First impression, I stepped in and was hit with fragrant spices, which made me hungry! The service is great, our waitress was very attentive, efficient, and welcoming. She gave us great recs too! The Persian Garden was great. I'm not a big fan of ordering coffee/espresso/lattes but the rose flavor was something I didn't expect to like. The baba ganouj and beetroot tzatziki were both hits for the family. The baba ganouj had the smoky flavor I was looking for and the tzatziki was fresh and light. The pita was thick, soft, and warm, perfect for dipping. The kofta, tuna tartare, and crispy grape leaves weren't too bad. The kofta is quite large and the lamb didn't taste too gamey at all. The arugula and tahini really brightened the flatbread. I enjoyed the tuna tartare but I was looking for more of the tuna flavor. As for the crispy grape leaves, it was a bit like an eggroll but mushy inside. I wasn't the biggest fan of this and tzatziki dipping sauce but that's just me. Finally, the chicken mohammar and grilled kofta were both great! We enjoyed the chicken mohammar much more though. The sauce was smoky and savor while the chicken was extremely tender. The pita was perfect to encapsulate the chicken and soak up the sauce! As for the grilled kofta, we did like the wild rice and lamb. The arugula and onion went great with the lamb. Really nice place in West Philly area, very nicely decorated, and overall great experience. Met up with some friends there for one of their birthdays for brunch, and the food and service was great. I really appreciated how well they marked the menu with dietary guidelines such as gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, etc., and our server was great about the whole deal - taking our orders, keeping our beverages filled, and letting us know about things such as how many cards she could split the bill across. I got the Norwegian Omelet, which was a great choice - smoked salmon in the omelet went really well, and the sourdough was good too. In retrospect, I could've probably gone w/o the onions and peppers w/ the potatoes, but the dish was great and filling. Coffee was good too, and definitely appreciate the refills. You'll find great Middle Eastern-inspired dishes next to the 40th Street trolley portal at this restaurant! I visited in a party of four for Sunday brunch, and we loved all but one of our dishes from the experience. My favorite bites were the short stack pancakes from my breakfast platter. They were fluffy, delicious with the topped fruits, and a perfect complement to the bacon and eggs. The soup was also filling, great for a chilly, windy morning. My friends also enjoyed their Avocado Toast, French Toast, and Breakfast Burrito dishes. The only drawback was the cauliflower, which unfortunately had too much sauce that overpowered the other flavors and textures. I felt that the service was okay, but could've been more attentive. I arrived a bit later than my friends, and it took a few minutes before someone came to fill my water. However, our dishes were served quickly despite the restaurant being full and didn't have to wait for refills or our check. The restaurant itself also doubles as a great sports venue, with bar seating, an upstairs space, and plentiful TV access. Food was very good, the staff was very welcoming. The vibe in there is very chill too, you can come in, get food and sit and no one will bother you. The food is very very good. I got the chicken shawarma bowl and my fiancé got the kofta flat bread and we shared it. There was enough food for us to share and take home and enjoy it later Also they have music playing but it isn't too loud which makes it perfect for a date night because you can actually hear what your partner is saying. Lovely birthday brunch experience! It has a fun ambiance with very friendly service. Bekah was super sweet and I really liked her. My boyfriend and I split the House French Toast with the mango-pineapple chutney. It was tasty but I wish it had had a little more fruit (you can see in the pic that it was a little low on the berries. I know it comes with the chutney but I'd have loved more of both!). I came here for brunch with my friends while they were visiting for the holidays -- I've also heard good things about their happy hour. We had a pretty big party but forgot to make a reservation, but the staff were able to accommodate us so that was nice. The vibes inside are nice and cozy. The staff are very friendly and attentive. As for the food, it's solid! I liked the sandwich I got (Croque Madame) and also tried some of my friend's Chicken and Waffles; all of these were good. We were hoping to have a nice impromptu saturday brunch. We rarely leave our apartment on Saturdays (before 1 pm of we leave at all). After hearing positive feedback from a friend and looking through reviews, we decided to take a stroll. Things went well at first. It was packed, so we decided to take outdoor seating. Our server was very nice and attentive. Then suddenly, the sun disappeared. Like poof. We felt so bad and asked the server if we could change it to carry-out since the temperature dropped within minutes... even though we had already put in our order. She was very kind about it, and we were still going to tip her min 20%. We decided to take our menus back inside to return them and wait instead and there were now all these open seats. We approached our waitress again and asked if we could just take a seat at the bar and eat there instead. She said yes and and said she will change our request. I asked if the tab would still be under her that way she gets the tip. About 20 min go by and she never came by. Then the hostess brings over our bagged food... why would we want to eat out of take out containers at the bar? The initial intention of getting carry out is so we are not eating outside in the cold, and we flat out told her that, "I am sorry but can we change to carry out? The temp dropped and there's no table inside." We ended up just taking the food home, even though we were looking forward to eating it fresh there. I guess she never changed the request. I should have expected that since service ceased to exist. It went from great and did a 180. Food itself was average: Chicken and waffles $16 - Belgian Waffle, fried white meat chicken, and spicy Syrup - nothing special. I have had some amazing ones, but this was not one of them. Two of the best chicken and waffles I had were in South Carolina and one in South Philly. Renata's is just sweetened waffles and plain chicken nuggets. I did not like their combo of flavors so I ate them separately. The chicken nuggets themselves were not flavorful... it was by no means herb crusted. To be fair, the menu didn't say herb crusted so I should have just assumed plain chicken tenders. KFC has tastier tenders. The waffles were pretty good.. some bites were more sugary than others but I did like those. I did not like the spicy syrup but I think that is just a personal preference (even though everything else is also opinion!). I love honey and I love spicy, but I do not think this combo worked for me... even though I've had hot honey BBQ etc etc etc. There was also a piece of hair. Normally I can overlook this but this place was just one strike after another. Croque Madame $15 - French Toast Stuffed with Honey ham, Swiss & topped with a sunny side up egg, served with a choice of salad or potatoes. First the sandwhich was very sloppily assembled. The two slices of bread were facing opposite direction. The looked and tasted like Deli ham. Overall flavor not terrible, but also nothing special. Potatoes were so so - not very flavorful and could have been cooked more. Brunch Burger $17 - lamb Burger, fried egg, lettuce, tomato, harissa aioli and fries. Again, very sloppily assembled and they forgot the egg. Thats like $2-3 bucks restaurant value. Overall, I'd say this place is a no go. Kitchen staff takes 0 pride in the work they do. When when I was scooping rice as a waitress I tried to make sure it looked like a picture-perfrct ice cream scoop. Presentation is important too! This is not a food truck... read more

Speaking from an aesthetic standpoint, this a charming little restaurant. It's situated off 42nd & Baltimore Avenue beside the trolley portal. Previously being a long-time Southwest Philly resident, I thought it was a nice use of this area. Their patio is nicely devised and was so pleasant on a day where we finally had weather that didn't melt us. Also, our server was amazing, though I'm forgetting her name (the receipt says Taje - so maybe it's that?). Getting down to business, I had the chicken Mohammar and my hubby had the lamb shank. The presentation excited us, so we immediately took a pic. Unfortunately, the looks belied the actual taste. The meats, each I'm assuming cooked until tender, were moist and a great soft texture but the flavor was surprisingly lacking. Typically when I eat Middle Eastern food I'm sitting trying to guess the flavors. But the Mohammar was lacking in anything, even salt. It was edible, but the absence of seasoning for both our dishes was disappointing. My lavender cocktail was great. Very very sweet though, but a cool drink nonetheless. My husband also ordered a burger and a salad and the burger seemed to elevate his experience, though he thought the salad's mint was overwhelming. We both got dessert too. The blueberry cheesecake did not stand a chance against my hubby and I liked the unique texture and taste of semolina cake. Overall, this was fine. From what I gather, they may cater to the brunch crowd, as I don't see too many dinner reviews. Dinner was OK but nothing amazing. I'd love to try brunch though. read more

I had a super fab fun time at Renata's Kitchen. I was a little apprehensive about dining during Covid times but the restaurant practice safe dining methods. It was not packed with other diners and the restaurant itself had a light and airy vibe. When we arrived at the restaurant we were giving the option to either dine indoors or outside. We choose to eat outside cause it was a beeyutiful day! I ordered the Fattush Salad and it was perfect for the sunny day. My salad was fresh and had chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, mint and chopped romaine. It was a bright and colorful yummy goodness! I also had the roasted eggplant dip that was also divine. Renata's Kitchen also offers creative cocktails and I had the spring fling which had St Germaine- which I heart! gin, honey and pineapple juice. My friend and I came in for lunch on a Sunday Thursday afternoon. I made reservations for outdoor patio dining and we were brought to our table right away. Love the vibes on the patio! We came here because of the good reviews and the many options for my vegan friend. I got the ketfa wrap with fries she got the falafel wrap with fries. We also ordered crispy grape leaves and a bunch of different cocktails. Cocktails were fantastic. On the pricey side but worth it. My wrap looked small but was surprisingly filling. Love the different flavors from the kefta and veggies. Fries could have been alittle crispier but that's just my preference. Service was great and accommodating and they took our temps prior to sitting down so I felt safe from their Covid precautions. Love this place! Would highly recommend. We asked for the check and informed her that we hadn't received our eggplant. She apologized at that point saying that the kitchen couldn't replace or remove it from the bill! We had to wait until the check arrived to find out the good news as we had been anticipating the replacement dish the entire time. We also asked that the tzatziki be served with cucumber instead of pita bread. They imposed a $2 charge without notifying us. I worked over here for over a decade and it sure would've been nice to have something like this over there back then. Anyway we happened upon this by accident. The menu had plenty of options to please all tastebuds. They were offering bogo dips and speads, so we grabbed the Baba Ganouj and the labaneh. Yes, to the first pick, pass on the second (it was bland). We also ordered the batata potatoes (not pictured because we ate them so fast) and harissa maple wings. Both were winners.
