Love this place. On of the first we ate at upon moving here ! My daughter has a gluten & dairy intolerance, so finding places to eat where she didn't have to break down the ingredients, was very important to us. She has been able to order most items from.thw menu, but best of all...she can eat GOOD pizza! Not the kind that tastes like cardboard! Renee's never disappoints! Today we celebrated her 17th Birthday there... and shared out gluten free-dairy free cake with everyone. I simply love this restaurant. I'm vegan and my wife is *mostly* vegan who occasionally enjoys real cheese on her pizza, so we really appreciate their option of ordering half and half pizzas. I'm a huge fan of Vegan Crush and my wife goes with custom toppings and dairy mozzarella, while I can always add Daiya. I also adore their cinnamon rolls and have heard a lot about the garlic knots, but I haven't ordered them myself (yet). I'm afraid if I try them, I may get addicted to them as well. I really want to try other vegan options that they have, but every time we order there I just can't say 'no' to my beloved Vegan Crush. For me, it's just THE BEST pizza in town. Btw, my recent experience with Renee's ordering by phone and picking up was fast and smooth, no extra waiting. So, either I got super lucky or they improved on that front. After a hike at Sabino Canyon, I was starving. I came for the lunch special - $6 for a slice of pizza and a bright pink prickly pear cactus lemonade. The pizza was outstanding - it was their special of the day - and big enough to fill me up. I was initially surprised by how small the restaurant was - it's more the size of a cafe and at lunch, it was packed. The design of the restaurant wasn't what I expected either, but regardless, the food was amazing. The woman next to be was a regular and gave me some suggestions. I want to try everything here! I've known about Renee's for years but never tried it since we live in Sahuarita. We finally made a reservation and went yesterday. I'm so upset that we didn't try this place sooner. It was well worth the drive and is our new favorite place. The service was great and the food was even better. The four of us ordered lasagna, ravioli, spaghetti & meatballs, and fettuccine Alfredo. We started with a bread appetizer with honey and ended the meal with cheesecake. Every single thing was perfection. It's the best Italian food in the area. The aperol spritz was light and refreshing too. Food doesn't usually excite us, but we are all still talking about it today. I'm just mad that we didn't go a long time ago! read more

On Saturday, October 14th. I made a reservation at Renee's for 2pm the following day. We arrived early, only to be told there is not a table available. There were no seats available for us to sit down while we were waiting, We waited until 2:15 and complained to the waitress about this poor service. She was not cordial to us, displaying a lack of consideration. When we again spoke of our dissatisfaction, she responded by refusing to service us. What arrogance! I guess the maxim that, "The customer is always right," does not apply to Renee's. We went to Renee's Organic Oven in search of good vegan fare in Tucson. We were looking for a nice, relaxing dinner with good ambiance and even better food. We sat outside on nice chairs and a good sized table. I have to admit, with it having only 12" pizzas, I was skeptical. I wasn't sure if I'd like the crust to topping ratio. As it turns out, I was very wrong and very happily wrong too. The pizza was fantastic. I got the vegan pizza with a few modifications. My wife made her own and both were AMAZING. The flavors were unique and rich. The crust was very good. We ended up taking half the pizza home to relish for a later day (consequently only about 24hours was all we could wait). Also the service was wonderful. Even though it was crowded when we left, our server was prompt and attentive. All in all, this made for a great night out - mixing good atmosphere with good food and good service. Definitely recommend for a date night or a 'treat yourself' evening. read more

What a delightful dining experience we had at Renee's! I love Italian food. Renee's was highly rated, and they advertised Gluten-free, which is a must for my dearest. Once we arrived, we saw they only have 3 tables inside! That's why we had to have a reservation. My vegetarian lasagna was delicious! The atmosphere was very nice in our little booth. The waitress was very nice and attentive. Later, she left and Renee, yes, The Renee took over! We congratulated her on making a great little restaurant. If I were go to go back to Renee's, it would only be for their 10" gluten free pizza (it only comes in one size) or any regular pizza over 12". Everything else that I tried on their on the menu (the desserts & the regular 8" pizza) can go on with their bad selves. The gluten-free pizza was a crunchy, thin, palette pleaser. Two out of five of us ordered the personalized versions and I couldn't get enough. Papa ordered the 12" regular crust for his barbecue (cage-free, organic) chicken pizza subbing Daiya (vegan) cheese in place of the regular. As we parted the table, there was precisely one slice left! Score! The rest of us (two more), ordered the smallest pizzas (8") with regular crusts. Grandma ate all of hers--at this point in her life, her tastebuds are not as discriminating as the rest of us. My personal pizza, on the other hand, was wrong, but I must mention they kindly took it off the bill without any hesitation. Perhaps it was my fault in my choice of toppings, but there was more than one of us that did not have a liking for the odd taste of the crust and lack of flavor in the ingredients. Between the vegan, gluten free "whoopie pie" that seemed to have no cream substitute (for my favorite creamy middle part) and the "pistachio" aka the vanilla ice cream with pistachio nuts scarcely placed throughout, we could have easily enjoyed dessert else where. They did have a handful of impressive wines (even carrying a yummy cab from M. Cosentino in Lodi), mixed cocktail drinks and hand-crafted beers (including a gluten free pilsner!) Also, there was nothing but goodness in the customer service department. For being in a fairly larger group than most of the other tables...we were served quickly and attended throughout our visit with timeliness, tolerance and great attitudes. For dine-in or take out I would for sure come back. Just writing about that gluten free pizza makes me hungry and craving for more. Yum! read more

It's been almost two years since I wrote my first review and really, it should've been 5-stars then (but I was holding off for a full meal!) Renee and Steve are 5-stars alone. There couldn't possibly be a more dedicated and awesome couple running a business together. Love them! These cinco estrellas are also for the lovely staff and of course the fresh and quality delicious food. It's like eating a homemade meal. The spinach dip is still the BEST in town. It's so delicious, ordering it to share is a little stressful for me. The tostadas- you simply can't go wrong with these- both the black bean tostada and the hummus tostada are equally good- topped with fresh and crisp ingredients. Lasagna in general isn't one of my favorites, but Renee's chicken and pesto lasagna is a game changer. Creamy layers of cheese, pesto and marinara with free-range chicken. Order it. The pizza here is a no brainer- but I hadn't tried the Thai Curry pizza until recently and the vegan version of it is off the charts. Coconut red curry sauce in place of regular old tomato sauce makes this pie badass and the crunch form the cashews and sweetness from the pineapple make this the most unique pie in town. Vegan or not, this pizza is not to be missed. As others have noted, ROO is a small and intimate space, so make sure to make a reservation, as this place gets packed early! It's been a bit over a year since my last review of Renee's, so time for an update! Still five stars, still awesome as ever! Everything I mentioned about dinner in my last review is still true today. The dishes are prepared fresh with fresh, high quality ingredients. The hummus is still my favorite thing ever, with the fresh garlicky bread. Mmmmmmm. Renee and her crew understand flavors and how to season dishes perfectly! This last point was made really apparent on our last visit to Renee's for breakfast. Since I've already written about dinner, and just summarized again, the rest of this review will be about our breakfast at Renee's. This was our first time trying their breakfast. The breakfast hours were ending too early for us, but they were extended sometime in the last few months, which gave us the opportunity to give it a try! Yay! What we ordered: the vegetarian breakfast casserole (Organic eggs, red peppers, gluten free bread, spinach, garlic, basil, provolone, cheddar & mozzarella), the vegetarian breakfast calzone (Eggs, Spinach, Red Peppers, Onions, Garlic, Provolone Cheese), and a biscuit with kiwi jam. Let's start with the simplest item first, the biscuit. Once upon a time, I used to eat at a restaurant that had the word "biscuit" in its name. I was disappointed to find out that their biscuits were made with mass produced batter junk. It made me weary of all biscuits then on. I ordered one at Renee's with the only hope of it being reminiscent of a biscuit and edible. What I got was a beautiful, picture perfect, large and delicately browned biscuit. Clearly made fresh. It was a thing of beauty. I'm sorry I didn't take a photo of it. It was flaky and tender and delicious. The kiwi jam was unique and went perfect with the biscuit. The eggs in both the casserole and the calzone were perfectly prepared. They were light and fluffy and seasoned just right. Not bland and not too salty. The entire casserole was nice and fluffy, actually, even considering it had a few different types of cheeses in it. There was plenty of cheese, but not too much to make the casserole too heavy. The pieces of bread were a delight to find in a bite. I thought the bread was going to end up making the dish bland or dry, but it did neither. Instead, they were moist and like little flavor nuggets! Excellent dish! The flavor of the calzone's ingredients were reminiscent of the casserole because they're basically the same just in different form. The calzone uses the same dough as their other bread products, which is awesome because it's perfect! It was baked to a nice brown. I feel like the calzone was a tiny bit heavier of a dish, so I prefer the casserole, but they both tasted great and are worth trying (and going back for over and over again!). Both dishes came with a side of roasted potatoes. Usually I just kinda push side potatoes aside and say "meh" to them. Renee's treated them like a side dish meant to be eaten! They were cooked through but not mush, they were salted and seasoned well, and they had lots of black pepper. It was a total surprise to both myself and my husband when we each realized that we both ate all of our side potatoes. That never happens! Kudos for paying attention to everything on the plate! So, another great meal at Renee's! Try them if you haven't already! You won't be disappointed! read more

We came here starving from a long hike and the food here definitely hit the spot. I highly recommend the meat lasagna, perfectly baked, perfectly cheesy. I just finished the leftovers a few seconds ago.. and mmhmm still amazing! I found the spinach and artichoke dip pretty good, I would've preferred a higher vegetable to cream ratio, but the fiancee thought it was perfect. The bread here is very clearly freshly baked and goes great with the meal. The have refreshing drinks such as the Blueberry Sage Sweet Tea and the Prickly Pear Lemonade (though if I closed my eyes from the pinkness I may not have tasted it). Full cocktail menu which I'll have to sample next time I'm on the East side! Extra points from me for having a dog-friendly patio, which consists of a few tables along the parking lot. It was super awesome to find an Italian restaurant that was not only organic, but also had gluten free and keto options. While I was impressed with the menu options, I was a little bit disappointed in the execution. The sauces were just lacking flavor. I would have loved to taste some garlic in the pesto sauce, I really didn't detect any hint of parmesan either and for whatever reason they left the pine nuts out of my dish. My sister had pesto ravioli and raved about it, hers did include pine nuts. Also the family raved about the garlic knots and the cheesecake which was gluten free and amazing! The sauces were so close, if only the seasoning was kicked up a notch. Would try again if in town. read more

"I may have just eaten the best pizza ever." These were my words to Renee, owner of Renee's Organic Oven, who had come to our table to ask how we liked our meal. Their motto is "Eat well. Feel good." and everything they do makes sure this happens. A wonderful selection of foods from classic pizzas to veggie pizzas (my favorite right now) to 5 Cheeses to Thai Curry. Salads: Tossed, Spinach, Greek, Caprese, Roasted Pepper, Avocado, and Caesar. Subs, calzones, and sandwhiches and marinara melts. Their desserts include Isabella's Ice Cream. Their beers are a wide selection of New Belgium. Many vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices with meats from grass-fed animals. The restaurant itself is relaxing, the service is friendly and attentive. Renee's just went to the top of my list of favorite Tucson restaurants and I encourage everyone who loves tasty, healthy cooking with a flair to come visit Renee's. You will not be disappointed. We were visiting Tuscon from California and after researching gluten free restaurants in the area, and as a foodie, Renees was one I was excited about. We were staying on the other side of town and drove 40 mins to get there. Unfortunately, we were never able to try the food. When we arrived we were told by the hostess we could not sit inside because we had a child under the age of 12, in a contentious tone and without stating a reason why. Nowhere on there website or signage on site made any indication of this policy. Then when we went outside we were told we had to move to another table that didn't have a heater so someone else could sit where we were. By this point we had felt we were treated so poorly and to avoid escalation, we walked away to eat elsewhere. The hostess was unfortunately very contentious towards us from the beginning, not sure if she was having a bad day or what it was but it reflected very poorly on the restaurant. Hoping for the restaurant and other patrons sake better attention is paid to customer service. read more

As always I love this place. The pizza is fantastic and the service is always great. My husband and I went a few weeks ago, I got the BBQ pizza and he had the Thai pizza...both were great! We had the meatballs as a starter, which was also very good and there were a lot of them. The service was great too! I thought it was really nice that they brought me wine to taste bc I couldn't decided what type I wanted. This is a small, cozy place with excellent food at a very reasonable price. For what it is, you can't beat it. My parents were in from Chicago, and my Dad is a pizza freak. We had some confusion about the location, as this used to be called "Eclectic Pizza," so I was looking for that sign. The sign for "Renee's Organic Oven" did not tell me that it was a pizza joint, and I had to find Dad in the parking lot to figure it out. I'm a carnivore and I can eat anything - milk, cheese, meat, and anything with gluten - but Renee's specializes in serving dishes that cater to people with those sensitivities. Fortunately, the flavor and quality of ingredients is not lost. We had a conversation with our server about the sign. It turns out that Renee renamed the place (with a new sign to match), to place the emphasis on "organic," since they were getting confusion with Eclectic Cafe' next door. My Dad, who loves pizza and doesn't have a clue about organic or allergy-sensitive cuisine, stubbornly challenged her by saying, "but it should all be about the pizza!" Sigh. I diffused the situation by enlightening him. The place seats about 20-22 at the most, so it's a better venue for small, intimate dinners than large groups. The faux orange color on the walls is awesome, and the art is subtle and tasteful. We had a booth and the pendant light overhead was too bright, but it's on a dimmer and our server gladly lowered it. Smooth jazz played softly on the house stereo - my favorite. It's a surprisingly quaint, stylish, sophisticated restaurant for a Tanque Verde-area retail strip mall. The outside of the center is probably the biggest negative to Renee's. Only New Belgium beers (the makers of Fat Tire from Colorado) are served here, but there are 7-8 varieties. I had an amber and my Dad had a lager. We ordered the Thai Curry pizza, which our server, Liz, told us was one of their best-sellers. It was great - curry chicken, red onions, tomatoes, zucchini (I think), and basil. Perfectly cooked. Next time, I'll try the BBQ chicken. I like a medium-thickness crust on my pizza. I don't like the saltine-cracker super-thin crusts, and I don't like filling up on the super-thick, bready crusts. Renee has found an excellent medium with her crusts. Liz, our server, was a delight - she was fun, fast, courteous, and had a great sense of humor. On the table a small sign explains their policy about unruly and noisy children (very reasonable, considering the small space). It essentially says, "we all love children, and let's cooperate in keeping them under control. That way, when you come here for your own date-night, we'll ensure the same experience for you." Classy. Our dinner was very nice, tasty, and intimate. The total tab? For 5 beers, a glass of merlot, a 12-inch pizza and a spinach salad - $44. All in all, this is a great little spot at Tanque Verde and Sabino Canyon. It's perfect for dates. The food is awesome, the prices are reasonable, and the ambiance is great. I LOVE RENEE'S. I am coming in on the defense! When I found this restaurant, it was a game changer. I order pick up whenever I'm in need of my comfort spaghetti & meat sauce. I'm a runner so the carbs are seriously heaven sent from Renée's!! I also want to mention that I try the pizzas with my sister and I explore the chicken entrees on date nights. I am a huge fan of their classy esthetic & charming, intimate environment. I recently read a review criticizing the "no children policy" & I completely disagree. I love kids, my work is k-12/pediatrics. I appreciate the sophisticated atmosphere, and I love that I can dine in by myself & be fancy in the old Pueblo. I would totally dine here with or without the kiddo rule, and if I wanted my nephew or (future) kids to enjoy the taste with me I can order the take out!! This is one of the places I miss most now that I moved out of Tucson. It's a small place but that's one of the things I love about it. The servers and hosts were always so friendly and the place always had a great ambiance. I would always get the pizza and add a variety of vegetables (vegetarian here). The crust here is fantastic and pretty much a perfect pan pizza. Also the sauce and cheese work perfectly together in the sense that the sauce isn't too overpowering. My partner would always get the meatball sub and have them mix the jalapeño creme sauce with the marinara and that sauce was heavenly! It comes loaded with meatballs and she would always take about half home and mix it with spaghetti the next day. Also the cake is fantastic! Get some! I love the emphasis on local and organic at this little place. There really needs to be more places like it. It's definitely a Tucson jem! read more

Yummy pizza is what we my friend Tracy and I were craving. So we thought we would head to Renee's to share one. Once there, we thought the salads looked so good that we would also add a large salad to our order. So many awesome pizza choices... we narrowed our selection down to four and then two (either the Pesto or the Yucatan...two totally different za's!) and then finally decided we would order the Yucatan. The Yucatan consists of black beans, jalapeno, black olives, cheddar and is topped with mixed greens, salsa fresca and avocado. It is not your typical pizza, thats for sure! Then we chose the avocado salad. I had tried this salad at a Yelp event months ago and enjoyed it. T trusted my judgement on this salad and thought it would go well with the Yucatan. The salad and pizza were lovely! Our server warned us that the Yucatan pizza was SPICY and that was not an understatement! The fresh jalapenos used are hot hot hot! I may ask for easy on the jalapenos on my next trip. My only disappointment was that they were out of the french fries, which I had been hoping to try because the garlic feta dressing with the fries sounds fabulous. We could have had tater tots instead but I took a pass and thought the fries will wait until my next visit. A few things I loved about Renee's- 1. Cozy, but a little too dark where we were sitting. The lamp on the table was charming, but not quite enough. Our server was wonderful. Wish I had made a note of her name. She was friendly, but not ooey-gooey, like some servers who act like your best friend. That made her excellent for us. I got the Tailored Tony on foccacia. The meat, marinara, and peppers was very tasty, but the foccacia was quite dark--like downright black in spots--around the edges and very difficult to cut--even with a sharp knife. Hubs got the Caprese and loved it. He also got the Calzone with susage, olives, and something else (mushrooms maybe?) and was happy with that, although he liked mine better, and was excited to get my leftovers the next day. The prickly pear lemonade was a perfect blend, not too sweet or too tart. The ginger molasses bundt cake was wonderful. Would have been better without the sauce, IMO. read more
