We had the best rapport with Kristi but her quote came in higher than the others (not by a huge amount but significant enough for us to debate). In the end, since we'd had previous projects where we went with cost savings and then weren't 100% satisfied after, we picked Fix It Chick. Definitely the right decision! The extra cost she estimated at the beginning just proved her in depth knowledge of the whole project and the excellence they'd be providing throughout. All of her contractors were great and the quality of their work was amazing. We thought we had a good eye for detail but still missed little things she spotted during her various walk throughs to have her team fix. I also really appreciated her initial consultations. We didn't have a very specific design vision and she really helped bring our general idea to life, choosing a handful of options for us to pick from in regards to tile, furniture, lighting, etc. She even solved a big-to-me problem in our bathroom of wanting to have our laundry hidden. We contacted Kristi and a few other contractors to get quotes and ideas for our main bathroom remodel. We are so happy we chose her for this project. Budget/Quote-- Entire project cost was very close (within a few dollars) of the original quote and completed within the expected timeline. The only hiccup was when one of the components significantly rose in price from the custom supplier during the 2 weeks since Kristi made the quote. She then found a similar product online for a price within our budget. Tradespeople-- Everyone who was here was respectful of our space (having to move throughout most of the house to reach the bathroom) and cleaned up after themselves. They did high-quality work, which Kristi inspected regularly. Besides that, everyone was friendly and made us feel comfortable. Choices-- We told Kristi we had some ideas for style and design, so she asked for some inspiration photos. This guided us through choosing every component. When we were unsure, we asked for her opinion to help us decide. For many things, like the exhaust fan, toilet, and wafer lights, Kristi chose for us and got us quality products she'd used before and saved us from Choice Overload. The end result-- We are so happy with the bathroom now. It is not only beautiful, but also so much more functional than before. Working with Kristi-- Some reviewers said it took a while to get an appointment for a quote. I'm 100% OK with that. It shows that Kristi has plenty of business because she's good at what she does. This was a significant project for our home. Waiting for the right thing is worth it. Beyond that, Kristi was in constant communication with us throughout every stage. I appreciated her organization, such as the materials list and overview of the work by weeks, as well as a rundown of what work would be done each day M-F. Having worked with multiple contractors over the last 10 years of living here in Austin, I can say that working with Kristi at The Fix it Chick was the best experience. It was so good that 1/2 way into our master bathroom remodel I was already dreaming of the next project! Kristi and her team are true professionals. The project was slated for 5 weeks and it was, in fact, completed in that time frame & within the budget. Two other contractors I've worked with misjudged materials OR over extended their sub-contracted crews so the time overruns were MONTHS longer than the original timeline. We never had that issue with Kristi & crew. Her crew is HER CREW. She does NOT use sub-contractors, they are her staff and they have high standards since they all contribute to the success of their team. Our 1969 ranch home needed an overhaul of the original kitchen to bring it into the modern age in a timeless and classic fashion. Kristi delivered on our ask with my lookbook requests, creating the layout design and advising on design elements such as type of cabinets, location of lighting, correct/proper spacing and sizing, and providing color and hardware options for me to choose from. I knew exactly what I wanted but Kristi was a great sounding board. She also never took offense if I wanted to go a different direction and always sought to get me what I wanted. She has great relationships with local specialists ranging from flooring, stone for counters, cabinets, woodworkers, tilers, hvac, electrical and plumbing. She is very open about areas you may want to value engineer (i.e. spend more on areas that really add value and you love, spend less on those areas that don't) because there is a wide range of costs associated with everything from tile, hardware, appliances, to countertop stone! We felt like we were updated regularly and communicated with often. All projects run the risk of going over budget and over time due to unforseen issues or unknowns (especially with these older homes). We were fairly on budget and on time considering the large scope of the project and the primarily delays or overruns were due to our personal decisions to do more and expand scope. I can't recommend Kristi and her crew enough! I had a client recommended the fix chick to me earlier this year. I started the process with about five quotes and she came in right under the highest. Heads up i had to wait a couple of weeks for a appointment. But after we met and I got the estimate I could tell why. The estimate was very through and easy to read and understand. There was a contract and payment plan once I decided to go with her. Is she booked out yes but I didn't want someone available right away. Plus it gave me plenty of time to plan things out. I opted to buy all the fun stuff and if I had any questions Kristi was quick to assist me. Communication was five stars as well. All of the subs were nice and took good care of my home. The job was quoted to take 6 weeks but took 7 due to some delays on tile. Any of the issues that arose because you have to go into these things knowing they will. Everyone should hire this woman for their next renovation! I'm so luckily my husband found Kristi on a facebook post. At that time, we had already signed a contract with a different contractor that home depot recommended (statewide remodeling). Kristi replaced them after we caught statewide in a heap of lies, and bait and switch strategies. Kristi is amazing at her profession. Her design skills are fantastic and well thought out. Her communication is top notch. Her price is far lower than her competitors, and her spread sheet price quotes were very thorough. Kristi had great artistic vision, and offered cheaper options when sticking to my budget. Her team worked fast. She always stayed in touch with me throughout the day while I was at work. Her guys finished my kitchen and living room renovation within a month. Kristi took out my 1980s fireplace and windows, and replaced the space with a 120 inch sliding glass door. She gutted my 1980s kitchen and walls and completely redid everything. She also moved an interior door to make more room for the kitchen space. We were seriously considering renovating our guest bathroom from a tub to shower. We asked Home Depot and Rebath to give an estimate which ranged from $32K - $36K with only replacing Tub to shower. That was much more than I wanted to spend so I called Kristi Copeland aka The fix it chick. She came over and assessed the situation. She gave me a very competitive bid (almost half the price) to fix and convert the tub to shower in addition to building shelves and installing new lights and paint. Of course we said YES! Besides being affordable, she was quick, efficient and reliable. Every Sunday she gave me a schedule of who and what work would be done on a daily basis and at what time. The schedule never strayed. There wasn't any unexpected costs or delays or any issues at all. I've had 4 other remodeling companies do work for me and none even come close to Kristi's work. They had delays, excuses, increase in prices and were super messy. That wasn't the case with Kristi. The bathroom remodel went on like clock work. I read reviews on Kristi prior to reaching out. Most were glowing reviews. But, if you do your research you'll find that she has a collection of bad reviews mostly related to being flaky and not making her appt. I chose to write these reviews off as bad days and focus on the positives ones. This was a mistake Kristi and I set an appt to look at my project. This appt was set about 3/4 weeks out. The day before Kristi reaches out to confirm and I confirmed with her at 9am the day of. She responds back at 10 saying she'll see me there at noon. At 12:15 I'm wondering where she is and I see she sent me an email at 11:15 canceling. This email was flippantly written and simply says "bad news...some plumbing issue excuse...I can't make the appt. A couple big things wrong with this 1. Things happen and I have to cancel things. When that happens close to the time I make every attempt to reach out and let that person know so I don't waste their time. She did none of that. No phone call. No text message. Just a flippant email as if my appt was not important to her. I was hurriedly leaving my work to meet her so I showed up and she wasted 2 hours of both my work day and my wife's work day. Total lack of courtesy 2. Ok so I think maybe Kristi had a bad issue and I'll hear from her later and (maybe) I'll reschedule Nothing. Crickets. 2 days later. Nothing. She just blew me off totally. No email asking to reschedule and apologizing for missing our appt. She just didn't care about me as a client or my time I simply don't do business with people like this and recommend you don't either Sure she has positive reviews and that's why I called her. But those other reviews are also indicative of her behavior Maybe you'll be the lucky client she cares about. Or maybe you'll be stood up and totally ignored. I have a 1980 condo in North Central Austin. A friend referred Kristi after I complimented her bathroom remodel. I met with Kristi, shared my ideas, showed her sample materials I wanted to use then got on her calendar. I didn't mind the wait as we had good chemistry and I knew she'd be the perfect person to gut my master upstairs bathroom and add new floors to the master bedroom. Kristi and her entire team of partners were amazing. At times done if them felt like family and that's a great feeling when you have a 6 week project in your home. Kristi even helped me solve for a hot upstairs by bringing in her HVAC partner. Sure it was scope creep but we ended up moving the AC to the attic from downstairs and adding new air ducts. We replaced carpet with bamboo flooring in the master bedroom and stair landing. As part of the process squeaky floors were fixed and the floors were reinforced. Kristi was a dream to work with. With a bathroom extension, renovation, and reflooring project, she took our home from "ugh, should we just move?" to "we LOVE this place" in the most painless way possible. We plan to use her again and I would heartily recommend her, especially to other first-timers who are looking for a friendly, expert guide. Since this project was our first home renovation, we had a lot of questions. Kristi was patient and worked with us at our speed, offering her expertise and advice without bulldozing. Where other contractors may have tried to up-sell, Kristi provided us with expert, no-pressure, real talk. With her help we were able to "right-size" our project on the scale of go big to go home and we came away with no regrets. The work was completed ahead of schedule when everyone told us to tack on 33% to any contractor's estimate. This was an enormous bonus because our first baby was also ahead of schedule. Kristi's swift work and fine management meant we got to bring baby home to a fresh new house rather than a construction site. Win! Oh, and she was also great with our cats, who needed to stay on site for most of the work. Let me start by saying that I own a small business. In the past, I have had to turn down work because I was stretched too thin. I probably could have worked it out, but the end product would not have been representative of the quality of my work, so instead, I turned down the job. So while some people might post a negative review due to Kristi being unavailable to do the work, that fact does not have anything to do with the actual quality of her work. A few years ago I had removed the fireplace from inside our home to increase the space in our library/bar area. Although the inside looked good, we now had a useless chimney on the outside of our home. To remove it, I needed someone who could do roofing, siding, brick, electrical and gas. I got in touch with Kristi to see about getting a quote for the work. Every step of the way Kristi was great. She was very responsive to emails and text messages. She also made numerous suggestions, some of which we took and some of which we didn't. One suggestion we did take was to use hand-painted concrete tile instead of brick. The end product turned out better than we could have expected. And, because of the compromises we made along the way, we were able to stay true to the original quote (even though the tile turned out way more expensive than we initially thought!) Kristi is funny, personable and great to work with. We have many more projects planned for our house, including remodels of both bathrooms as well as our kitchen. Her team just completed an install of a new door, and a new slider (where none existed before), and both projects look great! We own a house that was built in the 60's, so occasionally it needs a repair or an update. This time it was the (original!) master bath: the bathtub faucet leaked constantly, and the tiles had started falling off the wall. This would be our first major remodel, so we did a fair amount of research into local designers. We settled on Kristi after reading all her good reviews and seeing photos of her work. Her design style is fairly modern but wouldn't look out of place in our traditionally-styled house. At the time we got in touch, her project lead time was 6-8 months. It was definitely hard for us to wait so long, but we knew that it was a good sign that she was so busy. Getting a quote and getting scheduled was painless and took less than an hour. Shortly before work started Kristi sent us some preliminary designs and helped us pick out fixtures. She was never short with us or annoyed that we asked so many questions, and was always amazingly helpful and friendly. All of her chosen contractors do great work. We are thrilled with the remodel! She did a wonderful job of utilizing our tiny space, and our bathroom finally feels bright and open. I've worked with a lot of contractors through the years and Fix It Chick stands out from all of rest because of the quality and professionalism. I have a 1950's home in north central Austin and hired Kristi and her crew to remodel my master bathroom to keep with the midcentury modern feel of the house. They stripped the bathroom down to the studs and replaced pipes, drywall, tile, all of the fixtures and the bathroom window. I cannot say enough about how much we appreciate The Fix It Chick. She is absolutely phenomenal at planning, implementation, design, and follow-through. We have used Kristi for several projects in our house, including a complete master bathroom rebuild, a fireplace facelift, and for odd jobs. First of all, she is wonderful at assisting her client in getting the ideas or the pictures out of your head and into the project. She works with quality materials, but keeps things in budget, and she has a great crew of folks working with her. For me, I was initially concerned having strangers in my house because I have small children, but her crew is safe, friendly, and professional. When our bathroom was remodeled, it was because of water damage and we had to do it. Her cheery disposition, professional and courteous attitude, and timely project plans really alleviated much of the stress associated with that situation. She was almost always just a phone call away when we had questions, and she gave us her best. When we wanted to re-do our very dated, 1980's style fireplace, I just called her to tell her I wanted something "different." New house, new remodeling project. It was a no-brainer deciding who to call when we decided to add built in bookshelves to what I had determined would be "the library." We'd worked with Kristi on several projects in our previous home, so she was our first and only contractor choice, and the experience and end result were fantastic. I had really been excited to meet with Kristi after seeing pictures of her work. A neighbor had also used her several years ago so I figured it was likely a good fit. I waited a month and a half for an appointment, Kristi picked the day and time. The time came and went. An hour past the time I e-mailed saying I was running and errand to call me if she got to the house and I was not there . I got an e-mail a day or so later saying that several weeks prior to my scheduled time that her account had been hacked and that appointments had randomly been moved around. I see a number of other people have had no calls, no shows so I have to wonder; plus if your account had been hacked and you knew appointments had been moved around wouldn't contact people and confirm dates and times? More telling was that Kristi did not offer a new appointment at my convenience. read more

My wife and I really wanted to give a better review than this, but we have to be honest. We really liked Kristi - she was very personable and knowledgeable, and presented herself professionally. First, we had Kristi and her Fix-It-Chick workers repair some siding outside over a window and they did a really nice job with that. We also had them repair and texture several places on walls and ceilings in several different rooms throughout our two-story house where there were minor cracks and in the kitchen where I had removed one of those large 4-foot long fluorescent lighting boxes. Kristi said that when her crew got done with the repairs, we wouldn't be able to tell where the repair was made. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The texture doesn't quite match and even though I've painted the kitchen ceiling twice it's very easy to see where the repair was made. I was also a bit frustrated that they sprayed texture onto half a wall in the master bedroom to fix a 3-inch repair, requiring me to paint the entire wall. Seemed like their texture sprayer only sprayed one way - wide. They politely came back twice to re-repair part of the kitchen ceiling but it still looks repaired. We're having to hire another contractor to get it right. UPDATE 02/11/2015: After the above review posted to Yelp, Kristi was quick to respond and offered to send her crew out again. We thought about her offer but decided to use another contractor that we recently had hired to remodel our master bathroom. Kristi has a great eye for design and helped find fixtures and furnishings that worked really well for our limited space. I had a few follow-up requests when the work was complete, which she was graciously able to meet. Whereas some of her tradespeople are more skilled than others (we had some issues with the quality of the paint job), everyone is courteous and very punctual, which is so helpful when you're trying to get work done quickly and competently. Unlike a lot of other contractors we've worked with, she also doesn't talk your ear off about useless things... she's there to get the work done on time, and she does it in a pleasant and humorous way. read more

It's been a while, so time for an update. We recently called on The Fix It Chick again, this time entrusting an outdoor "remodel" to her. We have a pretty good-sized lot, and it just killed me to water so much grass year after year. Kristi came up with an awesome-looking, cost-effective xeriscaping plan for our front-side lot (it's hard to explain) that looks so great, I'm kind of kicking myself for not doing it last year like she suggested, when I first asked her about it. Yay procrastination! We put ourselves entirely in her clever little hands, because when it comes to the great outdoors, I totally don't know what I'm doing. Rocks and bugs and pollen and dirt, not my cup o tea. And I'm very glad we did. It looks great, and it's something I TOTALLY DON'T HAVE TO WATER. Many of my neighbors have complimented the work, and one has already asked Kristi for an estimate for similar work! Since it's the Fix It Chick, there were the things I knew I could count on: the work started and finished on time, the crew was always pleasant to be around, the workspace was cleaned up every day at the end of the day, and the invoicing made sense and was cost-conscious. We've worked with other, bigger contractors before so we knew what to expect: double the timeline, expect to pay 25% more than what the estimate says, and just go ahead and start cursing now. Not so with The Fix It Chick! Kristi and her team showed up exactly when they said they would. They did exactly what they said they would do. They were accountable for every cent on the easy to read, easy to understand estimate, with no surprise charges or ridiculous extra bill for every nail. At the end of each working day, the folks cleaned up after themselves, leaving everything neat and clean. While they were there, they were professional and polite and knew what they were supposed to be working on. They told us what time they'd be arriving the next day and that's actually when they'd show up. They finished on time. And the results look fantastic and are really top quality. Kristi is clearly personally invested in ensuring that you get a superior result. I appreciated that she didn't just implement what I asked her to, but that she gave me her personal opinion on how things would work/look best - not all contractors have that ability, as I've learned from sad experience. Kristi just finished a whole kitchen remodeling, as well as trim install and painting. She came UNDER BUDGET, and I have the kitchen of my dreams. She even met me at Ikea to help me with overwhelming choices. I trusted her so much I left for a 2 week vacation while the work was being done. She was responsive, prompt, funny and a designer to boot. I tend to be picky and she made everything right. She is not afraid to do the job herself, and twice came over to correct something her subcontractors had not done right. I have referred my son to her, for a whole house remodeling. She has a wicked sense of humor, and seems to have become a friend. I would never use anyone else again, and cannot recommend her highly enough. read more

Highly Recommend Kristy. She did a full kitchen gut and remodel and I am very pleased. (And I am admittedly picky!) We got several bids and she was in the Top 3rd but a definite instance of you get what you pay for. On time, very organized, clear communication and pays attention to the details. While I appreciate the fix it chick trying to explain the blow off, it wasn't necessary. Is she saying " future customers please call me because only sometimes I am too busy and will have to turn you down. See I explained my business situation and that "no" isn't pleasant to tell customers, but I do my best to please." I feel when you get a "no" there is another solution out there that is better for your situation. I have had enough work done by unqualified handymen that has cost me to fix their bad work. read more

Kristi, The Fix It Chick, is amazing! She really is a combination of handyman and designer. We have had Kristi remodel our bathroom, fix the many things on our honey-do list, and replace all the hardware on the front of our house. When it comes time to update the outdated fixtures, ugly kitchen tiles and kitchen/bathroom cabinets, we are definitely going to use Kristi again. Kristi and her subcontractors were friendly, honest, on-time, and knowledgeable. They were careful to explain the needed repairs to us, and provided clear, accurate estimates prior to performing the work. Plus, even though we added other jobs on, there was no job-change upcharge that some contractors charge! Lastly, Kristi was super helpful in picking out the new materials. Her taste is excellent, and she has the knack for both knowing what we like style-wise, and what will look good in our home. If you really want an honest, hard-working repair person, I highly recommend Kristi, The Fix It Chick. She'll fix you up! Update - August, 2011: Since I wrote the first review, we've now had Kristi: remodel our downstairs powder bathroom; replace the floor tile, baseboards and door trim in our entry, upstairs guest bath, and laundry room; retile the kitchen backsplash; and my favorite - she did the most beautiful remodeling job on my master bathroom. I will start by saying that I am a shamefully unhandy man. I bought my first home recently and it needed some major work. Kristi came on a recommendation and I don't know where I'd be without her. Maybe homeless. We started with electrical work them moved to creating a more functional laundry room, did a full kitchen remodel, living and dining, and most recently closet expansion. Everything we've done has been based on her original renderings which were almost eerily my style. I sent her a few pictures from an idea book and she nailed it with her designs, while staying flexible enough to tweak details as I've constantly changed my mind about things. Every project we have done so far has come in under budget, was completed quickly and looks great. One quick example of her awesomeness ... Her main guy Sylvester (also awesome) had mistakenly removed some bottom kitchen cabinets instead of refurbishing them. Instead of making excuses or doing some other "contractor things" she offered to install brand new cabinets. FOR FREE. I paid for materials but it still came out cheaper than the original estimate to refurbish them. Awesome. She makes the process fun, is always available to talk, and at times has seemed even more excited than me about making my house look great. Can't recommend her enough. read more

Thank goodness for Kristi! I had a water intrusion and asked her to come by to evaluate. Turns out that, in addition to needing to replace some wood trim around exterior windows and doors (then paint and caulk), I also needed a little roof installed to protect the door from rain. Kristi did the research to have one fabricated, and it was going to be rather expensive doing it that way. She was sensitive to cost issues and began a search for a ready-made little overhang that would go with the very modern exterior of my home, and she found the perfect one, both style- and cost-wise. Kristi and her crew have a great work ethic -- responsive, show up on time, do beautiful work, and clean up the work area. I always felt like I was in good hands and could trust her. read more
