Our son had the Stir Fried Basil dish with veggies and chicken. I ordered the Drunken Noodles with vegetables and tofu. Both dishes were $13.50 and they offer a side salad or miso soup. We both choose the miso soup. The food was delicious as always. The main course was a nice size. However, my wife mentioned that in the past the Tom Kha Gai soup was served in a larger bowl. My son and I ordered Chai Thai Tea, my son with half and half and I had it with Coconut Milk at $4 with refills. The server Christina was outstanding! We were glad we went there.

Flame Thai is a pretty big restaurant when you walk in. They have plenty of seating for their customers which is nice. The decor is very sparse and two out of the 3 tv screens up at the front were not working. They allowed us to pick where we wanted to sit and we chose one of the booths. Right away I noticed part of the crown molding on the wall was missing. The overall visual appeal of the restaurant could use some tlc or a whole new revamp. For the positives: our waiter was friendly and attentive. He came to check up on us a couple times throughout our meal which was nice. Their Thai tea came in pretty big glasses and tasted good! Tasted like the bottled Thai tea I used to get from the market. I did like their crab Rangoon for appetizer, it was fried perfectly and the sauce for dipping was tasty! I also ordered the red curry and requested extra curry sauce. The portion was huge and enough for two people. They also got the spice level perfectly. The negatives were the beef bowl my husband ordered. He said it was very bland and had virtually no flavor. It also looked more like a salad bowl with how much lettuce they filled it with. The biggest disappointment was their pad Thai. That is one of my favorite Thai dishes and they managed to mess it up. For some reason it tasted more like sweet and sour noodles rather than pad Thai. I did not taste any fish sauce at all in the dish. It make me think of orange chicken sauce mixed with rice noodles. Not very tasty at all and I was left disappointed. Pad Thai is one of the most common dishes you find at Thai restaurants so I'm not sure how they managed to screw it up so badly. Lastly, the price of everything was over $80. Which both my husband and I did not think was worth the quality of food we got. Very expensive for subpar dishes. Not even the crab Rangoon or red curry could make it worth the price. We most likely would not return but I'm glad the whole meal wasn't a busy. They had a couple decent dishes but the ones they messed up just couldn't justify the price paid.

The chicken pad thai was $10.50 with tax, CASH only. I must say my expectations were low but this plate blew me away. The past few pad thai dishes I've had were made at home and the sauce from a bottle since I really didn't want to do the whole rigamarole of soaking tamarinds to make it as authentic as possible. The bottled sauces are wayyy too sugary and so the dish leans sweet. This plate is not sweet, but the flavors of this dish are centered around a sweet-savory fusion. Salty, nutty, slightly sweet tamarind sauce, the thin rice noodles soaked up the sauce and mixed with cubed chicken, green onions, egg, bean sprouts, and roasted ground peanuts and served with a lime wedge. It's definitely not as funky or fermented as the ones I had in Thailand, but it can stand on it's own where I worked in L.A.'s Thai town. Although I considered keeping the extra order, I found it unusual since no other waiter had ever misunderstood me before. He had even placed two vinegar containers with each order, which he promised he would charge extra, even though I had clarified that we were splitting the dish, which should have required only one order of two spring rolls. When I finally called him back, I began politely: "There must have been a misunderstanding. I only ordered two spring rolls, not two orders." His response was, in a rude tone, "Fine, I'll take it back." He then raised his voice and scolded me in front of others. As a senior, I felt intimidated and embarrassed. My friend stepped in to ask him to stop, as his manner was unnecessarily harsh given that he had already agreed to take the dish back. Had he explained calmly that the mistake would cost him personally, I would have accepted the extra order out of consideration. Instead, he chose to escalate the situation by threatening to remove both plates--and then did so. My friend followed him to clarify matters with another waiter, who kindly offered to return the correct order to us. However, the original waiter brusquely snatched it from my friend's hands. We asked several times to speak with the manager or owner, but we were told the manager was also the cook and "too busy" to come out and hear our concern. The rudeness and intimidation I experienced during this visit were unacceptable, and I hope steps will be taken to ensure other customers are treated with courtesy and respect.

The Appetizer Sampler: the vegetarian spring roll was decent with a nice fry on the outside and packed with veggies on the inside. Not much flavor by itself, but there are multiple sauces you can try with and the texture was good. The chicken wings were very salty on the outside and dry on the inside. The fried wontons with pork filling.... Well, the sampler doesn't specifically say so it could be just fried empty wontons since that's what we think we got. One of the pieces had a tiny piece of protein but the others were empty. It was also fried to death Ambience: n/a - ordered food to go. The front door has an obnoxious buzz that goes off ever time it opens. While the decorations are themed, the restaurant does feel messy as there are things everywhere. The restaurant does seem older as there are water stains on the ceiling tile and very harsh white light. A TV was in the corner with a sports game on but no music Service: 5/5 - she was super nice and friendly and gave us multiple recommendations on what to get. We recently stopped there on the way back from White Sands with our son and his family including a three year old. Setting is quiet and was full with the owner and some other diners moving tables around so we could sit. Everyone was most solicitous, and this continued throughout the meal. We had a variety of dishes e.g, pad thai, noodles and toppings and some soups. This is authentic Thai, near the level of a long-time ago home in WDC. Let me start by saying that I love Korean food - hotpot/BBQ especially - and have eaten it all…read moreover (including in Korea) for 40+ years. More than that, I enjoy not only the food itself, but the whole package that characterizes it: consistency, convenience, and unobtrusive, lightning-fast service (e.g. rice and _banchan_ being slid onto the table while you're still getting your butt in the chair is uniquely Korean; I've always found it charming.) Having said that: this place disappoints on every single metric. That makes me sad, because I *wanted* a good KBBQ place in Las Cruces... and this was so bad that I wouldn't go back if they paid me. Seriously. More than anything else, it brought to mind the image of some clueless teenager who had no service experience, bought a food joint with his parents' money, and was trying to figure it out with you as the first ever customer. Issues, just off the top of my head: 1) Hotpot/KBBQ menus are fairly standardized: two columns, price at the top of each, combo price if you want both. This mess of a menu was so confusing that I, with all my experience, got lost in it. 2) The hotpot "thing" is pretty much universal: choose the base, then go choose and mix exactly what you want from a set of frozen trays full of delightful goodies and start dunking - and go back for more when you're ready. Surprise! Here, you don't get a choice: it's ONE tray of pre-chosen stuff that *they* decided on for you plus a choice of one more meat. An Army mess hall gives you more options. I blew it off. 3) Ditto the BBQ thing: usually, you sit down, they immediately crank up the cooker and pour your tea, you go get your stuff, and start frying (because it's glowing hot by then.) NOPE! I got seated, the lady decoded the menu weirdness for me took my drink order, then walked off. Some minutes later, she came back to take my food order. Some minutes after that, a young guy came back, out the meat on the table (without any plates to eat it from, any chopsticks/forks/spoons, or any napkins on the table; when I asked, they brought one tiny plate - so I had to ask again) - and only then cranked up the heat. Call it 15 minutes wasted when it could have ALL been done in two. 4) I asked about _banchan_ (various pickled veggies Korean places usually serve along with a bowl of rice while you wait for your food), and was told "oh, we only have kimchi!" and asked if I wanted rice. When it came, both the rice and the kimchi portions were *microscopic*: maybe a tablespoon of kimchi between the two sauce-and-spice dishes and maybe a quarter cup of rice (for which I later found out there was an extra charge.) 5) I was told, proudly, that they have a FREE dessert bar. This turned out to be some sliced oranges and two types of melon - two large trays with maybe 10 tiny pieces of melon on each one. Oh, and some plastic ice cream cups. 6) The pork belly was more or less OK, but the short ribs were unbelievably greasy. For Koreans, who are better at prepping meat than damn near anyone else, that's just... awful. The whole thing plus a 15% tip - the young man *did* try to be helpful with the cookery (even though I didn't need it), but it came out as hovering and obsequious - came to ~$55. KBBQ isn't the cheapest thing in the world, and I'm usually fine with that, but being nickel-and-dimed for the iced tea and the rice on top of the usual was a little... tasteless. The whole experience left me sad, especially for people who decide to try KBBQ/hotpot for the first time and get... _this,_ the literal opposite of what it's supposed to be. This doesn't sound nice, but: I hope that they do a complete 180 turnaround - OR go out of business. I said what I said.
