizabeth every day and she updated our basecamp log daily with pictures), a fantastic in-house crew that showed up on time, were very tidy and considerate, and had great oversight. I should also note that during the remodel process, we were pretty covid cautious because I was pregnant and everyone wore masks and were super careful around me, which was greatly appreciated. A short anecdote that demonstrates just how detail oriented they are: RB workers installed some light bulbs in our restroom, which we thought were fine. They're light bulbs! But one of the RB co-owners, Domingo, noticed that the bulbs in our bathroom were different temperatures (one was a cool white and the other a warm), he pointed it out to us and then replaced one so both bulbs were warm whites. We've worked with other GC companies in town who promised similar things about communication and attention to detail but failed to deliver. Things go sideways on remodel projects - that's totally expected. What matters is how your contractor helps you recover and figure out a solution to move forward. I always felt that RB was available to help and super transparent with us. RB has scaled their company really well so everything still feels like a very tightly run ship. We are extremely happy with our home that was remodeled and renovated by Remodel Boutique! We added a primary suite, office, and bonus room and remodeled our kitchen, living room, dining area, and existing bathrooms. The quality of work is great and the project started and was completed on time despite a few unforeseen issues that could've caused delay. Once construction started, we got weekly updates on progress that had been completed with pictures. My mother and I chose Remodel Boutique to build an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) as a rental space in my backyard based on recommendations from neighbors and awards they've won, including a public service award for helping people during the 2021 ice storm. It was a great choice. We really enjoyed working with the all-female firm. Their design choices were great and communications easy. We genuinely liked them, their sense of humor, and appreciated our ability to communicate honestly. RB got the job done in excellent time. It was fun to see the project progress so quickly. The crews that worked on the project were professional and courteous. I work from home so was able to see/hear everything. My only disappointment was I wasn't able to hear their music -- they were that quiet. Each week the RB project lead posted pictures and updates of everything that had been done that week and the plans for the following week. We found that incredibly helpful. We were on a strict budget that didn't allow for many "fun" things but they helped us find items in budget which we appreciated. We saw houses they did without such strict limitations and know that they can do beautiful high end projects too -- we wanted to move in! We had an excellent remodel outcome with Remodel Boutique. We'd wanted to remodel for a long time but it seemed like such an overwhelming and scary thing to do. Years ago, we priced out a potential backyard remodel for our oversized "nothing but weeds on clay East Austin lot" - and after recovering from sticker-shock, we shelved the idea. In the Summer of 2020, we revisited our plans to make our backyard enjoyable and problem solve persistent drainage issues. After getting quotes from 4 different contractors/companies, we hired Michelle & Kristen's team to make our vision a reality. We were so happy with Remodel Boutique that we referred them to all our friends and neighbors - 3 of which have since gone on to hire their team also! Not only was their quote competitive, but the questions they asked and the attention to detail they provided demonstrated the depth of their knowledge and indicated that they wouldn't cut corners. We planned to install a 20+ft long x 12+ ft long concrete retaining wall/seating - a monstrosity of heavy concrete! - and Michelle was the *only* contractor that we interviewed who pointed out that the retaining/seat wall would need a substantial footer to stabilize the weight and highlighted the adjacent needs for grading/ drainage remediation. While a couple of the cheaper guys nodded along to everything we said, they offered no real substantive knowledge about what our backyard needed or any helpful or creative design suggestions. IE, when discussing design and materials, Michelle asked about whether we had pets who come in and out, what the problem areas were, whether we had considered X or Y materials to bring down costs or amplify design, etc. Remodel Boutique's process is integrative - Michelle and Kristen work to stay within your stated budget by helping you prioritize, without sacrificing function or aesthetics. They aren't "yes men" with a truck and some tools who will later feign confusion about the original details discussed or mention that they "forgot" something in their estimate. Rather, their process is transparent, outlined in writing at every step for all parties to review on their communication and design platform. This honesty and transparency mean they won't overpromise and underdeliver. Once we finalized the design, their team spent about two weeks with us executing. The workmen/women were communicative, kind and professional. The foreman on-site announced his arrival each day, let me know when they were wrapping up each afternoon, and gave us ample opportunity to check-in and inspect their work. The incorporated French drains, fast-draining hardscape materials and intelligent grading mean that a few hours after a deluge, our backyard is drained appropriately. Now we're eager to continue adding more plantings and watch the space develop as more greenery matures. Builders, real estate developers and renovation contractors and the like are a male-dominated sectors that are unfortunately plagued by stories of less-than-communicative GC's and sometimes downright unethical dealings. We completed a major renovation with Remodel Boutique around Christmas 2019. Overall it was a positive experience and I can recommend them for your next home project. FINISHED PROJECT Ultimately we were very satisfied with the finished project. We knocked down a wall (cue the South Park "open concept" episode), completely re-did the kitchen, switched around a sink/oven, re-did master bath, added a pantry flush with the wall, and a bunch of other stuff. It felt like a completely new house (ours was built in 60's). PRICE We thought their quoted price was extremely competitive compared to others we checked. CREW The crew was amazing. Domingo is a dream come true and a true craftsman. He took really good care of us. MATERIALS USED Most of the materials used in the original quote were Ikea or similar levels of quality. Nothing wrong with that, we weren't going for a Versace mansion look here. Just keep in mind that if you are wanting upgrades here and there, they will add up quick! PROJ MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNICATION We thought there was some room for improvement here and communicated that to them in the beginning of the project. After discussing it with them, communication improved a lot and the project started zipping along just fine. PROJECT TIMELINE With the holidays a new baby coming, we were really worried about the timeline. There were some major delays in the project because of a material we chose for our kitchen that wasn't a stock item. This wasn't really Boutique's fault, but it caused some stress/delays and we had to deal with plywood countertops for a few weeks. :-) FOLLOWUP Boutique has been great with follow-up after project completion. I want to start off by stating we are currently having extensive exterior renovations done to our house, included the entire replacement of sheathing, insulation, siding, and rotten 2x4's (amongst roof work, new windows all-round, etc). While having this work performed and a rotten 2x4 removed, damage was done to our shower. Specifically, we now had a nice hole in our wall and a bunch of tiles laying in our tub. Not great when you only have 1 bathroom in your little bungalow. I reached out to our usual "handyman" folks, ABC, who eventually replied a week later. Various other inquiries were met with silence and one other contractor telling us about his $250k remodeling job in the neighborhood, then declining to perform the work. Needless to say, we were getting desperate. My partner noticed Remodel Boutique and their designs, as well as their high ratings, and suggested I reach out. I was hesitant because even though we are planning a complete interior remodel, we were still working on the exterior of the home. I reached out, expecting to be told "we can't help you". That's where I was wrong. We did hear back from Michelle with some suggestions on how to proceed and advising us not to rush into a bathroom remodel due to the damage in the shower. What happened next was completely unexpected. After some back and forth discussion, Michelle offered to send out her Tiler (Victor, who was also awesome by the way) to help get our shower in a usable state. While this may not seem like much, anyone who lives in Austin knows the construction trade is competitive and there are more than jobs than contractors to go around. Michelle and her team absolutely did not have to help us out, but they did even when other's turned us down. For that, and having the foresight/compassion to realize helping a potential future customer out is a smart business move, I want to say a big thank you from Jaimie and I! We had a wonderful experience working with Remodel Boutique. We'd worked with a terrible contractor a couple years before, but had seen RB's work on a couple of neighbor's houses, and knew the quality was high. We decided to build a sunroom to house an office/playspace/hangout area, and were super happy with Michelle's initial consultation. She was no nonsense and honest about where there might be challenging points, and didn't try to upsell us on anything, just provided multiple options as well as her recommendations. Once we got rolling, everyone who came to work at our house was great. At one point, we weren't sure we were happy with how our ceiling was looking in the process. It turns out that Michelle was already on it before we brought up our concerns, and told us that she wanted to re-do the ceiling with a different material, even though they would eat the labor and materials cost. That spoke volumes to us about RB's integrity! We were so happy with the finished product, and spend tons of time in this beautiful room. In fact, a friend even used it for a catalog photoshoot because it feels so open and airy. RB also has a year warranty on their work, and with East Austin dirt, we are glad to have that as there's a couple places they are going to touch up now that the foundation has settled. When we decided to finally do our remodel I was nervous that it would be another project that would have hidden costs, be over schedule, leave us with a less-than-satisfactory remodel, and cause months and months of stress. But we had to do it because the kids were getting older and the housing market is insane. We went with Remodel Boutique because their work was lovely and they saw a vision for our house we couldn't. Also, after dealing with so many condescending male contractors I needed to work with people who would be clear and treat me as a person with a mind. Yes, I had an insurance claim on my roof, through USAA- who takes pictures before and after any cliam issue. I told these people that I wanted to do some remodeling as well since I was going to update the roof. So, I wanted a complete update to my flooring, possibly remodeling of the outlay of my home..and other things. She told me that the job was too small and was just rude. She never responded to my emails- but I see she has no problem taking some time to LIE on this site in order to make it seem that they do good work. UPDATE AGAIN: When Remodel Boutique was flipping the house they had put a nail through a copper pipe in the wall. It was a slow leak for months and then burst one night, flooding the entire house. We had to move all our things out, rip up the floors and baseboards, bring in a crew to dry out the foundation and then reinstall new flooring and baseboards. Insurance wouldn't even cover all of it because the flooring that RB had put down was the cheapest stuff money can buy and we didn't want all those chemicals around moving forward. 2.5 years later, my insurance company finally won a subrogation claim against RB and I was able to at least get my deductible back. But will never get the time and other resources back. Then the real nightmare began. The CoA realized that RB hadn't pulled one permit on the work that they did to the house even though it was EXTENSIVE. I mean fully gutted remodel with foundation, plumbing, structural, electrical, etc work done. And because it is the homeowner's responsibility (not the person/co who did the work) to have the permits, by the time the city learned this and cited me it was my problem. I spent months and thousands of dollars working with the city to navigate this incredibly kafkaesque issue. Constant visits to the permit office, many contractors, even more inspectors, architectural drawings, structural drawings, hand drawn floorplans of before and after.... Did my best to guess on that one because when I reached out to RB for a floorplan they said they didn't have one and couldn't help. If you are a diligent and responsible remodel company, how on earth do you not have a floorplan?? Anyway, it's been a real nightmare and I beg anyone who is buying one of their houses to a) get the best and most stringent inspection possible and b) make SURE EVERYTHING they did was permitted. read more

We recently purchased a home flipped by Remodel Boutique. I LOVE the home and am 90% satisfied with the communication and effort of the team. Sometimes it was difficult for our realtor to contact Kristen, and usually if I was told to expect a call, it did happen later than the time I was told to expect, but it happened within 24 hours usually. All that said, when we really needed them, they were there! Our water heater leaked and wasn't reinstalled correctly since the utilities were off at the house at the time... I called Michelle and she came over at 10:30pm (plumber too!) and got it fixed. That was a HUGE relief for us, especially being new in town. They also promptly replaced the effected flooring. I wanted a few things done before closing and they definitely got the big thing done (roof) which was GREAT. I had also requested for a shower curtain rod earlier in the closing process, but it didn't get done until two weeks after we took possession... which just meant showering in a tiny shower while 8 months pregnant. But they did take care of it and it looks beautiful. I'd have done it myself, but I'm not confident drilling into tile and it's an "L" shaped opening for the bath tub so slightly more complicated than just a tension rod. The one thing I didn't enjoy doing was having to customize the kitchen cabinets myself. It's one of those things I took for granted apparently in the past. They installed new IKEA cabinets (not my favorite, but they will last until we are ready to do a little more customization) but didn't put any shelving or drawers in them which complicated and pushed back kitchen unpacking until I could get the shelves and things for them. One last note, and this is more a commentary on flipping than Remodel Boutique. I am a barefoot person (and I have a barefoot kiddo) but I can't be barefoot outside at the moment. When the windows were replaced, many of the old windows must have broken or were quickly and less than carefully taken out and there is tons of glass in the yard. In addition to the glass there are also lots of screws and nails from when the roof was replaced. I regularly pick up handfuls of glass and screws while I'm watching my little person and dogs play. I'm always concerned that one of them is going to come in with a bloody paw or foot. Over all I'm quite pleased with the work they have done and with the communication. I absolutely recommend buying a home that they've flipped. They also left us a kind note and a gift card which was incredibly thoughtful and more than I ever would have expected from a seller. read more

Before hiring Remodel Boutique, we spoke to other contractors who were hesitant to take on the project due to the challenging nature of it. What could have been an incredibly stressful project was overall, a pleasant experience. We had a waterfall in our wall that I'd stopped by turning off the water to the hot water heater, but every plumber told me that was all we could do until someone could come fix the leak...in a few weeks. I froze like our pipe had, but my partner reached out for help, and Remodel Boutique came through, sending two talented folks who cheerfully told us they could fix the pipe, which they promptly did. My fiance and I recently closed on a house that was remodeled by the team at Remodel Boutique and I cannot sing their praises enough. First off, they did the most beautiful remodel work, with impeccable design and aesthetic, but also really smart use of storage space and open space that makes our home feel twice the size it is. While looking for homes we saw so many remodels that were simple "bandaid" jobs, but this was not the case with ours. They used quality materials and quality craftsmanship on every inch. Not only that, but they have been the most amazing team to work with. They have gone above and beyond in making sure our home was ready for move in and working with us on anything that came up throughout the process. In a housing market that is as crazy as Austin is right now, it would be so easy for sellers to cut corners and leave things on the buyers' plates, but this team has done the exact opposite, continuously going the extra mile. From answering our initial questions, to advising us on materials, to making adjustments on-site, they are all attentive (and patient) to the needs of their clients. They were always on time, left our house clean, addressed issues with subcontractors immediately and made changes as needed. When we wanted to install under cabinet lights that weren't in the original plan, they installed them at no cost. Their attention to detail, consistent communication, and their commitment to make things right really impressed us. I agree with the other reviewer who wanted to give this group -10. DO NOT USE!!! it has been over a year and half since they did a condo remodel for me and they still have not finished up the details that they said they would when we parted ways (on negative terms I may add). Michelle and Kristen installed sub par cabinets in my kitchen for the remodel and when I was wiping the dust out the newly installed cabinets the "skins"started to peel. They of course said that they would replace them but to date still have not AND THE CABINETS CONTINUE TO PEEL!!!!!! In addition they replaced my hot water heater with a tankless without doing the correct research on the sized needed to heat the water appropriately year round and charged me double the cost of the actual hot water heater. So now only a year and half later I have to replace the hot water heater to the correct size as to receive hot water year round... imagine that wanting hot water in the winter. HA! Guess they did not think it was important. So basically this group is at best guess work at what they are trying to achieve. They do not plan, they do not follow through and they will leave you hanging high and dry when something goes wrong. STAY AWAY!!! read more

We really enjoyed our experience with the Michelle, Michelle, and Kristen (MMK) team. They did some extensive renovations to the kitchen and living areas, added a screened porch, and replaced our fence. My husband and I haven't done a lot of work with contractors directly so we can't compare with past experience but compared to some experiences we've heard from other people (no kitchen for long periods of time, work going over budget, over time, etc.), our team was amazing. We were only out of our kitchen for a week as they worked crazy hours over thanksgiving while we were out of town. We didn't ask them to do that but they did. We are very happy with all of our updates. We discussed with them our overall vision and aesthetic, and they really brought it to life - with some bonus items (vaulted ceiling, covered porch area, etc.) that we weren't expecting. Any upcharges for changes/upgrades were fairly reasonable and were discussed in advance. That being said, we did have a few lessons learned. The MMK team totally gets the vision and the overall aesthetic; however, sometimes the PMs (who were great and very personable)/people who were doing the work were more about getting the work completed vs. doing all the little things that would match the vision. But if you see something that doesn't work and say something to the MMK team, they will fix it. We had a pocket door that was framed too small (supposedly the standard door size), but when I said something about it, they changed it. One could argue that they should have changed it before I said something because Michelle knew I'd hate it but either way, it was changed. They didn't put the right pocket door handle on the door initially but once we said something, they changed it too. Point: if you see anything you don't like, doesn't align with expectations, etc. say something. Another lesson learned is to make sure that what they are quoting (which is very detailed) contains all of your must haves including all the little items like outlets, type of wood, etc. Some things you may not care about so it won't matter but if you do, make sure its called out/included. Overall, we'd use them again. It wasn't a perfect experience but we're definitely happy in the end. read more
