Carne Asada and Al Pastor Tacos
    Jaiden R.

Saw this place featured in a YouTube as being one of the best taco places in Dallas. The line was very long when i first arrived, so I was definitely expecting a long wait but it wasn't too bad (maybe 20min). After I ordered my tacos I got in line for the elotes and really enjoyed watching the man make each order fresh. The tacos and elotes were both good, but neither really blew my mind (7/10 for both). There isn't really a formal seating area but i saw lots of people either eating in line, in their cars, or in the field behind the restaurant. This place is cash only so make sure to stop at the bank/atm before going!

Humble exterior, great, bafflingly great tacos

This is a weird review to make. So it's a little sketch. Which usually doesn't bother me. But there was a couple of guys who were asking for money. I ended up giving them my Coke because this place only takes cash and I didn't have much cash. So that was the bad part. Little sketch. However, the tacos, I've been thinking about this, I think they were the best tacos I've ever had. Maybe not. But I think they were. AI recommended me to try certain tacos. It was mostly wrong. Both my wife and I agreed that surprisingly their best tacos were the chicken tacos. Insanely flavorful. How can you make chicken taste that good? Bistec were great. Lengua was delish. Chorizo was better than chorizo. When you're talking about the best tacos you've ever had possibly, it comes down to execution and details. The ratio of onions and cilantro was spot on. The flavor was out of this world. The corn tortillas soaked up all the flavor grease in a good way. It doesn't make sense that tacos this good come from this place. But then again great things come in small packages

Still my favorite street taco spot in Dallas! Depending on the time you arrive it might be a line but definitely worth the wait.

This place has been running for 30 years and I can see why. I went there during my short trip to Dallas while strolling in the area. First was at night and again in the morning. No matter the time of the day there is always a line and everything made fresh to the order. There is a little bit of wait time but tacos came out piping hot. I had chicken tacos and they were bomb. The only thing missing is a hint of lime but it tasted amazing for such a small price of just $2.75 per taco. At night I had Mexican street corn. A huge cup of steaming corn with cheese, red sauce, sour screen and butter was just $5. If you are going during the day, just wait in the car bcos there is hardly any shade and in Dallas heat, you become a taco yourself. There is nothing to write about the ambiance. It's just street food but it's a few streets away from the main vibrant bishop art district so it's much quieter but still safe.

El Si Hay has the best tacos in Dallas--hands down. I've been a regular for years, and their food is consistently simple, delicious, and spot-on. My go-to is the Al Pastor, but honestly, everything on the menu is great. They offer both green and red sauces--get both. The green has a nice kick with tons of flavor, while the red is bold, smoky, and seriously spicy. You can choose your toppings and opt for either corn or flour tortillas, depending on your preference. Every so often, there's a vendor outside serving fresh, made-to-order elotes. Don't skip that--it's an incredible bonus. A few tips: They're cash only, there's no seating, and there's always a line. But trust me--this local gem is absolutely worth it.

Legit tacos and elote that are worth the wait. Cash only at this spot. Elote is cut off the cob as you wait and it is masterful. If you get with the spicy stuff it is pretty darn spicy. Green salsa also pretty spicy but not so noticeable when on your tacos. Tacos served with lime wedges and onions on the side. Basic, authentic and delicious. Every time you drive by you will see a line. Do yourself a favor and stop.

This little taco spot has quickly become my favorite in the area. It's just a small stand that looks about 100 sq ft., but they are pumping out good food. Limited menu of tacos (Al pastor, barbacoa, lengue, etc) and drinks (agua Frescas and Jarritos). Topping choices are onion, cilantro and a salsa. Cash only, and they don't have an ATM, so come prepared! You're outside to wait for your food and there's no seating so park close by so you can wait in your car for your order. I ordered a sampling of different tacos with the green salsa. Everything was fire, meat very flavorful. The barbacoa and al pastor were my favorite bites and the salsa made it even better.

Finally got the chance to visit Taqueria El Si Hay and all I can say is YES YES YES! Not only were my expectations high but they were exceeded! The size of the tacos were very large, way larger than I expected for a typical street taco. The establishment is small and walk up style. We also got our food very quickly. We got to try the bistec, chorizo, and barbacoa and they were amazing! The perfect lunch! We will definitely be back!

Finally got to try this famous taco spot that everyone has been raving about and it did not disappoint! The line was pretty long but it was so worth the wait. We tried almost all the flavors and bistek and chorizo really stood out. The meat was seasoned so well and juicy. The tacos are pretty small so definitely order multiples. There's no seating as it's a takeout spot. We were so hungry so we just tailgated by the car. This is a must try taco spot in Dallas!

First off this place accepts cash only! The tacos are delicious. I tried the chicken, carne asada and fajita. My favorite two were the carne asada and fajita.

Excellent!!!! From the tacos to the horchata. 10/10! It is cash only! ATM inside gas station in the same lot. Super nice ladies! Got our food super quick.

I've had a ton of different food items the years, but their fajitas are their signature dish for a reason! It comes out sizzling, fresh, and delicious. Do not pass up on the bone marrow sauce, it transforms the dish to beyond a 10/10! The salsas are always good and then tortilla chips salty and fresh. I start with a skinny margarita w a salt rim, which was good. Our waiter, Abraham, was great! He was very attentive and was very knowledgeable about the menu. We also order the ceviche to start, which was yummy! The crackers were a bit of an odd pairing for me and I stuck with tortilla chips, but overall delicious!! My friend ordered the steak quesadilla and thought it was tasty too.

Here in Texas, chips and salsa are such a commonplace experience it's off-putting to pay for them. We ordered the guacamole and the chips and salsa come with it, so that was, I guess, better...but the guacamole was $16, so there's that. The salsa was tasty as was the guacamole, but again, for the portion it's really not worth it. We had the queso flameado, which was yummy and the flour tortillas are good! We split the sirloin and were underwhelmed. For a grilled meats place the steak was very under seasoned and wasn't giving us fresh hot grilled vibes. Meh at best, as were the rice and beans. We ordered elote as a side and it was really the best thing we ate. Service was friendly and efficient! Cocktails average $16ish. Again, for the prices we expected better.

Chris our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took his time walking us through the menu and explaining what made El Carlos Elegante so special. The drinks were perfect. My wife loved her Desert Flor while I thoroughly enjoyed my Modelo Micheleda. Her Surf and Turf one hitter was exceptional. I have to say my Crab Cake was just ok. It tasted a little pasty and very heavy on the bread. The Pulpo was absolutely amazing. Perfect texture and the sauce it was served almost had me licking the plate. The El Machete was incredible from its presentation, to the freshness of the corn tortilla, to the quality of the meat inside. Definitely recommend this. We really liked our Okra + Shishito course, we just wished it had more okra in it. The two things I loved about the Al Pastor was of course the sauce it was served on but the fact that I got to enjoy it like a steak. It was served sliced on a bias like flank steak. Typically Al Pastor is finely chopped and served in tacos and burritos, so this was a different eating experience for me. And of course it was delicious as well. We cannot wait to come back and try more of the menu.

That visit checked every box -- the food, service, ambiance, and overall hospitality were all exceptional. What really stood out to me then was the attention to detail. I had casually mentioned that one of my cocktails wasn't quite my taste, and Harry personally reached out afterward to say they'd gladly adjust it next time. That kind of thoughtful follow-up leaves a lasting impression and is exactly the sort of hospitality that elevates a restaurant experience. Unfortunately, this recent visit felt like a completely different restaurant. We decided to do a combination of à la carte dishes along with the Experience menu after being told this version would feature entirely off-menu items, which genuinely intrigued us since Ihad also done the Experience previously. At the start of dinner, we were asked about allergies and dietary restrictions. I clearly explained that I have a mango allergy and do not eat beef. Our server then asked whether I ate other meats, and I clarified yes -- and even specifically mentioned that if the machete dish was beef, please still include it because my friend could enjoy it and I really wanted her to try it. He confirmed it would be the sirloin version, so we happily agreed not to modify that course. So imagine our surprise when one of the first dishes arrived dressed with a mango vinaigrette. Thankfully, we barely caught him quietly mentioning "mango" as he set it down. We immediately looked at each other thinking, "Didn't we just discuss the allergy?" It was disappointing, but unfortunately also representative of the overall service throughout the evening. Our server seemed disengaged, inattentive, and often not fully listening. Empty glasses sat untouched, opportunities to order additional items were missed, and at one point we were simply handed the check without even being asked if we wanted anything else. We also ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and ended up pouring it ourselves for most of the evening because our glasses were rarely refilled. I completely understand not leaving the bottle tableside if walkway space is limited, but repeatedly needing to get up ourselves to retrieve it felt out of sync with the level of service one expects from a Michelin-recommended restaurant -- especially at this price point. Then came the machete dish. Instead of the sirloin version we specifically discussed, we received the vegetarian potato version. When the server asked how it looked, I politely explained that we were disappointed because he had specifically told us it would be the sirloin preparation. At minimum, I would have expected another protein substitution given the earlier conversation about what I could eat. I'm also still unclear whether the Experience menu was truly "off-menu" as described, since several dishes -- including the halibut -- appeared familiar. Had that been communicated differently, we likely would have skipped the Experience altogether and simply curated our own meal. At the end of the night, spending over $500 while pouring our own wine, nearly being served an allergen we explicitly disclosed, and receiving dishes different from what was promised made for a deeply disappointing experience -- especially after such a phenomenal first visit. It honestly felt sad more than anything because I know how wonderful this restaurant can be. I'm not sure what changed in the last five months, but the difference was significant.
