Literally a hidden gem, tucked away in St. Philips plaza. I have simple standards for a coffee shop: treat me like a human being, and provide me with a tasty drink. Ren has exceeded my standards with their friendly service, and vast menu. I have yet to try their food which only sounds delectable, but I am on the Keto diet, which brings me to this... They have a Keto friendly drink called "the fat americano." This drink is my new guilty pleasure! They have nitro cold brew, on tap, which provides a superior jolt. It's my go-to pre-workout drink. This place smells soooo good first thing in the morning when they are baking their hand crafted pastries, which are organic and delicious. Very friendly staff that really seem to care about what they are doing. They have great bagels too. Highly recommend. read more

The coffee: I've been here 4 times now. The first time, the drip was pretty good. But the next 3 times, it consistently tasted burned -- as if the water was too hot when the coffee was brewed or the roast was off. I've also purchase a bag of beans and thought it was on par with Starbucks blonde. I.e. not worth my time or effort unless it's a dire situation. The pastries: I've only tried the almond croissant and it was bomb.com. Much better than any pastry (aka rock with sugar) I've had at Cartel. The ambiance: they have a great shaded spot that is easily accessible in st philips plaza. Clean but lacking lots of outlets. They leave the doors open in good weather which is nice because there is a breeze but a lot of flies also get in. It makes the place seem a little dirty when you see flies and makes me second guess when I've considered ordering cooked food. The service: friendly Overall, I think ren is in a great location with solid pastries but has room to grow, most importantly in terms of coffee beans and barista skills. I'd like to see them carry a higher quality coffee bean like local yellow brick or four barrel from San Francisco and invest some more time in honing the craft of making good coffee. There really is more to it then simply hot water + beans to make a cup of joe that is flavorful and sets a coffee shop apart in 2018. Presta and Cartel are still my go-to for coffee but I hope to see Ren grow because once their coffee is figured out, it will easily become the best spot in Tucson. read more

My first visit and sad to say, disappointing. I ordered an Americano (two shots of espresso & hot water) w/cream. Tasted like something I could get at Circle K. On the plus side, nice location to sit and sip. read more

Disappointing. Gave this place a try for the first time yesterday during the street market. Ordered avocado toast. The toast was burnt and the avocado was more brown than green. Thanks, but I have my own overly ripe/rotten avocado at home and can easily burn some toast. Can't believe they actually served me it. Can't believe I skipped breakfast just to check this place out. And I really can't believe I paid $8 for it! I wish I took a picture, but hadn't planned on leaving a review until I opened my app and it was still showing this place. The turmeric retaliation drink was really good and the reason I gave it any stars, but it couldn't take away the bad taste of the food. Really wanted to love it. Drat. Hopefully the owner will see this and correct the quality issues. I may still stop back just for a drink though. read more

We love coming to this coffeeshop and are there almost weekly. The coffee is always well done no matter what you order but the nitro is particularly amazing. The atmosphere is one of the better spots in Tucson. It's not empty nor overran with undergrads studying. On the weekends you can stroll through the farmers market just outside. read more

Great new place. Very nice iced mocha, very nice staff. The location isn't anything to shout about but it is surrounded by big, beautiful trees, which is absolutely worth a star or two itself. Not in my normal stomping grounds, but will definitely be back when I'm in the area. read more

I have only been here once but apparently it was on the soft opening. The staff was friendly and helpful. I like coffee but I don't usually find one cup different from another. I had an Americano with coconut oil and it was the best cup of coffee I have ever had. I can't wait to go back! read more

Very pleasant coffee shop. I had a vanilla latte and my hubby had a cappuccino, both were delicious. The atmosphere is comfy and it's pretty quiet, a nice place to work or have a conversation. Great coffee and coffee shops are all about attention to little details, and Ren nails it. Their coffee, food, and location are all excellent. The staff is polite and nice. I am a coffee snob, and I can say the coffee is made correctly to the highest standards, with the finest coffee, methods, and equipment. Drip coffee is easy to mess up, but Ren's is perfect. Their nitro coffee is amazing on hot days. Sometimes they offer an agave whip cream to add on top, and that makes it divine. The food is healthy and flavorful. I love the avocado toast with a poached egg on top. They use Barrio Bread, which is fitting, since again, Ren does not skimp on any details. I also love the protein bars, especially the almond one. All expresso are double shots! Finally a coffee shop that gets it. Not sure if they have been open a year yet but this is a good place for good coffee. The service is good, the staff friendly. They provide good Wi-Fi and a nice place to sit and relax. What more can you ask for? If I have a complaint it's that they close too early buy I guess they have to open and close with the business. read more

went in this morning, as a friend of mine wanted to check it out. i ordered a strawberry lemonade smoothie that cost about 7.50. i was a bit taken aback by the price when compared to the size and the ingredients. as i watched the young man make it i noticed they used concentrates as opposed to real fruit. i was way disappointed in that, but reminded myself the owner swooped in from out of state and opened a business. maybe she does not understand the importance of quality ingredients. what really bothered me even more than a fruit smoothie made with concentrates was the reliance upon plastic!!!!! i noticed that even for those who chose to dine in that plastic was the option, not reusable. i then looked around for a recycling bin to alleviate the burden of all that plastic and to my disappointment, i did not see one. guess the owner doesn't know or care about the damage the single use plastics do to the environment. should have gone with my gut instinct when i first saw it had opened to never enter and support the business. now i know why. read more

ren is a delight space-wise and food-wise. i had the salmon and arugula on barrio bread...delicious. coffee after lunch was good but the barista had made it too full and it spilled all over. the vibe of the place is more sophisticated (nice tables and chairs, art) than the atmosphere created by the workers. the music was not loud but was a heavy metal - totally inappropriate for the place. i don't know why there isn't one coffeehouse/cafe in tucson that plays jazz or classical at a reasonable decible. i would have stayed longer to read/enjoy another cup of coffee and a desert if i hadn't been driven out by the music. read more

Too bad. This had become my go to coffee shop. The coffee is the best in town and they do some creative things with their drinks and their food. Sadly, I won't be going back. Today I ordered a large lavender latte and my daughter ordered a small Americano. When the order came up, we had an Americano with 2/3 cups of coffee in it. The latte was a small. This was the second time this happened to me in a row. The barista told me basically, too bad - you paid for a small. The boy that took the order said, oh - I must not have heard you. The cranky barista did not offer to make it right she just argued with me. I finally left. This isn't the first time this barista has been rude when we have been in there. I will go back across the street to Starbucks in future. The coffee isn't as good but they clearly want to delight me as their customer which is so much more valuable than the taste of the coffee. read more
