I usually come out to play tennis at the courts or check out the markets they host, usually on Thursday evenings or Saturday mornings. They also have fun community events like the community parking lot sale, where locals can sign up to have a yard sale at the park. My son loves the playgrounds (there are several for different age groups), and on weekends, it's always nice to stop by when there are baseball or softball games going on. The snack shack is usually open during games so its an easy and affordable stop for snacks, burgers and hot dogs. The park is always clean, well-kept, and full of life. It's great to see so many people using it for different things. I wish that they'd add some outdoor pickleball courts, but the community center nearby offers plenty of indoor options like pickleball, racquetball, volleyball, and basketball. The one thing that I have seen a lot of lately is kids/teens racing around on electric bikes/Surron-style bikes. The hills throughout the park are fun to ride, but just make sure to keep your eyes peeled, especially with letting your small kids roam around, to avoid potential accidents. I came with my Mom as she came to register for the Beaumont run. The young lady at the counter was amazing, super friendly and professional. Unfortunately, her male coworker had some serious stank face. The dude acted like he owned Beaumont and looked us up and down. I hate when people have low self esteem and take it out on others. Albert Chatigny is free to visit and has plenty of parking. However, I saw many cars waiting in the wings as community events are very popular. It's nice to see community members value their local hubs.

We have come for events like building your own stuffed animal, and our little loved it! We also come here for the volleyball league, and way back when we came for toddler soccer. With the exception of an employee who no longer runs the volleyball program, everyone who we have encountered has been very helpful and friendly. There are always fun events going on as well as blood drives. They have all kinds of flyers on the desk for all kinds of events going on, definitely something for everyone!

Be aware that there are rules around bathing suits! Men wearing swim trunks have to be double lined, with a mesh liner. No board shorts. I think there may be other rules around T-shirts as well, so make sure to call ahead if you have specific questions around dress code. Although the park is technically just across the street there's no crosswalk within a mile in either direction. It honestly feels like the City of Redlands isn't fully aware they have train service. The park itself is quite lovely and spacious, featuring a large rose garden, a children's play area, a gazebo (which requires a permit to use), several picnic spots, a horseshoe pit, and a skatepark. One picnic area has a functioning sink, but the others lack water access. While the landscaping is attractive, overall maintenance leaves much to be desired. There are remnants of old tennis courts in disrepair, and although the restrooms were clean and open, they're very outdated and likely don't meet current codes (cities don't have to comply with their own codes). Sidewalks are scarce, making this park difficult to navigate for anyone with mobility challenges. If you're planning a small gathering, keep your group under 25 people to avoid needing a permit. Seating is limited, so arriving early is a must. Also, be prepared to pack up and leave quickly if law enforcement hassles you. Parking is limited for a park of this size, which is why taking the train would be ideal--if it weren't for the unsafe street crossing, especially concerning if you have small children. Sylvan Park is technically a "resident park," not a "public park." This means its primary use is intended for Redlands residents, and non-resident use may be restricted or require additional permissions. For larger group events needing permits, you'll likely need liability insurance and guidance from a Redlands-based attorney is strongly advised.
