I never write reviews but I got my nails done, gel/dip, two days ago and they started chipping less than 24 hours afterwards. Somehow it was the worst manicure I have ever received and it was the most expensive ($85 before tip). I originally asked for gel builder and they must not know what that is because I did not get that lol. For some reason I received dip with gel on top (I have no clue why this is what I got haha). She was very sweet but clearly, again, did not know what gel builder was and she also did not keep my nails the length I wanted... I asked for my natural nails and she went in to clip them, I stopped her before she started but she filed them down regardless. I asked for her to shape them better, they were all different forms of circles at the end. I could continue on but that feels unnecessary. This was sadly the worst experience I have ever had with a nail salon. read more

The supervisor did a good job and my cuticles, nail repairs and refill, she charged me at discount for $38 so I gave her more tips. She was very knowledgeable, had 26 years of experience so she could be recommending what you don't like to hear as she knows more than the customer. I told her that I will keep the acrylic underneath and she did warn me about the possible downsides. I think she loved her job and is too insisting and passionate about clients who ask for anything out of the ordinary which may cause added issues for their store. I never ask them to take any responsibility for my request and my own action. Overall, she spent so much extra time and work very hard to make me feel good and my nails look perfect. The patrons here are male and female professionals and some from the upper crust. This clean nail salon has been here for more than a decade and is right across the street from the prestigious University High School. As a busy professional guy, I have enjoyed many mani/pedi visits at Rendez-Vous Nails. Price is $28 before tips. I sit in one of those massage/spa chairs and have two girls work on me at the same time. Been their loyal client for two years now. I frequent their establishment once a month. For guys, you don't need any nail polish, only some buffing. Gina, the owner, is very nice and gives excellent service with a smile. She squeezes me in between her busy appointments. I try to stay away from the weekends and holidays when it is packed. They also do Brazilian wax in the back room, but I have never tried it. I only see HAPPY PEOPLE COMING OUT. I don't like giving low stars - this nail shop is between a 2 and 3-star. Their standard manicures are $10 and you really can't beat that. I have been here a few times now (it's walking distance from my apartment) and I have not experienced what other reviewers here have experienced as far as nail polish chipping after a couple of days. Actually, my manicures here have lasted a good week or so - my pedicures longer than that. The cons about this place would be 1) They only accept cash or checks. There is no sign or anything anywhere in the salon that says this. I had to go across the street to Citibank to get cash (they asked me to "leave something" to ensure that I would return). Any successful business, small or not, needs to accept credit/debit cards - eat the $.25 service fee, you will get more customers. 2) They only have one proper manicure station. The rest of the shop is pedicure spa chairs (which I think is why they try so hard to sell mani/pedis). One time I went in for just a manicure and the nail station was occupied so I had to sit in the pedicure spa chair for my manicure. It's awkward to sit there as the spa tub is at your feet so I had to sit sideways - just weird. Pros are they are cheap, good work, and convenient hours. Oh, and I have seen them clean the place and they really scrub that place thoroughly - all the women scrub, mop, sweep and wipe everything down. I was very impressed with this. read more

Here I thought we were sort of friends... had a nice conversation during the manicure, blah, blah, blah but when I realized I didn't have time to stay for the pedicure things turned frantic. There was yelling, arm pulling, and forced arrangements to "come back tomorrow" (which I opted out of). I feel bad things turned out this way, but I felt very uncomfortable at their reaction... maybe if they hadn't made me wait so long for the manicure I wouldn't have needed to leave before the pedi. read more

Walked in here after an appt at SkinSpirit, regret it now. I regularly get gel manicures and this is definitely the worst experience ever. I walked in with gel polish on my nails and while the nail technician was taking it off she was filing really aggressively. She filed down my pinky nail to the point that my finger nail was raw and extremely sensitive. As she was filing it I literally pulled my hand away because of the pain. When I went to wash off the nail dust the water hitting my nail really stung and I knew there was no way I would be able to tolerate gel polish. When I told her I wasn't doing gel polish she continued to push me to do it and I kept telling her I couldn't because it hurt and just got up after going back and forth. This place is getting one star from me for several reasons: - there is no sign anywhere notifying customers that they do not take debit or credit. It is cash or check only. I had to go across the street and get cash out at City bank-for a fee of $3. -once my pedicure was done, the woman says "I'm going to massage your feet while your toenails dry". The woman who gave me a manicure says basically the same thing "I will massage your shoulders while your fingernails dry". Little did I realize that my mani/pedi just jumped from $30 to $50. Am I crazy to think that there should be a sign notifying you that they don't accept debit or credit cards? Or that they do not alert you to the fact that when they offer/tell you that you are going to get a foot massage or shoulder massage that it is going to cost $10 extra for each "massage"? I guess by now, I should realize that nothing in life is free, but sorry, I don't like feeling duped. I also don't like the fact that after I was told that I needed to go to the bank across the street to get cash out that the lady walked outside to watch me do it- as if I was going to ditch out on my tab? This is the first and last time I will be "rendez vous-ing" here. Oh, and did I mention that when I picked the color for my toes that the woman insulted my choice? OR, that when I asked her to cut my toenails shorter she questioned that too? Your average nail salon. They do a good job, and the place is squeaky clean. If you come around closing (6:30/7), you'll notice that they will be cleaning the place like CRAZY. I guess the bleach the floors, every night, and take tooth brushes with bleach to clean the insides on the foot tubs. It's crazy- but makes me feel better about getting my nails done here. Also, there is one woman in particular who does a GREAT eyebrow wax. Yes, I was shocked but became desperate for one a few weeks back. Came here as a last resort and left very pleased. read more

Three times she said that, always adding, "Nails DIRTY!" So I'm a plant person, a garden-lover - - shoot me! Or, better still, don't ever make me go back to that place. Really enjoyed my gel mani and pedi here. Despite the salon filling up after I arrived, both people working on my nails and toes continued to do so rather than one of them leaving to attend to someone else as frequently happens at other salons. They continued to take their time and do a very diligent job. Everyone was very nice and my nails look great. Good selection of colors and I was happy to see they have CND shellac as many places don't carry that line due to the cost :) One note, there is a small $1 fee for using a credit card, no big deal just something to be aware of. Went in again to fix a couple of nails and to try out a gel clear gel coating on my fingernails. Gina did a good job of adding an acrylic tip to my broken pinky fingernail and doing an acrylic patch job on a partially broken index fingernail (cut in 2 places). She also did a good job of putting a clear gel coat (base and top) on all of the fingernails, but I decided overnight that I didn't like the fake look of the acrylic nail and the discoloration (natural) under the damaged index fingernail. Ideally, you use a gel polish w/gel base & top coats but Rendez-Vous has a very limited selection of gel polish colors. So, I asked if we could put my regular polish on under an additional gel coat. Gina said yes. So, that's what we did but it didn't come out well. The surface of the gel over the polish was bumpy and grainy and a couple of the nails started to crack overnight because the coat was too thick (at my request to try to cover over the bumps). So, I asked Gina just to take everything off and go back to my natural nails (except for the acrylic pinky tip and acrylic patch on the index finger. It's not easy removing gel coating. Gina first used a dremel to sand off most of the gel, polish and clear gel top coats and then soaked the nails in acetone and then hand sanded the remaining gel off. Then after buffing out the nails, she but a base coat, 3 color coats and a top coat on the fingernails. A lot of work. Was charged $35 for the 1st acrylic fix/clear gel work, $10 for the polish/gel and $15 to remove all of the gel and polish the nails (excluding $10 in tips I also gave her). The prices were reasonable and comparable to what other shops charge and Gina was very pleasant in working w/me doing and undoing all of the work which turned out to be a relatively expensive $70 "experiment". I think I want to try gel again BUT I may chose another salon that has a better selection of gel polish colors to do it at (or buy a gel polish color plus the gel base/top coats on my own that I can bring back into Rendez-Vous or another shop. This is not a knock on Rendez-Vous (because the cost of the gel polish is very expensive and its a burden for them to carry colors that their customers may never use). I still think Rendez-Vous is A-ok based on the service that I've received so far but I wouldn't recommend it for gel work unless you want clear w/ or w/o french tips or one of the basic colors that they offer. read more

The ladies at Rendez-Vous Nails do you right. They're quick, efficient and the rates they charge are easily affordable. Better than all that, they're very, very good. I've paid twice as much for mani/pedis at luxurious spas and felt shortchanged because the "nail technicians" simply weren't as good, or as thorough as the women here. It's clean, well lit and if you put the spa chair's back massager on vibrate while getting your toes painted, it's just a little piece of heaven. And, another benefit. Let me just say that getting waxed is no picnic. The only part worse than getting your hair ripped out of its follicles from your most sensitive areas is the fact that the person doing it sees more of you than the partner with whom you're intimate. Trust me on that one. So, at least here they're super fast (and nice). And, because they're quick to take care of business, the experience is, well, tolerable. If you go for the grand slam and do all three, you can be out in an hour for less than $60. read more

I've been going to Rendez-Vous for more than 10 years. And Gina is the only person in San Francisco I'll let get hot wax anywhere near my brows. She's fantastic! The mani/pedis I get here also last for-ever! A huge boon when I get them before extended business trips on which I know that a salon trip won't allow for my usual weekly pampering session. Price-wise, they're spot on with most other salons, but be prepared for a very hard upsell on pretty much all services from the question of "spa chair?" when you ask about getting a mani/pedi to the offer for extended hand, foot or neck/shoulder massages. On that last point, at a buck a minute, I'd highly recommend ponying up and getting a little rubdown while your nails are drying. And if you're lucky enough to be there at a slow time, I say step up and get foot and neck/shoulder at the same time ... heavenly. It's very much a neighborhood joint and if you go more than once Gina and the ladies will absolutely recognize you. A key thing to know - they do NOT take plastic. Cash or check only. There's a Citibank ATM on the corner, but make sure to come with some green in your pocket - especially if you want to enjoy a good massage! NOTE: I'm amending my review because I took a little visit last weekend to Rendez-Vous for my usual trip and ... well ... there are a few points that bear mentioning. Some people need to fix their attitude. And I'm not talking about the staff at Rendez-Vous. I'm talking about some of the patrons. Don't get me wrong, I'm not always the model customer. I've been known to fly in there when I'm rushed, feeling cranky and yes I've been "that person" who demands to be taken care of RIGHT NOW. But to be honest, I do my best *not* to be that person ... especially since the ladies at Rendez-Vous are just so lovely and accommodating. I've read some of the recent reviews here and while I don't know who those people are, I'm pretty sure I could pick them out if I saw them at the salon. What I'd say is judge Rendez-Vous for yourself. The prices are posted VERY obviously - on a standing sign on the sidewalk outside, on a visible sign on the wall and on a pricing chart that sits on the cashier desk. If you want a super high end chi-chi spa treament experience, go to Nob Hill. if you want a superb mani/pedi experience in a warm, friendly, neighborhood environment where most of the patrons know each other from coming regularly and where pricing is on par with any other spot you'll find in town ... then Rendez-Vous is the place for you. cannot recommend this place after having tried them three times. the woman who worked on my nails was brisk and tense and at times barked orders at others - not at all relaxing. time management was awful. i get that things can run long but i was left waiting for thirty minutes after having reconfirmed an appointment time just before coming in. once they started i gave a firm time i had to go and suggested lesser services to ensure i left on time . i was reassured repeatedly they could do everything but they ran over another 20 minutes. i was pressured to do things i said i didn't want to do, repeatedly and strongly - i know everyone at this location works hard but they need to listen to customers better, lighten up and remember people are here to relax . read more

I like this place. It's super cheap ($10 for a mani) and they have a bunch of Essie and OPI products to choose from. Sure, they have their own conversations whilst working on my nails, but who cares?
