Corn dog and fries with side of HollaBama sauce
    Emily B.

Went and tried the Rendezvous Kitchen food truck tonight after hearing so much praise. I understand why it's so highly praised. I'm not vegetarian or vegan and could not tell that this was not a "real" corn dog. The HollaBama sauce on the side is so good and the fried Oreos are some of the best I've ever had! They even come with a side of whipped peanut butter! Definitely suggest checking them out!!

This vegan food truck is a vibe and I love it! While I really want to give RendezVous 5 stars, I can't fully commit to that yet. My vegan Chick'n wings were good, but very salty. That said, the bite I took of my girlfriend's corn dog was delicious, the curly fries were spot on, and their fried Oreos were fluffy with the perfect bit of crunch! I'll definitely be back to try more things! I have a good feeling I'll be updating this review soon, so keep an eye out!

VEGAN corn dog??? Yes, please!!! Super delicious. Crispy on the outside, but soft cornbread texture on the inside. And curly fries. I will definitely be ordering this again! Hollabama sauce was unique and really tasty! I kept going back to that one to dip both my fries and my corn dog! The bbq sauce and buffalo sauces were both good as well! The chicken sandwich had a great flavor and amazing crunch on the breading! I liked it! I will say (especially if there are meat eaters visiting this vegan spot), the texture is not like regular chicken. It's softer for sure. Still tasty, but I think it's good to know ahead of time so you can enjoy it for what it is. I really liked the buffalo sauce with this sandwich. And did I mention the yummy crisp curly fries?? Yep, definitely coming back to try more things on the menu! So awesome to have a food truck like this in Birmingham! I recommend placing the order online (I used the link on their Instagram page). Easy to order and was ready when we arrived at the food truck!

Awesome vegan food. So happy to find this place! Order was prepared quickly. Thanks so much for being there.

I gave Rendezvous three chances to keep my business. As a vegetarian living in Alabama, it's hard enough to find a restaurant that caters to your dietary needs. I was THRILLED when this place opened and had a few good experiences. The last three times however have been horrible. Strike one, my wife and I met at opening time to get wings, they claimed their chick'n wouldn't be done for at least 30 minutes. Not ready at opening? Do you not prep? Strike 2 was waiting over an HOUR with friends for our food only for them to have "lost" their ticket. Upon finally getting their food, their order was wrong? C'mon! No apologies, no attempt to make it better, nothing. Strike three was tonight, after being told my order would be ready in 12 minutes, then waiting 23, and then driving home, I found the up charge order of street corn, instead of fries, I was charged for was missing from the bag. Really? I probably should have checked, but I was giving the truck the benefit of the doubt. It was printed on my receipt in big red letters. Never again. As one if very few vegan establishments in Birmingham, much less Alabama, like it or not, you are a representative of the lifestyle. You're instantly turning off anyone with the slightest apprehension about vegan food with your lack of preparation, poor time management, and inability to get an order right. You lost a big advocate and in this community, that's one too many.

My husband (non-plant based) and I both got the corn dog with curly fries and both loved it.

Fast forward to this week, 7/2024. It was my turn to pick a place for happy hour. I called SKA last Thursday & asked what time happy hour is? The staff replied "Either 4pm or 5pm until 7pm." I asked her to please find out and I'd wait. In response she asked me what time I planned to come. I told her, 4pm. She responded, "YOU SHOULD BE FINE AROUND THEN." I was baffled and just asked for her name and ended the call ... We went to Courtyard 280 ‍ It just so happened that my friends picked SKA for brunch today, Saturday. I'd resolved that I was going for the company and would put all of my past experiences aside. My food experience had been prior the food truck and brick and mortar. So I was open to giving them a chance. I'm so so glad I did! They refer Saturday brunch as a Day Party. It's on the louder end of the spectrum, which is perfectly appropriate for a day party vibe. There was a DJ ... at some point my friend asked, Are they playing GloRilla?!? lol! I'm a fan so it was fine. Our waiter had great energy and he was attentive. The decor is nice. We ordered the mimosa flight. They were good, 4 flavors - strawberry, mango, blueberry, peach - not too sweet. I ordered shrimp and grits. The grits were thick (that's how I like them) and well seasoned. The shrimp was plentiful! was not over cooked at all. There was shrimp in most every bite. I'd recommend this. My friend ordered the fried catfish and grits and said she enjoyed it. The biscuit tasted canned - it wasn't needed though. This was a nice experience!

I've seen them in various parts of town so chances are you've seen them around the Birmingham area at least once or twice. My go to is the polish dog that comes with a welcomed large polish sausage, onions and peppers drenched in their special sauce. The polish sausage is thick and seasoned with garlic. It's meat-forward. Big polish sausage dogs covered in chili/debris/perfectly sautéed onions, burgers that are dripping with goodness and heavy when you pick them up. Fries that are always crisp and piping hot. Long term consistent execution. As sure a thing as you're gonna get from a truck. If you see it, and you're hungry, consider yourself blessed.
