Love this place! But, let's be real, I'm biased here. The owner is from WI, and she brought along some Milwaukee-based coffee called Colectivo with her. Being a fellow Sconnie transplant, I was SO excited to see her bring these products to the desert! (Another WI product she carries is Rishi tea - it's top-notch.) All that aside, the service is friendly, they have a solid food menu to keep you satisfied, and the space offers plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Last time I stopped in on a Saturday morning, they even had a little bit of live music going. This is a great spot for the plaza, and a perfect place to grab your caffeine before walking around the weekend market. A great find! Went to the Rillito Farmers Market and since it was raining, no hot coffee being sold so we looked for coffee close by and found Rens. I had an Alt-nog latte which tasted yummy and wasn't too sweet so liked that. Husband had a regular coffee, Guatemalan, and he wasn't a fan but then we're kind of coffee snobs. The cinnamon roll and strawberry scone made up for the not so great coffee. These were two of the best pastries we've had in Tucson. Hubs doesn't like frosting but he scraped some excess off my roll to add to his scone--it was that good! It's a nice evironment and located in the St. Phillips plaza. We'll be back! read more

We called in advance to ask if there was a dog friendly patio, we were told no, but there were plenty of tables in the plaza that we could take our food to, very friendly! When we got there however, we saw a patio and people were out there eating with their dogs.. hmm... the place is really cute, nice vibe, there were some great coffee, smoothie, and food selections, we ordered a turmeric chai, and golden milk, both so fabulous! My breakfast salad was just ok, the sweet potato slices were cold and so were the poached eggs, the eggs were also completely hard, nothing running to run out over that salad, my husband did say the dressing was very flavorful. My golden oatmeal was great, loved the banana and walnut, and little pitcher of milk that came with it, sometimes when you get oatmeal, there is no milk included, so I loved that! The service was great. The cashier was friendly and helped me navigate the big menu. I was looking for a gluten free blueberry muffin but they were all out. Not a big deal at all but I got an oat milk latte with 3 shots and it tasted really watered down. If you like quality coffee, I would go elsewhere. read more

Ordered the arugula salad with lemon vinaigrette to go. Vinaigrette was good, always like arugula but it was overloaded with walnuts! My hot tea was tasty and was loose leaf in an unbleached tea bag. I appreciate that as is a healthier way to serve up tea. Beware tho the tea bag wicks the liquid to the outside of cup if you leave it in cup and makes a wet mess. A very good coffee and tea cafe that also offers up a fair variety of good light fare breakfast and lunch dishes, and a decent range of baked treats and breads with gluten fee options on the side. The staff and owner do a very good job overall in providing service and keeping the place clean no matter how busy and crowded things get. Make sure you get a stamp card and remember to have it stamped each time you order a coffee or tea so you can get a free coffee after ten stamps! That being said, there are a few issues, some intrinsic to Ren itself and some to their location in the St. Phillips plaza that prevent me from giving it a full five stars. The most serious is that it happens to be right near the outlet of the plaza for the bike and walking trail, and as such a lot of people, especially in the early morning, love to just show up, park their cars in the lot and leave them there, often for HOURS without going in to get any coffee or food at Ren! Very annoying when you're in a bit of a hurry and you wanted to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a cup of coffee before work or afterwords and there's no place nearby to park because Bicycle Ken and Karen left their SUVs parked around the coffee shop! The other is in how Ren is configured in terms of layout and square footage, which isn't the owner's fault per se. It was originally a bicycle store and you can see that the outlets for power aren't enough for people who just want to sit to enjoy the ambience for a few hours to study or do work and there's nowhere to plug a laptop or phone into to keep it charged. Places like Cafe Luce's three shops, Crema Coffee, and Cartel Coffee Lab's locations all have a good built in supply of outlets at most or all of the tables. The fact that the place was originally not built around food service means that when you walk in and it's busy, you find yourself in a line that's cramped around the tables, the refrigerator cabinet, and is sometimes going out the door on the west side and then people coming in from the east side get screwed as they then have to go around to the other side to get in line. With only a single register at the counter and no wait staff to take orders from a table, this can get a bit aggravating as the queue builds up and working it off slows to a crawl despite the cashier's best efforts. The final real issue is one that came about in part due to the pandemic and Ren hasn't been able to recover fully from; they don't stay open past 3 pm, and originally they stayed open as late as 6 in winter and 4 in summer. Ren has struggled a bit in keeping staff the past couple years so they limited their hours. So if you go there around 2 pm, forget lunch as they close the kitchen and serve only drinks. However, they recently took over a small bakery in the same plaza, only serving pastries, cookies, coffee, and tea, and they are keeping it open to 8 pm. It's a nice if you want some place that's more chill and laid back and you don't want to go all the way across the street to Cafe Luce. So we'll we'll see how that works out for them. We were served by the owner - a lovely, friendly lady who patiently answered all our questions. My latte (made with ORGANIC whole milk) was delicious. And the avocado toast was one of the best I've ever had. I took a sip of my friend's iced coconut milk chi tea - which was a blend of tea and spices - and this was heavenly too! Came to study on a Wednesday morning and noticed it was smaller in person than what I expected from how the pictures made it look. It was fairly busy but I was able to find a table to sit at. Cute patio area outside available as well. Good vibes to study, catch up with friends, or come for the food and drink. They had several vegan snack/treat options. I noticed several groups of bikers and assume it's heavily trafficked since it's right along the River path. I ordered an iced coffee and TBA (Turkey, bacon, avocado) panini which were both tasty. The panini had a lot of spinach on it which I would've rather had a thicker slice of avocado. They have punch cards for drinks, and the service was great! I'll definitely be back to study. read more

I've been three times now so I'll weigh in: pretty good! The space is nice and shaded parking is available. St Phillips can be a little hard to get in and out of later in the afternoon, but the bike accessibility from the Loop is outstanding. Cafe seating is comfortable and the windows offer nice natural light with views of trees (esp compared to Luce which is kind of a hole with seating I've always found awkward). No road noise either. Once things cool off again, it might be nice to get some outdoor tables. So far I've had the brewed coffee (quite good! from non-local but tasty roaster, Colectivo), a coconut-milk whipped Americano, and the cold brew. All were quite tasty if, as a few others mentioned, a little expensive. It looks like there is a good amount of food available, but I wish they had vegan baked goods. Menu is quite varied, with smoothies, good looking salads, and a variety of toasts/bagels/paninis. I haven't tried them yet, but they look to have healthy options as well as plenty of vegan/vegetarian things. Staff has been pleasant each time I have been. Downsides aren't major, but the menu is a little hard to decipher (the font/hand lettering is cool, it is just overly-dense and undifferentiated). I agree with one of the other reviews that the music ....well, sucks. Bland alterna-muzak punctuated by commercials is no one's friend. Easy enough to pop in headphones, I guess. Tune it to KXCI -- you'd earn some local Tucson cred and offer better music :) read more

How can a coffee shop be deceptive? I'm not sure, but that's how I feel. Certainly the iced coffee was bitter. The decaf not. The almond croissant was clearly a commercial product and overly filled with overly sweet pastry cream. I guess if you're at St. Phillips Plaza and need a cup of joe, this place works. Cute coffee spot with comfy chairs! Great workers! This is important as I usually want to sit and read. I spoke with the owner who was a previous business owner in another local, and she was approachable and I enjoy her coffee joint. Ren has it's own flair for being a coffee shop. But wait...they also serve sandwiches (using Barrrio bread), pastries and some very enticing coffee drinks and smoothies. Of course they have coffee. I had drip coffee and then a muffin-pumpkin carrot! The coffee was really good I didn't need any sugar or cream. The muffin was moist. I could taste the ingredients and they weren't drowned out by sugar! And half off since from 2-4pm the pastries are half off! Booya! Love this spot! read more

Since I moved to another part of this city I haven't been back here but went last weekend. It's a well-run coffee house with an interesting selection of foods which include salads and sandwiches. Wow oh wow this coffee was surprisingly good! Not acidic at all. I had a latte and YES they have dairy free options. This place was really cute too and it seems to be a good place to study or do computer work because that's what everyone seemed to be doing. I also had a beet salad which had really good flavor. I think the beets were canned though because they smelled a little weird and had that canned texture. Still really good and I highly reccomend it. read more

Love this place! Definitely smaller in person than in the pictures. But the vibe is great! I found a small table in the corner by an outlet so I could do my homework. This was my first time coming to this coffee shop. I was excited to try it as it had amazing reviews. As soon as I stepped into the coffee shop I was yelled at and treated very rudely. I watched one more customer be treated very rudely told to "step out that the line was outside." As I stood in line I watched both counters, on one side it was Scottie who treated his customers very nicely and on the other counter it was Alex (the one who had yelled at me and didn't provide the best first impression). I was hoping that I was helped by Scottie and I did, if it wasn't for him I would not come back. Please thank him, he has an amazing personality. My rating is so low because of how rude I was treated, it makes it hard to enjoy everything else when that's how you get treated. read more

The smoothies were delicious and they had a good variety of vegetarian sandwiches. However when I went in during the covid pandemic, none of the employees were wearing masks. I almost canceled my order, but luckily, the guy in the kitchen offered to wear a mask (thank you!). It would be nice if businesses would require masks for their employees, both for their safety and the safety of their customers. I'm an ER doc, and according to studies out of China, the majority of covid transmission occurs in people without symptoms. It's a coffee shop, tucked into a corner of St Philip's Plaza, and just off one of the major bike paths. Small but pleasant interior with seating of various types and comfort levels. Good coffee. Tasty pastries. Fast And free WiFi. Bike racks just outside. My wife likes the lavender lemonade. I saw salads being served but have yet to try any food other than a rather tasty almond croissant. I hope that the good folks at Ren read these reviews. The thing with an expensive coffeehouse is that it is expected to be good stuff! More times then not the coffee latte is lovely, but with a specific barista (05/01 Wed @ 10:20) the crafted drink is not consistent. She either needs training, or she is in a hurry and is not thinking about the steps or the temps needed to make a consistent excellent drink. Now I understand that different staff members can make the drinks, and it may be challenging to determine the barista that I am referring to however the discussion needs to take place as to how can the drinks be consistently good each time, $7.00 is a high price for a coffee, but when it is good it is worth every penny. I like this coffeehouse, and I will keep coming back, but if the coffee is not consistently good, I may pass it up when in doubt and go to Circle K for $1.00. read more
