This was our second time going to Renee's and again had a great experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a small restaurant, and so for larger parties, like our party of 9 this time, they don't have tables inside that can accommodate that but they have a nice, shaded area right in front that can fit up to 15 outside I believe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have two large fans above the shaded outdoor area which kept things at a comfortable temp even though it was in the high 90s at the time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As usual, their food was delicious. We ordered 4 pizzas and all were good. We particularly liked the Chiles and Cream Pizza, Everything Pizza, and the Pesto Pizza. Some in our group had the Penne Pesto Pasta with chicken and my wife and I shared the Penne Arrabbiate with meatballs, and both were fantastic, and the server automatically split the dishes for us. The dessert, Lemon Posset, I still remember from last time and have longed to try it again, and it was a hit. We were sad though that they only had 3 left since our group of 9 would have had more if they had it. Delicious!

Ending our special day at one of my favorite restaurants in Tucson was the perfect choice! Every bite somehow got better and better -- from the fresh and flavorful apple walnut poppyseed salad to the rich and satisfying papas con queso pizza, and finishing with a delicious tiramisu that was the perfect sweet ending. Thank you, Renee, for making our evening so enjoyable with your wonderful service and warm hospitality. You helped make a perfect night even more special!

I went here for lunch with a friend on Friday and was nervous since the website suggests making reservations. Fortunately it was pretty empty when we came around 2:30pm. My friend ordered the Caprese board and I ordered the meatballs in jalepeno sauce appetizer. Both were disappointing to me.. I mean the caprese board there wasn't much to be done but I've definitely had better. But the meatballs were a 0/5.. just bland and the sauce was not much better, with no detection of jalepeno. We both got Detroit style pizzas which were the saving grace. Good presentation, portion, and tasted good. Nothing here blew my mind but happy to have finally made it here to try.

Renee's is a small restaurant on tanque verde and sabino canyon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The indoor seating is limited, but they also have patio seating available.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their pizza is awesome, but what I really loved was their coney dog. You can tell the chili is freshly made. Our server was also very attentive and accommodating to my special request to have pesto on only half my pizza. I'll be back to enjoy other pizzas and coneys in the future!

I ordered from their takeout restaurant. Not sure if they let you order these things at the main restaurant but thats where you pick the food up and where Grubhub gets it. Is any case I heard they had authentic coney island dogs and Detroit style pizza. The coney islands was what had ne order, I reluctantly ordered a pizza. My experience in Tucson with Detroit style pizza is overpriced poor quality pizza. First the coney islands, they're nit as good as Apollos or other top places in Michigan but thise places aren't in Tucson. So these hit the spot and scratched that itch. The pizza I loved all high quality ingredients, still smallish but we'll worth it. My wife did not like it but shes not a fan of browned cheese. Id order again. Oh remember to place your orders early because they run out. This was my second attempt at getting food from here.

Always a great experience. Fantastic food - Meatballs & Marinara Sauce, Garlic Knots, Cheese Ravioli, and a BYO Calzone - on this visit and great service.

Renee's requires an advance reservation to get an indoor booth and you have to put a card down to hold the reservation. They also have a $10 per person cancellation fee for any reservation cancelled under 24 hours. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is not the place to go with children under 12 as they do not allow them for indoor dine-in seating, nor for large group events as they do not have the seating space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, they do allow children in the outdoor patio seating area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While the customer service and Italian food is good, and the portions are decent sized. The menu is also pretty limited and they do not have a full bar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you are going for the intimate/date night atmosphere it falls a bit short without a full bar or music to support that sort of ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a tiny restaurant that seems to be a well-loved place to go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had made a reservation for lunch using Open Table. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our booth felt very private.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are only a few tables indoors and a few more on the patio out front.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was attentive. I appreciated that they offer zoodles as a low carb option to pasta noodles. I ordered the seared chicken breast low carb meal. While it was good, the portion wasn't very large. For as much as it cost, I would've thought it'd come with a salad or something. Also, they don't offer soup, which sounded good on a chilly day. They now offer Coney dogs for a pretty reasonable price. My friend ordered that with the hot potato chips, which were the only available chips. She enjoyed it. It looks like they have one menu, with no less expensive lunch options.

I think Renee's is one of the top Italian restaurants in Tucson. When you visit you'll know why. Extensive menu that's hits all the favorites, and the standout for me is the meat Lasagna. The pizza is also very good with many options. Desserts are made in house. We were too full try any, but they sounded wonderful. There is a top-notch wine list. They do not offer spirits. Space is very limited inside and there are four patio tables. A reservation is a must and they use Open Table. Kids under 12 are not permitted in the dining room. Ask about the patio. Our server Stephanie has been on the job for a month. She knew the menu and served us well. Prices seemed moderate to me. Looking forward to our next visit.

Loved the zoodles with creamy pesto, it is very filling. Penne pasta was in the sour end. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cozy ambiance and helpful and friendly waitress.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The estimated wait for two was 10 minutes so we grabbed drinks and headed upstairs to their cute/loft lounge. As we passed the entrance we already heard the host increasing wait time to 20 minutes. For drinks she had got the house red cabernet and for me the bartender and I whipped up a little custom cocktail (see pic). Moments later our table was ready. Note: Penelope operates on a novel "community-waiter" system so don't be confused if a totally different person comes by to: take appetizers, check on you, order entrees, check on you again, and order dessert! We've often had four different staff during a meal here and all are super friendly with experience-filled opinions about everything on the menu. We ordered the Burrata and Tomatoes app which arrived in barely 5 minutes - the cheese is traditionally mozzarella-like but here it was almost ricotta-soft... and melded deliciously with the mildly acidic slices of ripe tomato and lots of pistachio pesto (nice twist chef!). We split the Sgt Pepper pizza this time, craving both sausage and roasted chilis. It arrived in 15 minutes with ample sausage and just a few burnt bubbles (totally ok because we know these thin-crusts must be flash broiled at super high temps (around 1k degrees). We demolished the 'za but both of us would like to have seen a bit more green chili. We were looking forward to the olive oil cake however, at 7pm, they had just sold the last slice (confirmed by our "second dessert waiter" who wandered by a few minutes later ;) Atmosphere is casual-elevated and sound levels aren't bad despite the density of tables - likely due to the 20 foot tall ceilings. Parking is free/easy in their private lot and it appears they do a popular takeout business too. We are both looking forward to their return to downtown this fall with Penelope's II !

We were seated right away since it wasn't busy, and things started off simple enough with bread and oil. We asked for parmesan to go with it, and our server seemed unsure how to respond, eventually bringing out packet parm even though fresh was clearly available. Not a huge deal, but we found it odd. A little later, we asked for more bread. The server told us they were out but, "that they could probably make more". . He relayed it to the woman handling bread, who then made more for another table and skipped us entirely. He mentioned it again to her when he saw us looking in their direction. she looked over, and still nothing. It was awkward, since the restaurant is the size of a closet. Once the pizza came, we got up ourselves to ask for more oil and parmesan, since our waiter hadn't come to check back. We got the oil instantly since we brought us the bowl, but no parmesan. At one point my son asked for bread, again, finally it came and the server literally tossed it on the table without a word. We said thank you and he completely ignored all of us. It didn't get any better from there. The bill was dropped on the table without a word either. My husband and I kept looking at each other with confused looks. We turned the bill in with our CC, and once the server returned it, same thing, not a single interaction. We also watched the same server make another table feel like an inconvenience over something as simple as asking for a bottle of Coke instead of a can. The customer ended up backing down just to avoid the hassle. The server then told the guest, "it's fine, I can get it for you!" On top of that, staff were wearing gloves while handling food, but also touching chairs, phones, and other surfaces; kind of defeats the purpose I think? My boys also had a weird interaction with a staff near the bathrooms who was very rude to them and accused them of cutting the line, despite no one waiting. It was very strange. Bottom line: the food is incredible, no question. But the service was so bad it's hard to ignore. Best advice, get it to go and skip the experience inside.

We ordered the butter pecan salad which was amazing. Loved everything about it, I was hesitant that they only had butter lettuce but I think I appreciated the soft lettuce with the crunch of the apple and pecans in it. The dressing was phenomenal. For a pizza we got just the pepperoni, I saw a lot of margarita pizzas with pepperoni being made and I think we would've liked that option better with the fresh chunks of mozzarella. The cheese they use for the regular pizza is a very strong flavor, probably a nice aged parm so that really came through. We are sauce people so it was hard to appreciate the sauce with the strong profile of the cheese which is why I think we would've liked the margarita pizza better We had the panna cotta for desert and my husband LOVED it. They prep it in advance in cute little mason jars. Overall not a bad spot. Service was great, salad was phenomenal. We started with the ABG salad that surprised me because I'm usually not a big fan of Gorgonzola, but the combination of green apple, pecan brittle, and cheese worked really well together and made for a great balance of flavors. For the pizza, we ordered the mushroom pizza and added pepperoni. The sauce was excellent I believe was some sort of a garlic/oil white sauce the mushroom portion was generous which I absolutely love, and the crust was exactly what I look for crunchy on the outside while still soft and slightly sweet inside. My only minor complaint with the toppings is that the $4 pepperoni add on felt a bit light, we only had a 2 or 3 slices per piece. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that our pizza was just slightly overcooked. The bottom was charred all the way around; wasn't burnt to the point of sending it back, but definitely left in the oven a minute or two longer than it needed to be. It wasn't busy when we visited, and it seemed like the employee rotating pizzas was a little more focused on chatting with FOH coworkers than keeping an eye on the oven. I've worked in pizza restaurants for nearly a decade, so I may be a bit more particular than most customers. Realistically, if our pizza had come out even a minute earlier, it would have been a 10/10 meal. That said, I enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back. The quality is there, and I'm looking forward to trying more of the menu in the future.

Questioned if we came at 2 pm we'd like to eat and get some food to go. Her recommendation of the Yukon potato pizza and the Caesar salad was magnificent. Yes it was sliced Yukon potatoes on this pizza. The cream sauce with the roasted garlic was magnificent. Summer nailed it. Since we were the only two people in Reilly at 2:30, the wonderful chef made us a large pizza to go, and the most delicious rigatoni with the best red sauce I've ever Tasted! Pasta dishes are only on the dinner menu, but he was gracious enough to make it for us so we could pack it in our cooler for Reno, dinner in 2 days! The pizza is to die for, everything was fresh. They take a lot of passion with how they prepare the food and serving their customers. I took a picture with the staff Because they were so accommodating and they just made my day Smile. Thank you so much for your great service. Your manager should be very happy with his crew. Summer, you were so informative and so was the chef. We will be back in January next year and make sure anybody I know in Tucson comes to this restaurant. Blessings to you.

A stunning restaurant with a place for everyone…read more This was at the top of a friend's list for us as we are in town. She shared the lore of it being a former funeral home/crematorium which adds a layer of mystery. The main restaurant is visually and architecturally stunning. There is a more casual beer garden, and then hidden within (down in the basement) the tough luck club - which is a dark and edgy speakeasy style bar. Service was excellent. The staff was very personable, quick to welcome us and take our orders. The pizza looked amazing and I heard many notes of it being the best crust ever consumed. My GF/DF pizza did not hit the same notes. The crust was dense and gummy. The overall pizza was pretty bland. I ordered the marinara pizza with garlic and mushrooms. I ate 1.5/4 pieces out of hunger alone, but it wasn't even worth taking the rest home. Despite the sad GF pizza, I'd definitely come back and try something else if in town again.

I went here on a Saturday for…read morelunch and despite the summer heat the patio was shaded and breezy thanks to some overhead water misters. The kitsch level is high but so is the quality. You order at the window and it seems like they bake it fresh. We waited maybe 15 minutes for hot out the oven pizzas. I was so impressed with the quality ingredients and the sizes of the slices! They're not lying about the size. These are GIANT slices. Just 1 slice is enough for an adult or teen. My littlest needed to break it into two meals.

Went here Friday night and was excited as I had never noticed this place before. As my husband and…read moreI walked up, we walked inside a small seating area, then came back out to the bar area, looking for where we should order or get menus. After a bit, a customer at the bar greeted us and gave us a tip on how big the slices of pizza were. Soon after, we realized where the menus were, followed by a server at the bar greeting us and giving us information. I was glad for his help, but there was a good whike in between that I feel was a little weird and lacking of service. They have a small indoor seating area where you can also get fountain drinks, as well as an outside covered patio that has a couple ceiling heaters throughout . You order at a window near the bar, then seat yourself. Your food is done brought to you. We attempted to order a couple slices of the specialty pizza, only to be told that the specialty pizzas could only be ordered as a whole pie. So we ordered a 12 inch pizza half company combo and half carnivore. We also got an order of the sweet chili wings . The sweet chili wings were cool, not bad, but also nothing to brag about. The pizza I was actually disappointed in... it reminded me of pizza from the frozen aisle at the grocery store. It was thin and had a crunch at the bottom. I will say that I like my pizza dough, thicker, so that probably affected my opinion of their pizza as well. Glad I tried it, but don't think I will be back.

There is no…read morevisible signage so you'll need to deliberately be told to seek this place out (awesome)... and it's worth it. Because of it's tiny venue and big reputation you will likely never walk in and get seated right away. Never. Fear not, they do a brisk take-out business but you must walk around the corner (20 steps) to their side window where pickup orders are placed. Bonus: Crooked Tooth Brewery (a cool industrial bar) is directly across the alley and you are allowed to bring your pizza and eat it there. We were catching a play at the Rogue and sought something within walking distance, hello Anello! With their rotating, locally-sourced menu, we ordered what was new: seasonal roasted veggies ($11) - incredible; coupled with our fav Verde pizza ($17) + pepperoni ($4). And two Old Fashionables ($13) - strong, delicious, and not too sweet. We split their one-size pizza (roughly 12" medium) in order to save room for their famous, rotating desserts. Their 'zas are super thin crust and really need to be eaten straight from the oven so that the bottom never has a chance to get soggy. The pesto/parsley puree was divine and a nice change from traditional marinera. It paired nicely with the savory/plentiful mini pepperonis too. We were torn between the olive oil cake and the blue corn lemon tart... so we got both! ($9 each). An excellent call as we carefully paced our way through, one slow bite at a time. Service was outstanding and we never felt rushed. This is a small, local, eatery with a blooming reputation for both quality and creativity that honestly deserves Bib Gourmand consideration - although I would rather it remain off the grid! Parking can be a challenge, especially evenings when both Anello and Crooked Tooth are hopping but it's a short walk from the trolly too. FYI, they are closed Sun/Mon.

Clearly Anello has taken the crown for the best pizza in Tucson. They are hard to find (no…read moresignage) and have a limited menu, but what they do, they do extremely well. This is not the kind of pizza you want to carry out. The bottom crust is so thin and delicate, it will wet out in 15 minutes. This is pizza you order and eat on-premises immediately. I ate my pizza in a fashion I have never done before - I broke off a piece of the outside crust to use as a carrier for a piece of filling. This worked well. The crust is perfectly light and airy. Next time I have to try a loaf of their bread - it looked incredible. If you are a pizza purist you will love this place.
