I was greeted by the best personality when I walked in and he helped me order the pork belly taco and the carne asada. I also ordered the elote and a hibiscus margarita. My margarita was amazing with hints of cinnamon. I didn't want it to end. The pork belly taco was okay. I think it needed something...just don't know what. Now the carne asada taco was the star of the show. Tender beef, melty cheese. I wish I would've ordered two. The elote unfortunately was underwhelming. Many visits over the years, prior 5 star review. Things have significantly changed in the quality and portion size. Came for a late 3:00PM lunch on Friday 5/1/26, ordered pork belly, cauliflower and short rib tacos with garlicky beans and a cup of water. Over $22, for 3 tacos, very small beans and water. Expensive lunch, which I don't mind paying except the (only) 2 small pieces of pork belly was so salty it was inedible and the short rib was too chewy. The caramelized cauliflower and very small portion of beans were good. But I was still hungry when I left. Had anyone asked how my meal was I would have told them not very good, obviously, because I only took one bite from 2 of the 3 tacos and left them on the table. Dining area was clean and trendy. Counter service was cold and indifferent. Unfortunately the lady taking my order was not pleasant. It's not hard to greet a guest, make eye contact and smile. Some training could be helpful. To be fair, this is a repeat of a bad experience a month ago. I wouldn't give a low star rating to a restaurant that historically was very good. I always give the benefit of an off day or recipe mistake by the kitchen. The saltiness of the pork belly twice let me know it wasn't a one off situation. Long time fan but I won't be returning. My favorite taco place! If you're looking for authentic street tacos, go somewhere else, but if you're looking for a special taco place, this is what you're going to get! The menu offers a variety of options that should be able to accommodate most people including vegetarian and pescatarian options. We tried to cauliflower, paneer, mushrooms, escargot, burnt ends, and scallops. You can place your order and then finding indoor or outdoor patio seating. Everything was fresh and made to order. Recently went to this location after wanting to try it for a long time. I went peak on a Friday which might have been a mistake. They got us through fairly for how long the line was. I love the area, very nice. Bar seating side seems really cool. As far as food goes it felt pretty subpar. People were saying this was one of the best in the city and I just can't agree. Elote was possibly the worst I've ever had. Seemed like a can of corn with a little cotija on top. Fried fish taco was solid. Short rib taco was probably the best. Pork belly burnt ends were decent. I tried Resident Taco for my first time last week after reading the chef's bio and seeing pictures of their duck confit taco. I was skeptical thinking the duck would taste just like a Chinese Pecking Duck Bao and that it wouldn't be anything new. Oh man, I was wrong. The homemade tortillas made for a scrumptious bite combined with the crispy skin and juicy meat, it was better than a Chinese Bao. The tortillas here are made to perfection; almost cooked al dente if that was even a thing. I have to knock a star off for the brisket and fish taco. They were decent but I wasn't impressed. However the house margaritas were on point and the mushroom fundido was the most fun quesadilla-like experience. First time I came here. Few wooden picnic tables were set outside just in front of the restaurant. Inside is fairly small, cozy, clean and well lit. Only 2 groups can come in to place an order at a time. You order, pay, get a number and find the seats. Service is great, very helpful, friendly and efficient. Foods are delicious and awesome. Everything cooked to perfection. It is very hard to have a vegetarian taco that taste delicious. Definitely will come back again for more. read more

We came here tonight after a few years away, and had a mixed experience: - When ordering, I asked the counter guy for a recommendation to go with my fried fish tacos. He enthusiastically recommended the fried okra taco, and I accepted. - The fish taco was delicious, plump and fresh and hot. The okra taco was comically undertsuffed, with less than one piece of okra total o it, a few microgreens, and some sauce. If I was here by myself, I would have taken it to the counter and asked the guy if this was really his recommendation. I was with my confrontation averse girlfriend, so I let it slide until this review. Either they ran out of okra and did not tell me, or some other horrible mistake was make to give me a near empty tortilla for $6. I am torn between 4 and 5 stars. I will say if price was no consideration they are 5 stars in my book. However it's definitely a few dollars more expensive per item than you would WANT to pay but gottta give them credit: delicious food - creatively made and served hot and fresh. Ingredients seem high quality. These are not authentic Mexican items: just high end creative selections. Place was packed on a Friday evening and we felt lucky to get a table out front. Only other thing: if you need to order more food you have to wait in a slow moving line which is a drag. I needed to eat about 5 or 6 tacos / tostadas to fill up, plus chips and guacamole but I'm a pretty big eater. Drinks were strong, tacos were good. I got the smoked pecan chicken which just tasted like nuts and the chicken didn't bring much flavor. The burnt end pork tacos were over salted and almost inedible. We had wa nted to try this place for what seems like years, so we finally made it on a Saturday afternoon. Sorry we waited so long. The restaurant is quite small but has outside seating which really helps. The quality of the tacos was outstanding. I had a fish taco and chicken taco. The fish taco was delicious and probably the best I have had outside of Hawaii. The fish was moist and the taco itself was not greasy. The sauce they put on it has a little kick and is delicious. I would get a fish taco every time. The guac was good but needed some salt. The elote was outstanding and the corn was still a bit crunchy. Service was friendly and helpful. Our food came quickly, and I noticed there were constantly people to clean up the tables to make room for customers. Resident Taqueria is the perfect mesh between down home Taqueria and upscale, eclectic taco bar! Upon enter of this Lake Highlands eatery, you are immediately met with a line out the door! (Not to worry, these guys are on it and the line moves lighting fast) Once inside, you are warmly greeted by the cashier/bartender and embraced by a buzz of activity from the staff and patrons. The menu board(just to your left) offers a barrage of Residents standard tacos, as well as a smattering of featured taco and drink specials. The Mr. ordered the Shrimp Tempura(battered shrimp w/cabbage, blistered tomatoes, fried leeks, and peppercorn aioli), Fish Taco(cabbage, fresh herbs, pickled onions, and mustard aioli) and a Pecan Smoked Chicken Taco(pickled sofrito, peanuts, cilantro, and salsa macha. The shrimp taco was well seasoned and all flavors worked well together, plus the shrimp was cooked PERFECTLY(None of that rubbery seafood here!). Except for the fact that the shrimp was unbattered? (Where is my Supa Suit!) However, it was made up for by the flavor bang that was the Fish Taco. (Come on now, how many times have you HONESTLY had a flavorful FISH TACO?) But, this was it! Well battered without being gummy, fresh kick from the herbs, and the mustard aioli put the smackdown boring Tartar Sauce! The Pecan Smoked Chicken was another winner, winner, CHICKEN DINNER! Super smoky pulled chicken(without being dry, mind you), peanuts, and pickled sofrito had a flavor pow wow in ours mouths! Ya'll know me, I'll try anything twice! I had the Lamb Barbacoa with onion, mint, tomato, and mojo picon(a spicy pepper sauce) was all I hoped it would be. Juicy, tender shredded lamb, that was spiced, without being spicy(we'll leave that to the mojo picon), was accented by the simplicity of fresh mint, onions, and tomatoes that really helped round out the flavors of this taco. I also had the Pork Burnt Ends, which was everything I love about bbq burnt ends and pork belly. A little char, a little sweet, and a whole lot of juicy flavor! Cabbage slaw, cucumbers, cilantro, and agave, made me think of Bahn Mi without the bread. Did I mention that the tortillas are made to order? We also shared some chips and queso, but this was not your average queso. The queso was thick and creamy with a flavor that made me think of Cheez Whiz(but not that greasy, chalk, can stuff). I'm talkin about the offspring of Cheez Whiz that grew up, had a baby, and that baby became a mega star! It was so good!!! But, you know what really put the whole experience over the top? The staff! Baby, when I tell you that them people was on it? They were ON IT! Friendly, efficient, and focused. It was a JOY to watch those guys have such a good time, cranking out orders. Stopped by Resident Taqueria on a Friday, and it was relatively busy with the line out the door. It only took about 10 minutes of waiting though until we were able to order. I opted for the smoked chicken and pork shoulder tacos along with a side of elote. The chicken taco was a bit on the dry side but had nice flavor otherwise, and the pork shoulder taco was super delicious. I absolutely loved the elote and practically inhaled it. I wouldn't say it's my favorite taco spot in all of DFW, but if I happen to be nearby I would stop by again. read more
