This review is specifically for Lana - she is a skin goddess and her energy is exceptionally wonderful and calming. My mom and I have both had two bio-lift facials with her, and they are worth every penny. Skin is clear, glowing and TIGHT post facial and for the next few days. Think Botox adversary in terms of the tightness and youthfulness you feel immediately upon walking out. Lana talked me through each step of what she was doing (though I was so relaxed I drifted off for part of the experience), and took the time for much needed extractions. My favorite part is the ninja-like, facial percussion that whips some life/circulation back into the face and neck (we've dubbed it the cheek beat -this move is truly divine). In the past I've felt that high end places like Rescue can feel a little pretentious, but Lana's wit and entire vibe make you feel so welcome and not at all pressured to purchase products. I left with a small bag of samples and recommendations for a future routine. With the trust established and a chance to experience the products outside of the service, I'm ready to buy the cleanser and lotion when I return. Everyone I've interacted with at Rescue is lovely, but Lana is amazing and why we immediately booked another round of services for an upcoming wedding. Can't wait to go back next month! Was in dire need of a facial but also new to the area so after doing an extensive amount of research on nearby spas, rescue spa had my attention. The online booking process was very fast and efficient. I booked on Saturday afternoon and was able to get an appointment the next day. The receptionist followed up with a call to let me know my appointment had been accepted and she informed me about the address/building as well as their cash only tip policy which was great. Parking isn't great but there are definitely nearby lots to use. Soon as you walk in you're greeted by a few receptionist then offered a drink and brought over to a waiting area until your esthetician grabs you. I decided to get a classic facial with Viviane Aires. She asked a few questions and took the time analyzing my skin before just getting straight into it which was greatly appreciated! She also explained the products to me as she used them Incase I wanted to purchase them afterwards. I walked in with dehydrated skin and walked out with dewy glowing skin. Visited Rescue Spa this last Sunday. It was a gift my husband. I was very hesitant to go but so glad I did! Geo took care of booking. I had an appointment for a facial and medi/pedi. I got a lost finding the location. Geo came down and directed me. First impression, it's luxurious inside, feels really relaxing and I wasn't so anxious anymore but excited! Facial was by Sylvia. She was really thorough explaining what she was going to do and what it would feel like. I dozed off a few times. My skin was sooo glowy and fresh feeling afterwards. I was so amazed with my nose! What an incredible experience from beginning to end. This review is for the rescue facial, blowout and eyebrow threading. I was running a little late to the appointment and they were so kind and accommodating the entire time. They'll check you in and you can give them your coat, and they will walk you to the waiting area for the facial. It wasn't a long wait at all. I got the Rescue Facial with Gigi, and it was such a relaxing experience. My face is very sensitive and I've had really bad reactions from products in the past. Gigi was very informative and listened to all my concerns and what I wanted from this facial, and catered to me specifically. She asked if I had any allergies and what my skin care regimen is currently, and what products could help. She was so friendly and I really appreciate how she took the time to explain everything she was doing. She would tell you how each product would feel on your skin. This facial also included the LED technology, which truly is a game changer. My face felt so clean and beautiful afterwards. Seriously no joke the glow is real you guys!!! The check in desk was so sweet to be able to fit me in for a blowout and eyebrow threading as well. Mohamad has the most magical hands. I've always gotten blowouts but let me tell you, my hair is so shiny and sleek afterwards. It's been two days afterwards and it's still looks pretty fresh. This is insane to me, because usually my hair falls flat after 5 hours. He carefully took the time to wash my hair and scalp massage was so relaxing I almost fell asleep. The blowout took less than 30 mins and I have a lot of thick hair. Mohamad knows exactly what he's doing, and he makes sure every strand is perfect. Not only that, he's such a kind soul and he was so much fun to talk to. You can tell right away how much he loves doing this, and it shows after he runs his magical hands through your hair. I got a facial at rescue about a year ago and can't speak on behalf of other services. I have Rosacea, and have extremely sensitive and reactive skin. I mean... extremely. So the facial itself was really nice! I had a great experience with my esthetician, other than some expressed political beliefs on my estheticians end, which BTW-maybe should be kept to yourself during services? Anyway, I explained to my esthetician that my skin is HIGHLY reactive, and I felt like she did a good job in catering to my needs for the most part. However, when it came time to use the P50 toner- I could tell my skin did NOT like that. Burning, stinging, what was explained to me as the usual reaction to P50. I trepidatiously let her continue. At the end of the facial, my face felt pretty good, and I did have a little redness but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I ended up buying the P50 and Lait U combo that my esthetician recommended. Over the next couple days, my skin broke out in a horrifying mess of dermatitis/rosacea combo. I think it was probably the intensity of the P50 that I'm sensitive to. My esthetician recommended P50, which she said was good for sensitive skin- it turns out P50 is just the regular toner, and P50V is the one for sensitive skin. Kindof confusing but basically, she recommended the wrong P50 for me. After some back and forth with Rescue with pictures of my skin, they let me exchange the P50 for Vernix (I had to pay the difference) AND had me come in for a complimentary light therapy session to help ease the break out and redness. The light therapy didn't really seem to do much, but it was relaxing. The vernix helped ease the redness somewhat. The break out isn't Rescue's fault, it's my darn sensitive skin! But their estheticians need to be more careful of what products they're recommending to people who have Rosacea or reactive skin, especially since Biologique Recherche has very active ingredients!! This break out / rash / redness lasted about 4 months before it started healing :(. I would consider coming back to Rescue one day, but definitely not for a facial. read more

A perfect oasis in the heart of Philadelphia. I came here as a treat during my final weeks of pregnancy for a prenatal massage. Making appointments online using the MindBody app was a breeze, and I was able to even change my appointment over the weekend when I realized my schedule had changed last minute. Text confirmations and voicemails were set up to confirm my reservation - that always makes me feel better about visiting a new place. My massage therapist was Venus Jones, she was super friendly and professional. She greeted me with some very preliminary small talk and questions about how I was feeling, but did most of the massage in silence (THANKFULLY!) - I've had other massage therapists who want to chat during that time; no thank you! Unfortunately, while I was waiting for my massage in the waiting area - the fire alarms in the building had been tripped during some routine elevator maintenance. The receptionists were prompt to respond to all the guests who were uncomfortably wondering if we had to go down the stairs and outside in our white robes (and nothing else!). We were assured the alarms were a false alarm, and they were working on getting them turned off as soon as possible. Unfortunately, that meant the first 4 or 5 minutes of my massage were spent listening to a fun combination of fire alarm bells and plinky-planky relaxation music. My massage therapist couldn't have been more apologetic, but obviously she had no control over the situation. If I'm being honest, I'll listen to a jackhammering outside my window if I have to, if it's accompanied by a massage. The spa is not for the feint hearted - it's on the pricier side, but you're getting top notch service and amenities. Walking into the spa, you're immediately greeted, shown around, and offered refreshments. The locker room is small but beautiful. Private lockers for each guest, fresh robes and sandals are provided as well. There are steam showers available for use, as well as an infrared sauna - the sauna looked AMAZING and would be right up my avenue, but unfortunately it's a definite no-no during pregnancy so I had to skip out on that one. There were plenty of products to peruse while waiting, from soaps to essential oils, and diffusers, plus massagers, and jade rollers (this is a thing, I think?). It was fun to browse while I waited to be pampered! Looks like there are hair and nail services as well, on the other side of the reception area. I didn't check it out, but I'm sure it's lovely. *Full disclosure, my massage was a gift - I had a gift certificate to the spa to use, and there was a bit of extra money left after paying for the massage. The receptionist told me I could put the extra money towards gratuity for my masseuse - that's awesome! I would definitely recommend Rescue Spa for anyone looking for a damn good massage - but know that it's not going to come cheap. If I had a choice, I'd rather go to a day spa/full service spa and spend the day lounging at a pool, or in a hammam - services typically included with massages of this caliber. PSA-If you go to Rescue Spa for the first time, be aware that the entrance is actually on 16th St.- NOT Walnut. PSA #2-to any person who identifies as male and is reading this, I was not the only man there getting a pedicure so don't be shy about letting someone take care of your digits. This felt like a non-judgemental place for self care. Mi Cumbia used to be my go to for pedicures until the prices went way up, the bathroom was consistently off limits, they had a big staff turnover and I could no longer abide being a captive audience to their hokey music. I decided to try Rescue Spa after quitting Mi Cumbia. I am very glad I did. First, no one hugged me. I was cordially greeted upon arrival and even though I was a tad late for my appointment (thanks a lot Friday traffic), no one made me feel bad for it and I was at a pedi station within a few minutes of walking in. Several people offered a beverage while I was there. Gina was my manicurist. She was pleasant and professional without being overly familiar or chatty. I don't know about you, but I get pedis to relax and recharge and honestly? Having to chit chat with a relative stranger is not at all restful for me. Unless the manicurist is a rabid extrovert, it's probably a pita for them to be yapping about nothing all day, too. That said, Gina was not in the least stand offish or pretending I did not exist from the ankles up. Part of the pedicure is having the legs and feet treated with the famous BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE LOTION P50. I use this on my hands and face but have never tried it on legs and feet. Let me say for the record-my feet and nails have never felt as clean and fresh as they did after an application of this marvelous stuff. There is a scrub used on the legs and feet that has an uplifting citrus scent. I did not ask what it was, just basked in the delight. Throughout the service, Gina was gentle and thorough, making this a marvelous session of pampering. The spa doesn't have those absurd nail fan dryers here. Your feet are put into open flip flop type disposable slippers and you sit, relax and finish drying after the pedicure. There are comfortable chairs and a very nice couch for lounging and drying. Nothing was rushed or frantic after my polish was applied. I settled in for about 20 minutes with my book as my polish set. Again I was offered a beverage as I rested. The spa plays relaxing, non-ethnic music and while it is continuously busy, it is very spacious and there is no sense of street or client noise, no loud conversations, and no frantic rushing or being hurried out after your service. Rescue Spa carries a large selection of polishes, Zoya brand for one, but I brought my own 5 free brand. Gina was fine with that. I was meeting a friend for drinks and an early dinner after the pedicure. When I left, it was with a sense of feeling totally relaxed and that all was right with the world. While you are there, pick up a bottle of that miracle P50. You will have no regrets over the purchase! read more

I rarely leave poor reviews because I know the impact a review like this could have on a business. However, I feel a responsibility to share my experience after two+ months of suffering from dermatitis from a facial I received at the rescue spa by Sylvia Sy. I had noted that I was allergic to salicylic acid on my client form and told Sylvia repeatedly that I was allergic to this ingredient. She kept dismissing me, saying "i should be fine," and pushed the products she used deep into my skin. Immediately after the facial, I suffered from a dermatitis reaction all over my face and neck. Two months, various steroid creams, and now a round of oral steroids, have they started to go away. What was perhaps more shocking than Sylvia's lack of attention and irresponsibility is the spa management's reaction to my follow up and photos. They claim that this must be something going on "internally." Only after I threatened legal action did they start taking my reaction seriously. Stay away. I like it here. I booked a signature package (60 min Swedish massage & 60 min facial) for my birthday and had a nice experience. Having not had a facial in 1.5 years, I was desperately in need! Taralyn did an awesome job and left me looking radiant. I also appreciated her personalized list of product suggestions. While the products they use are expensive (Biologique Recherche brand), my face loves them! My skin has been SO hard to please this last year, so that's saying a lot. My massage was pretty good also, although I could've used a bit more pressure. I'd probably get massages from other places and strictly facials from here. I wasn't sure what to expect from the atmosphere given that it's on a floor of a downtown office building and not a standalone, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was definitely serene and luxurious. I enjoyed lemon water, hot tea and cookies while there. One thing that did strike me as a little odd is that, depending on your services, you may at one point be sitting in the "lounge" area, in your robe. From the lounge there is a direct vision line to the reception area where people are coming directly in from the elevators, so it feels a little open. I wish there was a frosted glass door there to create some barrier. That being said, make sure your robe fits lol.(they do have a bigger sized one available should you need it, like I did). I never found out if they had larger sandals, but if you have larger feet, you may want to ask. The ones they provide by default are about a size 8 & my much bigger feet looked crazy in them. However, I arrived a few minutes late for my appointment,so I didn't have time to keep asking for things from the hostess. Rescue Spa is definitely worth a visit. I did the chat with some questions and got answers right away - love it! Many other spa sites I looked at didn't have the price, or would say what a facial prices "start at" which is shady. Ok so on to the bio-lift - I loved it! I mean RELAXING as hell, my face felt so FRESH and toned after. Now its about a week later and I still feel like it looks fresh, not so sure about toned as much but I was not expecting a miracle after one facial. I do plan on getting another in 8 ish weeks. Again, not rich and yes there are spas doing similar in the area for less, there really are, but again I went with what I read on this place and decided on it by that. So, they will try to sell you their products. Lana was NOT pushy in the slightest. She simply told me what she would recommend for me and left it at that. When I heard the prices of some of their products, I must say I felt a bit faint lol. I booked a facial here in early November. The front desk and esthetician were friendly and professional. I was disappointed with my facial. I'm 35 and have had fairly regular facials for many years, both at higher end spas and random Groupon finds. I was in Philly for a weekend and was excited to try rescue spa based on the rave reviews. I had also purchased a trial size P50 from their online store and used it a few times over the summer prior to my skin becoming more dry due to the change of seasons. I told the esthetician that my skin had been very sensitive and reactive lately and that I was on Retin-A micro. As she did the facial I told her repeatedly that the products stung and burned, which I would expect from P50, but not the others. She wanted to use P50 with phenol on me but could not because I am nursing, so used the gentlest version, PIGM. I shudder to think how that would've turned out. After the facial my skin was tomato red. I expect some redness but this was beyond anything I ever experienced. Two days later, after the redness subsided I was left with what looked like hyper pigmentation all over my forehead. It was actually more noticeable than it appears in the pics. So, I emailed the spa to ask if this was normal and was terrified that the damage was permanent. I'd never seen anything like this from a facial. The people were nice enough, but didn't exactly apologize, and told me that the facial just brought out existing sun damage. They sent me some trial size L'Oréal pro shampoo and conditioner and samples of Valmont products for my troubles, and offered a mani/pedi (I love 2 hours away). I made an emergency appointment with my dermatologist who prescribed Bionect and told me that it was post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and that it would go away, which it did within a few days. I'm upset that I was not told what was happening to my skin so that I could make an informed decision to either discontinue or proceed with the facial. Afterwards, looked up the esthetician, she had only been there a few months, but I still think she should have been sufficiently trained on these products and skin reactions generally. I feel lucky that I did not have an event in the days following this facial. This was not a chemical peel or microdermabrasion; I feel like what happened to my skin was a very rookie mistake that should not have happened at a spa of this caliber (or any spa, really), snd has never happened to me before. I debated how many stars to give, but my skin did go back to normal, the people were nice, and I saw a few happy clients. Still, I'm left feeling like I paid to have someone mess up my skin which I then had to take time out of my schedule to go to my dermatologist and get a prescription to correct. --------- Edited to respond: First, I will trust my dermatologist's diagnosis that what was on my forehead was post inflammatory pigmentation. My doctor has a medical degree. My doctor also evaluated my skin, in person, when it was like this. You did not. Second, I know this was caused by my facial because I did not do anything else to my skin prior to seeing my doctor. The suggestion that my doctor is wrong on a medical diagnosis and/or that I simply did not notice that I had these marks on my face all along is just silly. Third, and as I stated in the review, the pigmentation was indeed temporary and my skin was back to normal within a few days. It is not "years of sun damage." There is a difference between pigmentation due to sun and pigmentation due to other types of inflammation (such as acne and over exfoliation, more commonly seen in olive or darker skin types such as myself). Lastly, and most importantly, I am concerned by the refusal to accept any responsibility or apologize for a bad experience. This concerns me because it tells me you'll just keep doing what you're doing to people whose skin reacts like mine to your products or the esthetician's technique, and that you don't think what happened to me is a problem. I ultimately decided to post a review due to this attitude. I wanted to share my experience with people, especially those with my skin tone and/or who have an upcoming event, bc I am not confident that you would take any steps to ensure this doesn't happen to someone else. As to your thoughts on my getting facials generally, I've had facials at least once or twice a year for 20 years, and sometimes more often. I generally enjoy them, and will continue to get them. Also, I will let my dermatologist decide whether the use of Retin-A on my skin is problematic. Like I said, I did see happy clients, a few with glowy skin even. The esthetician did remove a milia that had been bothering me and it has not returned. All good stuff. But in my mind, it doesn't excuse what happened or, more importantly, the lack of accountability. read more

My all time favorite spa in Philly. Super classy and luxurious from the moment you step into the spa. Prices are affordable and their Swedish Massage is to die for. Every masseuse I've had has been perfect, very accommodating to make sure that the pressure is just right. You end up falling asleep on the heated massage table as the massage continues. It is a pleasure to be in the hands of someone you trust. This is a big operation with many aestheticians. Usually places have only one person qualified to use advanced treatments such as lasers but here they have many. The prices inPhiladelphia are slightly cheaper than New York. But overall they are no more expensive than any other luxury spa. If you're a bit nervous about having someone touch your face with a laser (and you should be) then this is the place to be. She was blasting my face with light beams from some contraption so expertly. The results were fantastic! Zero down time. Money well spent. read more
