Last week was wonderful, considering that we've had so much cold weather lately. It started out with a mellow Easter Sunday, when my husband and I were able to spend time sunning ourselves on one of the large rocks on our property. One afternoon two days later, there was a knock on our door. I didn't reach it in time due to the fact that I didn't want to let the person at the door know I was wearing my husband's boxers, EEEK! Hey, they are comfortable, just NOT proper attire for answering the front (or any) door. There was a small pink box on the small table we keep next to our door. We keep it there for deliveries, etc. I hadn't ordered anything so I was stymied. Inside the box was a luscious little fruit pie and a card. It was a gift from our dentist Dr. Justin at Sala Family Dentistry! To tell you the truth, it came at the PERFECT time, because we have been having our share of woes lately, but this is not the time or place for that conversation. I know a lot of people are having difficult times. We all just power through, right? My husband was upstairs in bed, since he has been ill for some time, so I brought two forks with me and sat down next to him. We ate that utterly delicious pie in about a minute and would have licked the tin, but our dog was getting jealous, so he got that portion. After an uneventful week I will flash forward to the following Sunday. My two grandchildren and I were eating a snack of pitted olives while we watched a movie. I felt something hard in my mouth and thought that it was an olive pit that missed the machine that takes out the pits. NO SUCH LUCK! A part of one of my teeth had broken off! I was SO depressed when I looked at that piece of tooth and then in my mouth, that I cried. I take such good care of my teeth, but they are not obeying my efforts! I use every possible cleaning method and it just seems they are slowly wishing to depart! I was SO depressed! I was also worried that I would need a rood canal and an implant. GREAT! Tax season and an extra expense! I called Sala Family Dentistry the next day and they were able to get me in that day. Hooray...gulp. Dr. Justin listened to my tale of woe, looked ant my tooth and the piece that I had brought in with me (sniff...) and he said, "Let's see what we can save for you." Save? I thought that tooth was a goner for sure! After a bit of work he said, "Well, it looks like an old filling came out, so we might be able to put a crown on this tooth, since it is otherwise healthy and your root looks good as well." SAINTS be praised! In a little under an hour later I walked out of the office with a temporary crown and a smile on my formerly sad face. I wasn't in danger of losing my tooth and I will make darn sure that my temporary crown is well cared for. THANK YOU DR. JUSTIN! What started out as a horrible beginning to a new, supposedly Spring week, ended with tears of joy and a sunny day after all. I was even able to save a bit of money because they didn't need to do any build-up work. Sala Family Dentistry works with you and understands financial issues very well. That is an important issue and not only during tax time! If you EVER need dental help, whether it is an emergency or simply routine cleaning, orthodontics or general tooth care, I BEG you to look no farther than Sala Family Dentistry. I recently had a first visit (6/3/11) to see Dr. Jason Sala. I found the staff to be friendly and caring. Kudos to Melissa, Sylvia, Kristan, Amanda and Sarah for making my experience comfortable and for their personal attention as I felt pretty nervous. Dr. Jason Sala was professional and caring. He came up with a plan of action and explained every step of the way. I actually appreciated their marketing with their first patient gift and upon leaving I was given a rose. (Thank you Sylvia!) I'm someone who puts off going to the dentist due to outright fear. They all were aware of my need to be reassured and I couldn't have asked for a better team to help me overcome my anxiety. Thanks to all mentioned. You guys are the best! Today is 6/17/11 and I wanted to add another review but I'm adding to my original review instead. When I came on this site I read the other reviews carefully. I found the one star reviews disturbing and the mention of high costs something to look into for myself. I have spent quite a bit of time on the phone since my original review researching and questioning my network provider and speaking with Sarah, the billing coordinator at Dr. Sala's office. I investigated every aspect of the billing and am completely satisfied that the billing is done correctly in line with my particular insurance. Sarah spent time with me answering each and every question with patience and understanding. She never made me feel uncomfortable that I was questioning them over the pricing. She was professional and kind. The result of having researched and investigated concerns that came up from the one star reviews is that I am completely sold out for this dentist and his staff. I was informed from someone in the dental community that their office is known for doing "some interesting things". When I questioned that, she basically stated they are doing excellent quality professional service that perhaps many of the dentists in our area are not up to doing. I know, from having spoken to Melissa in their office, that both Dr. Jason and his brother Dr. Todd are FELLOWS in The Academy of General Dentistry. This is only achieved after hundreds of hours of training that is outside the normal training dentists take and usually a dentist is working on it through out their years of practice. Both brothers are fairly young and have already achieved that. I find that very impressive and reassuring that I'm going to get the best in state of the art treatment. I also discovered that Dr. Jason and Dr.Todd give back to the community in a generous manner and have worked with KOLO news to promote "Paying it Forward" to help people in the community that are in dire straights since losing their jobs, etc. It means a lot to me personally that the awareness is there for how tough it is for people to afford treatment and they are helping some people out. Also, let me add that Sarah made a comment that really resonated with me. She stated that the office is "emotionally invested" in the patients and the work they do.........you know, we are the same where I work and that means a lot to me. read more

I would love to give Sala Family Dentistry a good review, but I can't. At first I was impressed with the new facility, the bag of gifts, the friendly staff, the uniforms.... but then I started to get a "Body Snatchers" vibe, because everyone seemed almost robotic and overbearingly smiley (is there a rule that says they can't act normal there?) Dr. Sala told me I needed a $3K new crown, to replace a gold one that had allowed cavities to get underneath. I had no insurance, and the crown was on a far back, upper molar that had a 20+ year history of cavities, root canals and crowns. I wanted to pull out the tooth instead, since the old crown was allowing cavities to erode the tooth in places I couldn't brush anyways. Dr. Sala chastised me, saying "No one in this office would recommend pulling a perfectly good tooth like this." I walked out in tears, knowing that if I put yet another crown on this tooth, it would only last about 10 years, and I would have to go through the expense possibly 3 more times (I'm 55 and plan to live to 100!) I asked another dentist (my friends highly recommended), to give me a second opinion. I made an appt., had my films sent over from Dr. Sala's, and this new dentist took one look at the films and said, "We need to pull this tooth, it's a goner." He could tell just by looking at the x-rays that the cavities had gone in too far, and it wasn't worth trying to save the tooth,since I'd already had the root removed too. "Plus, if you decide you don't like the hole in the back of your mouth after a few months, I can always put in an implant for a lot less than that crown would have cost you." Hmmmn... why didn't Dr. Sala come up with that option for this single, uninsured mom? Dr. Sala is young, while my new dentist is older and seems to have tons more experience. I have happily traded all the glitz, gifts and fake smiles at Sala for a seasoned, practical, affordable dentist now, and he's going to be mine until he retires or I die, whichever comes first! read more

I literally dont have words... But I will try anyhow. I am EXTREMELY phobic of dentists. I don't know why, it most certainly is an irrational fear. Today we went to "Dentistry from the Heart". This is an event hosted this year and the last 3 years running by Sala Family Dentistry. Free dental care (cleaning, filling, or an extraction) on a first come first served basis. We did have to wait in the cold (it did try to snow off and on, and at one point was even hailing pretty good) for 5 hours as many, many people had come before us, there was free donuts, as well as coffee, hot chocolate, PANCAKES and syrup and bottled water provided for breakfast (and handwarmers). At lunchtime we were provided with bottled water, pizza and deli sandwiches. Once we made it inside, my wife got a free cleaning, which she felt really good about. I had not 1, not 2, but 6 extractions done! Again I must remind you of my EXTREME phobia. The staff there was friendly, courteous, supportive, caring and above all SKILLED! While I was a nervous wreck and even uncontrollably shaking at times, there were 1 or 2 people coaching and encouraging me, while the oral surgeon and hygenist worked on me for slightly less than 15 minutes (once the novacaine had kicked in of course). From crying and shaking uncontrollably, to sobbing gratefully on our way out the door. I just could not possibly say enough good things about these excellent people and what they have done for me and my family today! I am extremely grateful that this care was given to me and my wife for no cost, however I could not possibly put a price tag on my experience today at Sala Family Dentistry!! read more

I can't say enough amazing things about Sala Dental. They are absolutely incredible. Their attention to detail and genuine care for their patients is truly unmatched. Every time I come in, they remember the little things I've mentioned, whether it's a trip I took or that I was graduating in the spring, and it makes every visit feel so personal. They offer so many comfort options for anxious patients, from cozy weighted blankets to thoughtful touches that help you feel completely at ease. I recently had an implant done with their team, and from start to finish, they listened to exactly what I wanted. I was on a short timeline since I was graduating and really wanted my smile to be perfect for my photos, and they made it happen. Not only did they finish everything in time, but they also exceeded every expectation I had. Dr. Christina and Dr. Tammy were absolutely amazing. They were so kind, so detail-oriented, and they made me feel truly beautiful with my new smile. The lab team was incredible too. They gave me two different options for my implant and even adjusted the color on the spot until it looked exactly how I envisioned. My hygienist, Amy, and Dr. Amam were also so thoughtful, making sure I was comfortable throughout my visit. They even remembered I had just gone to Maui for my graduation trip. I truly can't recommend Sala Dental enough. They are an outstanding team of caring, talented, and genuine people who go above and beyond for their patients. I have had a wonderful experience with your practice recently and want to congratulate you for building a world class operation. I first heard about you by reading about your involvement in our community over the years. Having to find a new dentist and not having insurance, I began a few years ago to seek out good deals for teeth cleaning and found your offer on Living Social. I called for my first appointment last Thursday and got an appointment immediately for Monday. I received a reminder call on Sunday! I arrived on time, filled out the paperwork, and was admitted right on time. The receptionists were all very professional, friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and attentive. I noticed this high service level with all of the other customers. Lisa, my hygienist gave me a quick tour of your impressive state of the art facility and then gave me the most thorough exam, cleaning and consultation that I have ever received in my life. All answers to my question were complete and well thought out. I would give her all of the accolades that I did for the receptionists above. Dr. Josh was wonderful and the best thing I can say is that I look forward to him and all of your practice to being my new dental provider. I've had several dentists over the years... the in-and-out assembly line guy where you aren't even numb yet and he's drilling... the one that did nice work, but always seemed to find something wrong maxing out my insurance every year... and one that didn't want to give you a shot since it was only a "small" cavity (it sure didn't feel small when they started to drill!) Thankfully the staff at Sala Family Dentistry are miles above anything I've experienced in the past. Once I started going there, all of the "problems" that my previous max-out-the-insurance dentist was concerned about vanished. Finally, someone who performs procedures only when they are actually required. And when they do procedures you don't feel like you're being rushed through the assembly line. They take their time, do it right, and it's virtually pain-free. The hygienists, assistants, and dentists are top notch with patient comfort in mind. My wife and I have been patients for nine years. We feel so strongly about the Sala team that even though we moved to Las Vegas eight years ago, we still travel to Reno whenever we need dental care. Yep, for the past eight years we've been making the trip at least twice a year, more often if one of us has a problem that needs attention. And I don't mean that we schedule it along with visiting family or to do business. I never thought I would ever be gushing over a dental office but this is seriously the dentist's office OF MY DREAMS. Beginning with the phone call in to book my first appointment I had never been there before but was in so much pain from an infected tooth. I called at 1:30pm and they got me in same day at 5pm. The woman on the phone (Brianna I think her name was) was sooo sweet and compassionate. I got there and checked in the office is nice and big, very clean, nice relaxing music and tons of magazines and games for kids even a video game they can play while waiting. They have bottled water and juices in a mini-fridge in the waiting rooms. When I got called back (the dental assistant I think Joel?) came to meet me shaking my hand and brought me back asked some questions made me feel really so comfortable and taken care of. The Dr. named Dr. Ryan was the same way so informative and caring and makes you truly feel your best interests are not only at heart but the number ONE priority. Literally EVERYONE I came into contact with was just above and beyond kind, caring, comforting, and compassionate in every possible way. This is seriously the best dentist office I have ever been to. I recommend them to any and everyone. Never been so amazingly impressed at immediately put at ease at a dentist before. So glad I found this place! read more

Full disclosure, I am not a huge fan of going to the dentist, and the way I've dealt with that anxiety for the past 6 years was to just not go! Well, I finally went in about 6 months ago for a cleaning and check up, and I was sad but not surprised to find out I had a lot of work that needed to be done- a crown and LOTS of fillings. So to make it easier, Dr. Josh broke all of it up for me into four appointments. I'm not going to go crazy and say I had a blast at each appointment, but honestly, they were much better than they could have been. I wish I remembered every person who helped me over the past few months, but I did not have one bad experience with any of them- the front staff were always so nice and made me feel okay about my numb and crooked face. The assistants, especially Gabby, went out of their way to get to know me, and I in turn enjoyed getting to know them. Dr. Josh has been amazing! I think he knew how much I didn't want to be there, but he still made it as easy as possible by making fun conversation and letting me take multiple breaks. Plus, he's pretty fast!! That's a bonus for me. I hardly ever write reviews, but I wanted to recommend this practice to anyone who has anxiety about going to the dentist. I picked it because of all of the great reviews, so I wanted to back those reviews up with mine. read more

went here after they said they could help me with my teeth. Jason Sala came in to talk to me. He informed me I was in there in 2014 and didn't get work done, so what is my plan now. I told him I wanted to go to Costa Rica because I need implants and it would be half the price. He said in a very snooty voice, "I could send your x rays to Costa Rica then." I told him that I can't get there because of COVID and I don't know when they will open the borders again. I asked if we could get a plan going and get done certain things first so I can start getting them fixed cause I'm in so much pain. He does a sly laugh, "you're a server", he says. I shook my head in response that yes in fact I was. He then comments, "let me guess, you're coming in here like "I have 400 dollars but I want 100,000 dollars worth of work done, can you help me"?" In a voice that must have been mimicking mine. Followed with "I'm not a banker." I informed him I would try again to get care credit and that it seemed like he didn't even want to help me. He said he would, and I quote, "blow my budget out of the park." I left crying, in pain, with no help from SALA FAMILY DENSITY. I'm sorry my $400 a month couldn't send you on vacation right away, fact is, if you WANTED to help, you could. 0 stars, would not recommend on my worst enemy. read more

I don't care WHAT the other folks say. Jason and the team at Sala Dentistry are THE BEST! I first went to Sala over a year ago, when I had waited too long to deal with a broken tooth and it needed to be pulled. It was a complicated three-root extraction, and he urged me to see a specialist. I thought that was so great and honest. Any other doctor might have "winged" it at my personal pain and expense. A few months later, I found myself, by choice, back in Jason's chair for side by side crowns, a few fillings, and a couple other procedures. Let me tell you... I have seen more than a few dentists chairs in my life. I have lived here and there and everywhere for the last twenty years, so I have been forced to find a new dentist every time I move. I have never felt so secure in the competence and professionalism of a dental team IN MY LIFE! From the assistants, anesthesiologists, office staff, to the dentists himself, I feel completely at ease with their decisions and practices. To top it all off, yes... they do great things for their community via donations, involvement in civic activities and even a "free day of dentistry" once a year to help those in need. If I ever move halfway across the country again, I'll make sure I have enough money to fly back when I need to, just to go to this dentist. read more

No one likes to have dental work done; however, I like my teeth, so going to the dentist is important. Sala Family Dentistry has a great staff. They are friendly, courteous, and attentive. We take our family there. We recommend it to our friends. We won't go any where else. We chose our dental insurance to make sure they were preferred providers: we like them that much. Now of course, you should always be a wise consumer and make sure you have dental insurance that covers going to the dentist -- this is easily done by asking them if they accept your plan and calling your insurance company to verify your benefits (I would like to think you all know this, but based upon some reviews I've seen where people would like to blame the business for their own personal lack of knowledge about the plan they have, I figured I should bring it up). If you don't, I'm told they offer payment plans. They also give a free day of dental work to the community every year (Dentistry from the Heart), so if you can't afford to go the dentist, you have an opportunity to still get premium help at no charge. How can a business that gives that much to the community, not be the place you want to go. If you are looking for a great office and great staff, they are a cut above. read more

I have had two cleanings, xrays and fillings done by D. Josh. Every experience I've had has been quick and virtually painless. Before you even arrive, you have the opportunity to fill out a lot of your paperwork via online revenues. In these forms and some that you fill out at your initial intake, you're asked about your previous experiences and preferences for your dental visits. The clinic is nicely organized and you receive a tour and goodie bag upon your first arrival. Once sat in the chair, I was asked if I preferred my dentist to chat with me a lot or just a little, and what would make me more comfortable. I really believe they're putting a new spin on dental experiences all around and would recommend them to anyone looking for a place in Reno. Any dental work recommended comes with quotes after inputting your insurance so that you know before going in. If having work aside from a cleaning done, they have warming and massaging chairs which is definitely another bonus. Again, I highly recommend this clinic, every experience has been a great one so far. read more

I recently had a crown come off--which broke off the tooth at the gum line. Sala Family Dentistry was able to get me right in and start a treatment plan. I went on 1/12/17 to get the tooth extracted which turned out to be a 2-1/2 hour project. Dr. Justin Patay was fabulous, always caring about my comfort level. I've had several dental emergencies so I've seen Dr. Jason Sala, Dr. Todd Sala and Dr. Josh Woolley. They are all also great to work with. I have seen a couple of the doctors, but I would definately prefer any one of the 4 listed above. I love seeing the birds feeding outside the window, very soothing and helps distract me from the task at hand. I even posted to instagram and hashtagged #salafamilydentistry. I am not a fan of dentists in general but this office is kind, soothing and accomodating to your schedule. I also like their financial person who assists and understands. I also have Joel as my dental hygenist and he is great! Very kind. Can't say enough about the staff in this office. Thank you Dr. Justin! See you Thursday again :) read more

I went to Sala recently for the first time because of a recommendation from a trusted friend. I wish I had gone under better circumstances, but I had a major cavity and I needed help. I was certain I was in store for plenty of pain. But, no. I had no pain. I was shocked. It always hurts when I have a dentist work on my teeth. Always. But not this time, despite all of the work they needed to do (drilling, etc). I was so pleased and relieved. The entire building is filled with very friendly professionals. Seriously - some of the nicest people. I've been back 3 times now and every time it's exactly the same. So happy and so friendly. It really takes away the nervousness I had from being at the dentist. Dr. Jason Sala worked with me. I found him to be really down to earth and very intelligent. He walked me through every step of the procedure ahead of time and all the way through. I really appreciated that. I've always dreaded going to the dentist. I think my mind has been changed. I never had a pleasant dentist's visit before Sala. read more

I do not know how these guys do not have 5 stars. I have had SO many different dentists/offices in my life, and Sala is exponentially the best I have ever been too. Knowledgeable, genuine, and efficient. Dr. Beth (my dentist) is the coolest. She is always so kind and checks on you frequently, and I personally think she is hilarious. Amenities are great (Keurig, ear buds, massage/heated chairs, hot towel) if that kind of thing is important to you. And the pediatric portion of the office is just as caring and knowledgeable (and again, GREAT amenities for the kiddos). Finally, this office gives back to the community ALL the time - our family definitely appreciates Sala! Quick note: for those negative reviews regarding insurance being out of network and big bills; unfortunately it IS ultimately the responsibility of the member to know if insurance is in/out of network. But I really hope Sala is making an effort to advise their new patients, because insurance is a foreign language for most. read more
